Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray dies at 30, one day after withdrawing from tournament over 'illness'

Professional golfer Grayson Murray died on Saturday morning, just one day after withdrawing from a tournament over an "illness." The two-time PGA Tour winner was only 30.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan stated. "The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones."

Monahan added, "I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."

One day before his sudden death, Murray withdrew from the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge. Murray had played 16 holes in the second round Charles Schwab Challenge before withdrawing due to an "illness."

Murray shot a 2-under 68 on Thursday, but was 5-over on Friday’s round at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. He withdrew from the tournament due to an undisclosed illness with two holes remaining.

No details have been provided about Murray's cause of death.

As a teen, Murray won three consecutive Callaway Junior World Championships and was the top-ranked golfer in his age group.

At age 16, Murray was the second-youngest golfer in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Murray's pro golf career started in 2015 and was an immediate success. He won the 2017 Barbasol Championship while just a 23-year-old rookie.

Murray won his second PGA Tour title at this year's Sony Open in Hawaii.

Murray had been open with battles with alcoholism.

"Yes, I would drink during tournament weeks," Murray said after his Sony Open win in January, according to CBS Sports. "It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22-year-old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won. Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year – but also feeling like I was invincible."

Murray continued, "It took me a long time to get to this point. I'm a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn't put that drink down eight months ago."

He added, "People who don't know me, I'll have to show it through my actions, and they'll get back on Grayson's side. My demeanor is so much better. It's really a lot of fun now. I really don't live and die by a golf shot anymore. I'm not going to sit here and say it's going to be all glory and roses, but it's going to be a lot better."

In January, Murray said that he had been sober since early 2023.

He truly would do anything for anyone.

Tributes poured in for the PGA golfer who died suddenly.

Murray's caddie, Jay Green, told the Golf Channel, "Grayson was the absolute best. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful, and generous boss, he has an even better friend. He truly would do anything for anyone. He has the best family, and my heart goes out to them. We will all miss him deeply."

PGA golfer Bubba Watson said, "Very sad to hear the news of Grayson Murray’s passing today. Life is so fragile… I was just hugging you at the Masters, telling you how proud of you I am. Thankful to have known you. My deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. He will be missed."

British golfer Luke Donald stated, "Truly devastating news that Grayson Murray has passed away. He asked me for some advice on how to play Augusta a few months ago, last week I saw him at the PGA Championship, life truly is precious. My condolences and prayers to his whole family that they may find some peace."

Indiana mother of two, 41, dies suddenly on diverted American Airlines flight from Dominican Republic

An Indiana mother of two died suddenly after falling ill on an American Airlines flight headed to the United States that was forced to be diverted.

The unidentified 41-year-old woman was traveling on Wednesday from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on American Airlines Flight 2790 to Charlotte, North Carolina. The woman became violently ill during the flight.

Shortly after 6 p.m., the woman from central Indiana was given CPR on the commercial airplane. The plane was diverted to the Providenciales International Airport on the Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos for emergency medical help.

However, the woman suddenly died, according to police.

"A medical team, along with police units, were dispatched, and the patient was transported to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, where she died," the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force said in a press release.

Turks and Caicos authorities said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the woman's sudden death.

American Airlines told Fox News that the flight flew to Charlotte the following day.

According to the outlet, a woman on Facebook identified the passenger as her sister-in-law.

"This was my sister-in-law," said the woman from Indiana named Stephanie Quinn. "We are in disbelief and our hearts are breaking."

"The only girl out of 5 siblings, so you can imagine how protected she was by those boys," Quinn alleged. "Mother of 2 beautiful children with big hearts and straight A's at school. Now my nephew won't have his mom at his graduation in May."

Quinn wrote to the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force, "She is still down there so please take good care of her as she ventures home."

Family says 28-year-old Jansen Panettiere died suddenly of enlarged heart, Hayden Panettiere honors 'brilliant' brother

Jansen Panettiere's cause of death has been revealed after the 28-year-old died suddenly last month.

Jansen Panettiere, the younger brother of actress Hayden Panettiere, died unexpectedly on Feb. 19 at his apartment in Nyack, New York. Friends of the actor found Jansen "sitting upright in a chair unresponsive." The friends attempted to revive Panettiere with CPR, but were unsuccessful. EMTs pronounced Panettiere dead at the scene.

Jansen's father, Alan "Skip" Panettiere, noted that he talked to his son on the phone the night before and thought he "sounded okay."

The Panettiere family divulged that Jansen suddenly died from an enlarged heart.

"Though it offers little solace, the Medical Examiner reported Jansen’s sudden passing was due to cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), coupled with aortic valve complications," the family said in a statement to ABC News.

"Jansen’s heart could be seen in his eyes, and his charm in his brilliant, engaging smile; his soul in his masterful and revealing paintings, and the joy of life in his dry wit," the family said in the tribute to the actor turned artist.

"We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love and support towards our family as we navigate this unthinkable loss, and ask that we be gifted our privacy during this time of mourning. We love you so much Jansen and you will be in our hearts forever," said his family — his father, mother Lesley Vogel, and sister Hayden Panettiere.

The Cleveland Clinic describes an enlarged heart as a "heart that’s bigger than what is typical."

"Your heart may be unusually thick or dilated (stretched). An enlarged heart may be temporary or permanent, depending on the cause," the Cleveland Clinic explains. "Cardiomegaly can happen to your whole heart or just parts of it. Heart enlargement can be your heart’s reaction to something that forces it to use more effort to circulate blood."

According to the Mayo Clinic: "An enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) can be caused by damage to the heart muscle or any condition that makes the heart pump harder than usual, including pregnancy."

The Mayo Clinic lists several medical conditions associated with an enlarged heart, such as damage from a heart attack, high blood pressure, low red blood cell count, diseases of the heart muscle and valves, unusual accumulation of protein deposits in the heart, thyroid issues, and heart conditions that have been present since birth.

Dr. Shriprasad R. Deshpande, medical director of the Heart Transplant and Advanced Cardiac Therapies Program at Children's National Hospital, told Yahoo Entertainment the possible symptoms of an enlarged heart.

"There may be a decrease in exercise capacity, they may have a fast heartbeat, and sometimes they may experience syncope (blackout/passing out)," Deshpande said. "In children, the only presenting symptom may be breathing problems and stomach pains or loss of appetite. Serious presentations are sudden cardiac arrest, which may result in sudden death."

Jansen Panettiere was a painter and an actor who appeared in "The Walking Dead," "Ice Age: The Meltdown," "Blue's Clues," "Even Stevens," "Perfect Game," and the animated Nickelodeon series "The X's." Jansen most recently appeared in the 2022 holiday movie "Love and Love Not."

Jansen and his celebrity sister Hayden Panettiere appeared together in the 2004 TV movie "Tiger Cruise" and in the "Racing Stripes" animated TV show in 2005.

Just weeks before his death, Jansen posted a photo on Instagram of his older sister giving him a haircut.

17-year-old Wyoming basketball player dies suddenly after 'freakish medical situation'

A 17-year-old Wyoming basketball player died suddenly after a medical event, according to local reports.

Max Sorenson died unexpectedly at his home in Gillette on Dec. 26. He was pronounced dead at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem told the Cowboy State Daily that the teen's sudden death would not be investigated as a suicide, homicide, or caused by the use of illegal drugs.

An autopsy of the junior high school student was being conducted in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Wallem said preliminary findings show that Sorenson suddenly died from peritonitis.

The Mayo Clinic explains that peritonitis "happens when the thin layer of tissue inside the abdomen becomes inflamed." Peritonitis can be caused by infection by bacteria – typically when someone has liver disease or kidney disease. Other health conditions that cause peritonitis are liver cirrhosis, appendicitis, stomach ulcers, diverticulitis (inflammation of pouches in the digestive tract), Crohn's disease, and pancreatitis. Peritonitis can also be caused by a "rupture, inside an organ in the abdomen."

Wallem told the Cowboy State Daily, "We are assuming it’s (from) an injury related to a sporting event."

The coroner said he is "focusing on the injury in the sporting event as the cause of peritonitis," but added that if the determination isn't supported by medical evidence, then "we will continue to look at other answers."

Wallen said that additional tests by a forensic pathologist were being conducted.

Sorenson's obituary said the 17-year-old died "due to complications from injuries sustained playing basketball."

"Max had an incredible work ethic and was very disciplined. His focus was evidenced by his achievements at school, on the basketball court, at church and in his social activities," the obituary read. "Even more important than those successes were his welcoming smile, kind eyes, curly locks and loving personality, which made friendship with him easy and comfortable and was felt by everyone."

His parents said he was a "smart, hard-working student, he maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA." Max also played golf, and was a wakesurfer and wakeboarder.

"Max loved his savior and the gospel of Jesus Christ. He attended early-morning seminary and served as the bishop’s first assistant in his Gillette ward as well as other leadership positions in the church," his parents said.

"Max loved basketball and in particular he loved his teammates, coaches, and the chance to travel to various locations to play," the obituary continued. "He was a member of the varsity basketball team at Thunder Basin High School and looked forward to helping the Bolts to a repeat Wyoming state championship in 2023."

Sorenson was a 6'3" guard weighing 175 lbs. who played on the Thunder Basin High School basketball team.

The Thunder Basin boys basketball team paid tribute to the teen who tragically died.

Thunder Basin High School basketball coach Rory Williams said, "I'm not going to remember Max as the basketball player. I'm going to remember Max as the kindest young man I’ve ever been around. He was just so genuine, authentic; his personality was contagious."

Williams said Sorenson's sudden death was a "freakish medical situation."

During the recent Hoop City Classic basketball tournament, the Thunder Basin High School boys basketball team honored Sorenson by wearing his #3 jersey. The Harrisburg High School boys basketball team also paid tribute to Max by wearing Sorenson's #3.

'Eight is Enough' star Adam Rich dead at 54

Hollywood actor Adam Rich is dead at age 54.

Rich reportedly died at his Los Angeles home on Saturday. He was best known for his child acting role as Nicholas Bradford on the "Eight is Enough" TV show starring actor Dick Van Patten that began in 1977.

Danny Deraney, Rich's Hollywood representative, released a statement announcing the actor's death.

"Adam was simply a wonderful guy,” Deaney said. "He was kind, generous and a warrior in the fight against mental illness."

"Adam did not have an ounce of ego," the tribute continued. "He was unselfish and always looked out for those he cared about, which is why many people who grew up with him feel like part of their childhood gone, and sad today. He really was America’s little brother."

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the celebrity death. Police say no foul play was involved in Rich's death.

Rich's cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Besides starring in five seasons of ABC's "Eight is Enough," Rich was a Hollywood actor for nearly 30 years.

Rich first appeared in the 1970s action television series "The Six Million Dollar Man." He also appeared on "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "CHiPs," "The City," "Small Wonder," "3-2-1," "The Devil and Max Devlin," "Gun Shy," "St. Elsewhere," "Silver Spoons," and a voice role in the animated series "Dungeons & Dragons."

Rich, born in Brooklyn on Oct. 12, 1968, appeared in a 1993 episode of "Baywatch."

Rich's last significant role was playing himself in the 2003 David Spade comedy movie "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star."

Rich nearly died from a valium overdose in 1989, according to Variety.

In 1991, he was arrested and charged with attempted burglary of a pharmacy in the West Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. "Eight is Enough" co-star Dick Van Patten bailed Rich out of jail.

Rich spent three years in rehab before being arrested in 2002 for driving under the influence.
