Globe fail … The Boston Globe ran a story today about Elizabeth Warren’s ancestry that was obviously spoon-fed to it by Warren’s team. The Globe claimed a DNA test proved that Warren had Native American ancestry 6-10 generations ago. It originally reported that meant Warren had as low as a 1/512 claim of native ancestry. After publication, the Globe had to correct its math to say that a tenth-generation relationship meant that Warren had as low as 1/1024 native blood.
Warren’s initial claim back in 2012 was that her great-great-great-grandmother was Cherokee. The Globe made that point, saying that fact may “provide fodder for Warren’s critics.” For reference, great-great-great-grandmother is a fifth-generation relationship or 1/32, outside the range shown by the DNA test, which is from 1/64 to 1/1024.
What’s even worse is that Warren may have less Native American blood than the average American of European descent. In a 2014 article based upon data from 23 and Me, the New York Times reported that the average European American has 0.18 percent Native American ancestry. For comparison, 1/64 is 1.5 percent, and 1/1024 is 0.097 percent.
The Globe ran a front-page story that shows Warren statistically is about as Native American as any American of European ancestry you’d pull off the street at random.
Hallmarks of a gift-wrapped story … Breitbart News’ John Hayward outlines how this story has all the hallmarks of a gift-wrapped story from the Warren PR team to the Globe. Here’s the meat of his excellent tweet thread:
And why did they get it backward? Because Warren's PR shop handed them a pre-packaged "news" story and the media ran it without question. Not a single editor stopped and said, "Wait, this actually proves she doesn't meet any possible standard for Indian ancestry."

Hayward goes further into detail about how this follows the normal template for the media regurgitating without critical analysis things presented on a platter by liberals. This was an in-kind campaign donation to the Warren for President campaign, not a reported news story.
