Mark Meadows: Rosenstein must 'resign immediately'

House Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows, R-N.C., is calling for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to step down, following his refusal to cooperate with lawmakers.

Thursday, Meadows said Rosenstein should "resign immediately."

Republican lawmakers want Rosenstein to give sworn testimony about reports that he considered secretly recording President Donald Trump. Rosenstein has so far refused to testify and has withheld requested documents from congressional oversight officials. Rosenstein has denied suggesting that Trump should be recorded.

However, ex-FBI lawyer James Baker claims that he took news of Rosenstein's suggestion seriously. On Thursday, Baker testified to members of Congress.

Meadows is one of several GOP lawmakers who have expressed frustration with Rosenstein's refusal to testify before Congress while he is willing to give media interviews.

Earlier, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News Rosenstein is "obligated" to testify before Congress.

“The fact that Rod Rosenstein was a no-show last week is something that is just not right,” Jordan said. “He is obligated, as a guy who was Senate-confirmed. When the chairman of the committee that has jurisdiction over your agency asks you to come to Congress and testify, you are obligated to do that and you’re supposed to do it under oath, and he was a no-show, yet he’s got time to talk to the press about the Mueller investigation.”

Meadows and Jordan have both previously introduced articles of impeachment against Rosenstein that were set aside by Congress.
