GOP Rep. Jim Jordan: There's a different set of standards for the ruling class

On Monday, Congressman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News' Sandra Smith that the American people are being driven "crazy" by the different set of standards applied to members of the ruling political class.

"There's one set of rules for us regular folk, and a different set if you're part of the politically connected class like Clinton and Comey and Lynch," Jordan said in an interview about Republican lawmakers' demands for criminal investigations of former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and for greater transparency from the Department of Justice.

Jordan said Comey has "messed this thing up from the get-go."

"I think all throughout this process he has been wrong," he said.

"One of the questions we have is on the Michael Cohen raid: Was [Attorney General Jeff Sessions] consulted? Did [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein actually talk to the attorney general?"

Jordan dodged a question about what should happen if Sessions was not consulted, saying he should have been consulted before the FBI raided Cohen's office and seized his communications. Cohen, President Trump's personal attorney, is under federal investigation for potential bank fraud and campaign finance violations.

He also said the relationship between Congress and the Department of Justice is "not where it needs to be."

"We have been asking for documents for five months now and today we received approximately 6,000 documents," Jordan said. He recounted a meeting he and Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., had with attorneys from the DOJ, in which they could not answer the lawmakers' questions about the scope and time frame for turnover of all the documents requested by Congress.

"So that's not really confidence-inspiring," Jordan said.
