Bongino: It's 'grotesque media malfeasance' to ignore the Papadopoulos setup
September 10, 2018
Monday on "Fox & Friends," Dan Bongino, host of CRTV's Dan Bongino Show podcast, slammed the media coverage of former Trump presidential campaign associate George Papadopoulos and the Spygate scandal.
Over the weekend, Papadopoulos gave an interview on CNN in which he described his meeting with Cambridge professor and FBI informant Stefan Halper after Halper sent him an unsolicited email. During their meeting, according to Papadopoulos, it appeared that Halper attempted to record their conversation, asking several questions about Russian ties to the Trump campaign.
"There's no question in my mind" that Papadopoulos was set up, Bongino said.
"This is one of the most grotesque acts of media malfeasance I've ever seen — the ignoring of the Papadopoulos setup," he added.
"A CIA-connected spy, Stefan Halper, working for the United States government, was probing Barack Obama's administration's political opponents in Donald Trump. Think about that. A government spy — these facts aren't in dispute — was making contact with the political opposition of a sitting president and the media seems almost entirely uninterested in the details of this story outside of covering it from 30,000 feet."
Last week, Papadopoulos was sentenced to 14 days in federal prison for making false statements to the FBI during the Justice Department's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and collusion with the Trump campaign. He pleaded guilty to lying about meetings in London with Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud, in which Mifsud informed Papadopoulos that the Russians possessed stolen emails from the Hillary Clinton campaign. Papadopoulos testified that he did not tell any Trump campaign officials about his meetings with Mifsud or the stolen emails.
