CNN’s Cillizza’s blind trust … In the wake of CNN confirming what we’ve known for months, that the Obama administration surveilled people in Trump’s orbit, CNN’s Chris Cillizza was quick to publish a story arguing that Trump still had no evidence that his wiretapping claim was right. Cillizza admitted that Trump’s conversations may have been caught, but said if they had nothing to do with Russia they would have been “minimized” under FISA — that is, not shared with investigators. That is a blind trust Cillizza is placing in a former administration that routinely unmasked conversations.
Fast-forward a day … Just one day after Cillizza posted his defense of the Obama administration, it was revealed that former Obama U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power alone “averaged more than one request for every working day in 2016.” Cillizza’s point, that the government under the Obama administration would have treated that information as it should be under the law, is suspect.
That’s the real scandal … Investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson — who left CBS news after CBS handcuffed her investigations into the Obama administration — wrote about the real scandal here yesterday. Attkisson opined that “it looks like Obama did spy on Trump, just as he apparently did to me.” The Obama administration had a history of spying on those it considered political opponents. Remember, even Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., thought that he had been spied on.
There is real evidence that the Obama administration not only used the IRS to punish political opponents, but also used the surveillance state to spy on them. For all the talk about how Russia may have legally or illegally affected the outcome of the U.S. election, the media ignore the other story, far more damaging to our republican form of government. In free nations, those in power don’t spy on political opponents. That is where the outrage should lie.

A national security threat … Politico published an op-ed from former Obama director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Matthew Olsen, and 2009 West Point graduate Benjamin Haas. It makes the stunning claim that the Electoral College is a national security threat. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the elites are so upset about the 2016 election that they are outlandishly claiming that one of the bedrocks of the balance of powers, which ensures states have a more equal choice in the selection of the president, hurts national security. It’s insanity.
Full-court Electoral College press … Despite what Hillary Clinton sycophant Peter Daou believes, the MSM was completely in the bag for Clinton during the 2016 election. Now, almost 11 months after her stunning defeat, they are still carrying her water. This time they are engaged in a full-court press attempt to get rid of the Electoral College. This has been a central point Clinton has been making as she tours the country selling her book-long whine session, “What Happened.”
MSNBC anchor melts down … Mediaite obtained an 8-minute video of MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell acting like a jerk to his staff. O’Donnell can be seen berating production crews for everything from not cutting a SOT — a video package — correctly to errant noises in his earpiece. Everyone has bad days. However, CNN’s Brian Stelter — in a rare case of media criticism — reports that guests who have been on O’Donnell’s shows say this is his normal demeanor. O’Donnell has apologized. I just want to take a moment to say that even though Massachusetts natives, like myself, are called Massholes, this series of outbursts by native Bostonian O’Donnell is extreme, even for us.
Stelter’s cryptic tweet … Yesterday evening, Stelter tweeted: “The First Amendment does not include the word ‘truth.’” The trolls had a field day, as the tweet was without context. Many opined that is why the biased Stelter is still employed. I’m wondering if maybe there is a new 12-step program for biased journalism, and this was Stelter’s attempt at the first step: admitting he has a problem.
