FDA’s newest recall proves Elon Musk right — and boosts the MAHA movement

The Food and Drug Administration's newest recall exemplifies why the status quo is on the chopping block in Donald Trump's presidency.

Last week, the FDA issued a recall for nearly 80,000 pounds of Kirkland Signature butter, which is sold at Costco. Government officials deemed the recall necessary — impacting 46,800 pounds of unsalted butter and 32,400 pounds of salted butter — because the packages could be missing what the government believes is an important allergen statement: "Contains milk."

The DOGE will cut through a bloated bureaucracy and government waste like a hot knife through 80,000 pounds of butter.

"Butter lists cream, but may be missing the Contains Milk statement," the FDA said in its advisory.

The FDA issued a Class II recall for the creamy goodness, which means government officials believe this is "a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

People are scratching their heads over the need for the recall — and outright mocking it — for one important reason: Everyone knows butter contains milk.

When you milk a cow, you receive essentially two products: milk and cream. Cream settles at the top of the milk and can be skimmed away and churned to make butter. Unless you milk your own cow or buy raw milk or "cream-line milk," you generally cannot see the cream because milk that is sold in stores has been pasteurized and homogenized.

Cream is a milk product. The primary difference between cream and the milk we drink is the fat content.

The most interesting aspect of this recall is the moment in American history in which it is happening.

First, Donald Trump's decisive victory included a mandate for the “Make America Healthy Again” agenda.

Trump is surrounding himself with people like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Calley Means, and Casey Means, who are serious about improving the health of all Americans beyond the pharmaceutical industry. So while grocery stores across the nation sell fake “butter” — industrial seed oils masquerading as butter — the FDA deems it important to recall tens of thousands of pounds of a real health food over a harmless labeling error.

The recall exposes the FDA's priorities — which appear antithetical to the MAHA movement.

Second, the recall is yet another example of government bureaucracy run amok, more evidence that Elon Musk is right about our need for a Department of Government Efficiency.

Is it really in the best interest of U.S. taxpayers and consumers to recall nearly 80,000 pounds of butter over a labeling error? Do Americans really need a government-mandated label telling them butter contains milk?

Evidently, nothing is wrong with the butter itself. No consumers are at risk of adverse health effects if they eat it. But it must be recalled, by the FDA's logic, because it doesn't contain a warning message the agency requires.

Fortunately, wasteful government intervention could become a relic of the past in Donald Trump's second administration. That's because he is on board with Elon Musk's vision for government efficiency, and he wants Musk to lead it with entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

If it comes to fruition, the DOGE would cut through a bloated bureaucracy and government waste like a hot knife through 80,000 pounds of butter — and that's something all Americans can be thankful for.

Police union demands Democratic California mayor resign amid federal probe, upcoming recall vote

The Oakland Police Officer's Association called for Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao (D) to resign immediately on Tuesday amid an ongoing federal investigation and an upcoming recall vote, Fox News Digital reported.

The union's president, Huy Nguyen, stated during a recent news conference that Thao's office had depleted resources from law enforcement and failed to address the city's ongoing crime crisis.

'The process drags out longer.'

"Today we are asking Mayor Sheng Thao to recall as mayor immediately for a lot of the failures in this city, going from crime, the budget crisis, the distraction of the FBI raid that prevents our ability to function as a city," Nguyen stated, according to KTVU. "Every day, our citizens feel the tragedies. That they cannot exit their own home or walk to the streets of Oakland, calling 911 and not getting the services they need."

According to Nguyen, because of understaffing issues and limited police resources, the department has been unable to respond to every emergency call or it runs the risk of longer response times.

Following the police union's demands, Thao released a video statement on social media attempting to defend her track record.

"It's really unfortunate that the OPOA is obviously playing politics," Thao stated. "Right now, during this very sensitive time, we need to come together. We see that what we are working on, in regards to the comprehensive approach for public safety, is working."

Thao, pulling Oakland Police Department data, contended that the crime rate for many offenses is down, including homicide, aggravated assault, rape, robbery, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.

"Public safety is my number one priority," Thao continued. "Under my administration, we've had the most officers on the street than we've ever had in the last three and a half years."

The police union pushed back on Thao's claims, noting that not enough has been done to provide law enforcement with the required resources.

Tim Dolan, vice president of the Oakland POA, stated, "This is a time to invest more in the city, hire more police officers, retain the police officers and fix the crime issue. And going forward, that's what we'd like to see from the next mayor."

Thao will face a recall election in November after residents gathered more than enough verified signatures to force the vote. However, the police union believes the mayor should not wait that long.

"If she resigns by this week, the election will take place in November, versus waiting through the recall. Then it will happen in April and the process drags out longer when we need to work into the new budget immediately," Nguyen explained.

Thao is also currently wrapped up in an FBI investigation. While no charges have been filed against her, Thao's home was raided by federal agents last month.

The mayor has maintained that the probe is "not about" her. However, the investigation recently expanded, with the FBI requesting phone directory records from the Oakland Police Department. The federal investigators also requested documents showing all federal funding sources since 2021.

Oakland residents move to oust progressive leaders over rampant crime, homelessness: 'Chaos'

Oakland, California, residents are moving to oust the city's progressive leaders who have overseen a significant increase in crime and homelessness.

Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao (D), currently battling a recall effort, is entangled in an FBI investigation. Several city staffers were recently forced to turn over records to the bureau in response to a federal grand jury subpoena.

'Oakland is in a crisis.'

For the first time last week, Thao addressed the news that law enforcement agents raided her home in June, repeatedly noting that she could not share much information due to the "ongoing investigation."

Thao will face a recall election in November after Oakland United to Recall Sheng Thao secured over 25,000 verified signatures ahead of the July 22 deadline. Those behind the recall effort have slammed Thao for firing former Oakland Police Department Chief LeRonne Armstrong and allowing a "surge of serious and violent crimes" that prompted a number of businesses to close.

After Thao's home was raided, her attorney and chief spokesperson abruptly resigned. She has not been charged with any crime.

Loren Taylor, a Democratic mayoral candidate running to replace Thao, told the San Francisco Chronicle, "To say that this is the worst compilation of troubling, challenging situations that I've seen is an understatement."

"A fiscal crisis, hundreds of millions of dollars, compounded with a public safety crisis that has folks fearful of moving around the city, and businesses leaving town, combined with homelessness crisis that continues to expand despite things getting better in neighboring cities. … This storm of events is the opposite of what Oakland needs right now when we're trying to rebound as a city, post-pandemic," Taylor stated.

J.J. Jenkins, a local bartender, described Oakland's current conditions as "chaos."

"Every time I think the pendulum has swung, something like Juneteenth [shooting] happens. And I don't think it's done yet. It's going to get worse before it gets better," Jenkins told the Chronicle.

Former Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris (D) stated, "Oakland is in a crisis."

Harris told the Chronicle, "Many of these problems are not new. They continue to evolve. They require ideas and renewed commitment to a plan of execution. The city must get beyond finger-pointing and the blame game as soon as possible."

West Oakland Pastor Dr. Ken Chambers, who provides homeless services through his church, told the news outlet that crime, homelessness, human trafficking, and prostitution have become a big issue in the city.

"I've been in Oakland 58 years. I've never seen anything like this before. It's a multitask, problematic, complicated situation," Chambers told the news outlet.

Thao is not the only progressive politician who will face an upcoming recall election.

George Soros-funded Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price (D), who has gained a soft-on-crime reputation, also made it onto the ballot after a recall effort, which only needed 73,000 verified signatures, submitted roughly 123,000 signatures to election officials. Those behind the recall torched Price for failing public safety and creating a "doom loop" with her "progressive policies and failed leadership."

Prosecutors' union supports recall of Soros-backed DA Pamela Price — chief assistant resigns

The Alameda County Prosecutors' Association threw its support behind the recall effort against George Soros-backed District Attorney Pamela Price, the San Francisco Chronicle recently reported.

According to an email obtained by the news outlet, the union "overwhelmingly" voted to support recalling the soft-on-crime DA.

The union's email read, "Our support for the recall reflects the unfair and hostile work conditions that we face everyday [sic], as we try in good faith to implement the policy directives that Pamela Price has created."

"Put different, our support for the recall is based on labor issues, not policy," it added.

During her time in office, the county has experienced an increase in crime and an exodus of businesses.

Price has recently led an investigation into past misconduct in her office, which she believes prompted the union to support the recall effort. The DA alleged that prosecutors in Alameda County between the mid-1980s and 2007 prevented black and Jewish residents from participating as jury members on death penalty cases, according to a CNN report.

During a Tuesday press conference, Price addressed the union's support for her removal from office.

"The prosecutors' union has always supported the recall. The prosecutors' union contributed $125,000 to my opponent's campaign and then fundraised an additional $75,000. The prosecutors' union, at this point, represents a very small percentage of our employees," Price stated.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 85% of the union's members participated in the recall vote. However, it is unclear how many ballots were cast supporting Price's removal.

"Unfortunately, the timing is indicative of the fact that this office has had a legacy and a history of unethical behavior, and it's obviously something that no one wanted us to uncover or certainly to expose to the public," Price continued. "We're aware that [the prosecutors' union] has been consistently opposed to our efforts to try to reform this office and to expose prosecutorial misconduct."

She called her office's investigation of the death penalty cases a "final straw" for the union.

"I do believe that they are threatened by our review of past prosecutorial misconduct. I believe that too many prosecutors in this office were raised with very different values than the values that this community holds today," Price added.

California Justice and Public Safety PAC, which received funding from Soros, gave $700,000 to Price's 2018 campaign.

In March, the groups behind the recall effort submitted approximately 123,000 signatures, Blaze News previously reported. To force a special election, they only needed roughly 73,000 verified signatures.

During Tuesday's press conference, Price announced that Chief Assistant District Attorney Otis Bruce Jr. had announced his resignation effective July 13.

"I can confirm that Otis Bruce Jr. has resigned," Price stated. "He was part of the transition team. We had a great experience with him. The impact on the office is such that it will continue to grow."

Oakland mayor facing ouster attempts to pin downfall on 'right-wingers' following FBI raid

Tens of thousands of Americans at wits' end in the crime-ridden city of Oakland enjoyed a breakthrough on June 18: They gathered far more than the required number of verified signatures to put Democratic Mayor Sheng Thao's recall to a vote in November.

Just days after learning that she might soon be held to account for the rampant crime and local collapse she has reigned over, Thao's house was raided by the FBI. According to ABC News, the FBI — whose agents ultimately left the home carrying boxes — were joined on the scene by elements of the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Postal Service.

It remains unclear why Thao's house was targeted, but it has been suggested in mainstream reports that Thao is under investigation for public corruption. The California Globe noted that another home raided in the area last week belonged to the owner of California Waste Solutions, which the Oakland Public Ethics Commission indicated in 2020 had illegally laundered campaign contributions to then-councilwoman Thao and several of her peers.

Rather than express humility or address the concerns of prospective recall voters, Thao used a press conference Monday to displace blame.

Thao noted that after 15 people were shot at a "Juneteenth" celebration, "our city woke up to the news that the FBI had raided the home that I share with my partner and our family," intimating the latter had a comparable gravity.

Vowing to be "100% transparent" but unwilling to take questions, Thao alleged, "I have done nothing wrong."

"I can tell you with confidence that this investigation is not about me. I have not been charged with a crime and I am confident that I will not be charged with the crime because I am innocent," claimed Thao. "The timing of all of this is troubling and we should all be concerned."

Thao expressed anger that other officials weren't similarly being raided and suggested that she would have been treated differently if she were wealthier than she already is or if she came from money.

The current mayor also suggested that despite lacking a foothold in Oakland, "There are a lot of radical right-wing forces" who have somehow managed to "build the rules to protect and preserve their power and maintain dominance over the rest of us."

The empowered rule maker further suggested that the desire by at least 40,000 residents in the city of roughly 430,550 to have her kicked out of office is a "waste of time."

"I'm not going down like that," said Thao, managing to work up a tear.

Oakland United to Recall Sheng Thao held its own press conference shortly after Thao's, poking holes in the mayor's characterizations and rhetoric, reported CBS News.

Seneca Scott, an organizer with the group, said, "We knew exactly what she would do: take no questions from the public after disappearing for several days, blame everyone, [and] scapegoat over 41,000 neighbors who signed her petition."

The Recall Thao campaign notes on its website that "Thao's incompetence and dishonesty accelerated Oakland's decline, causing longstanding businesses to close and generational families to leave."

Last year, the Athletics followed the Raiders and Golden State Warriors out of Oakland. Various businesses have fled the city or hired small armies of private security to deal with the crime.

Microsoft CEO boasts about new AI chatbot that will surveil users aided by 'photographic memory'

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently sat down for an interview with the Wall Street Journal to promote his company's new Windows AI Copilot+ computers. Nadella appeared excited about one feature in particular — AI software that will memorize users' every action on the device with photographic clarity.

Critics, particularly those keen on maintaining some modicum of privacy and autonomy in the age of ubiquitous surveillance, have expressed concerns about the "Recall" feature.

'It can recreate moments from the past, essentially.'

Nadella indicated that the company has long dreamt of introducing "photographic memory into what you do on the PC, and now we have it."

"It's not keyword search, right. It's semantic search over all your history," Nadella said enthusiastically. "It's not just about any doc — it can recreate moments from the past, essentially."

The Wall Street Journal indicated Recall "constantly takes screenshots of what's on your screen then uses a generative AI model right on the device along with the [Neural Processing Unit] to process all that data and make it searchable. Even photos."

To run Recall, a PC must have at least 16 GB RAM, 225 GB of storage, and an NPU that can swing 40 tera operations per second.

When the interviewer pressed Nadella about the notion that Recall is "creepy," the tech CEO — whose company recently built a generative AI model for American spies, regularly services the intelligence community, and has suffered major data breaches in recent years — said, "I mean, that's why you could only do it on the Edge. ... You have to put two things together: this is my computer, this is my Recall, and it's all being done locally, right. So, that's the promise."

"That's one of the reasons why Recall works as a magical thing because I can trust it," added Nadella.

Even though Microsoft has vowed to protect users' privacy by granting them the choice of turning off Recall or filtering out what they don't want tracked, some critics are not convinced.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote, "This is a Black Mirror episode. Definitely turning this 'feature' off."

Venture capitalist Roger McNamee noted, "Given that Microsoft has not been able to prevent massive hacks of its servers, this product — which will record everything you do on a Windows PC — qualifies as criminally insane."

— (@)

"Microsoft's like 'here NSA we made this present for u,'" tweeted Mike Benz, executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online.

It appears Microsoft is focused on producing prescient AI bots as well archivists of users' correspondences, written thoughts, and virtual actions.

At a recent Microsoft event in Redmond, Washington, Nadella said Recall is a step toward machines that "instantly see us, hear, reason about our intent and our surroundings," reported MarketWatch.

"We’re entering this new era where computers not only understand us, but can actually anticipate what we want and our intent," added the CEO.

Soros-backed DA Pamela Price will face recall vote

George Soros-funded Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price (D) will face a recall vote this year after campaigns targeting the soft-on-crime DA collected enough signatures to make it onto the ballot.

The groups behind the recall effort submitted 123,000 signatures to election officials in early March. The campaigns only needed approximately 73,000 verified signatures to trigger a special election.

On Monday, the Alameda County registrar of voters announced that enough verified signatures were collected to launch a recall vote.

Following a manual review, the registrar found that 74,757 of the signatures were valid, while nearly 49,000 were invalid, KQED reported.

The county's board of supervisors will need to determine when to hold the recall election. A date must be decided within 14 days of the registrar completing the signature validation process.

It is unclear whether the county will hold a separate special election, which would cost around $20 million, or if the recall vote will be consolidated with the regularly scheduled election in November to save funds.

Leaders of the effort to oust Price have blamed her progressive policies for the increase in criminal activity in Oakland.

Price promised to radically reform the criminal justice system, reduce mass incarceration, end the death penalty, and prohibit minors from being charged as adults.

Since Price has been in office, many Oakland businesses have closed down due to the area's rampant crime.

Carl Chan, one of the recall's leaders, stated in March that the petition to remove Price is "not about politics, but about public safety."

Brenda Grisham, another leader of the recall effort, said, "We shouldn't have to do this, but for the safety of our community, the safety of our children, the safety of our businesses, this is something that had to be done. This is a right for the citizens of Alameda County."

Under Price's leadership, multiple veteran prosecutors have resigned, citing an inability to perform their job duties. Even the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's Oakland branch has accused Price of creating a "doom-loop," slamming her "progressive policies and failed leadership."

A spokesperson for Price's Protect the Win campaign previously claimed that the DA would win a recall vote. However, Price's campaign has since become so low on money that it allowed the contract with its campaign manager to expire, KQED reported.

Price, during a July interview with local news, claimed that her role as DA "has really no impact on crime." She has called those who support the recall effort "election deniers."

"We had an election. We won the election by an overwhelming majority. It wasn't a small, close election and so the people who lost, they lost, and when you lose an election, you shouldn't be able to overturn the will of the voters. That's what happened during the insurrection on Jan. 6," Price stated last year.

Gavin Newsom recall effort will now begin gathering signatures following petition approval

The latest recall effort against California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom will begin gathering signatures. On Tuesday, the California Secretary of State's Elections Division approved the campaign's petition for circulation, KGTV reported.

A recent memo to Rescue California read, "Today, March 26, 2024, the Secretary of State's office approved petitions for circulation for the recall of Governor Gavin Newsom."

The citizen-led group, which launched in February, has until September 3, 2024, to collect a minimum of 1,311,963 valid signatures. The number of signatures required to get a recall vote on the ballot is equal to 12% of the votes cast in the previous gubernatorial election.

"Valid signatures must be obtained from at least five counties and in each of those counties must equal at least 1% of the last vote for Governor," the memo explained.

Rescue California argues that Newsom "has abandoned the state to advance his Presidential ambitions." The group slammed the governor for "leaving behind a $68 Billion budget deficit and a public safety, immigration and education crisis."

Newsom "granted 700,000 illegal immigrants free health care at a cost to taxpayers of $3 billion annually, while cutting vital programs for veterans, school children, the disabled and the homeless," Rescue California's website stated.

The governor also "kept schools closed during Covid longer than other states allowing California students to fall further behind in basic skills such as language and mathematics," the group claimed.

The latest recall effort marks at least the fifth attempt to remove the governor from office, The Hill previously reported.

Rescue California led a recall to oust Newsom in 2021. While the group successfully gathered enough signatures to make it on the ballot, the governor ultimately won the election by 23 points.

Anne Hyde Dunsmore with Rescue California stated in February, "He's exhibited [an ability] ... to take care of problems very quickly when he feels like it. He cleaned up a city in three days, he fixed a freeway in less than two weeks," KEYE reported.

Rescue California blamed Newsom for the state's homelessness crisis.

"In the last two years, the homeless population has exploded, crime rates have increased, learning loss for students is off the charts, and a multi-billion dollar surplus is now a $70 billion deficit. The blame is on the Governor's shoulders while he is campaigning nationally," the group stated in a post on Facebook.

Residents also recently launched a separate recall effort against George Soros-backed, leftist Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price. The group submitted 123,000 signatures for validation earlier this month, but only 73,000 must be validated to get a recall vote on the ballot.

Newsom Sends Prosecutorial Backup to Oakland's Soft-on-Crime DA

California governor Gavin Newsom (D.) will dispatch state prosecutors to go after criminals in Oakland and the surrounding area, as local momentum builds to oust the county’s George Soros-backed prosecutor for her lenient policies.

The post Newsom Sends Prosecutorial Backup to Oakland's Soft-on-Crime DA appeared first on Washington Free Beacon.

Honda recalls 750,000 vehicles over massive flub where airbag sensors were 'not sufficiently verified' before rollout

Honda is recalling more than 750,000 of its vehicles over the risk of airbags improperly deploying.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration detailed in its report that front and knee-level airbags may deploy despite the presence of an infant or small person.

"In the event of a crash, the front passenger frontal and knee airbags may deploy despite the presence of an occupant ... for whom deployment should be suppressed, increasing the risk of injury," the report said.

The reason for the error in the seat weight sensor is a peculiar one.

"Due to a natural disaster at the manufacturing plant of a tier-2 supplier, the tier-1 supplier temporarily changed the base material in the printed circuit board of the seat weight sensor, which was not sufficiently verified for its intended use," the report read. "The alternative base material could allow additional strain to the printed circuit board that can lead to a capacitor cracking and an internal short circuit."

In this case, the natural disaster may be referring to historic flooding in east Asia in 2020. According to the Autopian, flooding may have caused a tier-2 supplier in China (which produces smaller parts) to not be able to provide materials for a significant period of time.

The outlet also theorized that the tier-1 supplier may have been "Aisin Electronics of Illinois, which is a subsidiary of mega Japanese supplier Aisin and the one listed on the recall notice."

Nevertheless, the car dealers will have to "replace the seat weight sensor with a non-defective part" for the owners for a large swath of Honda vehicles.

As reported by AL.com, the list of vehicles included:

2020-2022 Honda Accord
2020-2021 Honda Accord Hybrid
2020 Honda Civic 2-door
2020-2022 Honda Civic 4-door
2021-2022 Honda Civic hatchback
2021 Honda Civic Type R
2020-2021 Honda CR-V
2020-2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid
2020 Honda Fit
2020-2022 Honda HR-V
2021 Honda Insight
2020-2022 Honda Odyssey
2020-2022 Honda Pilot
2020-2021 Honda Passport
2020-2021 Honda Ridgeline
2020 Acura MDX
2022 Acura MDX
2020-2022 Acura RDX
2020-2021 Acura TLX

Unfortunately for Honda, just 1% of the 750,114 recalls are likely to be effected by the defect. That means only 7,500 cars could actually be effected, but, of course, its better to be safe than sorry.

Honda reportedly said in a statement that it has had 3,834 warranty claims, but there have been no reports of injuries or deaths related to the recall. As Reuters noted, the recall dates back to June 2020.
