'Reagan' actor Robert Davi on Hollywood left: 'They want DEI except for thought'

Robert Davi didn’t just bring Leonid Brezhnev to life in “Reagan,” this year’s eagerly awaited biopic of the 40th U.S. president. The veteran actor brought volumes of research to both the role and the set.

Davi, beloved for work in classics like “Die Hard,” “The Goonies,” and “Licence to Kill,” spent time in Russia speaking to citizens about the late Soviet Union leader.

In a business that routinely punishes conservative stars, the film's producers bucked groupthink, casting not only Davi but talented actors such as Nick Searcy, Pat Boone, and Kevin Sorbo.

He dug deep into Brezhnev’s complicated legacy, learning of his bond with President Richard Nixon and affinity for fast cars.

Command performance

For Davi, “Reagan” deserved nothing less than his full commitment. It explains why he has endured as an actor whose career stretches back to 1977’s “Contract on Cherry Street” with Frank Sinatra.

“Reagan,” now available via digital on demand, finds Davi and co-stars fleshing out “The Gipper’s” remarkable life and political career. Some viewers, familiar with iconic Reagan moments like his “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” speech, may not know how Reagan battled communism behind the scenes in Hollywood.

For Davi, the biggest takeaway may be how little has changed in America since the Reagan Revolution.

Back to the future

He said pop culture and the press loathed Reagan, much as they do President Donald Trump. In fact, the moment Trump descended the Trump Tower escalator to announce his candidacy, the actor connected the mogul’s populist message to that of vintage Reagan.

Davi also notes that both Reagan and Trump were badly underestimated by their opponents — until it was too late.

The actor wishes the film could have included even more of Reagan’s life and legacy. Notably, he would have loved to see Nancy Reagan (Penelope Ann Miller in the film) reacting to new President George H.W. Bush’s vow to build a “kinder, gentler nation” — a not-so-subtle dig at his former boss of eight years.

An 'eye-opening' biopic

Still, the movie packs plenty into the running time, including how Reagan reached across the aisle to get legislation done. His scenes with Congressmen Tip O’Neill (Dan Lauria) epitomize that attitude. It also explains the dawn of the Reagan Democrat.

That, and so much more featured in the film, will prove “eye-opening” to younger viewers, Davi predicted.

“The new generation needs to watch that to understand the difference between the extreme left and the conservative movement,” he said.

Davi’s “Reagan” contributions didn’t end with his Brezhnev performance. The versatile star also sings two tracks on the film: “This Town” and “Nancy (with the Laughing Face).” He studied music extensively earlier in his career and, in recent years, has brought the Sinatra catalog to vibrant life via “Davi Sings Sinatra.”

He also directed the charming 2007 film “The Dukes” along with the 2022 biopic “My Son Hunter,” which cast Laurence Fox as the embattled first son. The film stands in sharp contrast to how Hollywood either ignored or lionized Hunter Biden throughout his various scandals.

Davi’s conservative bona fides are no Hollywood secret. He continues to work, although often in independent features like this year’s “Bardejov.” That film recalled the true-life heroism of Rafuel Lowy, who saved hundreds of Jewish lives during the Holocaust.

Hollywood rebels

It’s no accident that Davi is not the only openly right-of-center actor in the “Reagan” cast. In a business that routinely punishes conservative stars, the film's producers bucked groupthink, casting not only Davi but talented actors such as Nick Searcy, Pat Boone, and Kevin Sorbo.

Sorbo has said his unofficial Hollywood blacklisting began roughly a decade ago when his agent left him over his conservative beliefs. Oscar nominee James Woods hasn’t had a sizeable film role since his supporting turn in 2014’s “Jamesy Boy.”

Davi confirms the new blacklist is “worse than it was during the McCarthy era,” adding that communists did infiltrate the Hollywood community during the 1950s.

For his part, Davi won't be cowed. He contributes thoughtful op-eds to Breitbart News and keeps creating art on his terms. He promises a new album to drop in 2025 in addition to a European tour. He’s close to starting work on a new film called “The Ministry” about a group tied to vigilante justice.

The ultimate irony? Hollywood continues to make movies about the blacklist era while stars are penalized for their political beliefs in 2024, he said. George Clooney will bring his “Goodnight, and Good Luck” film, recalling journalist Edward R. Murrow’s scraps with Sen. Joseph McCarthy, to Broadway starting in March.

“They want DEI except for thought. … People wanna talk about the ‘fascists’ in the MAGA movement,” Davi said with a laugh. “The fascists in the liberal left will denigrate you, dispel you.”

Revealing Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative debates

When former President Ronald Reagan embraced the idea of a missile defense system, he called it the Strategic Defense Initiative. While it ended up being a great success, it was initially attacked by the Democrats, who nicknamed SDI “Star Wars.”

“They mocked him, they tried to humiliate him,” Mark Levin explains.

“We didn’t have that technology 40-some years ago, and so the reprobates who only think about now, now, now, they said it couldn’t be done,” Levin continues. “During the budget processes they were constantly trying to block it, defund it, or limit it.”

On at least one occasion, Ronald Reagan became so fed up that he shut down the government in response.

“When the time came to actually test it, because you have to test these systems in a number of ways before you can actually employ them, the Democrats tried to prevent that too,” Levin explains.

One of the most outspoken opponents of SDI was none other than our fearless leader, then Sen. Joe Biden.

“Now he turns to that system in Israel and he says, ‘Aren’t we fantastic, look what we’ve done,’” Levin mocks.

“None of it would have been done if Ronald Reagan hadn’t been president. None of it would have been done if the Democrats were in control. None of it would have been done if Joe Biden had been president. There’d be no missile defense system period,” he adds.

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna faces pushback after naming tax cuts as a cause of the US national debt

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California faced a raft of pushback on social media in response to his claim that tax cuts have caused America's enormous national debt. The lawmaker also listed war as a reason for the debt.

Khanna asserted that the four causes of the nation's debt are, "Reagan's tax cuts," "Bush's tax cuts," "Trump's tax cuts," as well as "Bush's overseas wars."

"We don't need a fiscal commission to study it. Everyone knows Johnson's fiscal commission will recommend cuts in Social Security & Medicare. Instead, we need to end the tax breaks for the ultra-rich and make a moonshot investment in American industry," he claimed.

The U.S. national debt has grown to a staggering sum of more than $33 trillion dollars.

GOP Rep. Victoria Spartz of Indiana rejected Khanna's assessment about the cause of the gargantuan debt.

"Rep. @RoKhanna is not correct: the national debt was caused by reckless spending, cronyism and spinelessness of politicians in Washington D.C. We must save promised programs for seniors and middle class from destruction by looming disastrous tax increase leading to socialism," Spartz declared in a tweet.

Others also pushed back against the congressman's comments.

"Or maybe the govt is too big?" Rob Schmitt wrote.

"You idiots in Congress spending more than you stole from us in taxes is how we ended up with eleventy gazillion dollars in debt and an increasingly worthless currency," Sean Davis tweeted.

"Our government consistently spends trillions of dollars it doesn't have and their excuse for $30T of debt is that they haven't stolen enough of our money," Michael Seifert posted.

"Tax cuts aren't government expenditures. My income isn't the government's money. Defense spending is not the predominant spending problem. The debt is from Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and other exorbitant social redistributionist spending programs. Full stop," Ben Shapiro wrote.

"So the average American's credit card debt isn't due to overspending, but failure of their employer to pay them more. Democrat logic," Jenna Ellis posted.

Levin: We must prepare for war against China

What destroyed the Roman Empire?

According to Mark Levin, it was “invasion of foreigners, severe economic troubles, division of the Empire, Empire stretched too thin, government corruption and political instability, loss of traditional values, weakening of the legions — the military.”

The Roman Empire lasted a thousand years, but Levin points out that we’re not even close to that milestone.

He says that every single thing that caused the Roman Empire to fall “is something we are confronting today.”

We’re in the middle of a Marxist revolution that Levin charges is “destroying us from within while the enemy gathers abroad.”

“There is an axis of powers against us right now,” which he says is headed by China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

“This is no joke,” he warns.

“We need to prepare for war against China. I don’t mean go to war. I don’t mean initiate a war — but they are preparing for war.”

But according to Levin, we’re not even close to ready.

“We are completely unprepared as a nation psychologically. We are completely unprepared economically and immigration-wise and [in] securing our border. Our military is not prepared in the sense that they’re pushing this woke ideology. Our military budgets do not reflect the threats that we are facing in the world around us.”

He believes the current administration is “dragging this country into war.”

“We the people,” Levin continues, “deserve a better leader than this and a better government than this; but this is what we put up with. It’s absolutely unbelievable.”

“That’s it. I’m done.”

Media indirectly admits the 'ageist' right was RIGHT about Biden being TOO OLD

In less than two years, the "most popular presidential candidate of all time" is too old to be the president of the United States?

According to the New York Times and several other left-wing media publications, Joe has aged himself out of favor for re-election in 2024. Remember when conservatives were called "ageist" during the 2020 election for asking if Joe was fit for office at his age? How about headlines in 2021 that said questioning Biden due to his age was an outdated stereotype?

Well, now that the media agrees that Biden is too old, and the Biden administration decided that age 66 is too old to obtain a commercial pilot's license, Stu Burguiere, host of "Stu Does America" on BlazeTV wonders if it is Biden's age that makes him a terrible President or if it is Biden himself that makes him a national embarrassment?

In this clip, Stu compares former President Ronald Reagan and former Vice President Joe Biden to see if age or mental acuity makes for the most appropriate measure.

Liberals celebrate the anniversary of the death of Ronald Reagan with vulgar insults

While many on the right used the anniversary of the death of Ronald Reagan to celebrate his achievements, many on the left used to it mock all Republicans with vulgar insults.

Reagan's two terms in the White House from 1981 to 1989 are considered wildly successful revivals of conservatism in the United States. He died on June 5, 2004, at the age of 93 after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease.

On Sunday, some liberals mocked and insulted Reagan's legacy with ghoulish glee.

"Just found out that OTD in 2004 Ronald Reagan dropped f***in dead. Happy birthday to me you old dead b****," read one popular tweet.

"Ronald Reagan was one of the worst Presidents in US History," claimed another critic. "#Reagan was an awful person & we celebrate June 5 since he died on this day in 2004."

"18 years ago today Ronald Reagan did his one good deed for the world," tweeted one user who identified as a socialist.

"Happy ronald reagan death day to all who celebrate," read another popular tweet.

"18 years ago today, Ronald Reagan did the best thing he ever did. He died." tweeted a user who identified as "genderqueer."

"Happy ronald reagan death day," read one tweet with more than 8.6k likes.

Liberals were similarly outraged on Wednesday when the Biden administration announced on Wednesday that first lady Jill Biden would be honoring Nancy Reagan with a U.S. Postal Service stamp. Some were especially incensed that it was announced on the first day of LGBTQ Pride Month.

"Pride did not start in celebration. It started in defiance against people just like the Reagans. They had the blood of thousands of queer people on their hands," tweeted one detractor.
