Woman with 7 DUI arrests self-surrenders after apparently commenting on Facebook about her own case

A woman who was arrested seven times for DUI self-surrendered after responding to a news story on Facebook about police requesting help in locating her, KLAS reported Friday.

Marion Reyes, 36, surrendered herself to the Las Vegas Metro police at the Clark County Detention Center Friday afternoon, according to a source cited by KLAS.

A Facebook account bearing Reyes's name and image responded to the outlet's news story about police searching for her. The story was titled "Las Vegas police ask for help finding woman with 7 DUIs who cut off GPS bracelet."

"I never cut it off!!! An officer cut it off when I turned myself in. They continued to release me," the post claimed.

Responses to the curious post ranged from chiding to chuckles.

A separate post in the same thread attempted to go into more detail. The rambling post, however, was difficult to decipher, which Facebook users were quick to point out.

"I tried reading this 6 times and still can't make out your gibberish. Get em' LVMPD Traffic!" said one user.

LVMPD responded with a helpful suggestion.

"Then why not turn yourself in now? Let's get this sorted out tonight."

A judge issued a bench warrant for Reyes's arrest after she failed to show for a hearing as part of a felony DUI treatment program, KLAS also reported. She had previously been ordered to self-surrender for other violations of her treatment program. When she did so, she served two days in jail.

Reyes was reportedly arrested on DUI charges at least seven times since 2007.

Thursday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Traffic Bureau posted on social media, asking for help locating Reyes. They said she had cut off her location monitor, and asked the public to send any information they had on her whereabouts.

KLAS reported on the story the same day and shared the story to their Facebook page. Reyes is marked as a "top fan" of KLAS on Facebook.

LVMPD thanked the public for their assistance, saying in a social media post Friday that Reyes had turned herself in that afternoon after speaking with an intervention officer Thursday night.

Maniac allegedly went on Las Vegas stabbing rampage after getting turned down for photo with showgirls

Two people were killed and six others injured in a stabbing rampage that took place on the Las Vegas Strip around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday. The suspect arrested in connection with the stabbings is 32-year-old Yoni Barrios. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

“#BREAKING: The suspect in today's stabbings on Las Vegas Boulevard has been identified as 32-year-old Yoni Barrios. He has been booked into CCDC on two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.”

Brandishing a large kitchen knife, the suspect began his brutal attack outside the Wynn Casino in the 3100 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. The attacks were unprovoked.

Although Barrios first allegedly began stabbing on the sidewalk, he proceeded south down the street and stabbed several more victims. Ultimately, he fled as concerned citizens began to chase him down.

Within minutes of the stabbings, the LVMPD apprehended the suspect with the help of Sands security guards. According to KTNV, police arrested him in front of the Venetian and observed that his sleeves were covered in blood.

Th suspect stabbed eight people, two of whom died. One was pronounced dead on the scene and the other perished later at University Medical Center.

The deceased victims have been identified: 47-year-old Brent Allan Hallett and 30-year-old Maris Mareen DiGiovanni. DiGiovanni, who leaves behind a husband, worked as a teacher at 9th Bridge School in Las Vegas.

Three of the other stabbing victims are reportedly in critical condition.

LVMPD Deputy Chief James LaRochelle stated that this "was an isolated incident. ... All evidence indicates Barrios acted alone and there are no outstanding suspects at this time."

The Review-Journal noted that Barrios is not a Las Vegas resident.

One witness told KTNV that the suspect had approached a number of Las Vegas showgirls holding a large knife, which he allegedly explained away, claiming himself to be a chef. He then reportedly asked the women to pose for a photo with him. The witnessed indicated that when the victims refused, the suspect began stabbing them.

The LVMPD indicated on Thursday that the suspect's motive is unknown.

Another witness, Pierre Fandrich of Montreal, Canada, reported seeing "a lot of blood" and that he initially mistook the terrified shrieks and cries of the victims for laughter.

Fandrich said that one woman, who appeared to have been stabbed in the back, helped another victim who was on the ground. Another bystander reportedly aided in efforts to resuscitate the woman until first responders arrived.

One tourist from London told KVVU that one victim took off his shirt and tried using it to staunch his bleeding before collapsing at the base of an escalator.

Police hunting down prison escapee, an illegal alien behind two Las Vegas bombings

A manhunt is underway to apprehend 42-year-old Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, an illegal alien from Nicaragua who murdered a man outside a Las Vegas Strip casino with a pipe bomb in 2007. Herrera, sentenced to life without parole, was reported missing on Tuesday when he didn't turn up during a 7 a.m. headcount at Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs, 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

The escape

Although reported absent from the medium-security prison on Tuesday, Democrat Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak — who stands for reelection on November 8 — indicated that a Nevada Department of Corrections investigation found that Herrera had been missing since early this past weekend.

The NDOC released an update Tuesday evening suggesting Herrera has in fact been unaccounted for since Friday evening.

KLAS reported that Herrera may have created a dummy, potentially out of cardboard, to fool guards into thinking he was still in his prison cell.

He allegedly used battery acid to weaken his cell window frame, through which he climbed out.

— Cristen Drummond (@Cristen Drummond) 1664390196

KSNV's Cristen Drummond reported that Herrera subsequently bypassed a fence nearby a guard tower that has not been staffed since 2020, despite it having been a "legislatively approved post budgeted by the legislature."

Days after Herrera's escape, the Southern Desert Correctional Center was placed on full lockdown, with "escape procedures" put into effect around 8 a.m.

Sisloak stated, "this is unacceptable ... This kind of security lapse cannot be permitted and those responsible will be held accountable."

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department has teamed up with the U.S. Marshals to locate Herrera. In a September 28 social media post, the LVMPD warned the public that if seen, this convicted murderer should not be approached, and to call 911 immediately.

“We are actively assisting the U.S. Marshals in locating Nevada Department of Corrections escapee Porfirio Duarte-Herrera. He is a convicted murderer and should not be approached. If you see him, please dial 911 immediately.
#PorfirioDuarteHerrera”
— LVMPD (@LVMPD) 1664380180

Herrera is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs approximately 135 pounds.

The crimes

Herrera was convicted in 2010 of killing a 24-year-old hot dog stand vendor with a motion-activated bomb at the Luxor hotel-casino on May 7, 2007.

In hopes of killing his co-conspirator's ex-girlfriend along with her then-boyfriend in a revenge plot, Herrera placed a pipe bomb with a magnetic switch inside a coffee cup and placed the improvised explosive device on the victim's car. Since traffic had been halted at a distance behind the victim at a red light, shrapnel resultant of the blast did not injure anybody else. The bomb did, however, blow off the victim's fingers, shred his arm, and launch a piece of metal into his head.

Prosecutor Dave Stanton stated, "It was like shooting into a crowd and missing everyone ... It was incredibly lucky no one was injured or killed."

The victim, Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio, had been dating the ex-girlfriend of Herrera's co-conspirator, Omar Rueda-Denvers, also an illegal alien. Although Herrera and Denvers sought for both Antonio and Guatemalan illegal Caren Chali to be consumed by the blast, though nearby, Chali was not injured.

Denvers is also serving a life sentence for first degree murder, attempted murder, the possession and manufacture of explosives, and other charges. He reportedly remains in custody at High Desert State Prison.

Herrera's brother was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder, particularly after authorities found potential bomb-making materials in his trailer, but he returned to Nicaragua.

Prior to the Luxor bombing, Herrera previously crafted and set off a bomb in 2006, destroying a parked pickup truck outside a Home Depot store east of downtown Las Vegas.

For the October 31, 2006, bombing, a Clark County District Court jury found Herrera guilty of attempted murder, bomb making, bomb possession and destruction of property.

Dramatic bodycam video shows Las Vegas cop chase down suspect, gets shot and falls to the ground but she still manages to take out gunman

Intense bodycam video shows the moment a Las Vegas police officer was shot during the pursuit of a suspect, but she managed to neutralize the gunman from the ground.

Around 1:13 a.m. on Sept. 10, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer Tierney Tomburo, 24, pulled over a Buick for a traffic infraction on University Center Drive. Tomburo asked the three people in the car to exit the vehicle and walk to the front of the police patrol SUV.

One of the men – later identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Charles – disregarded the officer's orders and fled the traffic stop. Tomburo gave chase to the sprinting man.

Bodycam video revealed that Charles turned while he was running to shoot Tomburo. She fell to the ground in agony, but still managed to fire off four gunshots as seen in police bodycam footage. Charles was struck in the torso.

Another police officer rushed to assist Tomburo – who was shot in the pelvis. While the officer applied a tourniquet, Tomburo called the dispatch to request immediate medical assistance.

Charles was taken into custody and taken to the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center – where he was pronounced dead.

Tomburo was rushed to the UMC Trauma Center.

Two days after the shooting, Tomburo was released from the hospital in a wheelchair and received a standing ovation from her fellow law enforcement officers.

Tomburo – who has been employed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 2020 – was placed on administrative leave as the District Attorney’s Office and department investigate the police shooting.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Sheriff John McGrath said of Tomburo, "She is at home, but in a lot of pain. But we have every hope that she’ll be back to work as soon as possible."

Had Charles survived, the LVMPD said he would have been charged with attempted murder, battery, resisting a public officer, and a prohibited person with a firearm.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested for suspicion of DUI. The third man was not charged.

KLAS-TV reported, "This was the eighth officer-involved shooting of 2022, McGrath said. At this time last year, there were five officer-involved shootings."

Reporter tries to blame Trump for Las Vegas Democrat allegedly stabbing journalist to death

A reporter tried to compel a Las Vegas sheriff to condemn former President Donald Trump after police arrested a local Democrat politician for the murder of an investigative journalist.

On Thursday, the sheriff of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Joe Lombardo, took to the podium to address questions from the media regarding a recent high-profile arrest. The day before, Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles was arrested for the gruesome murder of Jeff German, a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a story that had naturally drawn the attention of media throughout the country.

But one reporter, whose name has not been given, instead queried Lombardo about Trump, likely attempting to reorient the conversation from a discussion about the violent actions of one person into a larger statement about the former president.

"Now is probably not the appropriate time to talk politics," the unnamed reporter began. To which Lombardo replied, "So why are we talking politics then?"

The reporter disregarded Lombardo's question and proceeded to make the case political, asking, "Do you condemn former President Trump’s normalization of violence against journalists?"

“Democrat elected official: Allegedly stabs journalist to death

Media to Sheriff: So are you going to condemn Trump?

🤡🌎”
— Jason Howerton (@Jason Howerton) 1662734735

"No, I think this [is] probably inappropriate to speculate on that or opine on that," Lombardo responded.

He also added that the crime "is troublesome because it is a journalist. When people take it upon themselves to create harm associated with that profession, I think it’s very important that we put all eyes on and address the case appropriately."

It is unclear why the reporter believed that a Democratic politician would exact violence against a reporter because of comments Trump made about the media while in office. It is also unclear in what way the former president normalized "violence against journalists."

German had recently published an exposé about Telles, alleging that Telles created a hostile work environment and had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with one staffer. Over the summer, Telles lost a bid for reelection to fellow Democrat Rita Reid, and many have suspected that German's recent articles helped sink Telles' campaign.

"The published articles regarding a public figure, the public administrator’s office, ruined his political career, likely his marriage, and this was him lashing out at the cause," said Clark County chief deputy DA Richard Scow.

German was viciously stabbed seven times, according to Scow.

According to police, the evidence against Telles, an ardent gun control advocate, is damning. Police say that they have tied the straw hat and shoes seen in surveillance footage to Telles and have found Telles' DNA underneath German's fingernails. Police say they also have other DNA evidence linking Telles to the murder, though they have not publicly discussed the details of that DNA evidence.

German began working for the Review-Journal in 2010. Prior to that, he spent 20 years working for the Las Vegas Sun.

Democrat county politician arrested in connection with brutal murder of journalist in Vegas

A Democrat county official in Nevada, Rob Telles, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday in the grisly Friday slaying of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German. Telles had once written to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) "There are folks on the other side that really want us at each other's throats."

After police searched his house and seized his vehicles (one resembling that driven by the suspected killer), Telles reportedly went into his garage dressed in what appeared to be a white hazmat suit and shut the door. When he refused to answer to police, a Las Vegas Police Department SWAT team was dispatched, which then made the arrest. Telles was taken out of his house on a stretcher.

Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, an advocate for gun control and an avid Warren supporter, is said to have lost his primary election in June to fellow Democrat Rita Reid, partly as a result of the victim's investigative reporting.

Reid told the Daily Beast that German "was willing to speak truth to power and it cost him his life."

In a series of articles investigating allegations of misconduct and unethical behavior, German had detailed hostilities, inappropriate relations, and "turmoil" inside Telles' county office, citing "allegations of emotional stress, bullying and favoritism leading to secret videotaping of the boss and a co-worker outside the office."

Telles had repeatedly denied the allegations and took to Twitter to repudiate German.

“Typical bully. Can't take a pound of critism after slinging 100 pounds of BS. Up to article #4 now. You'd think he'd have better things to do. 😜”
— Rob Telles (@Rob Telles) 1655564292

German's body was found outside his home on Saturday, six miles away from Telles' house. The Clark County coroner ruled German's death a homicide resulting from "multiple sharp force injuries."

On September 5, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department released images of the suspect and his vehicle, noting they had "been working non-stop to identify and apprehend" the person responsible for German's killing. The images showed an individual in a reflective orange shirt and a broad-brimmed straw hat carrying a bag. The vehicle depicted was a maroon GMC Yukon Denali.

An investigation into German's murder prompted Las Vegas police to execute a search warrant at the home of Telles Wednesday morning. When conducting their search, police also shut down nearby roads.

At the Telles residence, police found and towed two vehicles, one of which was similar to the murder suspect's GMC. During their search, police also determined German's killing might have been related to the journalist's work exposing "public wrongdoing." German was reportedly planning a post-election follow-up story about Telles before he was cut down.

Telles arrived home at 2:20 p.m., hours after police had searched his house and towed his vehicle. Ignoring reporters' questions, he shut himself inside his garage wearing "a white hazmat suit." When an LVMPD police officer knocked on the front door, Telles refused to answer.

Las Vegas SWAT police soon arrived on the scene in armored vehicles. Footage of Telles being carried out of his house and into an ambulance circulated ahead of Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo's announcement d 6:30 p.m. that Telles had been arrested.

The LVMPD tweeted at 9:45 p.m. that the "suspect in the homicide that occurred on September 2, 2022, has been taken into custody."

The executive editor of German's paper, Glenn Cook, said, "The arrest of Robert Telles is at once an enormous relief and an outrage. ... We are relieved Telles is in custody and outraged that a colleague appears to have been killed for reporting on an elected official."

Cook noted further, "Journalists can't do the important work our communities require if they are afraid a presentation of facts could lead to violent retribution." After thanking Las Vegas police for taking swift action, Cook indicated "the German family and Jeff's many friends can begin the process of mourning and honoring a great man and a brave reporter."

German reported on courts, politics, government, and organized crime at the Review-Journal since 2010. He had previously worked for over twenty years at the Las Vegas Sun.

Video: Las Vegas homeowner narrowly escapes death when suspect's firearm jams during attempted robbery

A Las Vegas homeowner narrowly escaped with his life after an attempted murder suspect tried to shoot him in what police are calling a botched robbery.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is requesting help to identify a black male suspect who was recorded on a home security camera pulling a gun on a homeowner and demanding property from the man on Sunday.

Police said that on the afternoon of July 24, the victim was returning home and parked his vehicle in his garage when he was approached by the unidentified suspect, who was armed.

The armed suspect attempted to rob the man, who fled. As the victim ran away, the suspect pursued him and attempted to shoot the man, but the weapon jammed. The suspect then ran to a nearby parked vehicle and fled the scene, police said.

The police department released video of the incident that was taken by a Ring security camera that appears to belong to one of the victim's neighbors.

In the video, two men are seen running across a street. The first is an unarmed white male wearing a pink shirt and white pants. An armed black man wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants, and white athletic shoes pursues him.

The suspect is shown attempting to fire his weapon at the victim multiple times, but the victim is able to run away unharmed. The suspect then flees after his weapon appears to jam.

Video captured from another security camera appears to show the suspect fleeing in a black sedan with tinted windows, police said.

Residents of the neighborhood where the crime took place were reportedly "shocked" by the incident, according to KVVU-TV.

Local news reporter Joe Vigil spoke to the 80-year-old victim, who said that the gun wielded by the suspect belonged to him. It is unclear how the suspect obtained the victim's firearm.

"Anyone who recognizes this suspect or has any information about this incident is urged to contact LVMPD Summerlin Area Command Investigations at 702-828-9455," police said.

Police encouraged anyone who may wish to provide an anonymous tip to contact Crime Stoppers by telephone at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
