Liberals flock aboard the Trump-Russia ‘treason’ train

Yesterday, The Washington Post ran a story about President Trump (legally) sharing information about terrorists with the Russian foreign minister. While there can be debate about whether or not that was a good and/or prudent thing to do, or may be a cause for concern, it is not treason.

The president, by law, is the ultimate decider on what is and isn’t classified, for better or worse. That didn’t stop the Left from acting completely unhinged and jumping on the "treason" train.

These are the same folks who spent four years ranting about how Benghazi wasn’t a big deal, how hiding classified information in a closet server hooked up to the internet wasn’t a big deal, or any other numerous scandals of the Obama administration wasn’t a big deal. Oh, that’s right — these folks think Obama was scandal-free.

Here are some of the top treason-train tweets. First up: celebrities desperate to feel loved.

Here’s what a guy who often plays cops, military- and espionage-types on TV had to say.

Next up is the producer of ABC’s smash progressive hit, “Modern Family.” The North Korea thing is just wagging the dog, y’all.

Oh, here’s that “complicit in treason” line again. This time from a contributor to Samantha Bee’s “comedy” show.

Here’s the executive producer for Ellen DeGeneres’ show.

Since Cher was last relevant during the Cold War, it is unsurprising she still thinks the Russians are still the Soviet Union.

Ron Perlman goes after one of the few outspoken Hollywood conservatives, James Woods, with this tweet. These folks really think this is treason … I wonder what Ron Perlman thinks of Bradley “Chelsea” Manning?

Next up, we get the media-types. Who are just as breathless in their portrayal. First up is lifelong progressive, now “conservative” Washington Post blogger — and A-grade conspiracy theorist — Jennifer Rubin.

Then there’s The New York Times’ Paul Krugman, king of discredited economic theories. He apparently doesn’t understand national security, either. On a good note, at least, he calls it “borderline treason” — so he can keep the treason train running on time without using the actual word.

And here’s someone who used to write for The Wall Street Journal.

As a closing thought, here’s what the literal definition of “treason” is, from Dictionary.com.

Treason -noun

1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.

2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.

3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.

And here’s the definition from 18 U.S. Code § 2381, which deals with what is legally treason in the United States.

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Under neither of those definitions did Trump’s actions in giving the Russians information on a terror threat rise to the level of treason. Clumsiness, maybe, but treason he definitely did not.
