See it: CDC director Mandy Cohen wears mask in photos with Democratic senators, but not in photo with Republican Sen. Mitt Romney

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Mandy Cohen recently shared an eyebrow-raising post that included four photos of her with U.S. senators. While she was wearing a mask in photos with Democratic Sens. Tim Kaine of Virginia, Jon Ossoff of Georgia, and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Cohen was maskless in a photo with Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah.

"Busy day meeting with Senators - appreciate the support and partnership!" Cohen's post read, seemingly indicating that all of the photos had been taken on the same day.

People on social media took notice of Cohen's inconsistent masking.

"Why the mask, but then also why no mask with Romney?" Chuck Ross of the Washington Free Beacon tweeted.

"Mandy Cohen wears masks when meeting with Democrats but not @SenatorRomney," Matthew Foldi of The Specator World wrote. "Why?"

"Masked meeting the Dems // unmasked meeting Romney," Josh Kraushaar of Jewish Insider noted.

"What happened to your useless mask in the first photo dear?" someone else tweeted.

Cohen began serving as CDC director earlier this year.

Back in 2020, she shared a photo of herself sporting a face mask emblazoned with a photo of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

"Did you know it’s #WorldMaskWeek?" Cohen wrote on that August 2020 post. "Face coverings are one of our strongest tools to slow the spread of #COVID19 in our communities... and like my Dr. Fauci mask, they can be fun too! Join me in masking up this week & beyond – every time you leave the house."

New CDC director Mandy Cohen wants the agency to build trust with Americans

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Mandy Cohen, who recently stepped into the role, has acknowledged that the agency lost some of the public's trust in the past few years. But she has indicated that she intends to "refocus" the agency "on building that trust."

In an interview with NBC News' Erika Edwards, Cohen said that during her first all-hands meeting with the agency, "the first thing we talked about was trust."

"For us to be strong as a nation we need to make sure that we trust each other," she said, adding that the issue concerns "public health, but it's about so much more than that." She said that life expectancy in the country is decreasing.

Back in 2020, Cohen posted a photo of herself wearing a face mask plastered with a photo of Dr. Anthony Fauci's face.

"Did you know it’s #WorldMaskWeek? Face coverings are one of our strongest tools to slow the spread of #COVID19 in our communities... and like my Dr. Fauci mask, they can be fun too! Join me in masking up this week & beyond – every time you leave the house," Cohen wrote when sharing the photo.

President Joe Biden tapped Cohen to serve in the CDC director role that had previously been filled by Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

"Dr. Cohen is one of the nation’s top physicians and health leaders with experience leading large and complex organizations, and a proven track-record protecting Americans’ health and safety," the president said in a statement.

Biden's reported CDC director pick previously posted a photo of herself wearing a mask with Fauci's face on it

President Joe Biden is reportedly planning to tap Mandy Cohen, a former North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, to serve as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In August 2020, Cohen shared a photo in which she can be seen sporting a face mask that features the image of then-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci. In the tweet, Cohen urged people to wear masks whenever they left home.

"Did you know it’s #WorldMaskWeek? Face coverings are one of our strongest tools to slow the spread of #COVID19 in our communities... and like my Dr. Fauci mask, they can be fun too! Join me in masking up this week & beyond – every time you leave the house," Cohen tweeted.

Cohen has previously served in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services under the Obama administration.

CDC director Rochelle Walensky plans to step down at the end of June.

Walensky, a COVID-19 vaccine-promoter, tested positive last year, then proceeded to take a course of Paxlovid, test negative, and then test positive again.

"CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky experienced mild symptoms from her recent COVID-19 infection, completed a course of Paxlovid, and, after a period of isolation, tested negative for the virus. On Sunday, Dr. Walensky began to develop mild symptoms and has again tested positive," the CDC noted in a press release last year.

Biden claimed in a statement last month that "Walensky leaves CDC a stronger institution, better positioned to confront health threats and protect Americans" and that she "saved lives with her steadfast and unwavering focus on the health of every American."
