Agent Peter Strzok has been fired by the FBI, the Washington Post reported Monday. The order to fire Strzok came from FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich Friday, Strozk's lawyer told the Post.
Strzok was a lead agent on both the Hillary Clinton email criminal investigation and the Russian interference counterintelligence investigation during the 2016 election. He came under heavy criticism after a Department of Justice inspector general investigation discovered he had sent vehemently anti-Trump text messages to his mistress, FBI lawyer Lisa Page. Inspector general Michael Horowitz's report showed that Strzok was clearly biased, at one point pledging to "stop" Trump from becoming president.
In the summer of 2017, after Horowitz informed special counsel Robert Mueller of Strzok's text messages, Mueller removed Strzok from his probe into collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 election. In June of this year, Strzok was escorted out of the FBI building and relieved of his work duties. Now he is officially fired.
