DirectTV to axe conservative One America News Network from its lineup

DirecTV plans to drop conservative One America News Network from its lineup, Bloomberg reported.

At the time of this reporting, no other major U.S. cable providers carry OAN.

What are the details?

The nationwide satellite television broadcaster recently notified Herring Networks, OAN's owner, that it would no longer carry the company's channels.

In a statement obtained by Bloomberg, the company said, “We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires.”

The contract with Herring Networks is set to expire in April.

At the time of this reporting, Herring Networks has yet to issue a public statement on the matter.

DirecTV began offering OAN to its customers in 2017 after Herring Networks forced the company's hand by suing the cable provider to carry its channels.

Reuters reported that the move could "financially cripple" OAN.

"The announcement by DirecTV, which is 70% owned by AT&T, comes three months after a Reuters investigation revealed that OAN’s founder testified that AT&T inspired him to create the network," the report noted, citing an October report. "Court testimony also showed that OAN receives nearly all of its revenue from DirecTV."

The news agency added that during a 2020 court proceeding, an OAN lawyer said, "If Herring Networks, for instance, was to lose or not be renewed on DirecTV, the company would go out of business tomorrow.”

What else is there to know about this?

In response to the news, former President Donald Trump said that DirecTV targeted OAN over its politics and suggested a boycott against AT&T.

"Maybe what we should do is not use AT&T," he said.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, NAACP President Derrick Johnson said that the news was a “victory for us and the future of democracy.”

“At a time when we are seeing our rights infringed upon, OAN only seeks to create further division," he said. "We must continually choose truth over lies and common sense over hysteria.”

OAN is currently litigating what is reported to be a billion-dollar defamation suit, which was filed by Dominion Voting Systems and argued that the network was complicit in deliberately spreading defamatory information about the company's role in the 2020 presidential election.

OAN cuts away from Lin Wood after his speech goes wildly off the rails, endorses QAnon, and predicts death of Trump's opponents

Former Trump attorney Lin Wood delivered remarks during a weekend conference regarding the QAnon conspiracy and death to Trump opponents, prompting One America News to cut away from the coverage.

What are the details?

During his appearance at the weekend's Health and Freedom Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Wood made what some perceived as a QAnon hand gesture.

According to Mediaite, "After speaking about his four divorces (and how that's less than King David) Wood revealed how God forgave him and how, when the time comes, that He's ready and you've been learning, God would save all those in attendance too."

"Then he paused briefly and told the crowd 'now catch this next move,' before saying, 'He's going to rebirth you into the spirit world and create exactly the person that He intended you to be,' while drawing the letter 'Q' with his finger," the outlet added.

The gesture was not to be mistaken, according to Mediaite, as Wood went on to explain "There's your Q."

His remarks drew a standing ovation, and prompted him to continue.

"That is Q. What does that Q mean? Don't you ever give up hope on this country," he said.

From Newsweek:

Wood spoke about people worshiping Satan and said "millions" of children had disappeared around the world.

The QAnon conspiracy theory posits that there is an international cabal of Satanists who abduct children and its members include prominent businessmen and politicians.

The former Trump attorney also insisted that former President Donald Trump is still in power in the United States, and won the 2020 presidential election.

"He won the presidency and he is the person that we the people selected," Wood said, according to Newsweek. "Donald J. Trump is still the president of the United States of America. He is your president."

Around this time, OAN cut away from coverage of his remarks, Mediaite reported.

Elsewhere, Wood said that Trump critics should be placed in front of a firing squad and executed for "committing acts against humanity."

He said, "Every lie will be revealed! They are killing our children, send them to jail. Put them in front of the firing squad. They are committing acts against humanity. The penalty for an act against humanity is death. Take them out!"

The event, which "drew thousands of attendees from around the nation," according to the outlet, also featured speakers including Gen. Michael Flynn.

PatriotTakes tweeted video featuring a portion of Wood's remarks, which you can watch below.

Trump supporters embrace Newsmax and OANN while confidence in Fox News as the 'most trusted source of news' plummets: poll

Fox News received more bad news on Sunday after a poll found that a large percentage of Trump supporters no longer embrace the cable news behemoth as their most trusted source of news.

A new USA Today/Suffolk Poll discovered that only 34% of Trump voters named Fox News as their "most trusted source of news." This is a massive 24% drop from the poll in October 2016, when 58% of former President Donald Trump supporters declared Fox News as their most trusted news source.

Trump voters are jumping the Fox News ship and embracing relative newcomers Newsmax and One American News Network. The poll of 1,000 Trump voters taken by phone between Feb. 15-19 found that 17% of Trump voters see Newsmax as their most trusted source of news, and 9% trust OANN.

"At the time of our October 2016 poll, OANN and Newsmax were barely 2 years old, so they were not offered as options," David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said. "However, we do not believe that in 2016 they would have been trusted the most by a statistically significant portion of respondents."

Newsmax and OANN are snatching Trump's most loyal backers. The survey found that 92% of Newsmax viewers believe Joe Biden was "illegitimately elected" tune into Newsmax, and 90% of OANN watchers question the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.

If they had to pick between the Republican Party and Donald Trump, those who trust Fox News skew 51%-37% in favor of the former president. But with those committed to Newsmax, 72% chose Trump over the GOP, and the percentage jumps up to 80% in Trump's corner for viewers who watch OANN.

In a Hill-HarrisX poll from earlier this month, 64% of Republicans said they would quit the GOP to follow Trump if he started a third party.

Paleologos said the switch from longtime cable news powerhouse Fox News to these burgeoning alternatives is a "seismic shift in the landscape of trusted news sources for conservatives." He added that despite the falling numbers, Fox News is still the "most trusted news network/media source among previously identified Trump voters."

This continues a worrying trend for Fox News, which has seen its TV ratings drop ever since the 2020 presidential election. Fox News lost the primetime ratings war to CNN in the week after election night.

In the two weeks after the 2020 election, Fox News saw a drop of 32% in viewership in viewership among the coveted 25-54 age demographic during primetime.

During the week of the riots at the U.S. Capitol building in early January, perennial ratings champion Fox News fell to third place behind CNN and MSNBC.
