Eric Swalwell mocked for saying it's 'so stupid' for parents to control their kids' education: 'What are we doing next? Putting parents in charge of their own surgeries?'

Democratic U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell was mocked Wednesday after tweeting that it's "so stupid" for parents to be in charge of their children's education, Fox News reported.

What are the details?

The California congressman reacted to a quote from Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, which read, "We are putting parents back in charge of their kids' education."

Swalwell tweeted: "Please tell me what I'm missing here. What are we doing next? Putting parents in charge of their own surgeries? Clients in charge of their own trials? When did we stop trusting experts. This is so stupid."

“Please tell me what I’m missing here. What are we doing next? Putting patients in charge of their own surgeries? Clients in charge of their own trials? When did we stop trusting experts. This is so stupid.”
— Rep. Eric Swalwell (@Rep. Eric Swalwell) 1668050544

How did folks react?

Twitter users wasted no time putting Swalwell in his place for his tone-deaf comment and faulty logic. Critics, for example, noted that patients can select their doctors, and clients can choose their attorneys.

In addition:

 • Nicki Neily, president of Parents Defending Education, jumped into the fray as well: "We stopped trusting 'experts' when they locked our kids out of classrooms, tried to force-feed them propaganda, and proved that their political agendas were more important than our kids' wellbeing."
 • Caleb Rowden, majority leader of the Missouri Senate, said Swalwell's tweet "might be the most asinine comparison and general view of a parent's role in their own child's education that I have ever seen publicly stated. Is it any wonder more and more parent's [sic] are fighting for more choice than ever before?"
 • Phillip Holloway, a lawyer and legal analyst, told Swalwell the following: "I wanted to let you know that clients actually are in charge of their trials. After all, it's their asses on the line. The major decisions are theirs and theirs alone. And yes, parents are in charge of their kids and their education."

What's more, many voters across the country disagreed with Swalwell's suggestion that parents shouldn't be in charge of their children's education.

In Florida, all six school board candidates endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) won their midterm election races. Also school board candidates backed by parental rights groups saw overwhelming victories Tuesday, shifting several boards to conservative majorities in Florida, Maryland, Indiana, and Michigan.

CNN's Don Lemon says 'I was not always perfect' as he wraps up final prime-time show — and gets mercilessly mocked

CNN's Don Lemon wrapped up an emotional finale of his prime-time program Friday night by telling viewers that "I was not always perfect" — as well as sniffling and fighting back tears — and he got roundly mocked for it.

What are the details?

Last month the embattled cable network, fighting a string of programming failures and ratings declines, announced that "Don Lemon Tonight" would be ending and that its left-wing host would be co-anchoring a new morning show alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, which will debut sometime this year.

With time running out on his final prime-time gig, Lemon told viewers, "I know I was not always perfect, because no one is perfect. Because there are immense pressures that come with this job and in particular this time slot at 10 o’clock, when people are going to bed. So sometimes all I could do — I'm gonna be honest with you — is just smile and just get to the commercial break sometimes.”

He concluded by saying, "Sometimes it was exhausting, because some of the things that we discuss here are so personal and so consuming, all-consuming. So I hope I made you proud. And I thank you for tuning in all these years. And I hope that you're gonna join me in the morning. So I will simply say good night, and I will see you soon."

Things got a little theatrical as Lemon waved at the camera and said, “I’m gonna leave, and I'm gonna go upstairs.” He did just that, standing up as the camera followed him trudging up the flight of stairs at the back of his set as he blurted out a squeaky "Bye!" and sniffled and sighed and muttered on his way out.

#journalist #donlemon quitting his show on#cnnyoutu.be

'Actually you were perfect, Don — perfectly never objective ...'

Folks commenting on the news of Lemon's final sign-off were none too kind, particularly in regard to his "I was not always perfect" utterance:

 • "It’s funny that he actually thought he was perfect sometimes," one commenter noted.
 • "Actually you were perfect, Don — perfectly never objective on every subject....but then again no one watched you, especially me," another commenter said.
 • "Rarely, if ever, perfect. Helped spread the hate and discontent," another commenter wrote.
 • "Just like he said, nobody's perfect nor always perfect," another commenter noted. "He should have said, 'I make bad judgments.' Using the word perfect [for yourself] is stroking your own ego."

As for his emotional demeanor, more mockery:

 • "I fought back tears, too," another commenter said. "Tears of joy."
 • "Being demoted is sad, but this seems like party time!" another commenter exclaimed.
 • "Hilarious," another commenter wrote.

Anything else?

Prior to the announcement of Lemon's prime-time show coming to end, his left-wing pronouncements hadn't seemed as frequent. In July, for example, he said the media should not treat Democrats and Republicans as equals because the GOP is "very dangerous to our society"; in September, he defended President Joe Biden's "semi-fascism" term to describe "MAGA Republicans," arguing Biden's words were "unifying" because some believe they are "true."

But right after the announcement, Lemon's leftism seemed revived. In fact, he suggested the vast wealth inherited by King Charles III after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, should be spent on reparations for descendants of the victims of the African slave trade — after which a British commentator raked him over the coals.

Late last month, as Hurricane Ian was hitting Florida's west coast, Lemon tried and failed to get an expert from the National Hurricane Center to blame the storm's intensity on climate change.

Democratic Louisville mayor punched in face, knocked to ground at Juneteenth event — and mockery follows: 'Just peacefully protesting, nothing to see here'

Surveillance video caught the moment Greg Fischer — the Democratic mayor of Louisville, Kentucky — was punched in the face and knocked to the ground at a Juneteenth event Saturday in the city's downtown area. Police are still looking for the suspect.

Here's the clip:

“Police in Louisville, Kentucky, are searching for a suspect they believe punched the city’s mayor at a popular downtown event complex

“Earlier this evening, while at Fourth Street Live, Mayor (Greg) Fischer was punched by an individual,” the Louisville (1/2)

#GregFischer”
— Dre Lockhart  (@Dre Lockhart ) 1655700343

What are the details?

According to WLKY-TV — which characterized the Fourth Street Live! event where Fischer was punched as a "Juneteenth celebration" — police said the blow caught the mayor in the face while he was talking to someone in the crowd.

Video shows the punch knocking Fischer to the ground.

WAVE-TV said an individual who appeared to be part of Fischer's security team briefly followed the suspect after the punch and then appeared to return to Fischer.

Emergency medical services evaluated the mayor and determined he didn't need medical treatment, WLKY reported.

The mayor's office didn't address how the suspect got past security and escaped, WLKY added.

"While it's not appropriate to comment on specifics of that [security] detail, it is always being evaluated and adjusted as needed," Jessica Wethington, the mayor's director of communications, told WLKY. "There have been no changes made to the mayor's events."

Police are still looking for the suspect, WKLY said, adding that Louisville Metro Police Department released photos of the suspect:

“Earlier this evening, while at Fourth Street Live, Mayor Fischer was punched by an individual. The Mayor is doing fine. LMPD is investigating & will release further information as it becomes available. Anyone with information can call our anonymous tip line at 502-574-5673.”
— LMPD (@LMPD) 1655600350

Greg Gitschier — a former Secret Service agent and former bodyguard of the mayor — told WHAS-TV that "it's becoming an upside-down world because lines that were never crossed so much in the past now seem to no longer matter."

'Just peacefully protesting, nothing to see here'

Many commenters unleashed mockery on Louisville police's Facebook post about the punch, with most of the derision directed toward Fischer, implying that the mayor's policies led to the physical attack on him.

"Karma. What you allow will continue. You have allowed crime to run unabashed. It will continue," one commenter wrote.

"Just peacefully protesting, nothing to see here," another commenter quipped.

Others told city police that Fischer wants them to "stand down" and not go after the suspect — presumably a reference to the claim from at least 100 officers that Fischer wanted them to "stand down" amid violent 2020 protests. The officers also wanted Fischer to resign, but the mayor denied he gave a "stand down" directive.

In addition, hundreds of officers were caught on video walking out on Fischer when he arrived to address them at an early June 2020 roll call. The officers reportedly didn't feel supported by the mayor amid violence and looting. In September 2020 the city council declared it had "no confidence" in Fischer.

Other commenters lauded the suspect who punched Fischer, saying the suspect deserves a "medal" for the blow that knocked the mayor off his feet.

"Honestly, it couldn’t have happened to a finer man," one commenter said of Fischer, while another said "maybe he should have taken care of crime in Louisville."

'Leftists have suddenly realized what a woman is again!' Pro-abortion zealots mocked for transgender crusade that's harmed biological females

Leftists who've been losing their minds over the possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade are getting soundly mocked on social media for suddenly standing up for women after openly minimizing and marginalizing them through transgender advocacy.

What are the details?

The rise of transgenderism — and the lockstep support it has received from leftists — runs into some problems when placed side by side with abortion rights.

First we've seen a number of stories about transgender men — biological women who identify as men — getting pregnant. And since leftists by and large love that pregnancy is apparently no longer the exclusive domain of "women," it would seem they'd need to stop holding signs that demand abortion protections for "women," right?

I'm the Only Pregnant Transgender Male in Texas | Extreme Love youtu.be

After all, they've been saying men can give birth, too — as evidenced by the last year's appearance of a "pregnant man" emoji — along with pushing terms like "birthing people" and "people who menstruate."

Pro-family group pushes back against 'pregnant man' emojihttps://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/pro-family-group-pushes-back-pregnant-man-emoji …
— Fox News (@Fox News) 1650986700

It culminated with Supreme Court justice-to-be Ketanji Brown Jackson infamously saying during her confirmation hearings in March that she cannot define the word "woman" because she's "not a biologist."

What's more, now that men also can give birth, the decades-old mantra that men aren't allowed to comment on abortion would seem to be wrongheaded as well.

And while not connected to abortion rights, the other huge transgender agenda item dominating the news of late has been the explosion of transgender women — biological men who identify as women — competing against biological female athletes. Incredibly many biological women, without embarrassment, advocated for it, despite such competitions consistently hurting biological female athletes.

Let the mockery commence

Here's a look at the left getting ridiculed following the news about the possible Roe v. Wade overturn. First up is our own BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales:

And just like that, all the leftists have suddenly realized what a woman is again!
— Sara Gonzales (@Sara Gonzales) 1651543538

Matt Walsh of the Daily Wire had his fun, too:

For one news cycle at least women are females again. It’s a miracle.
— Best Selling Biologist Matt Walsh (@Best Selling Biologist Matt Walsh) 1651578872
The transphobia from leftists right now is simply staggering. Overturning Roe is "an attack on women"? It's like you people have never heard of pregnant men all of a sudden. Absolutely appalling. #EndTransphobia
— Best Selling Biologist Matt Walsh (@Best Selling Biologist Matt Walsh) 1651586909

And the hits just kept on coming:

By engaging in sophistry such as “trans-women are women” the blue team has lost all credibility as a protector of women’s rights. In that context, arguments about the indifference of conservatives to the plight of women just sound delusional. #RoeVWade
— Bret Weinstein (@Bret Weinstein) 1651555040

Others saw the left's ridiculousness as well:

 • "Since 'trans women are women,' are they allowed to have an opinion on abortion, or are we still subscribing to the 'no uterus, no opinion' thing? Lolol," one commenter wondered.
 • "It’s hard to hear pro-abortion rebuttals from the same group that won’t defend women’s rights from the trans lobby and from the same group that say[s] 'men can be pregnant,'" another user offered. "All credibility and rationality has already be destroyed."
 • "Transactivists have robbed women of the collective term 'women' so we can no longer speak about our rights as a sex class which has been oppressed by men," another commenter declared. "Women now pretending to be 'trans men' have made it so abortion is now a mens' rights issue, and this is the result."
 • "Overturning Roe can't possibly be an attack on women since we cant even identify what a woman is in todays clown world," another user said. "What about all the pregnant men? How do they feel or do we not know what a male is today, either?"

Anything else?

If you want proof that many leftists remain true believers in this stuff, check out the deluge of tweets underscoring that abortion rights are for transgender and non-binary folks as opposed to women only.

Washington Football Team — after scrubbing 'offensive' Redskins name in 2020 — is now the Commanders. And mockers are already nicknaming team 'Commies.'

The Washington Football Team — formerly known as the Redskins, which NBC News characterized as a "long-used racist slur against Native Americans" — has a new name.

Hey, D.C. fans — you now have the Washington Commanders to cheer on at FedEx Field.

What are the details?

The team's Wednesday announcement of its new name comes a year and a half after employing "the Football Team" as a placeholder name following the decision to scrub the Redskins moniker in July 2020 amid increased racism outcries over the death of George Floyd.

NBC News didn't use the word "Redskins" in its article about the name change, but the network did say the team was "criticized for using an offensive name, which mocked Native Americans."

Team president Jason Wright said the Commanders moniker “has the weight and meaning befitting a 90-year-old franchise," NBC News added.

“It’s something that broadly resonated with our fans, and it’s something that we believe embodies the values of service and leadership that really define the DMV [i.e., DC/Maryland/Virginia] and this community. It’s also something importantly that we can own and grow for the next 90 years,” Wright added on "Today," the network said.

Here's a video introducing the Commanders:

One legacy. One unified future.

We are the Washington Commanders

#TakeCommandpic.twitter.com/Eav9NOV5Mm
— Washington Commanders (@Washington Commanders) 1643807505

NBC News said other names that had been under final consideration included the Armada, Presidents, Brigade, Red Hogs, Red Wolves, and Defenders.

How are folks reacting to 'Commanders'?

As you might expect, plenty of folks are not fans of the team's new name:

 • "So let me get this straight: they replaced the Washington Redskins and their awesome logo of a Native American warrior with the 'Washington Commanders' to honor the white guys who conquered them?" one Twitter commenter observed.
 • “'4th and 25 for the Washington Commanders' has a nice ring to it," another user quipped. "I like it!"
 • "Good to see the #Washington @commanders have decided to continue the team’s long tradition ... of making bad decisions," another commenter said.

Even the team's star defensive end Chase Young graded "Commanders" with an F when asked about it along with other possible new names late last year:

Chase Young graded potential Washington team names in November…

He gave the Commanders a F pic.twitter.com/IHRxRqkfJI
— PFF (@PFF) 1643808228

Others quickly noted what could be an unfortunate team nickname: The Commies. Sports podcaster Pat McAfee saw it right away:

Rebranding is always gonna be tough and I think “The Washington Commanders” is a good name..

Now of course.. They’re gonna be called The Commies.. they’re red.. in the Nation’s capital but nonetheless.. Commanders is a good name
— 🅿️at McAfee (@🅿️at McAfee) 1643808262

Others couldn't help letting their mockery fly over "commies" also:

 • "Haha. The Washington Commies!!!" another Twitter user said. "So fitting for DC these days lol."
 • "Can't wait to hear the 'Let's Go Commies!' chants at FedEx field," another commenter wrote. "Great choice...lol"
 • "Washington Commanders is a mouthful and people will want a way to shorten it up," another use said. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I present: The Washington Commies."

Anything else?

The Redskins name had been drawing an increasing degree of protest in recent years, but amid 2020's rioting and social media mobs rallying to dismantle and cancel just about anything attached to the slightest hint of racism, cultural appropriation, colonialism, or white supremacy — even if connections were centuries in the past — the team had greater motivation to fall in line.

The Washington franchise made other moves with the same politically correct flavor, such as dropping cheerleaders in favor of a coed dance squad in order to "be more inclusive" in early 2021. And just prior to last season, it banned fans from wearing Native American headdresses and face paint at home games.

Interestingly, back in 2016, the Washington Post released a poll indicating that a vast majority of Native Americans didn't have a problem with Washington's then-mascot, the Redskins.

Pundits brutally mock CNN for announcing news team 'dedicated to covering misinformation': 'CNN to create a team dedicated to covering CNN'

Pundits brutally mocked CNN over the cable network's announcement that it's creating a news team "dedicated to covering misinformation."

What are the details?

Alex Koppelman, managing editor of CNN Business, tweeted Tuesday that he's "hiring 3 people for a new CNN team dedicated to covering misinformation.”

What do we mean by covering misinformation? Really it's about covering reality: The uses, abuses, and distortions of it, the people twisting it, and the effect that has on all of us. We already do a lot of important work on this; we want to do more.
— Alex Koppelman (@Alex Koppelman) 1642539496

“What do we mean by covering misinformation?” he tweeted next. “Really it’s about covering reality: The uses, abuses, and distortions of it, the people twisting it, and the effect that has on all of us. We already do a lot of important work on this; we want to do more.”

Koppelman also described the ideal reporters for the new team: “Do you feel like you have to jump down every rabbit hole you see? Do you get mad when you see liars taking advantage of people? Do you spend more time on the internet than anyone really should? This might be the job for you!"

How did folks react?

Ever since former President Donald Trump blasted CNN as "fake news" at a press conference just prior to his inauguration, the network in numerous instances has seemed to live up to that dubious billing.

So pundits wasted no time mocking CNN for its intention to create a news team "covering misinformation."

BlazeTV host Steve Deace and podcast host Daniel Horowitz poked some fun at the announcement, with Deace writing, "Wow, impressed that CNN is investing real resources into internal accountability.” Horowitz noted that the network "will need at least one staffer per reporter they have to properly shadow.”

And Candace Owens of the Daily Wire quipped: “CNN to create a team dedicated to covering CNN.”

Other reactions were most definitely in that vein:

 • “Beyond parody." — Buck Sexton
 • “The call is coming from INSIDE the house!” — Monica Crowley
 • "This is like the police investigating themselves, finding themselves innocent, then pinning the charge on someone else." — Libertarian Party of New Hampshire
 • “The propaganda is going into overdrive now. Just when we thought 2022 couldn’t get any worse…” — Adel Meyer, political commentator
 • “Pretty sure the entire network is already devoted to misinformation.” — Sean Davis of the Federalist
 • "May I suggest they begin with the Charlottesville #FinePeopleHoax, a damnable calumny that CNN has propagated for years 5 years now? My repudiation of their role in spreading that myth led, in fact, to my departure from broadcasting for CNN." — Steve Cortes, political commentator
 • "Translation: CNN is looking to hire three people whose job it will be to attack non-liberals who get online traction with truths which contradict/question/embarrass the accepted liberal narrative…" — John Ziegler, Mediate senior columnist
 • “This is rather surprising. You don’t normally hear of left-wing networks hiring staff to call out its fellow anchors, reporters and analysts for spreading nonsense. Kudos to CNN for finally looking in a mirror to call out their misinformation and disingenuous takes.” — Jason Rantz, conservative commentator and radio host

Kamala Harris mercilessly mocked after tweeting that US is 'moving again' due to infrastructure package when freezing drivers were stranded on I-95 near DC

Vice President Kamala Harris was the recipient of a big dose of mockery after tweeting Tuesday that America is "moving again" due to the new, Democrat-backed $1.2 trillion infrastructure spending package.

Because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, America is moving again. That's what infrastructure is all about: getting people moving.
— Vice President Kamala Harris (@Vice President Kamala Harris) 1641316560

"Because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, America is moving again," Harris wrote in her ill-timed tweet. "That's what infrastructure is all about: getting people moving."

See, the problem was that the Harris tweet hailing the notion that "America is moving again" was posted at the same time hundreds of freezing motorists were still stranded on Interstate 95 in Virginia.

Traffic between Ruther Glen in Caroline County and Dumfries in Prince William County — not too far from Washington, D.C., where Harris calls home — came to standstill Monday and stayed that way overnight amid freezing temperatures and vehicles running out of gas.

How did folks react to Harris' tweet?

As you might imagine, quite a few commenters pointed out to the vice president that the stranded drivers in her figurative back yard likely weren't singing the praises of the infrastructure spending package or chanting "America is moving again!"

To wit:

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but the below video alone tells me that people aren’t “moving” on a very critical piece of actual infrastructure which is located not far from our nation’s capital where you are located in a warm and toasty place at this hourhttps://twitter.com/stevechenevey/status/1478338388818284544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1478338388818284544%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fredstate.com%2Fsister-toldjah%2F2022%2F01%2F04%2Fsecond-look-at-pete-buttigieg-after-insane-tone-deaf-kamala-harris-tweet-in-midst-of-i-95-crisis-n501679 …
— COVID19 Paranoia and Cowardice (@COVID19 Paranoia and Cowardice) 1641333813

And the hits just kept on coming:

 • "Why, why oh why would anyone think this tweet is a good idea at the same time I-95 is trending for a 12 hour+ 30-50 mile standstill?" one commenter wrote. "Are you guys *trying* to write GOP midterm attack ads for them?"
 • "Hey Kamala, Heads up: Someone on your social media comms team hates you," another user said. "Great timing."
 • "Of all the days to say this, today is the funniest," another user declared.
 • "You can’t seem to get your footing," another commenter said. "I’m trying to be supportive but when a major highway shuts down for over 20 hours with no solution, this is not the day for this tweet

Other commenters pointed out that Democratic U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine was among the stranded parties:

Unless you’re Tim Kainepic.twitter.com/DFUYcsFnc3
— Morgan Wilde (@Morgan Wilde) 1641321999

"One of your senators literally isn’t moving, he’s been stuck for 24 hours on the highway with thousands of other people because our infrastructure sucks butt," another user said in regard to Kaine.

Ready for another left-wing faux pas?

Others — presumably those left of center politically — enjoyed pointing out that the not-ready-for-freezing-weather roadways actually are the fault of Glenn Youngkin, a Republican who was elected Virginia governor in November:

Except in Virginia. Thanks to Youngkin
— Scott (@Scott) 1641324730

Fair point — save for the fact that Youngkin hasn't yet taken office. He'll be inaugurated Jan. 15.

MLB commissioner who dumped Atlanta for All-Star Game due to GA voting law gets massively mocked now that Braves are in World Series

Major League Baseball's woke idea in early April apparently was to punish Georgia for what it viewed as its unfair, recently passed voting law by yanking the All-Star Game from Atlanta.

At the time, MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred Jr. said the move was "the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport," that pro baseball "fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions at the ballot box," and that "fair access to voting continues to have our game's unwavering support."

Georgia's election reforms include requiring absentee ballots be verified with a photo ID and expanding early voting for primary and general elections — changes generally supported by Republicans and opposed by Democrats.

'Cancel culture and woke political activists'

After Manfred dumped Atlanta as the All-Star Game's host city, Georgia's Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said "Georgians — and all Americans — should fully understand what the MLB's knee-jerk decision means: cancel culture and woke political activists are coming for every aspect of your life, sports included."

He added, "This attack on our state is the direct result of repeated lies from Joe Biden and Stacey Abrams about a bill that expands access to the ballot box and ensures the integrity of our elections. I will not back down. Georgians will not be bullied. We will continue to stand up for secure, accessible, fair elections."

The Braves also issued a statement upon hearing the news saying they were "deeply disappointed" in the decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta and that "unfortunately, businesses, employees, and fans in Georgia are the victims of this decision."

Indeed, according to Fox News, the move actually would hurt minorities by moving revenue from 51% black Atlanta to 76% white Denver, the All-Star Game's eventual landing spot.

Georgia gets some sweet revenge

Well, Manfred may have been able to deny Georgia a big national spotlight — along with coveted cash — by pulling the All-Star Game from Atlanta this year, but there's nothing he can do about the Braves punching their ticket to the World Series after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the National League Championship over the weekend.

The Braves will host at least games 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday in Atlanta against the Houston Astros — and possibly game 5 on Sunday.

What was the reaction?

In the eyes of many folks, the Braves' appearance in the Series is some big-time comeuppance for Manfred and all those who supported dumping Atlanta for the All-Star Game.

At the top of the list was Kemp, who took aim again at Abrams — who has been a prominent voice against the state's voting law — as well as the MLB: "While Stacey Abrams and the MLB stole the All-Star Game from hardworking Georgians, the Braves earned their trip to the World Series this season and are bringing it home to Georgia. Chop On, and Go @Braves!"

While Stacey Abrams and the MLB stole the All-Star Game from hardworking Georgians, the Braves earned their trip to… https://t.co/wjil9uNRJ1

— Brian Kemp (@BrianKempGA) 1635047169.0

Another prominent Georgia Republican, Marci McCarthy — chair of the DeKalb GOP — reveled in the turn of events:

Congratulations @Braves ! ⚾️ Who needs the @MLB All Star Game when you get to play in the World Series! #GoBraves

— Marci McCarthy (@MarciMcCarthyUS) 1635047919.0

Other Twitter users expressed similar emotions:

 • "So now the woke-social justice warrior moron, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, has to watch the team, the city, and the state he screwed — on the biggest stage — the only one bigger than the All-Star game," talk radio station WJNO-AM said.
 • "Big Middle Finger to @MLB & Rob Manfred from the city of ATL," one user said. "Would love to see Manchild 'forced' to present them the Series trophy after Game 5 in front of stadium full of fans from which he ripped Henry Aaron All-Star tribute ..."
 • "Rob Manfred has to come to Atlanta for the World Series!!" another user said. "Eat. S**t. MLB."
 • "Now we need the Braves to win the series in 4 or 5 so Rob Manfred has to be here to face the fans to present the trophy after taking the All-Star Game," another user noted.
 • "I wonder how Rob Manfred feels about the city of Atlanta and Braves being in World Series after canceling All-Star game," another user mused. "Another horrible hypocrite that should not show his face at World Series."
 • I hope the @Braves go on & win the World Series at Truist Park! We'll see how warm of a reception Rob Manfred gets when he has to present the [Trophy] in Atlanta after moving the All-Star game in a 'woke' political move that has nothing to do with baseball."

And on the day the Braves got the bad news about the All-Star Game moving — April 2 — one user posted a humorous tweet referring to a famous scene from the beloved baseball movie, "Major League," which marks the turning point for the frustrated franchise in the film:

@Braves well, then I guess there is one thing left to do this year..... #ChopOn https://t.co/2PBJXFye58 https://t.co/MOILcuzTSC

— Brad Rose (@Brose1855) 1617404579.0

And the guy who posted the original tweet revisited it Sunday: "Only fitting ending is for Rob Manfred to hand the trophy to the @Braves organization."

Mayor Bill de Blasio mocked over 'cringe' stunt aimed at enticing New Yorkers to get vaccinated

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) received a lot of attention online Thursday after he made a big production of a promotion aimed at enticing his constituents to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

But reactions were overwhelmingly critical of de Blasio's display, mocking him for an array of reasons.

What are the details?

De Blasio was plugging an offer from Shake Shack, a burger chain offering a free burger and fries to New York City customers who present confirmation that they have been fully vaccinated.

To drive the point home, de Blasio munched on fries while still talking and holding up the side item, saying, "You're saying I can get these delicious fries — wait a minute, but there's also a burger element to this?"

The mayor then holds up a burger for all to see, saying, "I want you to look at this and think about — again some people like hamburgers, some don't, I really want to respect all ways of life — if this is appealing to you, just think of this when you think of vaccination."

He then takes a bite, saying, "Mmmmmm ... vaccination. I'm getting a very good feeling about vaccination right at this moment."

Several observers on Twitter took issue with using fast food to lure people into getting vaccinated, saying that promoting unhealthy eating seemed counterproductive.

"One of the most American things I've ever seen," one person wrote. "Play on emotions, entice the obese with unhealthy food, this is the ultimate cringe, WTF!"

Some took issue with de Blasio's table manners. One person tweeted, "Is that how he really eats fries? What the hell?" Others said they were surprised to see de Blasio eating the burger and fries with his hands like a normal person, after he went viral in 2014 for eating pizza with a fork and knife.

A handful of folks said that Shake Shack's deal was a far cry from what is being offered in other parts of the country, pointing out that Ohio is holding a lottery and giving away five $1 million prizes to vaccinated adults.

The general consensus was that the presser was "just straight up weird."
