Look at your fate, America

Behold, America, what an utterly stupid fate awaits if you don’t turn things around quick and realize that you’re about to make every existential mistake they’re currently making in Europe as we speak.

The scene: The European Court of Human Rights, which is just the sort of progressive contraption that had the Brits attempting to Brexit their way back to sanity in 2016. Because it does things like rule that defaming the Prophet Muhammed “goes beyond the permissible limits of an objective debate” and “could stir up prejudice and put at risk religious peace” and thus exceeds the “permissible limits” of freedom of expression.

If this is the kind of ruling this “court” produces after the Charlie Hebdo assassinations in 2015, when Islamists murdered 12 people at the satirical magazine because of cartoons they published about Muhammed and Islam, then we may simply be dealing with an invincible level of self-loathing by people begging for a new, unforgiving master.

The particular “crime” the European Court of Human Rights considered in this case was a woman who held two seminars entitled “Basic Information on Islam” that pointed out that Muhammed had a child bride. Which, in fact, he did.

Welcome to Europe, where cartoons can get you killed and uttering historical facts inconvenient to cultural Marxists can get you prosecuted as a public enemy.

But at least there’s a strong force for good fighting back against this in Europe, called the Catholic Church. Oh, what’s that you say? In between bouts of explaining away years worth of covering for sex crimes, the Vatican is trying to reach Millennials by … oh dear Lord Jesus, come quickly.

Let me try to get this out past my gag reflex. The Vatican has spent two years and $500,000 to develop “Follow JC Go,” a knockoff of “Pokemon Go” that lets players be part of an “evangelization team” where players have to, according to The Guardian website, keep track of their digital nutrition, hydration, and “prayer count” by collecting special objects, saying prayers for the sick in hospitals, and going into a church whenever they pass one.

Matthew 28 called and said, “No, no, no, no, no. That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.”

Your culture is being taken over by a combination of unapologetic religious zealots – of both the progressive and Islamic varieties – and what you have to offer in response is an app? Really?

That, to put it kindly, is not a remotely serious effort. Europe, in terms of its tenuous relationship to the things that made Western Civilization great and transformational, is nearly dead man walking.

So where does that leave America, then? Our churches are more full, but they are largely full of crap as well. And while Islamic lies aren’t pounding at our public square doors, transgender ones seem to be doing just fine.

Perhaps we’re already just as gone as Europe without really knowing it. Tyranny is tyranny, but the one that seems to be hardest to shake is the self-imposed version. The one where you believe that you are still the shining city on a hill compared to everyone else but you have been hollowed out to the point of being a red-light district of addictions and ignorance on the inside.

That’s what academia, Hollywood, and the press are shooting for as Election 2018 lies just around the bend. Without apology. Europe’s spiritual and intellectual anarchy can’t come fast enough for them.

And it’s why, for the first time in a very long time, I’m considering voting straight Republican to keep such vandals at bay for just a little while longer. And I loathe the Republicans with the blazing heat of a thousand suns. But you know what’s even hotter than that?

Hell.
