Did the conclave pick a LIBERAL to be the new pope?

The conclave in the Vatican has elected a new pope, Cardinal Robert Prevost of Chicago, who has taken the name Pope Leo XIV.

And while many are thrilled that the Conclave elected an American pope, others are concerned that his political ideology might lean too far to the left, as Prevost hasn’t been shy about blasting Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric.

He made this clear when he shared an American Magazine article on X titled, “Pope Francis’ letter, JD Vance’s ‘ordo amoris’ and what the Gospel asks of all of us on immigration.”

The article centers around a letter Pope Francis wrote to the bishops of the United States regarding immigration and mass deportation, which was in response to the Trump administration’s focus on the immigration crisis.

The letter from Pope Francis also criticizes JD Vance’s interpretation of “ordo amoris,” which is a theological concept the vice president used in explaining his view on immigration.

“It seems like they could have picked a super conservative, and they went, ‘We’ll pick one that wants to be political again,’” Sara Gonzales of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered” comments.

“They could have picked a complete looney liberal. I mean, I’m not surprised that he’s different than a conservative on immigration,” BlazeTV contributor Matthew Marsden counters, though he believes that “a lot of that has to do with wanting to fill the pews in Catholic churches in the United States.”

“The majority of the people, if you go to Catholic churches here, are Hispanic. So part of it is that,” Marsden continues, adding, “It’s nice that it’s an American pope though. I’m going to take that win.”

Will the conclave elect a RADICAL pope to follow Francis?

After Pope Francis’ passing, the conclave to elect the Catholic Church’s next pope is now underway. This begs the question, will the next pope be “conservative” and orthodox — or will he follow in Francis’ footsteps and embrace leftist and globalist ideas?

LifeSiteNews co-founder and CEO John-Henry Westen has an idea, and he notes that we will be finding out very soon.

Westen explains that the “word on the street” is that a new pope should be expected by day three of the conclave.

“I don’t know anything about this,” Glenn Beck of “The Glenn Beck Program” admits, “but it doesn’t look like there’s any real conservative that has a chance of getting in.”

“That’s an interesting question, because in the Church, of course, we don’t talk much about conservative, it’s more about orthodoxy, those who actually follow the Catholic faith and then those who don’t. And on those who do, there are a number,” Westen tells Glenn.

However, many of the cardinals who will be voting in the conclave were appointed by Pope Francis — who also reportedly increased the numbers of cardinals from 120 to 133.

“The rule book, called 'Universi Dominici Gregis' was put out by John Paul II and amended by Benedict,” Westen explains, “It said it should be a limit of 120. The thing is, if you check with a canonist though, the pope has the right to change that.”

“The other thing is this, there’s now 133 cardinals who are voting, 108 were named by Francis. That’s 81% more,” Westen continues. “So if you want to talk about a stacked deck, sure.”

“The only difficulty with that kind of very political calculus is this: Can you find enough guys who sign up to that kind of extreme left-wing, non-Catholic type of deal, and the answer is no. So you’ve got a bunch of cardinals that he named that aren’t going to be following in his footsteps,” he says.

“So what you have is a bunch of guys that really nobody knows, and they’re going to take what’s coming as it comes and have to deal with the aftereffects of the last 12 years, which has been a disaster for the Church from almost anyone’s perspective,” he adds.

Cardinals have chosen a new pope; white smoke emerges from Sistine Chapel

White smoke emerged from the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican on Thursday, indicating that the conclave of cardinals had chosen a new pope.

Pope Francis passed away on April 21, leading to the gathering of cardinals at the Vatican in Rome. After debating the candidates, multiple votes of the 133 cardinals are made until one candidate garners 89 votes.

The new pope will appear from the basilica to the large crowd.

“Habemus papam!” will be pronounced from the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica, a phrase that is Latin for, “We have a pope!”

The new pope will appear from the basilica before the large crowd assembled at the Vatican to lead them in prayer. He will also choose a name to be called as the leader of the Catholic Church.

Scenes from the Vatican show the crowds jubilantly celebrating. Some are waving flags, while others yell, “Viva il papa!” and "Hallelujah!"

Francis died at the age of 88 and was the first pope from Latin America, but many criticized him for what they saw as a left-leaning focus in his pronouncements. The cardinals convened after nine days of mourning following the funeral for Francis.

Ten of the cardinals eligible to be pope were from the United States.

Some expected a longer period of voting, but the cardinals appeared to quickly choose a successor to Francis.
