WaPost calls Levin, others ‘extreme right’ after terror attack

Conservative critics of an immigration program sponsored by Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and reportedly used by the suspected New York terror attacker Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov to enter the United States were smeared as right-wing extremists by the Washington Post Wednesday morning.

LevinTV host Mark Levin, Dr. Sebastian Gorka, and other conservative critics of the State Department’s diversity visa lottery program were labeled as “extreme right” in a headline from the Post that read, “Extreme right gins up a culprit for N.Y. terror attack: Chuck Schumer.”

The headline has since been changed without an explanation.

The diversity visa lottery, also known as the green card lottery, was a provision of the Immigration Act of 1990 sponsored by Sen. Schumer and signed into law by President George H.W. Bush. The program issues 50,000 visas annually to immigrants from countries that have low emigration rates to the United States. Intended to admit more “underrepresented” minorities to the United States, the program has become a vehicle by which tens of thousands of green cards are issued to individuals coming from hotbeds of terrorism across the globe.

Sen. Schumer created the provision for “diversity immigrants” from “low-admission” countries as a member of the House of Representatives in 1990. His proposals were adopted into the larger immigration bill.

Conservatives like Michelle Malkin, Daniel Horowitz, and Mark Levin have criticized the program as detrimental to U.S. national security for years.

LevinTV host Mark Levin appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” Thursday to explain the problem with this immigration policy.

“This diversity visa program should be gutted,” Levin said. “The purpose of immigration, historically, is to improve the United States, is to benefit the United States, not to ensure diversity from the foreigners coming into this country, not to ensure that certain countries are well represented.”

The idea that United States immigration policies should benefit the United States, according to the Washington Post, is extreme.

President Donald Trump picked up on conservative criticism of the green card lottery and called out Sen. Schumer by name on Twitter, demanding tougher immigration laws and a change to a merit-based immigration system.

Sen. Schumer responded to the president in a written statement issued Wednesday morning.

“I have always believed and continue to believe that immigration is good for America,” Schumer said. “President Trump, instead of politicizing and dividing America, which he always seems to do at times of national tragedy, should be focusing on the real solution — anti-terrorism funding — which he proposed cutting in his most recent budget.

“I’m calling on the President to immediately rescind his proposed cuts to this vital anti-terrorism funding.”

Schumer is, of course, an unflappable hypocrite. After the Las Vegas attack, the Democratic minority leader politicized the attack and demanded immediate action on gun control “to make our country a safer place to live.”

But were there headlines from the Washington Post about the “extreme Left” targeting the NRA and President Trump? Nope.
