Video shows New Jersey bus driver brutally beating rider who allegedly spat in his face; both were arrested

A transit bus driver in New Jersey was arrested for brutally beating a passenger who allegedly spat in his face.

The severe beating was caught on several videos by other passengers who recorded it on their cellphones.

'If someone spit on me, I'm automatically hitting them.'

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said that the fight erupted on the bus near Court Street and Broad Street on Friday at about 1 p.m.

Videos showed the driver, later identified as Toron Walker, telling other passengers to stand back before he punches a man repeatedly and even gets him into a chokehold.

When police were alerted to the altercation and responded to the scene, Walker was still struggling with the man.

Fragé said that Walker was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault. The passenger was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Police are reviewing the videos of the incident in their investigation.

WABC-TV spoke to some transit bus drivers about the arrest of the bus driver, and some said they were opposed to it.

"It's a bus driver trying to help out the community, and you did wrong to a bus driver that's trying to help us out. He's doing his job and he wants to feel safe," said bus rider Zoey Clarke.

"If someone spit on me, I'm automatically hitting them," said Newark resident Donna Defeo.

A statement from the New Jersey Transit confirmed that the driver was assaulted prior to the beating.

We don't condone any form of assault aboard any of our vehicles or within our facilities. We can confirm that our driver was assaulted prior to the altercation. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that assaulting a transit employee is a serious offense and can result in a fine, jail time and/or a ban from riding the transit system.

Here's a news video from WABC with much of the cellphone footage that captured the brutal beating.

Gangbanger, female posed with dismembered body of landlord with hatchet in his chest in photos cops reportedly found

A New Jersey woman and an alleged Bloods gangbanger posed with the dismembered body of a landlord with a hatchet in his chest in grisly photos investigators unexpectedly uncovered following a whirlwind path of recent crimes.

The macabre saga began last month when 25-year-old Gabriella Caroleo reportedly got into an argument with her ex-boyfriend in Manchester Township, New Jersey, which is located in the central part of the state near the coast. On June 27, Caroleo reportedly called 911 to notify authorities that her ex-boyfriend — 35-year-old Maxwell Johnston — shot her. Caroleo was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and later died.

Police brought cadaver dogs to the property and made a gruesome discovery.

Caroleo also texted her mother moments before the deadly shooting to ask her to call the police, saying she was in fear for her life, according to assistant Ocean County prosecutor Eleni Demestihas.

On July 5, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Manchester Township Police Department, and United States Marshals Service finally located Johnston at a residence in Toms River.

Johnston — an alleged Bloods gang member who had a gun during the seven-hour standoff — allegedly was holed up in the house with four other individuals.

Marshals negotiators persuaded Danielle Bolstad, 42, Jared Krysiak, 34, and Jarred Palumbo, 36, to exit the home. Hours later, 29-year-old Elizabeth Mascarelli reportedly exited the residence and was transported to Community Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained during the standoff.

"The residence was subsequently cleared using a drone, and Johnston was located in a bedroom, deceased, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head," according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors accused Mascarelli of housing Johnston — a known fugitive — for four days despite her knowing about Caroleo's fatal shooting.

Mascarelli was arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive from justice.

The Toms River home where the standoff occurred belonged to 56-year-old Kerry Rollason, but he was not in the house. He allegedly was a landlord who rented it out.

Detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant on the home and found a defaced .22 caliber handgun, according to the prosecutor's office. Evidence that a murder had been committed at the house allegedly was found as well.

On July 11, disturbing photos were discovered during a forensic examination of Mascarelli's cell phone.

"Photographs were observed which depicted Mascarelli and Johnston in close proximity to an individual being clearly deceased and amputated at the top of his legs, with a hatchet in his chest, the hatchet being held by Mascarelli," Demestihas said, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The assistant prosecutor said the photos were taken in the basement of Rollason's home.

Demestihas added, "Additional images were recovered depicting Mascarelli, Johnston and Danielle Bolstad in a wooded area, with Johnston holding a large ax, and an active burn barrel behind him. An item with red staining, possibly blood, was also seen protruding from the barrel."

Police determined the location of the wooded area was in nearby Jackson and conducted a search of the property on July 11.

Investigators found numerous gloves, some similar to the ones Mascarelli and Johnston were wearing in the photos, according to Demestihas. Tests revealed the gloves had human blood soaked into them.

Demestihas noted that a knife was found in the barrel, and there were two pick axes and a shovel nearby.

The following day, police brought cadaver dogs to the property and made a gruesome discovery.

Approximately 100 yards from the burn barrel, police reportedly found numerous body parts in black bags and blankets. The assistant prosecutor said authorities also found several live 9mm rounds of ammunition, the hatchet Mascarelli was seen holding in the pictures, a saw, clothing, and multiple latex gloves.

The property owner told investigators he saw Johnston and Mascarelli there July 3 after Bolstad dropped them off in the area of the burn barrel, Demestihas said during Wednesday detention hearings for Mascarelli and Bolstad.

Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels ordered Mascarelli and Bolstad be held without bail at the Ocean County Jail.

Investigators determined Rollason was murdered July 3.

Surveillance footage from nearby homes showed Bolstad's car leaving July 3 around 12:38 a.m. and not returning until 4:31 a.m., Demestihas stated.

Palumbo reportedly told investigators he was in Rollason's basement with Krysiak during the early morning hours of July 3 when he suddenly heard three gunshots. He claimed that moments later, Johnston instructed them to leave the house immediately.

"Upon returning a short time later, Johnston began cutting the limbs off the decedent with the help of Mascarelli and Krysiak," Palumbo told the detectives, according to Demestihas.

Palumbo admitted to helping move Rollason's body parts, the assistant prosecutor stated.

Roughly three hours later, Palumbo allegedly was asked to bring up several bags from the basement and load them in Bolstad's car.

Palumbo was charged with hindering Johnston's apprehension and failing to dispose of human remains in a lawful manner.

Rollason's cause of death was determined to be from multiple gunshot wounds in addition to blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was a homicide.

Krysiak faces a detention hearing Friday.

Citing an autopsy conducted by the Ocean County Medical Examiner, the Toms River Patch reported that Rollason had been shot three times and bullets pierced his heart and liver. The landlord also suffered a significant skull fracture caused by blunt-force trauma. He was dismembered into eight pieces, according to authorities.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer declared, "The crimes committed against Mr. Rollason are unsettling and disturbing. I am thankful for the law enforcement professionals that worked diligently to uncover these depraved and soulless crimes."

New Jersey female teacher, 38, accused of sexually abusing 13-year-old girl, school received bomb threats

A New Jersey middle school teacher has been accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl. After the allegations came to light, bomb threats were made against the female teacher and the school.

Marlboro Memorial Middle School teacher Jenna Sciabica, 38, was charged with one count of harassment-offensive touching. The charge carries a penalty of up to 30 days in jail.

The teacher was hit with the charge after the Marlboro Police Department conducted a month-long investigation, which included a review of surveillance camera footage, interviews, and written statements, according to NewJersey.com. The Marlboro Police Department consulted the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office before charging the teacher.

Sciabica's attorney, Mitchell Ansell, called the allegations "outrageous and defamatory."

"Jenna intends to plead not guilty and vigorously defend herself in court," Ansell said in a statement. "We are confident that once a judge hears all the facts in this case, Jenna will be completely exonerated and her good name, character, and reputation be restored."

Ansell added, "There was absolutely nothing illegal, improper or immoral about the interaction between Jenna and this student on March 13, 2024. Quite frankly, it’s outrageous and defamatory for Jenna to have been accused of committing a crime.”

Ansell noted that Sciabica "has been dedicated to the education of students for over 15 years" and "has never had any prior allegations and/or accusations filed against her and has an exemplary record."

Sciabica has reportedly known the alleged victim for three years.

"Jenna has a very close relationship with this student’s family, even going as far as having been invited into their home on numerous occasions," Ansell stated.

The statement read, "Sadly, as a result of these false and baseless accusations, Jenna and her family have been the victim of bomb and death threats."

School officials allegedly informed the police that the teacher inappropriately touched the student over the clothes. Following the accusations, Sciabica was immediately placed on leave by the school district.

"As soon as we became aware of the situation, action was taken, and the staff member in question was immediately removed from her position,” Superintendent Michael Ballone said in a letter to parents sent on Wednesday.

However, the mother of the alleged victim is furious about the response to the accusations.

On Tuesday night, the mother of the purported victim blasted the school board over the alleged teacher sex scandal and levied sexual assault accusations against Sciabica.

The mother said the female teacher "groped" her 13-year-old daughter in a hallway. She called Sciabica a "predator" who "sexually abused" her daughter.

During the Marlboro Board of Education meeting, the mother blamed the school for "failing to prevent the atrocity that happened down that hallway" to her daughter.

The mother said in a statement, "While we are happy that action is finally being taken, we are disappointed at the charge. It seems like they rushed to make it seem like they’re doing something. We are hopeful they will do the right thing for our family and community."

On Thursday, someone made a bomb threat against the school. The school was closed and police launched a search but did not find any explosives.

There was another bomb threat at the school on Friday. Authorities did not find a bomb.

Police said there was a good possibility of a connection between the sexual assault accusations and the bomb threats.

New Jersey youth wrestling coach – NCAA's first openly gay wrestler – sentenced to prison for distributing child porn

A New Jersey youth wrestling coach has been sentenced to serve over seven years in federal prison for reportedly disturbing child pornography.

Alec Donovan, of Brick, New Jersey, was sentenced on Thursday to serve 87 months in federal prison after being found guilty of distributing child porn. In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi also sentenced Donovan to 30 years of supervised release.

Donovan, 26, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography.

Court documents stated:

From January 2021 through March 2021, Donovan used an internet-based application to exchange multiple images and videos of child sexual abuse, including depictions involving pre-pubescent children. Donovan also used the web-based messaging application to solicit and engage in conversations with minors, including requesting nude photographs from the minors and sending nude photographs to them.

Donovan grabbed headlines in 2015 for becoming the "NCAA's first openly gay wrestler," according to the Associated Press.

The outlet added, "A 2017 story in the NCAA-published Champion magazine detailed Donovan's struggles with depression in high school and his efforts to counsel other gay wrestlers."

Donovan had been a youth wrestling coach and referee in New Jersey before being arrested.

The Asbury Park Press reported, "Donovan was also the NJSIAA seventh-place finisher at 145 pounds in 2014, a three-time state qualifier, the NJSIAA Region VI champion in 2015 and a four-time NJSIAA District 23 champion during his scholastic career from 2011 to 2015."

The investigation into the purported pedophile was launched by the Newark Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, under the direction of FBI Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy in Newark.

New Jersey man bludgeoned mother to death after she tried to stop him from cutting tattoo off his leg: Police

A New Jersey man bludgeoned his mother to death after she tried to stop him from cutting a tattoo off his leg, according to police.

James Doran, 30, was charged with the first-degree murder of his mother — whom he lived with. Doran also faces more than a dozen misdemeanor and summary charges, including recklessly endangering another person, evading arrest and DUI, reckless driving, and resisting arrest in Pennsylvania.

Police reportedly found 65-year-old Lillian Doran "obviously dead" on the bedroom floor of her home in Gloucester Township around 10:21 a.m. on Saturday. Police said she had suffered blunt force trauma to her head.

The night before her murder, the mother allegedly got into an argument with her son about him attempting to cut off a tattoo from his leg.

"Witnesses stated that the previous evening, the victim and James Doran had argued about James Doran cutting a tattoo off his leg and walking around the house with a baseball bat," the complaint read. "A witness reported hearing banging sounds and a garage door opening at about 4 a.m."

The mother's vehicle was missing from the home in Blackwood, New Jersey.

Troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police allegedly clocked James Doran driving the missing car at 112 mph around 5 p.m. on Saturday — more than 200 miles from the crime scene.

Doran purportedly stopped the car when the police cruiser attempted to pull him over. However, Doran allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and fled into the woods.

After a short pursuit, Doran was arrested and taken into custody.

"The operator was covered in blood and was acting erratically. The operator refused to identify himself, and the odor of alcoholic beverage was coming from his breath," police said in a report.

Police said there were three alcoholic beverages in plain sight of his mother's vehicle. There was also a baseball bat in the trunk.

Investigators did not reveal whether a weapon was used in the alleged murder and didn't provide a motive for the alleged slaying.

According to court documents, a judge denied bail for Doran because "proof is evident and presumption great that defendant will not comply while on bail."

Doran is currently being detained at the Bedford County Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania as he awaits extradition to New Jersey.

Watch: Shocking, bleacher-clearing brawl between parents erupts in the middle of high school wrestling match

Video shows a crazy scene unfolding during a high school wrestling match in New Jersey during which parents engaged in a wild brawl as student-athletes were competing.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, wrestlers were competing in a wrestling championship meet at Phillipsburg High School.

Tempers flared during the meet between Phillipsburg’s youth team against High Point's team for the youth championship when an argument amongst parents erupted. Viral video shows that while high school wrestlers were competing, parents in the bleachers engaged in a brouhaha.

NJ.com reported, "According to the videos, the fight starts between two men, with shouting and a shove. Then, the bleachers clear and people start pulling, pushing, and shoving each other. One person can be seen getting kicked in the head."

Video shows other parents getting involved in the physical confrontation by shoving and attempting to quell the fisticuffs.

An anonymous parent told Lehigh Valley Live that at least one child was "struck during the fight."

Police escorted the parents of the wrestlers out of the gymnasium following the melee.

It is not clear whether any individuals were injured or charged in the fight.

The brawl reportedly caused the league to cancel the rest of the matches.

The league has participants who are middle schoolers from grades 5 through 8.

The New Jersey Grade School league's individual wrestling championships are scheduled to happen on Sunday at Hunterdon Central High School, and officials are not certain how the interruption would affect the championships.

The Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer said his office was "not too involved" in the incident.

Lopatcong Township Police Chief Jason Garcia didn’t return messages to Lehigh Valley Live on whether his office is investigating the fight.

Phillipsburg's youth wrestling coach also did not respond to a request for comment on the violent situation.
