Georgia US Senate race between Walker and Warnock could head to runoff election

Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and GOP challenger Herschel Walker are competing in Georgia's widely-watched U.S. Senate race that will help determine the balance of power in Congress, but if neither candidate secures a majority of the vote, the Peach State contest will head to a December runoff.

Warnock entered office last year after winning a special election runoff. Walker, a former NFL player, had the backing of former President Donald Trump during the U.S. Senate contest.

Walker has been accused of paying for women to get abortions, though the pro-life figure has denied the allegations.

One woman, who alleged that Walker urged her to get an abortion and then reimbursed her for the procedure, is a registered Democrat and the mother of one of Walker's children, according to the Daily Beast. In an interview with ABC News Live anchor Linsey Davis, Walker denied the abortion-related allegations and accused the woman who made the allegations of lying. According to the New York Times, the woman said that Walker had "maybe only seen" the 10-year-old child "three times." Walker told Davis that the claim was "not true" and that it had been made "difficult" for him to see the child.

Walker has also denied the allegations of another woman who accused him of pressuring her to terminate a pregnancy and of paying for an abortion.

But while Walker has run as a pro-life candidate, Warnock, the senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, is openly pro-choice. Warnock's campaign website calls him "a pro-choice pastor" with "a profound reverence for life and an abiding respect for choice."

Democrats headed into the 2022 midterms with a precarious grip on power in the Senate, with the chamber divided 50-50 between 50 Republicans, 48 Democrats, and two independent lawmakers who caucus with the Democrats. Vice President Kamala Harris' role as tie-breaker has given Democrats the upper hand in the chamber.

White House ousts Dr. Mehmet Oz and Herschel Walker from President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition

The White House requested for Dr. Mehmet Oz and Herschel Walker to resign from the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition on Wednesday, or else face termination, according to CNN.

The outlet reported that according to a White House official, having federal candidates sit on presidential boards is not in keeping with Biden administration policy — the individual noted that letters to Oz and Walker on Wednesday asked them to step down by 6 p.m.

"On behalf of President Biden, I am writing to request your resignation as a Member of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. Please submit your resignation to me by the close of business today. Should we not receive your resignation, your position with the Council will be terminated effective 6:00 pm tonight. Thank you," a letter to Oz read.

I received this letter on behalf of @POTUS requesting I resign from the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. It\u2019s sad that he would politicize such an important issue like health. The doctor he should ask to resign is Dr. Fauci, for a multitude of obvious reasons.pic.twitter.com/fJaVLKVWOC

Oz is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania, while Walker is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia — both men are slated to compete in Republican primaries this May.

CNN reported that both men were appointed to the council by then-President Donald Trump in 2018 and again in 2020.

The outlet also said that individuals on the council are viewed as special government employees, who according to the Hatch Act, "may not be candidates in partisan elections" while carrying out official government business.

"Clearly, Joe Biden can’t be around anyone who doesn’t completely fall in line with his fear-mongering authoritarian one-size-fits-all COVID handling. I am proud of my service and will not resign," Oz tweeted.

"The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition (PCSFN) is a federal advisory committee that aims to promote healthy eating and physical activity for all Americans, regardless of background or ability," according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.

Thugs brutally beat up 61-year-old woman who needs walker to get around — even bash her with cooking pot. Oh, and they ripped off her walker, too.

Three women and a man ganged up on a 61-year-old woman who needs a walker to get around and brutally beat her on a Harlem sidewalk Tuesday evening, the New York Post reported.

What are the details?

Surveillance video showed the attackers repeatedly punching and stomping on the victim after she was tackled to the sidewalk.

At one point, one of the female attackers was seen beating the outnumbered woman with a cooking pot, police told the paper.

The beating — which took place at the corner of Eighth Avenue and West 151st Street around 8:20 p.m. — lasted at least 40 seconds, the Post noted.

For their efforts, the assailants rewarded themselves with credit cards, a whopping $22 in cash — as well as the walker, police told the paper.

The disabled victim was taken to a hospital where she was recovering from her injuries, police added to the Post.

Detectives were looking for the attackers, the paper said.
