Easter Sunday drag queen event-goers mock Christ, Mary in San Francisco: 'I’m rewriting history so that Jesus never existed'

Participants in an annual Easter Sunday drag queen event in San Francisco mocked Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and a number of values many Christians and conservatives share.

What are the details?

Readers of Blaze News should recall the antics of notorious drag group the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Well, the Sisters have been putting on the Easter event in San Francisco for decades, and this year a crowd of about 10,000 gathered in Dolores Park for the 45th annual "party," according to SFist.

Finalists for the "Hunky Jesus 2024" costume contest included Disco Ball Jesus, Golden Shower Jesus, Trailer Trash Jesus, and the eventual winner, Jesus Ken, who dressed up in a a Barbie toy box with his arms outstretched on a makeshift cross.

One drag queen, Sister Roma, asked, ”Is it wrong that I’m attracted to Trailer Trash Jesus?” SFist reported.

More from the outlet:

The Sisters did a nice turn where they brought last year’s Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary contest winners back onstage. The ensemble group and 2023 Hunky Jesus champions Haus of Jesus did a political “From the River to the Sea” dance protest (one of a few pro-Palestine messages that came up over the course of the day). Last year’s Foxy Mary winner, Free Choice Mary, announced her new pro-choice political project.

“I was really inspired to do this when the Sisters were under fire for what happened with the L.A. Dodgers,” Free Choice Mary noted to SFist.

Last June hundreds of protesters of various religions demonstrated against the Los Angeles Dodgers for honoring the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence with a Community Heroes award on the team's Pride Night.

Free Choice Mary added to SFist that “my photo was actually being used on conservative websites as ‘trans man winning an abortion award.’ I want to spread the word that religion and abortion actually do intersect in a beautiful and compassionate way.”

More from the outlet:

Other Marys in the Foxy Mary contests included Make Love Not War Mary, Extra Virgin Mary, and a Miscarriage Mary (“I’m rewriting history so that Jesus never existed,” she told the crowd). The finals came down to the very sweet Maria de Confecciones Immaculada, and Puta Mary, who won thanks to a raucous cheering section from St. James Infirmary.

But your Easter Bonnet Contest winner was Miguel Gutierrez, seen above with his bear-y good Statue of Liberty bonnet. Gutierrez told us that part of his inspiration was that “Today is Transgender Day of Visibility.”

“Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment,” the group says on its website, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. “We use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency, and guilt that chain the human spirit.”

Critics savagely mock 'bystander intervention cards' from Bay Area transit system to be handed out amid harassment situations

Critics are brutally mocking "bystander intervention cards" touted by Northern California's Bay Area Rapid Transit system for use during harassment situations.

BART on Friday posted instructions on X about the cards: "You can ask any station agent for BART’s free bystander intervention cards, which you can use if you’re experiencing or witnessing harassment in stations and trains."

The post includes a video featuring two female college students who ride BART and explain how the cards work. When riders are being harassed, they can hand out the "You got me?" cards as a request for help; when riders believe they are witnessing others being harassed, they can hand out the "I got you" cards to the perceived victim:

— (@)

One student in the video says the cards "give me a concrete way to deal with an unsafe situation. I'm not very equipped to deal with them on my own, and so these cards give me a sense of community and a sense of support."

The second student says "especially for young college students and for youth, I think these cards are really accessible. It just gives a really easy way to either help someone or to ask for help without having to do much. If everyone has one then we'll just be able to support each other so much better and feel safer."

Oh, and they're free.

Here's the primary post with the video:

— (@)

How are people reacting?

As you might expect, critics haven't been too kind to BART and its "bystander intervention cards." As of Monday afternoon, BART's primary post is getting ratioed at two-to-one rate. Here are but a few of the many blistering reactions:

  • "Are children running BART? This is a shamefully juvenile approach to crime. Why don’t you hang 'crime-free zone' signs? Worked so well in those drug-free zones. Wish I could fire who is behind this," one commenter wrote.
  • "When you see someone getting stabbed, hand them an 'I got you' card and wait for them to ask you to call someone," another user quipped.
  • "Have you tried doing an interpretive dance to stop attackers yet?" another commenter wondered.
  • "Are you f***ing kidding me?" another user asked.
  • "This is what happens when sociology majors are given power to make decisions," another commenter observed.
  • "This is parody, right?" another user queried.
  • "Clearly you guys posted this 2 days early," another commenter noted. "April 1st is a not here yet."
  • "Here are the rules for men," another user stated. "1. Help the woman being attacked. 2. If you injure the attacker, you go to jail."
  • "This is not real right!? This is a sketch comedy routine right? Cause unless those cards 'magically' transport you out of the situation then they are useless! And BTW, who can up with this idea? What [clown] got paid money to come up with this!?" another commenter asked.

Then there's this gem:

Anything else?

BART added in its post that the bystander intervention cards "were created as part of BART’s Not One More Girl campaign, which encourages safety through bystander support and awareness, especially for girls and gender-expansive youth."

MSNBC anchor starts sobbing as he begins Jan. 6 anniversary interview — and observers mercilessly mock him

MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart started sobbing as he began a Jan. 6 anniversary interview Saturday — and observers mercilessly mocked the anchor for his emotional display.

What are the details?

Prior to interviewing Michael Fanone, a former Washington, D.C., police officer, Capehart's voice seized up and began to break as he struggled to say, "I'm gonna try to get through this."

Capehart paused to dab his nose with what appeared to be a hanky or piece of tissue.

"Thank you," Capehart then said to Fanone, his voice still shaky.

With that, the camera quickly pulled away from Capehart and focused only on Fanone — which is when Capehart's sobs were on full display.

"For what you did," Capehart blubbered, barely hanging on to his emotions, as he continued his thank you to Fanone, "three years ago today."

Fanone at first was looking at Capehart:

Then, he averted his gaze downward after Capehart shifted to full sob mode:

Regaining his composure, Capehart asked Fanone to "please tell me your thoughts on this third anniversary."

Here's the clip:

How are folks reacting?

As you might guess, Capehart's sob show annoyed a fair number of notable folks:

  • "State propaganda has reached a new level," conservative figure Collin Rugg said while calling Capehart's emotional display "unreal."
  • Libs of TikTok said, "These people are pathetic paid actors!"
  • Author Margaret Kimberley stated, "Move over Van Jones, now Jonathan Capehart is crying."
  • Conservative pundit Carmine Sabia wrote, "Jonathan Capehart — you, my man, are a woman. ... the acting is so piss poor it’s hilarious. The more they push this January-6-is-the-same-as-9/11 nonsense, the more hilarious it gets. It’s beyond desperate."
  • Podcaster Kyle Becker observed, "Capehart actually had a tissue prop on hand for this act. Pathetic!"

Believe it or not, Capehart pushed back later Saturday on X: “And I’d do it again!”

But commenters still weren't letting him off the hook.

Brandon Straka, leader of the #WalkAway movement for disgruntled Democrats, told Capehart: "You had many opportunities to do it again: your side attacked, beat, injured, and murdered police relentlessly throughout 2020. You also defunded them and demoralized them. You advocated for all of this. You didn’t cry for any of it. Weird."

Chad Prather stated bluntly, "You're an insult to vaginas."

Another commenter provided the following dose of dark humor:

Washington Post guild doesn't want folks to read Post stories Thursday out of 'respect' for 24-hour walkout. Mockery ensues.

The Washington Post guild sent a message this week seeking widespread solidarity, asking folks not to read Post stories Thursday out of "respect" for its planned 24-hour walkout.

More than a few social media users mocked the guild's request.

What are the details?

Reuters said the daylong "strike" is a protest against staff cuts and what unionized journalists at the paper said is management's failure to bargain in good faith in regard to contract talks that have "stretched on for 18 months."

Here's a video the guild posted Tuesday to X:

— (@)

The guild also posted a message on X to the "dedicated readers" of the Post:

— (@)

"On Dec. 7, we ask you to respect our walkout by not crossing the picket line: For 24 hours, please do not engage with any Post content," the message reads. "That includes our print + online news stories, podcasts, videos, games and recipes."

Uh oh

As you might imagine, quite a number of folks hit social media to mock and ridicule the guild's request. Here's a sampling:

  • "My contempt for the @washingtonpost is rivaled only by my contempt for its employees," one commenter wrote. "So maybe I'll check out the 'Style' section Thursday."
  • "We're laughing at you, not with you," another user quipped.
  • "I will be clicking on every WaPo article I can," another commenter shot back before adding, "Learn to code."
  • "This is not going to be difficult for me. At all. Ever," another user added.
  • "I'll do better than that: I promise to not read any WaPo content ever again," another commenter promised.
  • "This legitimately might be the only time I intentionally read the @washingtonpost," another user revealed.
  • "I guess this means I'll be unblocking the @washingtonpost for a day," another commenter shared. "I despise the fascist 'journalists' more than the paper itself."

Colts starting safety Khari Willis gets ridiculed by some for retiring from NFL to become Christian minister: 'God isn't real this is crazy'

Indianapolis Colts starting safety Khari Willis turned more than a few heads Wednesday when he announced his retirement from the NFL after just three seasons in the league — so he can become a Christian minister.

Here's Willis' Instagram post explaining it all:

"With much prayer and deliberation, I have elected to officially retire from the NFL as I endeavor to devote the remainder of my life to the further advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ," Willis wrote in part. "I thank all of my family, friends, and those who have supported me on this journey thus far, and I look forward to your continued support through the next phase of my life. I am both humbled and excited to pursue the holy call that God has for my life which brings me much joy and purpose ..."

How did folks react?

It appeared the vast majority of folks reacting to Willis' announcement respected his decision — like Frank Reich, head coach of the Colts.

"We're thankful and appreciative of Khari's contributions to the Colts both on and off the field over the last three seasons," Reich said in a statement, according to ESPN. "Khari's character, leadership, and professionalism will be missed in our locker room as will his play on Sundays. I admire and respect his decision to transition into the next stage of his life and ministry and my prayers will always be with him."

'Yikes, what an IDIOT'

But some folks weren't too thrilled about Willis' decision — and some detractors got downright nasty. Here are but a few Twitter bombs:

  • "God isn’t real this is crazy," one commenter said in reaction to the news.
  • "Giving up a proven career that makes you millions of dollars for a magic man in the sky who doesn't exist is a strange choice but alrighty then," another user declared.
  • "It's pretty selfish for the being you worship to essentially strip you of your childhood, teenage and college years to train and give it your all to the sport of football, for you to reach the pinnacle of the sport, the NFL, and then say, 'Nah, go teach others about me instead…" another commenter opined.
  • "I really wish people who are grateful stop using Jesus, Lord & God in their statements. If you wanna feel that way, fine. Just don’t say it in public," another user stated. "It’s insulting to us who aren’t religious."
  • "Bruh if my god ever told me to quit on making millions of dollars to be a priest instead I would straight up tell him to kick rocks," another commenter revealed. "Nah man there’s plenty of other 'gods' bruh I wish I had this opportunity. Just get a different god and keep gettin that bag."
  • "This is so bizarre…. I mean he’ll never make the money he’ll make in the NFL as a preacher…. Somebody needs to step in and try to talk some sense into this guy," another user wrote.
  • "Stupidest s**t I've read all day," another commenter shared.
  • "Yikes, what an IDIOT," another user wrote.

Anything else?

If there are remaining questions about Willis' heart and character, the following tweet should seal the deal:

\u201cOne part of Khari Willis\u2019 career that few knew about: he spent his entire rookie year sleeping on a pullout couch at @PeytonChildrens, where his twin boys \u2014 born 3 months premature, weighing less than 2 lbs each \u2014 were fighting for their lives: \n\nhttps://t.co/ya4qhfqB6o\u201d

As protests and pushback against Russia's invasion of Ukraine are picking up steam in a growing number of nations, the Daily Mail reported that images of Russian President Vladimir Putin looking like Adolf Hitler are popping up all over the place — and that even "Adolf Putin" graffiti has been scrawled on Russian buildings.

What are the details?

The outlet noted that the the "Adolf Putin" epithet was written on a wall in Putin's hometown of St. Petersburg as demonstrators have demanded the Russian president end the escalating invasion of Ukraine.

What else?

A European Union spokesman said Friday that Putin's actions are comparable to the Nazis' in World War II, the Daily Mail noted.

"He is talking about de-Nazifying Ukraine, but he behaves like Nazis," Peter Stano told reporters in Brussels, the outlet said. "So this is all in his head."

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appeared to blast President Joe Biden and others in an early Friday morning video, saying that Ukraine has been "left alone" to defend itself against invading Russian forces while Biden watches "from a distance."

Russian troops moved into Ukraine's capital city Kyiv on Friday, as officials urged residents to stay indoors and "prepare Molotov cocktails" to defend against the advancing enemy force, the New York Times reported.

While Ukraine claimed Putin suffered significant losses, including a missile strike at military base in Russia, other video showed a Ukrainian plane shot down over Kyiv.

'As empty gestures go, impressive': WaPo's Jennifer Rubin mocks Pope Francis' visit to Russian embassy over Ukraine invasion — and gets torched for it

Pope Francis visited the Russian embassy to the Holy See on Friday to express concern over Russia's invasion of Ukraine — a move that Reuters characterized as an "unprecedented departure from diplomatic protocol."

The outlet said Moscow's ambassador, Aleksandr Avdeyev, told the RIA Novosti news agency that during the 40-minute meeting, Francis expressed "great concern" about Ukraine's humanitarian situation and quoted the pontiff as calling "for the protection of children, the protection of the sick and suffering, and the protection of people."

But formerly conservative Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin wasn't impressed.

What did she say?

Replying to a tweet from NBC News' chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel on the pope's appeal, Rubin remarked, "As empty gestures go, impressive."

How are folks reacting?

As you might imagine, a number of Twitter users who caught wind of Rubin's five-word dismissal of Pope Francis' rare act were equally dismissive of Rubin and her words:

  • "Yeah Jen, there definitely aren’t over a billion Catholics to be spoken for, and the Holy Father has never played a role in liberating Eastern Europe, definitely not a thing that happened 30-40 years ago," one commenter noted.
  • "Like changing your Twitter name to 'I stand with Ukraine.' What does that even mean?" another user wondered. "Did you fly to the Ukraine, take up arms, and are right now helping them defend their country?"
  • "She's literally saved 40 billion lives by changing her Twitter name to include 'I stand with Ukraine,'" another user mocked in reference to Rubin.
  • "God you are an awful human being," another commenter declared. "What has your god, Joe Biden, done for the people of Ukraine other than get them killed? Burn in hell, witch."
  • "Really Jennifer?!! An empty gesture!! Pope Francis and his words, thoughts, and actions, have significant influence around the world!" another user said. "His words have way more significance than yours! So why don’t you take your empty gesture words and go to Kyiv and stand with Ukraine and fight!"
pic.twitter.com/66OcC5LDga
— Drew Holden (@Drew Holden) 1645805303

Anything else?

Reuters noted that a pope visiting an embassy to talk to an ambassador in a time of conflict "is unprecedented in living memory," adding that the Vatican's secretary of state usually summons foreign envoys to meet with the pope in the Apostolic Palace.

The outlet also said that prior to Russia's invasion, Andriy Yurash — Ukraine's ambassador to the Vatican — told Reuters that Kyiv would be open to a Vatican mediation of the conflict.
