Republicans developing 'aggressive probes' of Biden admin if they win House in 2022, including COVID-19 origins and allegations the NSA spied on Tucker Carlson: Report
Early forecasts for the 2022 midterm elections look grim for Democrats. A recent ABC News/Washington Post survey projected Republicans to enjoy triumphant results in the 2022 midterms, giving the GOP the highest marks in 40 years. Should the GOP take back the House in 2022, Republicans will launch several "aggressive probes" into the Biden administration, according to a new report.
"House Republicans have begun mapping aggressive probes of the Biden administration if they win back the majority — including inquiries into the origins of COVID, a leak of IRS data about billionaires, and accusations the NSA spied on Tucker Carlson," Axios reported.
The report claimed that House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy would "make muscular use of majority powers for the last two years of President Biden's term if, as expected, the GOP wins the majority in next year's midterms."
Axios stated that McCarthy will direct "preservation notices" to Biden's Cabinet, which will order the departments to retain documents that could be requisitioned by Republicans for future oversight hearings.
There are reportedly multiple alleged matters of interest that Republicans could launch investigations into.
Republicans will purportedly introduce an exploratory inquiry into the origins of COVID-19, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention messaging about school closures from COVID-19 as well as mask mandates, Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on the FBI to investigate parents for "harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence" against local school board members, record numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, the deadly and chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, the allegations that the National Security Agency spied on Tucker Carlson, the leak of confidential Internal Revenue Service tax records of billionaires, and the short-lived $10 billion JEDI cloud computing contract involving the U.S. Defense Department, Microsoft, and Amazon.
"McCarthy plans to beef up staff, counsel and other resources to be ready to extract information beginning Day 1 if the GOP gets the gavel," the report noted.
