Liberal media conflates murderers with migrants in desperate effort to smear Trump

The liberal media helped set the stage for two assassination attempts against President Donald Trump, advancing false narratives and alarmist rhetoric. Various publications have doubled down in recent weeks, characterizing Kamala Harris' opponent as the embodiment of evil but, more specifically, as the second coming of Adolf Hitler.

NBC News, the Washington Post, and other Democratic-boosting publications dutifully did their part Monday, suggesting that Trump outed himself as a racist and a eugenicist — perhaps of the Planned Parenthood varietyin conversation with radio host Hugh Hewitt earlier in the day.

Of course, this latest false narrative relies upon both a willful misinterpretation of Trump's remarks as well as their de-contextualization.

Background

Patrick Lechleitner, deputy director of ICE, noted in a Sept. 25 letter to Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) that as of July 21, 2024, "There were 662,566 noncitizens with criminal histories on ICE's national docket, which includes those detained by ICE, and on the agency's non-detained docket."

Lechleitner's letter further revealed that over 13,000 illegal aliens were living outside of ICE detention and that another 1,845 illegal aliens had pending homicide cases.

Trump has in recent days cited the figure as further evidence that the Biden-Harris administration's failure to secure the southern border has endangered Americans.

In conversation Monday with Hewitt, Trump criticized Kamala Harris, stressing that she is a "mentally deficient person," who cannot manage to do anything right. Harris' apparent deficit is all the more troubling, suggested Trump, because she seeks to manage virtually every aspect of Americans' lives.

"She wants to go into government housing. She wants to go into government feeding. She wants to feed people. She wants to feed people governmentally. She wants to go into a Communist Party-type of a system," said Trump. "When you look at the things that she proposes, they're so far off. She has no clue."

The Republican added:

How about allowing people to come through an open border — 13,000 of which were murderers. Many of them murdered far more than one person, and they're now happily living in the United States. You know, now, a murderer — I believe this — it's in their genes. And we've got a lot of bad genes in our country right now. They left — they had 425,000 people come into our country that shouldn't be here that are criminals.

Trump made no mention of race when speaking collectively of murderers.

After all, those pouring over the southern border under Harris' watch are racially diverse. Pew Research indicated the illegal alien population from nearly every region around the world grew under the Biden-Harris administration, such that even illegal aliens from Europe and Asia saw increased representation.

In the excerpt, Trump insinuated that murderers' violent disposition may be inherent (i.e., "it's in their genes") and that America suffers as a result of the presence of so many imported murderers.

Liberal press rushes to mislead

In its report of Trump's remarks, NBC News neglected to note that Trump was specifically referring to murderers in the country illegally. The publication also decided to conflate illegal aliens with immigrants more broadly, titling its piece, "Trump suggests immigrants have 'bad genes.'"

There was no mistaking the publication's intent as it made sure not only to parrot a Hitler accusation from the defunct Biden campaign but to suggest Trump was dabbling in "race science."

Rikki Ratliff-Fellman, director of programming at Blaze Media, responded, "THE ACTUAL QUOTE WAS: 'You know, now a murderer, I believe this, it's in their genes. And we've got a lot of bad genes in our country right now.' Per ICE: Over 13K illegal immigrants convicted of murder have been released into US. Where the HELL are your editors?!"

Blaze News senior editor Cortney Weil called out NBC News, writing, "Calling Trump a racist and implying that he's Hitler-adjacent. A completely new and original angle. Will likely impact his chances in November."

Brittany Hughes, managing editor at MRCTV, tweeted, "Trump said *murderers* have bad genes, and that Biden/Harris have allowed thousands of *murderers* into the country. Which is true. Lying @NBCNews is running the old 'murderers and rapists' hoax again."

Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told NBC News, "He was clearly talking about MURDERERS — not migrants."

NBC News was not, however, alone in glossing over the intended and obvious meaning of Trump's remarks.

Jeff Bezos' Washington Post, a key media exponent of the Russian collusion hoax, appeared keen to outdo the absurdity of other liberal publications with an article titled "Trump finally just says that some immigrants are genetically inferior."

After torpedoing his own thesis by alluding to past Trump references to luck and genetics, which lacked racial connotations, Philip Bump claimed that Trump specifically suggested "non-White immigrants are genetically inferior."

Despite the diversity of the criminals flooding into the country, Bump presumed "racism" on Trump's part, then mounted a defense of illegal aliens stealing into the homeland.

The Washington Post has already walked back its original headline, such that Bump's misleading piece is now titled, "Saying immigrants bring 'bad genes' echoes Trump's history — and the world's."

That didn't stop another Post writer, Jennifer Rubin, from once again signaling her poor grounding in reality, then insinuating Trump should be silenced.

"This is fascism," wrote Rubin, who previously fumbled a hit piece against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. "Giving someone a platform for this is reprehensible."

Politico, a publication that recently beclowned itself trying to help Kamala Harris, suggested that Trump was arguing that "immigrants are predisposed to violence" — missing the fact that Trump explicitly suggested that murderers might share a gene in common.

The Huffington Post's Matt Shuham unsurprisingly joined the game, writing, "The xenophobic claim that immigrants are genetically predisposed to committing violent crimes is shocking and false — but xenophobia is also a cornerstone of Trump’s presidential campaign."

NBC News defends LGBT activists' threat, 'We're coming for your children,' and reassures that it 'has been used for years at Pride events'

Conservatives concerned about the safety and welfare of their kids recently expressed outrage over the news that LGBT activists marching in New York City's annual transvestite parade Friday had threatened, "We're here, we're queer, we're coming for your children!"

NBC News attempted to defuse the situation and put parents' fears to bed Tuesday with the reassurance that LGBT activists have been threatening to come after American children for years.

Los Angeles-based NBC News journalist Tyler Kingkade, formerly an editor at HuffPost, wrote, "To conservative pundits, activists and lawmakers, the video confirmed the allegations they've levied in recent years that the LGBTQ community is 'grooming' children."

According to the original organizer of the NYC Drag March, Brian Griffin, "If that's the worst they heard, it's only because he wasn't there this year," said Kingkade.

"Griffin said he chanted obscene things in the past, like 'Kill, kill, kill, we’re coming to kill the mayor,' and joked about pubic hair and sex toys during marches. People at the Drag March regularly sing 'God is a lesbian,'" reported NBC News.

Kingkade, who elsewhere claims he is best known for his "coverage of abusive treatment of young people," stressed that the "'coming for your children' chant has been used for years at Pride events, according to longtime march attendees and gay rights activists, who said it's one of many provocative expressions used to regain control of slurs against LGBTQ people."

Besides, it's not the only threat chanted at the march, according to Kingkade.

At last year's march, transvestites reportedly chanted, "Ten percent is not enough: Groom! Groom! Groom!"

The NBC News journalist indicated that conservatives have long stigmatized the "queer community" by associating those who defend drag performances in front of children and "classroom discussions of gender identity with pedophiles." In claiming that those who defend sexual displays and sexual conversations with children are "groomers," Kingkade reckons conservatives are trying to "paint the community as a threat to the country's youths."

The liberal publication's reassurance that there is a precedent for LGBT activists threatening to take and groom American children appears not to have achieved the intended effect.

Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, responded, "DEMONIC: @NBCNews defends targeting of children by extremists."

Musician Brad Skistimas of Five Times August recommended that somebody "please check the writer @tylerkingkade's hard drive."

The DeSantis campaign noted, "According to the media, the chant isn't the problem. You are the problem, because you noticed it and objected."

"'We're coming for your children' is a threat, and you do not get to pretend otherwise when people treat it as such," wrote Mark Hemingway of RealClearInvestigations.

The Heritage Foundation tweeted, "It just confirms conservatives have been spot on about how perverse the #Pride movement is for a very long time."

— (@)

Conservative commentator Ian Miles Cheong wrote, "Oh, so it’s okay then? They chant about how they’re 'coming for your children' and promote the sexualization of kids and have been doing so for years so that apparently (according to NBC News) makes it normal and acceptable because America as a society has become tolerant and apathetic to degeneracy. Welcome to the last days of empire."

Brittany Hughes, managing editor of Media Research Center TV, quipped, "We've always been coming for your children, why are you surprised?'"

Nationally syndicated radio host and co-founder of Blaze Media Glenn Beck noted that regardless of the activists' intentions, it's not a good look, using the analogy of conservatives taking to the streets and saying, "Hey, we're here, and we really are Nazis," as a means of regaining control of slurs used against them.

Except "nobody would do that as a joke; nobody would do that to taunt the media because that’s horrible — we are not Nazis," said Beck. "So why would they say 'we’re coming for your children' when half the country thinks you are coming for our children? That’s the worst strategy of all time."

Liberals turn on their own after Chuck Todd points out 70% of Americans don't want Biden to run again

NBC News' Chuck Todd has been pilloried by Democrats online for daring to confront viewers with the reality of President Joe Biden's unpopularity.

Todd, the host of "Meet the Press," detailed the findings of a recent NBC News survey of 1,000 adults, conducted April 14-18.

The survey found that 54% of respondents disapprove of the job Biden is doing as president, up from 50% in January.

When asked to rank their feelings of Biden, 38% of respondents indicated that they had a "very negative" impression and another 10% said they had a "somewhat negative" impression. Only 17% of respondents said they had a "very positive" feelings about the Democratic president.

“NBC POLL, among Democrats:

☝️ "53% of 2020 Biden voters say he shouldn’t run"

☝️ "64% of Democrats who voted for Sanders or Warren in the 2020 primaries think he shouldn’t run"

☝️ "76% of voters under 35 think he shouldn't run"”
— RNC Research (@RNC Research) 1682257962

Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research told NBC News, "President Biden’s numbers are not where they need to be at this stage."

Todd zeroed in on how 70% of respondents, including 51% of Democrats, said that Biden — the oldest president ever to take office — should not run for re-election in 2024.

By way of comparison, 60% of prospective voters, including roughly 33% of Republicans, said that former President Donald Trump should not run again for office.

Roughly half of those who don't want Biden to run again suggested age was a "major" factor behind their reasoning.

In addition to his routine gaffes, missteps, and tumbles, Biden has explicitly invited scrutiny over his waning vitality.

Biden told MSNBC's "The Sunday Show" in October, "I could drop dead tomorrow."

"In terms of my energy level, in terms of how much I am able to do, I think people should look and say, 'Is he still have the same passion for what he's doing?' And if they think I do and I can do it, then that's fine," he said. "If they don't, they should vote against me."

The new NBC News poll indicated that many voters might do just that.

When asked who they would vote for if Biden ultimately ran for re-election — an announcement expected later this week — 21% of respondents suggested they would "definitely vote for Biden," 20% said they might vote for Biden, and 47% of respondents indicated they would vote for the Republican candidate.

Todd told NBC's "Sunday Today" that Biden's flagging support and apparent undesirability among voters, including Democrats, is "not because of his policies, it’s simply because of questions about his physical ability to do it and his current age."

The "Meet the Press" host noted that "the thing that is most striking in our poll is how much Republicans are rallying around Donald Trump. ... You have 70% of Republican primary voters tell us, basically, that these charges against Donald Trump mean that it’s more important to rally around Donald Trump rather than giving them a choice that says, you know, he was a good president but these could be distractions in defeating Joe Biden. Only one in four Republican primary voters believe that."

After Todd suggested that America wasn't keen on maintaining a gerontocracy helmed by one of two relatively unpopular candidates, leftist Twitter directed its collective anger his way.

The Wrap reported that various Biden supporters and other Democrats accused Todd of spreading ageism, Republican propaganda, and fake news.

One user tangled up in a thread questioning Todd's credibility wrote, "Chuck Todd should be fired! I do not believe this poll. I do believe his age might be an issue for some. I think he’s accomplished so much for this country."

For having reported on the survey results, one user called for Todd to be muzzled.

Howard Altman, a Twitter user who peddles foul screeds about Trump, wrote, "Screw you, Chuck Todd, and screw you Me-lennials. The people who vote, the people you deride as 'the establishment' I want Biden/Harris, and they will win."

“"There are only 6% of Americans that would like to see both Trump and Biden run." - @ChuckTodd on a new @NBCNews poll. “It looks like both parties are about to nominate two people that the country doesn’t want to have, and there are going to be unintended consequences to that.””
— TODAY (@TODAY) 1682252561

While immensely unpopular, recent polls suggest Biden remains the Democratic front-runner.

The latest Harvard-Harris poll has Biden up 27 points over Vice President Kamala Harris. Bernie Sanders is a distant third, neck-and-neck with Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Elizabeth Warren are even further behind.

'Before white people came to this land, there were no jails, no homelessness,' self-described 'Writer & Reporter' declares

Self-described "Writer & Reporter" Simon Moya-Smith, who indicates that he is "Oglala & Chicano," declared in a tweet that prior to the arrival of white people, homelessness was not a problem and there were not any laws against homosexuality and abortion.

"Before white people came to this land, there were no jails, no homelessness, no laws against homosexuality or abortion. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples emphasized health, housing, freedom to love who you love and the fact that we need Mother Earth. She doesn't need us," Moya-Smith wrote.

An account responded to the post by writing, "Yea they just scalped people and burned them alive."

"So, here's the myth re: scalping: white men scalped Natives after a massacre & took them as trophies back to Europe. White, balding men had little to nothing to scalp. But Natives presumed that’s how white men celebrated a victory. So Natives scalped them back to send a message," Moya-Smith tweeted in response.

He acknowledged that Native Americans also battled each other other.

"Natives fought each other, no argument. But the Lakota did not try to convert the Cherokee to Lakota. The Cherokee did not try to monopolize corn," he tweeted. "But you are right about one thing: we scalped the white man right back."

Moya-Smith has asserted that regardless of where someone lives on the continent of North America, they are residing "on stolen Native land."

He has objected to the description of the U.S. as "a land of immigrants," tweeting, "Wrong. Don't put a period there… The U.S. is a land of immigrants AND peoples who were brought here against their will and the Indigenous peoples who've been here since time immemorial. #BlackHistoryMonth"

DeSantis admin slams Andrea Mitchell for 'blatant lie' and subsequent 'non-apology,' vows to shun NBCUniversal interview requests

While interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris last week, Andrea Mitchell inaccurately claimed that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has said that kids should not be taught about slavery or its aftermath in schools — but on Wednesday's episode of MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports," Mitchell said that she had been "imprecise" when discussing the governor's stance regarding the teaching of slavery.

She said that DeSantis is not against schools teaching about slavery. But Mitchell said the governor "has opposed the teaching of an African-American studies curriculum" and the utilization of "some authors" as well as "source materials that historians" and "teachers say makes it all but impossible for students to understand the broader historic and political context behind slavery and its aftermath."

“@mitchellreports Saying one was "imprecise," when what they said was a blatant lie, is not an apology.

@MSNBC /@NBCNews should not be viewed as an objective media organization. Stop letting the corporate media be the gatekeepers of truth.
https://t.co/rGj7uc8kEm”
— Jeremy Redfern (@Jeremy Redfern) 1677090768

Minutes after Mitchell's comments aired, DeSantis press secretary Bryan Griffin noted on Twitter that the governor's administration will be declining media requests from NBCUniversal-related outlets until Mitchell apologizes for claiming that DeSantis opposed schools teaching about slavery.

"To all of the bookers and producers reaching out to our office from @NBCNews and @MSNBC for @GovRonDeSantis to join your shows, this will be the standard response from our office until @mitchellreports apologizes and your track record improves," Griffin tweeted.

He shared a screenshot of a message in which he declared: "I think we need to take a step back. There will be no consideration of anything related to NBC Universal or its affiliates until and at least Andrea Mitchell corrects the blatant lie she made about the governor '[Governor DeSantis] says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren'—this is false), and NBC and it's affiliates display a consistent track record of truthful reporting. Please feel free to pass this up and around the network."

Griffin described Mitchell's Wednesday remarks as "a typical non-apology response that doubles down on the original lie."

Liberals angrily lash out at NBC News for pulling coverage from reporter over comments against Elon Musk and Twitter

NBC News temporarily removed a reporter from coverage on Elon Musk and Twitter over comments he made and many on the left lashed out at the news network.

Ben Collins covered disinformation and extremism for NBC, but he was one of the more vocal critics of Musk's management of Twitter after he acquired the company. He falsely predicted that Musk's firing of numerous employees would cause the entire website to crash.

NBC News did not elaborate on what comments led to its decision, noting that it does not comment on personnel decisions. Collins had been cautioned several times about his inappropriate comments before he was removed from the coverage.

While many on the right praised the move, those on the left saw it as a dark development that would erode the foundations of democracy.

"This is an absolutely outrageous course of action by @NBCNews to take in response to a an unprecedented attack on journalistic freedom," responded activist Judd Legum.

"Just so we're clear," replied another critic, "Ben Collins ... is one of the best, most indispensable reporters you have and suspending him is a bulls**t, cowardly move."

"Disgusting, @NBCNews. Stand by your reporter, spineless cowards. Ben Collins is a complete professional," said another detractor.

Others said the move would edge the nation closer to fascism.

"News media bending the knee to Musk and the bad faith, right-wing hate machine. Same as usual. Throwing their own reporters like Ben Collins under the bus. The road to fascism has always been paved with the complicity of corporations and the wealthy," tweeted attorney and writer Wajahat Ali.

"Why is corporate media bowing to the will of bigots and fascists?" asked entrepreneur Exavier Pope.

Collins has been previously criticized by conservatives for his incendiary comments. In November, he opined that many supporters of former President Donald Trump didn't show up to vote in the midterm elections because they had moved on to choosing violence. In January, he deleted a tweet that described a gun rights rally as a "white nationalist rally" after receiving angry backlash.

Here's a video of Ben Collins reporting on Musk:

NBC News tried covertly revising article that originally contradicted White House claim that Biden admin had a choice between WNBA's Griner and Marine Paul Whelan

NBC News issued a report contradicting the Biden administration's official narrative concerning the government's prisoner swap with Russia. Apparently hoping no one would take notice, the news organization quickly changed its original report without signaling it had done so.

While ostensibly intended to buttress the Biden administration's claims about its inability to bring home former Marine Paul Whelan, NBC News' stealth edit has prompted some to wonder what actually went on behind the scenes.

Only after being met with criticism online and a request for comment from TheBlaze did the news organization offer a retroactive correction hours later.

What are the details?

In its Dec. 8 prisoner swap with Russia, the Biden administration ultimately exchanged Viktor Bout, who conspired to kill Americans, for lesbian basketballer Brittney Griner.

The White House suggested that the Biden administration never had a choice to bring home Whelan from Russia — that "the choice became to either bring Brittany home or no one."

However, NBC News, citing a senior U.S. official, first reported that the "Kremlin gave the White House the choice of either Griner or Whelan — or none."

Rikki Ratliff-Fellman, director of programming at Blaze Media, noted a significant discrepancy between NBC News' original report and the article as it now exists online.

Without issuing an editorial note, NBC News made a stealthy change to the article, such that it now reads, "The Kremlin ultimately gave the White House the choice of either Griner or no one after different options were proposed."

Ratliff-Fellman highlighted the changes in a Tweet, posing the question, "Why the cover-up?"

“It appears @NBCNews made a MAJOR change to their Griner story WITHOUT an editorial note. It changes the context of the prisoner trade story and takes heat off of White House. Why the cover-up?”
— Reality Czar Rikki (@Reality Czar Rikki) 1670529082

This alteration to the article changes the entire narrative.

It also happens to buttress the tale told by President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, and other members of the administration and mainstream media.

Biden said, "This was not a choice of which American to bring home. ... Sadly, for totally illegitimate reasons, Russia is treating Paul's case differently than Brittney's."

“Joe Biden:

"This was not a choice of which American to bring home."”
— TheBlaze (@TheBlaze) 1670516074

Blinken said, "This was not a choice of which American to bring home. The choice was one or none."

“.@SecBlinken: "This was not a choice of which American to bring home. The choice was one or none." https://t.co/zY0wl6Fe2e”
— The Hill (@The Hill) 1670524260

Jean-Pierre recycled the line, saying, "The choice was bring Brittney home or no one. The president will never stop working to secure Paul Whelan's release."

Perhaps providing a rationale behind what NBC News originally reported was a binary decision, Jean-Pierre said that Griner is "an important role model; an inspiration to millions of Americans particularly the LGBTQI+ Americans and women of color."

“Jean-Pierre:

"The choice was bring Brittney home or no one. The president will never stop working to secure Paul Whelan's release."”
— TheBlaze (@TheBlaze) 1670529390

An entire paragraph concerning Whelan's notification in prison about the "outcome of the negotiations" was also was initially added without editorial note to the NBC News article in addition to the stealth edit.

TheBlaze reached out to NBC News with regards to its changes, asking why it originally failed to highlight the change with an editorial note, whether someone at the White House asked for the change, whether its original source had recanted or stood by its initial claim, and whether its continue to stand by its source.

While NBC News failed to respond to TheBlaze at the time of this writing, it did however issue a correction at 4:09 p.m. on Thursday claiming that "an earlier version of this article misstated the choice the Biden administration was given over hostages. It was to swap for Griner or no one, not a choice between Griner or Whelan."

Notwithstanding

Despite the stealth edit and the subsequent correction, the NBC News article still references remarks made by Whelan's lawyer Vladimir Zherebenkov.

Zherebenkov indicated that the deal involved a choice and implied that it was between the former Marine and the basketballer.

The lawyer said the exchange was a "one to one" and that "choosing Griner appeared 'more humane' because she is a woman and an Olympic champion, while Whelan was in the military and it is 'easier for him to be in custody.'

Although happy about Griner's release, Whelan told CNN, “I am greatly disappointed that more has not been done to secure my release, especially as the four year anniversary of my arrest is coming up.”

Whelan suggested that he was "led to believe that things were moving in the right direction, and that the governments were negotiating and that something would happen fairly soon."

Whelan is a former Marine who served in Iraq. He has been detained in Russia since December 2018 and was convicted by a Moscow court of espionage in 2020.

Griner, a basketballer who refused to stand for the American national anthem during home openers in 2020, was arrested in February on smuggling charges after traveling to Russia with cannabis oil in her luggage.

David Whelan, the American hostage's brother, told reporters, "It is so important to me that it is clear that we do not begrudge Ms. Griner her freedom. ... As I have often remarked, Brittney's and Paul's cases were never really intertwined. It has always been a strong possibility that one might be freed without the other."

Legendary actress Angela Lansbury dies at 96

Iconic actress Angela Lansbury, a legend both on screen and on stage, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 96, mere days before she would have marked her 97th birthday.

"The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday," Lansbury's family said in a statement. "A private family ceremony will be held at a date to be determined."

She is survived by three children, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her brother Edgar Lansbury, according to the family's statement.

Lansbury's lengthy career spanned decades and covered television, movies, and Broadway.

She played the spunky murder-solving mystery writer Jessica Fletcher in the long-running television series "Murder, She Wrote," which included a dozen seasons that ran from 1984 to 1996 — following the TV series, there were also several "Murder, She Wrote" television movies.

"What appealed to me about Jessica Fletcher," Lansbury said in 1985, ''is that I could do what I do best and have little chance to play - a sincere, down-to-earth woman. Mostly, I've played very spectacular b******. Jessica has extreme sincerity, compassion, extraordinary intuition. I'm not like her. My imagination runs riot. I'm not a pragmatist. Jessica is.''

Lansbury voiced the character of Mrs. Potts in Disney's 1991 animated classic "Beauty and the Beast."

She was nominated for supporting actress Oscars for her roles in the 1944 film "Gaslight," the 1945 film "The Picture of Dorian Gray," and the 1962 film "The Manchurian Candidate."

The actress won five Tony Awards.

Lansbury, who was born in London in 1925, was made a dame in 2014. "It is a very proud day for me to be recognised by the country of my birth, and to meet the Queen under these circumstances is a rare and lovely occasion," the actress reportedly said. The queen just recently passed away in September 2022.

Lansbury told the Associated Press in 2008 that she did not want to act in roles as "old, decrepit women," noting, "I want women my age to be represented the way they are, which is vital, productive members of society."

"I'm astonished at the amount of stuff I managed to pack into the years that I have been in the business," she said, according to the outlet.

Poll: Plurality of Hispanic voters support Republican governors sending illegal immigrants to liberal states and cities

A recent Morning Consult / Politico national tracking poll indicated that a significant percentage of ethnically-Hispanic American voters think Republican governors' relocation of illegal aliens to Democrat-controlled cities is appropriate. This may prove to be another sign that a significant voting bloc, which CNN senior political analyst John Avlon suggested has been "taken for granted," is growing increasingly alienated by Democrat policies.

One of the questions posed in the poll, published on Tuesday, was: "Would you consider Republican governors sending migrants to liberal U.S. states and cities to be [appropriate / inappropriate / don't know / no opinion]?"

41% of Hispanic respondents said it was appropriate and 35% answered it was inappropriate. An additional 25% noted they were either unsure or didn't have an opinion.

The six-point rate of change between Hispanics in favor and those against was more pronounced than in the broadest category of registered voters, where 42% were in favor and 41% were opposed.

Pollsters asked the question again, but framed it in moral terms. 33% of Hispanics deemed it moral, whereas 39% stated it was immoral.

Republican Governors Ron DeSantis of Florida, Greg Abbott of Texas and Doug Ducey of Arizona have bused and flown thousands of illegal aliens to sanctuary cities and Democratic locales, including Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, and Martha's Vineyard.

Concerning the initiative, DeSantis' communications director Taryn Fenske told Fox News Digital that "States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as 'sanctuary states' and support for the Biden Administration's open border policies."

Abbott likewise has endeavored to confront liberal states and cities with the fallout of the policies for which they have advocated. "The Biden-Harris Administration continues ignoring and denying the historic crisis at our southern border, which has endangered and overwhelmed Texas communities for almost two years," he said on September 15.

He said of his decision to send illegals to the sanctuary city of Chicago, "To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities ... as an additional drop-off location."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection have encountered over 2,150,639 illegals at the southern border so far this year, which have flooded into U.S. border regions, placing a strain on resources and depressing wages.

Hispanic voters and Democrat immigration policies

Recent trends have hinted at attitudes in the Hispanic community that might diminish the surprise that a plurality of Hispanics would agree that the relocation of illegals was appropriate.

A survey commissioned by Texas Latino Conservatives and released on August 11, 2022, revealed that 61% of Hispanics were bothered by the current direction of the Democrat Party. 28% of those not yet Republicans shared this same bother.

57% of those surveyed suggested they favored tougher border security measures "to stop illegal migrants from crossing." 27% said they favored allowing more illegals into the U.S. to seek asylum.

Although reportedly winning 65% of the Hispanic vote in 2020, Biden's approval rating amongst the demographic now sits at 51%.

Alienation and shift

In 2020, there was significant shift of Hispanic voters towards the Republican Party as well as a 30% increase in Hispanic voter participation (i.e., from 2016).

In the last presidential election, former President Donald Trump won 46% of the Hispanic vote in Florida and 41% in Texas. Nationally, he won 32% of the Hispanic vote, a four-point increase over his take in 2016.

CNN reported earlier this year that there are 16 counties in Texas where the super-majority of the electorate is Hispanic. In the county with the highest percentage of Hispanics, Biden won by 5 points. In 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was up by 60 points. That's a 55-point slide.

It is not just a matter of Democrats performing worse with Hispanics. Republicans are faring better.

Republican Congresswoman Mayra Flores (Texas) flipped a historically Democrat-held and heavily Hispanic region in June. Upon winning by eight points, she stated, "For over 100 years, we have been taken for granted ... I will show you what real representation looks like."

Cassy Garcia, who formerly served as U.S. Senator Ted Cruz's Deputy State Director, is presently running for Congress. She recently told Fox News Digital that "Democrats are running scared right now."

Garcia noted she had spoken to Democrats who've told her that they are abandoning the Democrat Party and voting Republican because it shares their values.

It's not just the votes of former supporters the Democrats may lose out on. 52% of Hispanic voters identified as independents in 2021.

This summer, pundit Van Jones highlighted the shift and the potential: "Democrats don't see this coming, we overreact to the cultural moves, under-react to the economic appeal and you're seeing a pay-off for MAGA."

It is worth noting that the Hispanic voting bloc is hardly ideologically or ethnically uniform.

According to a recent Axios-Ipsos poll, 58.2% of Cubans think it is more important to secure U.S. borders and help citizens than to "help immigrants escape poverty ... in their home countries. By way of contrast, only 18.5% of Central American voters prioritize the former, while 73.4% of them prioritize the latter.

Another 50 illegal immigrants arrive near DC home of Kamala Harris; Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sends 3 more buses of migrants to NYC

On Saturday morning, another bus carrying illegal immigrants arrived near the Washington, D.C., residence of Vice President Kamala Harris. This is in addition to the two buses of migrants that were dropped off outside the Naval Observatory in the nation's capital on Thursday.

NBC News reporter Gary Grumbach shared a video of the illegal immigrants arriving near the D.C. home of Harris around 7 a.m. on Saturday. Grumbach wrote on Twitter, "We're told they’re from Venezuela and Nicaragua. Men, women, children – even newborns."

On Thursday morning, two busloads containing more than 100 migrants were sent from Texas to the vice president's home. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent the migrants to Harris because she recently promised that the U.S. southern border is "secure."

Illegal immigrant encounters at the border exceeded 2 million this fiscal year – the most ever.

Abbott said on Thursday, "The Biden-Harris Administration continues ignoring and denying the historic crisis at our southern border, which has endangered and overwhelmed Texas communities for almost two years."

He then tore into Harris over the border crisis, "Our supposed Border Czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, has yet to even visit the border to see firsthand the impact of the open border policies she has helped implement, even going so far as to claim the border is ‘secure.’ Texas will continue sending migrants to sanctuary cities like Washington, D.C. until President Biden and Border Czar Harris step up and do their jobs to secure the border."

Abbott also sent three buses of illegal immigrants to New York City on Saturday morning, according to Fox News. Abbott sent migrants to the Big Apple because it is a self-declared sanctuary city.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said the relocation of illegal immigrants has caused the city's social services to near their "breaking point."

"In the last few months, we have experienced an unprecedented surge of asylum seekers arriving from the southern border," Adams said on Wednesday. "In this new and unforeseen reality, where we expect thousands more to arrive every week going forward, the city’s system is nearing its breaking point. As a result, the city’s prior practices, which never contemplated the bussing of thousands of people into New York City, must be reassessed."

Abbott said 10,000 migrants have been transported to sanctuary cities since the spring, adding that the move has provided "much-needed relief to Texas' overwhelmed border communities."

On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew 50 migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Harris told Vice News that the relocation of migrants are "political stunts."

Harris said of Abbott and DeSantis, "I think it is the height of irresponsibility… frankly, a dereliction of duty, when you are an elected leader, to play those kinds of games with human life."
