Newly released footage shows horrific moment a suspect fleeing police in stolen vehicle smashed into a sedan, bringing down a building

A high-speed police chase ended in rubble and ruin Feb. 8, after a suspect in a stolen vehicle hammered into another car, sending both careening into a derelict building in northeast Baltimore. The fatal incident was captured both on an officer's body camera and a CitiWatch surveillance system.

The Maryland attorney general's office's Independent Investigations Division released the footage Thursday.

The AG's office, presently looking into the incident, stated that a Baltimore Police Eastern District officer observed a vehicle reported stolen in the 1800 block of East North Avenue around 8:55 p.m., then attempted a traffic stop. The suspect refused to pull over and attempted to evade the officer, driving recklessly at high speeds.

Police followed the stolen Hyundai Sonata down North Wolfe Street. The suspect, whom the Baltimore Sun noted has been identified as 33-year-old Shawn Lee Brunson, barreled past a church and into an intersection, where he slammed into the driver's side of a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Both the Sonata and the Eclipse subsequently spun out of control, careening right into a pedestrian, 54-year-old Alfred Fincher of Baltimore, father of three. After both vehicles crushed the victim, they smashed into a vacant row home. The brick façade and the lower walls cascaded down, burying both vehicles.

Fincher was pronounced dead on the scene. There were five people inside the two cars involved in the incident, all of whom were injured.

After his release from hospital, Brunson, the driver of the stolen vehicle, was arrested on vehicle theft charges.

The New York Post reported that over 40 firefighters and emergency personnel and at least four fire trucks were involved in the efforts to clear the debris from the building. Authorities pulled the two sedans from the rubble at approximately 10:30 p.m. and subsequently towed them away.

Here is a graphic excerpt from the full video:

In bodycam footage of the aftermath of the crash, Officer Devin Yancy — a 4.5-year veteran on the force — can be seen drawing his weapon and ordering the suspect to show his hands and exit the car. While Yancy restored order, other officers can be seen rushing to dig out the victims trapped under the debris.

The attorney representing Fincher's surviving family alleged that in the bodycam footage, a voice over the police radio can be heard telling officers, "Just let it go," reported the Sun.

"The officer did not break off the pursuit, and Alfred Fincher is dead,” said attorney Divya Potdar.

According to Baltimore Police policy, officers reportedly are permitted to give chase if there is a felony suspect inside the vehicle who poses an "immediate threat" of death or injury, or if there is a strong possibility ahead of the pursuit that the suspect had committed a felony that could have resulted in death or significant harm.

Baltimore Police Deputy Commissioner Richard Worley has made the case that officers did not pursue the Sonata, but had rather endeavored to try to stop it.

Video: Fires erupt at 3 different oil facilities of the same company in Texas and Mexico in one day

Fires engulfed three separate oil facilities owned by the same company in one day. The oil facilities were owned by Pemex and located in Texas and Mexico.

Petroleos Mexicanos, best known as Pemex, had fires at three of their oil facilities on Thursday. The infernos left eight people injured and five others missing as of Thursday night. One person died in the fire, according to Bloomberg.

Five people were unaccounted for and three were hospitalized following a fire at a Pemex storage facility in Ixhuatlan del Sureste in the Mexican state of Veracruz, according to the state-owned Mexican petroleum company.

The fire was extinguished. However, the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

Pemex also confirmed that there was also a fire at its Minatitlan refinery in Veracruz, Mexico. Five people were injured in that fire. The fire did not affect the refinery's operations and did not damage any equipment, according to the oil company.

Pemex said, "It is presumed that the possible cause of the fire was product runoff on a hot surface."

On the same day, a third fire broke out at the Pemex-run refinery in Deer Park, Texas. The fire was extinguished, and the incident was downgraded to an "all-clear" situation.

Video shows thick, black smoke billowing out of the oil facility fire, and could be seen from miles away.

There have been dangerous and deadly accidents at Pemex facilities in the past.

Reuters reported on Friday, "Earlier this week, at least two people died after a vehicle collision inside a Pemex refinery in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, according to local media reports."

Last November, 19 people were injured after a leaking pipeline carrying ethane gas exploded in Veracruz.

Last September, a gas pipeline in the Mexican state of Tabasco exploded, forcing the evacuation of all workers at the Paredón Hydrocarbon Separation Station.

In January 2022, the same government-owned pipeline in Tabasco leaked oil that sparked a fire in Huimanguillo.

In August 2021, five people were killed and six were injured when a fire broke out at the Pemex oil platform in the Bay of Campeche in the southern Gulf of Mexico.

Video: NYC deli clerk miraculously survives being shot in the eye at point-blank range during armed ambush

Video shows a New York City deli clerk narrowly cheating death. A Queens bodega worker miraculously survived an attack at point-blank range by a man armed with two guns.

Surveillance footage captured the moment that an armed man dressed in black with a face mask marched into the Rockaway Express Deli in South Ozone Park. Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the gunman walked right up to the counter and shot the deli worker from less than two feet away. The shooter rattled off three gunshots that caused the 47-year-old deli clerk to slump to the floor as he held his head in pain.

The gunman exited the deli, but then stormed back to the crime scene with a rifle. As the bloodied clerk was struggling to get off the floor, the gunman pointed the rifle over the counter and blasted several shots at the deli worker. The suspect then left the bodega.

The deli clerk and a customer were injured in the shooting. Both victims were rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Police said the deli worker was shot in the eye. The 27-year-old customer suffered a wrist injury — possibly from a ricocheting bullet or shell casing, according to the New York Post.

Police named Donnie Hudson as the shooting suspect and arrested the 35-year-old man on Wednesday night.

The New York Daily News reported, "Hudson, who lives above the deli, was arrested a few hours later and charged with attempted murder, assault, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said."

The outlet said that the shooting was a "result of a long-standing beef between the two men," according to police sources.

Investigators said Hudson visited the deli earlier on the day of the shooting, according to WABC-TV. Hudson reportedly told detectives that deli employees had been stealing from his home.

Hudson was reportedly held without bail after his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on Thursday.

Hot pursuit: Graphic footage captures the moment a Taser transformed a suspect into a human torch

Around 1:10 a.m. on October 13, a motorcycle driver ran a red light near Asher Avenue and S Pine St in Little Rock, Arkansas. A police cruiser was immediately behind the suspect and prompted the driver to pull over. Rather than stop to receive a warning or a ticket, the driver sped off — a decision he would soon come to regret.

The Arkansas State Police officers who gave chase can be heard on the dashcam video of the pursuit noting that the motorcycle driver, driving recklessly through residential areas, was hitting speeds in excess of 80 mph. During a short stint along the highway, the suspect whipped by at 110 mph. Fortunately, since it was early morning, there were only a few vehicles on the road, meaning fewer obstacles and potential victims.

At one point, when the suspect blew through another red light, he nearly collided with a vehicle entering the intersection. Unfazed, he motored onward.

On several occasions, police drew up close to the vehicle but did not make contact.

Finally, approximately nine minutes into the chase, the suspect proved out of maneuvers. Near W 44th Street and Chandler St, he pulled off the road and into an unpaved area where he crashed with police still hot on his tail.

ASP officers pursued the suspect on foot.

One officer drew his Taser. It is unclear from the footage whether the officer fired his stun gun, but as he closed in on the suspect, the suspect tumbled. As soon as the man hit the ground, flames enveloped him.

The tongues of fire that subsequently leapt from the suspect as he blindly stumbled forward may have been the result of an accelerant on his person, potentially contained in a jerrycan in his backpack.

One officer radioed, "He's on fire!"

As officers hurried to procure a fire extinguisher, the suspect cried out, "Help me!"

Help arrived within seconds. Advising the man to "lay on the ground," ASP officers extinguished the fire and began cutting off the the suspect's melted jacket.

Once the residual fires had been put out and the suspect was receiving first aid, one officer farther afield quipped, "Good reason not to run, eh?"

Another officer, tending to the badly-burned and handcuffed suspect, said, "Bet you think twice next time."

An ASP spokesman told TheBlaze that the "investigation remains active and until adjudication of the case, no other information will be released."

The full chase and aftermath can be seen in this video:

If the Taser had triggered the fire in this incident, it wouldn't be the first time in recent months.

On February 27, a sheriff's deputy in Osceola County, Florida, caught up to a suspect who had similarly evaded law enforcement on a motorcycle. The suspect, Jean Barreto, pulled into a Wawa gas station to fill up his vehicle.

Spotting Barreto, Deputy David Crawford tried to make an arrest. Barreto resisted, prompting Crawford to use force.

Crawford fired his Taser at Barreto, accidentally sparking the gasoline that had been spilled in the fracas.

Barreto allegedly wound up with burns over 75% of his body. Crawford was also hospitalized but quickly released.

On October 30, 2019, 29-year-old Jason Jones reportedly rushed into the Catskill Police Department in Greene County, New York. Agitated and argumentative — having been told earlier to leave a bar by police officers — he confronted police, reportedly wanting to talk about how the officers had "handled the situation."

After pacing around and attempting to open a door, Jones tore off his shirt and doused himself with hand sanitizer.

An officer produced his Taser as the situation appeared to be going sideways. The Taser, when fired, set the flammable hand sanitizer and Jones ablaze.

After 45 days in a Syracuse hospital ICU, Jones succumbed to his injuries.

Video: Man punches state trooper in face on side of highway — and Good Samaritans pull over to help subdue attacker

Dashcam video caught an unsettling scene, as a man who had been walking along the shoulder of Interstate 4 punched a Florida Highway Patrol officer in the face, WTSP-TV reported.

What are the details?

The state trooper was called just before 10 a.m. Friday about a man who was wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt and carrying a duffle bag walking on the left shoulder of the interstate just west of exit 5 in Tampa, the station said.

The trooper approached the man — identified as Alexander Hernandez Delgado — and asked him why he walking along the interstate, WTSP said.

Dash cam shows drivers help Florida trooper punched by suspect on I-4youtu.be

Delgado told the trooper he's an artist, and his mother had just kicked him out of the house, the station said, citing the FHP report. After running his name through a database, the trooper reportedly tried to search Delgado and put him in the back of his cruiser, WTSP said.

"The subject became argumentative and stated that I am bothering him and that he would like to be left alone," the trooper noted in the arrest report, according to the station. "I state to him that I'm just trying to assist him off the interstate and attempted to guide the subject toward the back seat of my patrol vehicle."

Dashcam video then captured the moment Delgado punched the officer in the face.

"The subject attempted to run north toward the center median guardrail, and I attempted to place the subject in custody, and the subject proceeds to resist with violence throwing several punches and striking me again," the trooper noted in the report, according to WTSP.

Dashcam video showed the officer tackling Delgado near the median, but authorities said Delgado kept fighting, the station noted.

Good Samaritans step up

But soon a truck driver pulled over, ran toward the scuffle, and helped subdue Delgado so the trooper could handcuff him.

Other drivers also pulled over and ran to the scene to help the trooper.

What happened to the trooper and the suspect?

Paramedics checked out the trooper and Delgado, WTSP said. The trooper had a bloody nose but was otherwise OK, the station said, adding that Delgado had a minor cut on his chin.

Delgado was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence, WTSP reported.

'The cops can't do it all themselves'

Randy Sutton — founder of Wounded Blue, an organization that helps law enforcement officers who are injured in the line of duty — had high praise for the motorists who stopped to help the trooper.

“The cops can’t do it all themselves,” Sutton told WFLA-TV, adding that “every officer, doesn’t matter what community they serve, is in danger, every single day that they’re out on the streets."

The trooper went right back to work Friday following the incident, the station said, adding that the Good Samaritan motorists also went about their day's business.

Kamala Harris mercilessly mocked for saying voters 'got what they asked for' by electing her, Joe Biden

Vice President Kamala Harris was torn to shreds on social media after saying during a speech Monday that voters "got what they asked for" by electing her and President Joe Biden to office.

What are the details?

Harris was speaking at a Black History Month event at the White House, and she brought up Biden's recent nomination of Judge Ketanji Jackson to the Supreme Court. If confirmed, Jackson would be the first black woman to sit on the highest court in the land.

Harris noted what she viewed as "the assault on the freedom to vote" in the U.S. and then mentioned Jackson.

"And that is why I felt such pride and such hope — understanding how votes lead to action through elections — it is why I felt such pride and such hope this past Friday when President Joe Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson ... to sit on the United States Supreme Court," Harris said to applause. "Because, as we all know, elections matter. And when folks vote, they order what they want. And in this case, they got what they asked for."

Amid further applause, Harris admitted that she "went off script a little bit" and then let loose with her familiar laugh.

It's not clear which of her words of were "off script," but one could argue Harris meant Jackson's nomination when she said voters "got what they asked for." However, there's a bit of a factual problem with such a conclusion.

Because even though Biden made it a campaign promise that he would choose a black woman as his first Supreme Court nominee, a recent poll showed the vast majority of Americans — 76% — wanted Biden to "consider all possible nominees" and not nominate anyone to the high court based solely on race or gender. Only 23% of the ABC News/Ipsos poll respondents wanted Biden to stick with his campaign promise.

So exactly how is Jackson's nomination what voters "asked for"? If that's not what Harris meant, has the Biden/Harris administration given voters "what they asked for" so far?

What happened next?

Charlie Spiering — White House Correspondent for Breitbart News — tweeted a shortened version of Harris on the microphone saying "elections matter. And when folks vote, they order what they want. And in this case, they got what they asked for. I went off script a little bit."

And then Shane Goldmacher — national political reporter for the New York Times — piggybacked on Spiering's clip:

With that, notable critics blasted Harris to bits, turning their attention to the Biden/Harris administration's colossal failures after just one year running the show:

Others couldn't have agreed more:

  • Republican U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota quipped, "Please tell me some talented impersonator dubbed audio over video of a funny thing she said."
  • Jesse Hunt, communications director for the Republican Governors Association, asked, "Wonder what the WH staff thinks of the Kamala reboot?"
  • Tim Murtaugh, former communications director for the Trump 2020 campaign, noted that "Biden has a 37% approval rating in the recent ABC poll. People didn't ask for this. She is a terrible politician."

Some pointed to how useful Harris' words will be for the GOP during election season:

  • "Gonna see this in about every GOP campaign in America," Josh Holmes — former chief of staff and campaign manager for Sen. Mitch McConnell — observed.
  • Nick Trainer, former of Trump's reelection campaign, noted that Harris' proclamations will "be in a lot of ads you see over the next eight months…and then the two years after, too."

And former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker offered a succinct response to Harris saying on the clip that voters "got what they asked for."

Yes they did. \n\nBut we\u2019re going to fix that soon.https://twitter.com/shanegoldmacher/status/1498400046307500038\u00a0\u2026

Portland rioters set fire to Apple store that had George Floyd mural, vandalize church that feeds the homeless

For the third time this week, a riot was declared in Portland late Friday night after insurgents demanding social justice caused widespread damage to businesses and a church that feeds the homeless weekly.

A group of several hundred people marched through Portland on Friday. During the BLM protest, the crowd chanted, "If we don't get it, shut it down!" and "Black lives matter!"

The Portland Police reported looting and some stores were vandalized with anti-cop graffiti. There were also reports of gunshots. Some rioters destroyed the storefront windows of Nordstrom, Verizon, Nike, Starbucks, and banks.

During the height of last summer's protests against police brutality, Nike pledged $40 million over four years to "support the Black community" and to "supporting organizations that put social justice, education and addressing racial inequality in America at the center of their work." At the same time, Verizon announced that it would donate $10 million to various social justice groups, including the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the National Urban League. The Starbucks Foundation offered $1 million in neighborhood grants to support racial equality in response to the death of George Floyd.

"These are the people feeding the unhoused and telling the story of racial injustice in Oregon. It just doesn't make sense," a downtown Portland resident told Shane D. Kavanaugh, a reporter with The Oregonian.

The Oregon Historical Society was also damaged; vandals wrote: "NO MORE HISTORY."

VIDEO: Tacoma police vehicle plows through crowd, officer placed on leave

A Tacoma Police officer has been temporarily placed on leave after plowing through a crowd in Washington state. The dramatic and graphic scene was captured on video.

Tacoma Police were responding to a "car meet" that allegedly got "out of control." Video shows cars doing "burnouts" and "donuts" in the middle of an intersection. The car meet had "approximately 100 people present blocking the intersection when officers arrived on scene," the Tacoma Police said in a press release.

At one point, one of the vehicles doing donuts appears to hit an onlooker.

"Tacoma Police officers responding to the location began clearing the intersection of vehicles and people for the safety of those gathered and people trying to use the street," the police department stated.

The Tacoma Police Department statement said the crowd surrounded the vehicle, and people "hit the body of the police vehicle and its windows as the officer was stopped in the street."

"The officer, fearing for his safety, tried to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd," the press release said. "The officer had his lights and sirens activated. While trying to extricate himself from an unsafe position, the officer drove forward striking one individual and may have impacted others."

Videos from the scene of the incident show the stopped police SUV and the crowd gathered around it. Then the police vehicle accelerates forward, plowing into the crowd. The vehicle knocks several people to the ground, and one man is seen in the video being run over by the front and rear tires.

One person sustained a laceration from the incident and was transported to a local hospital. The police were unaware of the person's condition.

City Manager Elizabeth Pauli told the News Tribune that the officer driving the vehicle would be placed on leave. The investigation has been turned over to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team.

"I am concerned that our department is experiencing another use of deadly force incident," interim Tacoma Police Chief Mike Ake said. "I send my thoughts to anyone who was injured in tonight's event, and am committed to our Department's full cooperation in the independent investigation and to assess the actions of the department's response during the incident."
