Fox Corporation warns Media Matters against sharing leaked Tucker Carlson footage

A cease-and-desist-letter dispatched on behalf of Fox Corporation pressed Media Matters to stop sharing leaked footage of Tucker Carlson.

"We write on behalf of FOX Corporation to clarify any misunderstandings Media Matters may have had regarding previously unaired footage that Media Matters has published in a series of articles headlined 'FOXLEAKS.' That unaired footage is FOX’s confidential intellectual property; FOX did not consent to its distribution or publication; and FOX does not consent to its further distribution or publication," the letter declared.

"This proprietary material was given to you without FOX’s authorization. FOX demands that Media Matters cease and desist from distribution, publication, and misuse of Fox’s misappropriated proprietary footage, which you are now on notice was unlawfully obtained. We reserve all rights and remedies," the message concluded.

Media Matters, a leftist organization, has been releasing leaked video footage of Carlson.

Media Matters president and CEO Angelo Carusone issued a statement in response to the letter.

"Reporting on newsworthy leaked material is a cornerstone of journalism. For Fox to argue otherwise is absurd and further dispels any pretense that they're a news operation. Perhaps if I tell them that the footage came from a combination of Wikileaks and Hunter Biden's laptop, it will alleviate their concerns," Carusone said.

Fox News Media announced on April 24 that Carlson's program would not be returning to the air, and that April 21 had been the final episode. The news irked many viewers, and the channel's ratings have suffered without Carlson helming the 8 p.m. slot during the last two weeks. Carlson had apparently expected to return to the air because he said, "We'll be back on Monday," when closing out that April 21 episode.

Carlson posted a video on Twitter last week that has amassed nearly 24 million views so far.

Ex-Media Matters employee alleges colleagues covered up sexual misconduct, refuses to retract claims after lawsuit threat

A former employee of the left-wing watchdog group Media Matters for America accused his ex-colleagues of covering up a sexual misconduct incident in social media posts Monday.

Timothy Johnson, formerly a senior writer at Media Matters, was threatened with a lawsuit from his former employer over a Twitter thread in which Johnson said that an editorial director at the group "covered up for a man who preyed on our colleagues."

The thread began with Johnson announcing, "After about 10 years, I no longer work at Media Matters."

In a lengthy and at times vague series of tweets, Johnson alleged that Media Matters editorial director Ben Dimiero covered up sexual misconduct by another unnamed employee who is no longer working for the group.

"I am very very fortunate in my circumstances that I did not end up on the street the next day as a consequence of what my former boss @bendimiero did. I bet a lot of people would have," Johnson wrote.

"My experience has been that the vast, vast majority of past colleagues at the @mmfa, even including most executives and managers, were wonderful, kind people to work with.

"But you two clowns? I don’t think so. Do either of you want to talk about April 4? I doubt it," he continued, referencing an unknown incident.

"Ben: Do you want to talk about how you covered up for a man who preyed on our colleagues?" Johnson wrote, addressing Dimiero.

“This man suddenly resigned. And to my shame, I went out with him after work that day and we all got really drunk. He told me a sob story, I bought it, and the night ended with him being carried up to his apartment.”
— Tim Johnson (@Tim Johnson) 1654518577

He continued:

This man suddenly resigned. And to my shame, I went out with him after work that day and we all got really drunk. He told me a sob story, I bought it, and the night ended with him being carried up to his apartment.

Not too long later, I learned the truth of why he 'resigned.' He was dismissed because of his sexual misconduct. But only after years of people in authority positions knowing about what he was doing.

He apparently was still allowed to come into the office (to participate in a poker game). I ran into him on the street, just outside the office, a month or two later after I learned this. He gave me a friendly hello.

I didn’t reciprocate. I hope (I am no stranger to beating the fuck out of a predator) that I put the fear of god into him. The smirk on his face didn’t last long. I heard he didn’t come back to the office after that. I never saw him again, I hope he never did come by again.

I am ashamed that I did not share this publicly until now. It most likely makes me a clown myself. But brass tacks, I didn’t, and I’m sorry.

Later on Monday morning, Johnson posted screenshots of a letter he received from Media Matters attorney Ben Stafford informing him that he had breached a contract negotiating the end of his employment. The letter stated that Johnson was fired for cause. Media Matters demanded that he "immediately remove the Twitter thread you posted this morning about MMFA and your former manager."

“Update: Media Matters (@mmfa) is threatening to sue me for doing this thread. Every statement within the thread is true. https://t.co/pOHdN9lcUa”
— Tim Johnson (@Tim Johnson) 1654566314

Stafford wrote that Johnson had been fired for "abandoning work shifts" without proper notice and "insubordinate and bullying communications" sent to his coworkers. As part of the agreement ending Johnson's employment, he was not to "directly or indirectly, disparage MMFA, its officers, directors, or employees, or MMFA's business, and will not encourage any third parties to do so."

"You have unquestionably violated this obligation," the letter states. It called the accusation against Dimiero "false and defamatory" and said Johnson's tweets "indisputably disparage both MMFA and a current MMFA employee in clear breach of the Agreement."

The letter states that Media Matters reserves the right to sue Johnson for monetary damages if he did not delete his tweets by close of business Monday.

Johnson's thread is still on Twitter as of Tuesday. He maintains "every statement within the thread is true."

Media Matters did not respond to a request for comment.

Matt Walsh says his best-selling 'Johnny the Walrus' book was removed from Amazon's LGBTQ section as well as Target's website: 'The canceling begins'

As of Thursday, conservative commentator Matt Walsh's "Johnny the Walrus" — a children's book that skewers leftist gender ideology by way of a story about a boy who pretends to be a walrus — was ranked number 1 on Amazon's list of "Best Sellers in LGBTQ+ Books."

But not any more.

No, his book didn't slip in the rankings. Instead, Walsh pointed out Friday that Amazon removed "Johnny the Walrus" from the LGBTQ+ section entirely.

Amazon has removed my bestselling LGBT children’s book from their LGBT book list. This is an unconscionable attack on gay rights and a horrific example of homophobia and gay erasure.pic.twitter.com/AZeyqp66Ps
— Matt Walsh (@Matt Walsh) 1639140281

"This is an unconscionable attack on gay rights and a horrific example of homophobia and gay erasure," Walsh quipped in his tweet about the issue.

Sure enough, a cursory glance Friday afternoon at Amazon's top 100 LGBTQ+ books section showed no signs of "Johnny the Walrus" among the offerings. (Although glaringly it's still ranked number 3 on the "most wished for in LGBTQ+ books" — which tells you either Amazon needs a new delete button or that shoppers are on a different wavelength.)

Et tu, Target?

What's more, Walsh pointed out Friday that "Johnny the Walrus" was removed from Target's website.

The canceling begins. Target has removed Johnny the Walrus from their website. No explanation has been given.pic.twitter.com/ZnI0s62e9n
— Matt Walsh (@Matt Walsh) 1639145105

Walsh added that "no explanation has been given" for the book getting wiped from Target.com. "The canceling begins," he added in his tweet.

Indeed, a search Friday afternoon for "Johnny the Walrus" on Target's site showed a whopping 320 items — some were books about "Johnny" (including a bunch about Johnny Cash), and there were some books about walruses. But Walsh's book was not listed in the results.

What's the background?

Prior to "Johnny the Walrus" getting harpooned, GLAAD and Media Matters for America were were hoppin' mad.

Brennan Suen of Media Matters tweeted that it's "totally unacceptable that @amazon is listing Matt Walsh's anti-trans children's book as an 'LGBTQ+ Book' -- also goes to show how easy it is for conservatives to manipulate sales and make money off this grift."

Now it sounds like Suen's happier:

the conservatives are pissed at me, but @mmfa and our partners succeeded in getting this stupid anti-trans children's book off the LGBTQ bestsellers and added to a more appropriate list: Political Commentary & Opinion

congrats on your bestselling commentary!!!!!pic.twitter.com/8YDlZjTeX1
— Brennan Suen (@Brennan Suen) 1639152513

GLAAD retweeted Suen and offered its own takedown: "This is horrible. @AmazonHelp Please remove this book from the LGBTQ category immediately. It is absolutely not an LGBTQ book. It specifically targets transgender people with hateful and dehumanizing rhetoric."

Anything else?

Despite the censorship, Walsh kept winding up and throwing at the left, more than likely because they refuse to leave the batter's box — which is a testament to Walsh's expert trolling in this case.

"I am beginning to feel deeply marginalized and unsafe as an LGBT author and thought leader," he also tweeted Friday, presumably wiping away a waterfall of tears.

Walsh also noted Friday that "Jussie Smollett is not the victim of an anti-gay hate crime but I am."
