Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., deplored President Trump as a man who lacks “principles and beliefs” in a recent interview with Esquire magazine.
“I don’t agree with the way he’s conducting his presidency, obviously,” McCain said.
“He’s an individual that unfortunately is not anchored by a set of principles. I think he’s a person who takes advantage of situations. He was successful as a builder, an entrepreneur, and all that. But I don’t think he has the fundamental underpinnings of principles and beliefs.”
“I don’t think there was any doubt about his views toward me. But I’m a loyal Republican,” he added.
Those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Senator McCain has some gall to insist he’s a loyal Republican after trashing conservative Republicans for years and billing himself as a “maverick” who crosses party lines. This is the senator, after all, who single-handedly killed “skinny repeal” of Obamacare, preventing Republicans from even partially keeping their seven-year promise to repeal Obamacare.
What are McCain’s principles? On the campaign trail, he runs as a conservative, advocating for strong border security and extolling how he is “leading the fight” to repeal Obamacare. In office, he betrays conservative voters by pushing for amnesty for illegal immigrants and killing everything that even comes close to Obamacare repeal.
Who is McCain loyal to? Not to conservative voters. Not to the Republican party platform. Rather, McCain is loyal to himself, which is why he continually is featured in the media bashing his fellow Republicans, to the adoration of liberal pundits eager to see Republicans devour each other.
