Virginia Republican wants unborn babies to count as passengers for carpooling

A Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates wants the state to consider pregnant women as two people, for the purposes of using carpool lanes.

Delegate Nicholas J. Freitas introduced House Bill 1894, "High-occupancy vehicle lanes; pregnant women" which provides that "pregnant woman shall be considered two people for the purposes of determining occupancy in HOV and HOT lanes."

High-occupancy vehicle lanes and high-occupancy toll lanes would be available for use by pregnant women if they have "proof of pregnancy" or have certified their pregnancy with the Department of Transportation if they wish to travel in a lane monitored by a photo-enforcement system.

The bill would require the state to create a process in which a woman can "certify that she is pregnant" in order to link the information to a toll collection device. Virginians use a system called E-ZPass for electronic transponders.

The bill, which includes the term "pregnant person" once, requires pregnant women to provide proof of pregnancy to a police officer if they are pulled over for the possible infraction of driving in an HOV or HOT lane despite being ineligible to do so.

In terms of data collection, the bill states that the data shall not be open to the public, nor shall it be sold or used for sales/marketing/solicitation.

Any information collected would be "purged one year after certification of pregnancy is made."

Upon a woman notifying the Department of Transportation that she is no longer pregnant, the state would be required to delete the data related to the mother within 24 hours.

Similar legislation has been introduced in other states as well.

Texas Bill 521 was tabled in November 2022 and sought to make high-occupancy lanes free for pregnant women to drive in while alone.

Democrats in Virginia control the state Senate, however, which means it is unlikely that the legislation would be signed into law.

According to NBC News, abortion activists see such proposals as attempts to advance "personhood laws that seek to protect the rights of the unborn through unconventional avenues."

Report: Safe smoking kits include free crack pipes — and here's the proof

A new report from The Washington Free Beacon has alleged that at least some of the safe smoking kits that the Biden administration's $30 million safe smoking program may bolster do, in fact, include free crack pipes.

What's a brief history here?

In February remarks, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki insisted that such kits — provided to drug users for a safer experience — did not include free smoking paraphernalia, and said that pipes "were never a part of the kit" and that contrary reports were "inaccurate."

"A safe smoking kit may contain alcohol swabs, lip balm, [and] other materials to promote hygiene and reduce the transmission of diseases ... like HIV and hepatitis," she said at the time.

What are the details?

In a Thursday morning report, the Free Beacon noted that crack pipes are available in safe smoking kits all up and down the East Coast in cities such as Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and more.

The outlet's Patrick Hauf obtained the kits through visits to "harm reduction organizations."

"While the contents of safe-smoking kits vary from one organization to another — and while those from some organizations may not contain crack pipes — all of the organizations we visited made crack pipes as well as paraphernalia for the use of heroin, cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine readily available without requiring or offering rehabilitation services, suggesting that pipes are included in many if not most of the kits distributed across the country," Hauf wrote.

Hauf also pointed out that all of the centers that the Free Beacon's reporters visited "are run by health-focused nonprofits and government agencies," which Hauf said are the groups eligible to receive funding from the Biden administration's grant program.

"None of the organizations responded to inquiries about whether they applied for government grants," he added. "It is not clear which organizations will receive those grants, nor has the administration said how it will ensure the kits will not contain crack pipes. The Department of Health and Human Services, which will oversee the Biden grant program, declined to provide a list of groups that have applied for funding, citing 'confidentiality.'"

The administration, however, is poised to announce the recipients on May 15.

A deeper look

In Baltimore, a non-profit organization that provides harm reduction services apparently provides crack pipes, and an employee told the outlet that identification is not required to receive a kit.

The kits, Hauf reported, contain a variety of items including "glass crack pipes as well as Chore Boy copper mesh, a cleaning product used to hold the crack rock at the end of the pipe."

"Most importantly, the organization provides all drug paraphernalia recipients an 'Authorized Harm Reduction Program Participant Card' that serves as a get-out-of-jail-free card to show to law enforcement, because the paraphernalia is otherwise illegal in the state of Maryland," Hauf added.

Hauf's report added that the organization receives both local and state funding, and has reportedly received at least $200,000 from billionaire George Soros' Open Society Foundations. The group, Hauf reported, "received $200,000 in government grants in 2019."

In Boston, the story was much the same.

"One pipe per person, once a day," an employee reportedly told the outlet.

In New York City's Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center, an employee offered up a "long menu of drug paraphernalia" that is available to users free of charge.

"Included on the menu was a 'booty bump' kit for rectal ingestion of narcotics, which is recommended by many harm reduction centers as a safer way to use meth," Hauf explained and added that the Alliance for Positive Change, which oversees the harm reduction center, received at least $20 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since 2004.

A harm reduction center in Washington, D.C., also reportedly hands out a variety of pipes and mouthpieces without even asking for identification.

The center, known as HIPS — or Honoring Individual Power and Strength — is said to have received $3.1 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which Hauf points out oversees the Biden administration's harm reduction program.

You can see photos of some of the kits below.

AOC demands 'consequences' for big oil 'profiteering'; industry claps back with an economics lesson

Progressive Democrats are accusing oil companies of "profiteering" and are demanding they face "consequences" for high prices at the pump as the price of crude oil fell below $100 on Monday and continued to decline Tuesday. But the industry has fired back, saying these Democrats are "grandstanding" instead of proposing solutions to the gas crisis.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday responded to MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle, who asked "what's going on" with gas prices averaging $4.32 per gallon on Monday while the price of crude oil dropped 8% and fell below $100 per barrel. "Profiteering. And there should be consequences for it," the congresswoman replied.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) 1647286241

Fellow "squad" member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) echoed her comments, writing, "Big oil CEOs need to be held accountable for profiteering, this can’t stand."

And another congressman, Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.), accused oil companies of "price-gouging" and said, "Congress must pass legislation to stop it."

Their comments drew a harsh rebuke from the American Petroleum Institute, which said, "The American people are looking for solutions, not finger pointing."

"The price at the pump that Americans are currently paying is a function of increased demand and lagging supply combined with the geopolitical turmoil resulting from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine," API Senior Vice President of Policy, Economics, and Regulatory Affairs Frank Macchiarola explained in a statement to TheBlaze.

"Lawmakers should focus on policies that increase US supply to help mitigate the situation rather than political grandstanding that does nothing but discourage investment at a time when it’s needed the most,” Macchiarola said.

Left-wing accusations of price gouging came after the West Texas Intermediate crude, the U.S. benchmark for crude oil, traded at $94.15 per barrel on Monday, coming down from the high of $130 reached a little more than a week ago. Crude oil prices remained below $100 a barrel on Tuesday as well.

Industry analysts said the previous spike in oil prices was fear-based, driven by concerns over how Russia's energy exports would be impacted by import bans from the U.S. and Canada, CNBC reported. The decline in prices is related to hopes that the commodity market will be resilient, as well as expectations that renewed COVID-19 lockdowns in China will prevent millions of people there from traveling and reduce demand for gasoline.

What that means is that in the short-term, gas prices could begin to decline, but a change in prices may come slowly. Crude oil makes up about 56% of the price of regular gasoline, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Falling crude oil prices will "take a lot of the pressure off pump prices," but this change will be a "gradual decline," American Automobile Association's Andrew Gross told Newsweek Tuesday.

Claims that oil companies haven't responded to the market are inaccurate. Patrick De Haan, an analyst for GasBuddy, observed Monday that there has in been a "slow decline" in gas prices, noting that the national average price of gas has decreased four cents per gallon since Thursday.

Seeing a slow decline. Stations lost their shirts on the way up, so the drop will be slow- but has already started. National average down 4c/gal since Thursday.https://twitter.com/sruhle/status/1503397084837429253 …
— Patrick De Haan ⛽️📊 (@Patrick De Haan ⛽️📊) 1647279493

Some experts have cautioned that the drop in prices may be temporary. Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis at the Oil Price Information Analysis, told CNN that if crude oil stays around $100 per barrel, fuel prices could drop by about 20 cents per gallon. But he warned that prices could spike again in the spring and summer as people begin traveling more, increasing demand for gasoline. The World Travel & Tourism Council predicts a 6.2% increase over pre-pandemic travel levels within the U.S. this year, which the organization says will add nearly $2 trillion to U.S. GDP, CNN reported.

Kloza said he expects all of that additional travel to bring gas prices up to about $4.50 per gallon. But that figure will be a result of increased demand for a product that's restricted by supply, not greedy corporations taking advantage of consumers.

Gas prices have reached record highs since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on Feb. 24, prompting international sanctions against Russia and disrupting oil markets. However, the cost to fill up a vehicle was increasing well before the invasion began, and this is not the first time Democrats have blamed oil companies.

In November, when the average price of gas was $3.22 — at the time the highest level since 2014 — President Joe Biden sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission tying rising prices to alleged "anti-consumer behavior" from oil companies. The industry blasted the accusation, arguing rising prices were the result of complicated factors including the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and increased demand for gas. The American Petroleum Institute called Biden's letter a "distraction" and said that "ill-advised government decisions" were "exacerbating this challenging decision."

Joy Behar apparently missed her chair and fell rather dramatically during the opening of Thursday's episode of "The View."

In video footage from the live show, the 79-year-old co-host was seen falling forward, then on her side, before fellow co-hosts rushed over to help her back up.

"Come on just stop, just stand," laughed Whoopi Goldberg.

Like 'I WILL END COVID'? Twitter mocks Biden's promise to stop pipeline for Russia if it invades Ukraine

President Joe Biden bolstered international confidence on Monday with another of his inspiring speeches, this time promising that "if Germany, uh, if Russia invades" Ukraine, "then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We, we, we will put an end to it."

Asked by a reporter how exactly he would do that "since the project and control of the project is within Germany's control," our commander in chief responded, "I promise you we'll be able to do it," following it up with his signature creepy smile.

Republican leaders commit to investigating GoFundMe because the company took down the Freedom Convoy's fundraiser

Prominent GOP officials throughout the country are committed to investigating actions taken by GoFundMe in dissolving the fundraiser for Canadian truckers in the Freedom Convoy and refusing to distribute funds raised on their behalf.

The widely popular fundraiser generated several million dollars for the anti-vaccine mandate protesters before GoFundMe shut it down and refused to pay out the donations.

Newsweek reported that “The fundraising effort had raised C$10 million — around $7.9 million — and C$1 million had already been distributed to the organizers of the so-called Freedom Convoy before GoFundMe took the decision to stop the fundraiser. GoFundMe initially announced on Friday it would refund contributions to anyone who applied and the remaining funds would be distributed to charities chosen by the Freedom Convoy organizers and verified by the crowdfunding site.”

However, after intense backlash, GoFundMe changed course and opted to refund all donations made to the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraiser.

To simplify the process for our users, we will be refunding all donations to the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraiser. This refund will happen automatically—you do not need to submit a request. Donors can expect to see refunds within 7-10 business days.
— GoFundMe (@GoFundMe) 1644047784

GoFundMe shutdown the convoy’s saying that it no longer could be considered a peaceful protest.

“We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity,” GoFundMe wrote, “Following a review of relevant facts and multiple discussions with local law enforcement and city officials, this fundraiser is now in violation of our Terms of Service … and has been removed from the platform.”

The Ottawa Police advocated for all crowdfunding websites to prevent the Freedom Convoy from fundraising.

We want to thank @gofundme for listening to our concerns as a City and a police service. The decision to withhold funding for these unlawful demonstrations is an important step and we call on all crowdfunding sites to follow.
— Ottawa Police (@Ottawa Police) 1644020207

Saturday morning, Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he will work alongside Florida’s Attorney General to investigate GoFundMe and its deceptive practices. Governor DeSantis labeled the company’s tactics as “fraud.”

It is a fraud for @gofundme to commandeer $9M in donations sent to support truckers and give it to causes of their own choosing.

I will work with @AGAshleyMoody to investigate these deceptive practices — these donors should be given a refund.
— Ron DeSantis (@Ron DeSantis) 1644073468

The Attorneys General of several states including West Virginia, Louisiana, and Ohio matched Governor DeSantis’ righteous indignation and made clear that they intend to hold GoFundMe accountable for any potentially illegal acts they committed by terminating the Freedom Convoy’s fundraiser.

Patrick Morrisey, the Attorney General of West Virginia, told his constituents that if they were victimized to let his office know.

#GoFundMe now won’t honor #FreedomConvoy donations and will instead redirect to other charities?

In WV, organizations must not deceive donors and engage in deceptive advertising practices.

If you’ve been victimized by a deceptive act or practice, let us know!
— Patrick Morrisey (@Patrick Morrisey) 1644033328

Louisiana’s Attorney General Eric Schmitt said that GoFundMe’s actions were “totally unacceptable” and that he would be “investigating” the company's “deceptive practices.”

It’s totally unacceptable for @gofundme to siphon over $9M in donations sent to support #TruckersForFreedom2020 & funnel it to causes it supports.

I will be investigating these deceptive practices. Donors should be given a refund.#TruckersConvoy2022 #TruckersForFreedom
— Eric Schmitt (@Eric Schmitt) 1644080262

And, Dave Yost, the Attorney General of Ohio, said that while refunding every donation was the “right thing to do” he still wanted to hear from Ohioans who gave to the Freedom Convoy.

In the last few minutes, #GoFundMe tweeted that they will refund all donations to #FreedomConvoy automatically.

That’s the right thing to do, but it is not the end of the story. I still want to hear from you if you donated.

This needs to not happen again!
— Attorney General Dave Yost (@Attorney General Dave Yost) 1644071030

It’s worth noting that in the Sumner of 2020, GoFundMe amplified fundraising attempts for people involved in the CHAZ/CHOP movement in downtown Seattle, Washington.

GoFundMe found the Freedom Convoy to be a violent movement worthy of suppression, but it deemed a violent secessionist movement that was a hotbed for rape and murder a worthy cause.

In a community with no police, this farmer is feeding people & bringing them closer together.

Learn how you can support Marcus' mission within the CHOP: https://gfme.co/chop-farmer https://twitter.com/Quicktake/status/1273971946858913793 …

GoFundMe’s message is clear. They, like countless other Western corporations, will advance the causes of violent leftists while actively working to suppress peaceful, patriotic movements.

NHL Hall of Famer Bobby Orr endorses President Trump for re-election: 'The kind of teammate I want'

Hockey Hall of Fame legend Bobby Orr is supporting Donald Trump for president.

Orr, a former Bruins player and Florida resident, endorsed the president for re-election in a full-page newspaper advertisement published in Friday's edition of the New Hampshire Union Leader, Boston.com reported.

"Everyone has an opinion as our upcoming Presidential election approaches, and I am no different. When I look at America during these turbulent times, I keep trying to separate style from substance, fact from fiction," the advertisement said. "This much I know. Our current President has had to operate under extremely difficult conditions over these past several years. In addition, no leader anywhere signed up with the idea that dealing with a worldwide pandemic would be a part of their mandate. The attacks on our president have been unrelenting since the day he took office. Despite that, President Trump has delivered for all American people, regardless of race, gender, or station in life.

"Perhaps you do not like his tweets or how the President says things sometimes, and that is your right. But remember, this is not a personality contested; it's about policies and the people those policies assist," Orr wrote.

"I have never done anything like this before, but I am greatly concerned for the country in which I have raised my family — a country I have grown to love deeply," he continued. "I want my grandchildren to know the America I know, a place of Patriotism and opportunity."

"Some of you may still be undecided at this point. Your vote for President Trump would help keep America moving forward in the years ahead.

"So please, join Peggy and me in supporting President Donald J. Trump for re-election in this most important election."

The New Hampshire Union Leader endorsed Joe Biden for president on Sunday, endorsing a Democrat for the first time in 100 years.

A recent poll conducted by UMass Lowell found that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads Trump by 10 points in the granite state. According to other polls aggregated by RealClearPolitics, Biden has been leading Trump in the granite state since June.

in the 2016 presidential election, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton carried New Hampshire by fewer than 3,000 votes.

Video evidence appears to show first Kenosha shooting victim charging shooter, using N-word while taunting militia members

As new details continue to emerge concerning a deadly confrontation between protesters and counter-protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, new video appears to show that the first victim charged at the shooter, who appeared to be attempting to retreat behind a car, and threw an object at him.

It also appears that the first shooting victim of the bloody night may have been the same person who was caught on video before his shooting, taunting a member of an armed militia with the N-word and daring him to "Shoot me."

Earlier in the evening, shortly before the shooting, Townhall writer Julio Rosas caught video, which he posted to Twitter, of some protesters involved in an increasingly agitated discussion with members of a "militia" that was apparently present in an attempt to protect Kenosha businesses from damage caused by rioting and/or looting.

In the clip, one bald white, bearded individual who was seen wearing a maroon shirt, white sneakers, and carrying a white plastic bag begins to taunt one of the militia members (some of whom were black), saying, "shoot me, n*****!"

And earlier in the video, with a white plastic bag:

Newly released video of the seconds before the shooting shows an individual charging toward another individual with a gun and throwing what appears to be a white plastic bag at him.

— Anonymous Operations (@Anonymous Operations)1598451907.0

Notably, this was the first shooting of the night, which caused the crowd to chase after the shooter and attempt to subdue him, whereupon two more individuals were shot.

Although the video quality is admittedly poor, it appears to show the shooter point the gun up in the air and fire a warning shot, which does not deter his would-be pursuer at all. The pursuer and the gunman both disappear around the corner of a car, whereupon several more gunshots can be heard, presumably one of which hit the pursuer in the head.

Other video, which is extremely graphic and can be viewed at this link, shows the victim after the shooting, and his clothing:

Image source: livesmattershow Twitter video screen shot

The victim, as you can see, is wearing the same capri-length style of jeans, also with white sneakers and crew socks, as well as the same color belt. Close ups from the video show that the maroon object around his head appears to be a maroon shirt that has been repurposed as a head wrap.

Additionally, a Twitter user noticed that the shirt worn by the bald male in the Rosas video certainly appears to be the same shirt that was wrapped around the victim's head.

— Patrick Courrielche (@Patrick Courrielche)1598426650.0

Additionally, the white plastic bag thrown by the victim seconds before he is shot appears to be similar if not identical to the white bag thrown by the victim at the shooter right before he is shot. Additionally, although the maroon shirt covers a substantial portion of the victim's face, he appears to have reddish-brown facial hair that matches the individual from the Rosas video.

Police have not yet released the names or identities of the victims. They have charged a 17-year-old Illinois resident with first degree murder in connection with the shooting.
