MSNBC on Monday kept its flagship show Morning Joe off air to avoid "inappropriate" comments about Donald Trump on the progressive program in the wake of Saturday’s assassination attempt on the presumptive Republican nominee, according to CNN.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was confronted Wednesday about formal plans to impeach him just as he was blaming Republicans for the border crisis.
During an interview on MSNBC, Mayorkas was asked how the Biden administration will respond to Democratic mayors who are demanding the federal government step in and help them address migrant crises in their sanctuary cities. The secretary, however, responded by attacking Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).
"We have taken action on the border, and we’ve taken action with respect to the challenges that cities across the country are facing," Mayorkas said without naming a single "action."
"Let me let me identify one fundamental problem here," he continued, "and that is the fact that we have one governor in the state of Texas who is refusing to cooperate with other governors and other local officials and coordinate efforts to address a challenge that this country should stand united to address.
"And it's a remarkable failure of governance to refuse to cooperate with one’s fellow local and state officials," Mayorkas claimed.
But just as Mayorkas failed to provide a single example of the "action" the Biden administration has taken to stymie the border crisis, he didn't provide a single example of Abbott "refusing to cooperate" with other governors and federal officials to handle the border crisis.
Mayorkas went on to blame the Trump administration for the growing backlog of migrants who will wait years before their asylum cases are heard in an immigration court.
At the same time that Mayorkas was abdicating any responsibility for the border crisis, MSNBC host Willie Geist confronted Mayorkas with news that broke around the same time as the interview: the House Homeland Security Committee is moving forward with efforts to impeach Mayorkas for his role in the border crisis.
"I know you have to run, Mr. Secretary, quickly before you do. We’re just getting news this morning from Punchbowl News that the House Homeland Security Committee is formally moving ahead with impeachment proceedings against you with the first hearing to be held a week from today," Geist informed Mayorkas.
Mayorkas responded that he will cooperate with the inquiry. The first full committee hearing for the impeachment proceedings will take place next Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Former secretary of state and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said over the weekend that she believes former President Donald Trump will run for president once again in 2024.
Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, added that if that happened, it could mean the "end of democracy" as we know it.
Clinton told NBC News' Willie Geist that she believes Trump is absolutely gearing up to run for the White House once more.
"If I were a betting person right now, I'd say Trump is going to run again," she told Sunday's "Today" host. "He seems to be setting himself up to do that, and if he's not held accountable, he gets to do it again."
She added that his winning could very well mean the end of democracy in America.
"I think that could be the end of our democracy," she insisted. "Not to be too pointed about it, but I want people to understand that this could be a make-or-break point. If he or someone of his ilk were once again to be elected president, especially if he had a Congress that would do his bidding, you will not recognize our country."
The former president — who left the White House in January — has not officially announced whether he plans to run for the highest office in the land once more.
Elsewhere during the interview, Clinton said that she has felt guilt over Trump's White House tenure.
"I tried to warn people," she complained. "I tried to make the case that this was really dangerous — the people he was allied with, what they were saying, what he might do. I do think but for Jim Comey and the stunt he pulled 10 days before the election, I would have won."
Former FBI Director Jim Comey sent a letter to Congress the week before the 2016 presidential election and announced that the agency was reinvigorating its investigation into Clinton's email server scandal.
"I feel terrible about not stopping him and the people around him, but I feel like now everybody can see for themselves what kind of leader he is," she told Geist.
The former secretary of state added that in any case, if he runs, his die-hard supporters will rally.
"Clearly, there were people who liked what they saw, despite what I see as the real dangers to our country," she said. "They turned out and voted for him. And he's trying to get it set up so that will happen again for him, even as he loses, as he did twice the popular vote."
She concluded, "Are we going to give in to all these lies and this disinformation and this organized effort to undermine our rule of law and our institutions, or are we going to stand up to it?"
