JPMorgan CEO rejects Rep. Rashida Tlaib's far-left demand: 'That would be the road to hell for America'

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Minn.) demanded Wednesday that the CEOs of America's largest banks commit to stop financing fossil fuel companies.

But she received more than she bargained for when she called on Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., to answer her woke demand.

What happened?

During a House Financial Services Committee hearing, Tlaib demanded the bank CEOs make a pledge against fossil fuels.

The CEOs represented the seven largest banks in the U.S.: JPMorgan Chase & Co, U.S. Bancorp, PNC Financial Services, Citigroup, Bank of America, Truist Financial Corporation, and Wells Fargo & Co.

"You have all committed, as you all know, to transition the emissions from lending and investment activities to align with pathways to net-zero in 2050," she said. "Do you know what the International Energy Agency has said is required to meet our global 2050 net-sterile targets of limiting global temperature rise to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit or 1.5 degrees Celsius? So no new fossil fuel production starting today. So that’s like zero."

"Please answer with a simple yes or no: Does your bank have a policy against funding new oil and gas products?" Tlaib asked.

The first executive she called on, Dimon, made it clear he was not engaging Tlaib's far-left games.

"Absolutely not — and that would be the road to hell for America," he told Tlaib.

Tlaib then got personal, suggesting that Americans who benefit from President Joe Biden's controversial policies should cease doing business with Dimon's bank.

"Yeah, that’s fine," she snarked. "That’s why, sir, you know what, everybody that got relief from student loan [who] has a bank account with your bank should probably take out their account and close their account. The fact that you’re not even there to help relieve many of the folks that are in debt, extreme debt because of student loan debt, and you’re out there criticizing it."

Tlaib was referring to Dimon's earlier criticism of Biden's student loan forgiveness plan.

What did the other CEOs say?

The CEOs of Citigroup, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo each said they will continue working with fossil fuel companies and investing in clean energy.

Tlaib then returned to Dimon, claiming without basis that he does not care about common Americans.

"You obviously don't care about working-class people and front-line communities," she claimed, "that are facing huge amounts of high rates of asthma, respiratory issues, and so much more, cancer rates are so high among my communities that I represent."

The fallacy of Tlaib's question is obvious.

The commitment to clean energy requires working with oil and gas companies because they are the only energy businesses with the resources required to invest heavily in "clean energy." And those companies are already making such investments because, after all, they want to make money, and developing sources of clean energy will lead to massive financial benefits in the future.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib urges Biden to cancel student loan debt but gets called out for glaring issues with her argument: 'Your debts are your responsibility'

The Federal Reserve estimates that Americans owe more than $1.7 trillion in student loans. A group of progressive Democrats – including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) – took to the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday to demand President Joe Biden cancel student loan debt. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) also urged President Biden to forgive student loans for nearly 48 million people. However, many online commentators pointed out some glaring issues for her demanding U.S. taxpayer money be used to cancel student loans, including her own.

"And yes, I worked full time, Monday through Friday, and took weekend classes to get my law degree," said the 45-year-old Tlaib – who makes $174,000 per year as a United States Representative. "And still, close to $200,000 in debt. And I still owe over $70,000 and most of it was interest. Most of it was our own government making money and profit off of me."

Tlaib called on President Biden to use an executive order to wipe out student loan debt.

The video clip of Tlaib calling for student loans to be canceled caught the eye of many who noticed some issues with the Democratic Representative's argument for loan forgiveness.

Former Congresswoman and physician Nan Hayworth: "That's not the taxpayers' fault, lady. You bought it, you own it. Your debts are YOUR responsibility."

Attorney Harmeet K. Dhillon: "You’re making nearly $200k now, well above the average salary for a lawyer in DC, though you would not likely make that in the private sector, having passed the bar three years after graduating and apparently never having worked as an attorney. Pay your debt, what is the issue?"

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton: "Government politician and communist complains about working 'full time,' wants to taxpayers to pay off her debts."

Attorney A.G. Hamilton: "1) forgiving student debt would exacerbate the problem. It shouldn't cost that much to get a law degree, but it does specifically because gov't subsidizes it & schools aren't responsible for recovery. 2) She makes 175K a year+... Why would we cancel debt for someone like her?"

National Review contributor Pradheep J. Shanker: "Say a single woman who makes almost $200k a year is commissioning about her student loans #FirstWorldProblems."

Podcast host Michael Knowles: "I really do not mean this as merely a partisan snipe or personal attack. But, having listened to this woman speak, do you think her education is worth $200K+? Does the intellectual and spiritual formation she received seem worth even a tenth of that?"

Conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza: "Translation: I’m a bovine idiot. I’m terrible at law, as I make contracts I don’t intend to keep. I’m also inept at math, since I can’t figure out how to calculate interest over time. Happily, for an irresponsible moron, I’ve landed myself in the perfect place: CONGRESS!"

National Review writer Charles C. W. Cooke: "There’s almost certainly nothing that anyone cares less about than this."

Daily Caller correspondent Michael Ginsberg: "Within a year of graduating from law school, Rashida Tlaib was elected to the Michigan legislature."

The Daily Wire writer Ian Haworth: "That’s 40% of your minimum annual income. Pay it off already."

The Western Journal writer Randy DeSoto: "Why in the world should the American taxpayer be in the hook for the education choices people make? More govt money drives up tuition costs as it does in pretty much any arena of life."

Actor Matthew Marsden: "Your choice. No one else should have to pay for it."

Rashida Tlaib caught on camera: Just wearing a mask because 'I've got a Republican tracker here'

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) was caught on camera saying that she's only masking up because she was being tailed by what she referred to as a "Republican tracker," The Washington Free Beacon reports.

What are the details?

Tlaib made the bizarre-sounding admission while talking with an attendee at a Detroit community event with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge.

After the event, Tlaib was talking with a group of people when a maskless attendee approached her and mistakenly thought that Tlaib was scolding him for being "the one unmasked guy" in the surrounding area.

"Oh, no, oh, not you!" she laughingly said in the video.

She then pulled down her mask and smiled at the attendee and went on to insist, "No, no, no; I'm just wearing it because I've got a Republican tracker here."

This isn't the first time Tlaib has been in the spotlight for masking snafus.

In August, she was captured dancing while maskless during an extremely crowded, indoor wedding reception in Dearborn, Michigan, despite skyrocketing COVID-19 case counts triggered by the highly contagious Delta variant.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Tlaib's office did not return a request for comment on the video.

Democratic lawmakers want the Federal Reserve to focus on climate change, as well as 'racial and economic justice'

Several Democratic lawmakers are calling for President Joe Biden to appoint a new Federal Reserve chair instead of keeping Jerome Powell in the role.

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts envision a central bank that is focused on issues such as climate change, and "social and economic justice."

"As news of the possible reappointment of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell circulates, we urge President Biden to re-imagine a Federal Reserve focused on eliminating climate risk and advancing racial and economic justice," the legislators said in a joint statement to POLITICO. "We urge the Biden Administration to use this opportunity to appoint a new Federal Reserve Chair."

"Under his leadership, the Federal Reserve has taken very little action to mitigate the risk climate change poses to our financial system," the trio of lawmakers said. Congressmen Chuy García of Illinois and Mondaire Jones of New York also signed on to the statement, according to the outlet.

"At a time when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is warning of the potential catastrophic and irreversible damage inflicted by a changing climate, we need a leader at the helm that will take bold and decisive action to eliminate climate risk," the lawmakers declared.

Powell was nominated to the Federal Reserve board by Democratic President Barack Obama in 2012, according to Politico. He was nominated by President Donald Trump in 2017 to serve as Fed chair, confirmed by the Senate in January 2018, and in February 2018 Powell was sworn in, according to Ballotpedia.

Powell's term concludes in February and the president is expected to make his choice as soon as next month, according to Politico.

"To move forward with a whole of government approach that eliminates climate risk while making our financial system safer, we need a Chair who is committed to these objectives," the lawmakers said.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib collected up to $50,000 as a landlord, despite co-sponsoring 'cancel rent' bill

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) collected thousands of dollars as a landlord while co-sponsoring bills that would cancel rent payments.

Tlaib's 2020 financial disclosure report filed Friday reveals that the progressive lawmaker took in between $15,001 and $50,000 from a property in Detroit. Tlaib received the same income range on the rental property in 2019, according to financial records.

Fox News reported the Michigan Democrat's property is estimated to be worth between $100,001 and $250,000, according to the disclosure.

In December, Tlaib wrote on Twitter how we need to protect Americans from "landlords and bill collectors."

"Always tons of agreement for tools of war and destroying families abroad, but never this much enthusiasm for protecting American families at home from landlords and bill collectors in the midst of a pandemic," she tweeted.

Tlaib, who makes $174,000 a year as a representative, co-sponsored a bill authored by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D–Minn.) in April 2020 to "institute a nationwide cancellation of rents and home mortgage payments through the duration of the coronavirus pandemic."

Tlaib also co-sponsored the latest version of the bill, which was introduced in March 2021 "to suspend obligations of residential renters and mortgagors to make payments during the COVID-19 emergency, and for other purposes."

"It's really important that we understand that moratoriums are good, but they're going to end and without payment and debt cancelation we are kicking the crisis down the road," Tlaib said at a news conference announcing the bill in March, according to Reason.

Fox News asked Tlaib if she offered her tenants the opportunity to cancel their rent, but the outlet reported that her office did not return a request for comment.

Tlaib isn't the only progressive Democrat to demand that rent be canceled while receiving income from being a landlord. Financial disclosures revealed this week that Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) made thousands of dollars from a rental property in Boston.

In December, Pressley wrote on Twitter, "We must cancel rent, extend eviction and foreclosure moratoriums, provide rental assistance, and offer legal representation for those at risk of eviction. This is a public health emergency."

Also in December, Pressley tweeted that canceling rent was "literally a matter of life and death."

Pressley also co-sponsored Omar's Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act.
