Zoo employees notice big cat with a shoe in its mouth; then staff makes grisly discovery

Employees of a zoo in Pakistan's Punjab province noticed that a big cat had a shoe in its mouth. As workers investigated the strange situation, they quickly made a grisly discovery — a man had been mauled to death by the big cat.

On Wednesday, workers saw a big cat with a shoe in its mouth at the Sherbagh Zoo in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.

"When they cleaned the zoo and the dens, they found the (animal) holding a shoe in its mouth," said Zaheer Anwar, a senior government official in Bahawalpur.

"The staff got suspicious, and then they found a body inside the den," he added.

An official with the rescue service in Bahawalpur told AFP that the victim's legs had been severely mauled.

"It is yet not known who he is and how he got there. It is being investigated. The body looked several hours old," the official said, adding that forensic experts were examining the body.

Officials are not sure how the man got into the big cat enclosure. Authorities did not reveal the identity of the man who was mauled to death in the animal attack.

"Our assessment so far is that this appears to be a lunatic because a sensible person would not jump into the den," Anwar added. "You can see that the den is secured. There are stairs behind the den, maybe he jumped from there."

Anwar identified the animal only as a "big cat," which can be a tiger, lion, jaguar, cougar, leopard, or cheetah.

The Sherbagh Zoo's website notes that it hosts Asiatic lions and Bengal tigers.

"The exhibits are a mix between old style cages and newer moated enclosures," the Sherbagh Zoo's website reads.

"Lions, tigers, and hyenas are housed in more modern moated enclosures," the site adds.

The animal attack fatality in Pakistan comes just days after a zookeeper was mauled to death by a black bear in India. The 23-year-old zookeeper was killed by a Himalayan black bear at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, according to the Times of India.

Tiger Woods slammed by women's group, Olympian Michael Johnson for tampon prank as Paige Spiranac defends pro golfer from cancel culture

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods is being raked over the coals for pulling off a tampon prank on a fellow golfer. A women's group and Olympian Michael Johnson slammed Woods for the friendly prank, but golfer Paige Spiranac defended the 15-time major champion against cancel culture.

During the first round of the Genesis Invitational on Thursday, Woods handed fellow golfer Justin Thomas a tampon. After Woods gave Thomas the tampon, they embraced and laughed about the joke as they walked off the tee.

Woods apologized for the prank after it went viral online.

"It was supposed to be all fun and games and obviously it hasn’t turned out that way," Woods told reporters on Friday.

"If I offended anybody, it was not the case, it was just friends having fun," Woods said. "As I said, if I offended anybody in any way, shape or form, I'm sorry. It was not intended to be that way. It was just we play pranks on one another all the time, and virally, I think this did not come across that way, but between us, it was – it’s different."

Despite the apology, Woods was lambasted by some for the prank between friends.

Kara Sugar, the CEO of the Women's Global Empowerment Fund, told TMZ that the prank was misogynistic, tone-deaf, and disrespectful to women and girls all over the world.

Sugar asked Woods if he believed that "periods are embarrassing or shameful or a sign of weakness?"

Olympian Michael Johnson bashed Woods for his apology.

"Apology starting with 'If I offended anyone' is no apology. But this is Tiger. Never been a leader and he's Teflon," Johnson wrote on Twitter. "Still heralded after all the mistakes so he's learned nothing. Media focus always on miraculous recovery. Never why the need for recovery."

Golfer Paige Spiranac came to the defense of Tiger.

"If anyone tries to cancel Tiger over this we riot. It's funny," Spiranac tweeted.

"Instead of women being outraged by Tiger and the tampon, I would love for them to actually provide ideas to help," she added. "For example I would have Tampex team up with the PGA tour to run a campaign where they provide free feminine products at golf courses. Most don’t actually have them and during long rounds it can be a problem for us."

Spiranac added, "It's interesting to see women outraged by Tiger slipping JT a tampon after out driving him but those same women will quickly tear me down for how I've decided to build my business. You can't pick and choose when to be a feminist."

Florida man mauled by tiger at popular airboat attraction

According to local authorities, a tiger mauled a Florida man at a popular airboat attraction on Tuesday.

Fox News reported that Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk, whose deputies responded to the tiger attack, said on Facebook that he was “having a hard time comprehending” the attack.

He wrote, “We are having a hard time comprehending this happening again but want to share this breaking news with you.”

Sheriff Rambosk’s deputies responded to a tiger attack at Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Tours in the Florida Everglades Tuesday afternoon.

“Preliminary (very) info indicates a tiger in an enclosure at [Wooten’s Airboats] was being fed by its caretaker when a 50-year-old male, an employee of Wooten’s who was not authorized to be with the tiger, entered the tiger’s enclosure,” the sheriff’s Facebook post explained. “The tiger attacked the man and caused injuries to both arms.”

“The man has been transported to the hospital by EMS,” it continued.

The big cat was not injured in the altercation, and its caretaker was able to safely contain it shortly after the incident.

The sheriff’s Facebook post said, “The tiger’s caretaker was able to safely contain the tiger. The tiger is not injured. We will update as we can.”

According to the company’s website, Wooten’s Airboats contains a small animal sanctuary that features two tigers, two lions, otters, turtles, a bask of crocodiles, and a congregation of alligators.

Fox News reported that in late December 2021, a sanitation worker was similarly mauled by a tiger at the Caribbean Gardens exhibit in the Naples Zoo after he entered an unauthorized area.

Reportedly, a sheriff’s deputy from Collier County shot the tiger — an 8-year-old named Eko — while his jaws were wrapped around the man’s arm. The animal, an endangered Malayan tiger, did not survive.

The janitorial employee, who was later identified as 26-year-old River Rosenquist, did not face criminal charges stemming from the death of the endangered animal.

Of this incident, the sheriff’s office said in a statement, “After a thorough investigation of the incident and after consulting experts in state and federal criminal law and the prosecution of same, it has been concluded that there are no applicable existing laws with which to charge Mr. River Rosenquist for his irresponsible acts that ultimately caused the death of Eko the tiger.”

“Simply put, there are no laws on the books that apply to this reckless act,” the statement continued, “We know this will be very difficult for everyone to understand. It is difficult for us to comprehend.”

Tiger Woods recovering from surgery after serious injuries. Authorities say car flipped multiple times.

Tiger Woods is recovering from surgery after suffering "significant orthopedic injuries to his lower right extremity," which were sustained in a Tuesday wreck.

Woods, 45, was in Los Angeles on Tuesday when he was involved in a single-car crash.

Following the lengthy Tuesday surgery, Woods was "awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room."

What are the details?

Dr. Anish Mahajan of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center issued a statement on Woods' condition, noting that Woods suffered multiple "open fractures" to his right leg.

"Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia," Mahajan said in part of the statement.

He also revealed that screws and pins were inserted in both Woods' foot and ankle during the surgery.

"Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins," the surgeon added. "Trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling."

The statement was published on Woods' Twitter page along with a message from Woods' team.

"We thank everyone for the overwhelming support and messages during this tough time," a portion of the statement added.

"[Woods] is currently awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room," the statement continued. "Thank you to the wonderful doctors and hospital staff at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and the Fire Department. Your support and assistance has been outstanding."

"There are no further updates at this time, and we continue to thank you for your well-wishes and privacy for him and his family," the statement concluded.

What else?

During the horrific accident, Woods was said to be awake and lucid.

ESPN reports, "The two-lane road on which the rollover occurred curves through upscale suburbs, and the northbound side that Woods was driving on descends steeply enough that signs warn trucks to use lower gears. The speed limit is 45 mph."

Sheriff Alex Villanueva of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that Woods' vehicle "appeared to first make contact with [a] median, then went across the two southbound lanes."

"It hit a curb, hit trees, and rolled over several times, with the vehicle ultimately settling several hundred feet from the road," ESPN reported. "There were no skid marks and no evidence of braking, and weather was not a factor."

Authorities did not divulge the specific speed at which they believed Woods was traveling but pointed out that Woods was driving at a "relatively greater speed than normal" when he first struck the median.

The airbags, Villanueva said, "gave him a cushion to survive the crash."

Deputy Carlos Gonzalez, who arrived first on the scene of Tuesday's crash, said that it's "very fortunate" that Woods "was able to come out of this alive."
