Is today the day? … The Washington Examiner’s Byron York is reporting that the House Intelligence Committee may vote as early as 5 p.m. ET today to release the Nunes memo, which is said to outline abuses by the Obama administration in investigations of Donald Trump. York then says: “At that point, House rules call for the committee to await a decision by the president on whether he supports or opposes release of the memo. President Trump has made clear he supports release, so the memo could be made public quickly.”
Could today’s possible vote be why media types are suddenly ratcheting up the attacks on Nunes and other Republicans who have been talking about the memo?
Globe hit job … In what is being marketed as “analysis,” the Boston Globe’s Matt Viser has a full frontal attack on those who are calling for the memo’s release and questioning the role of the FBI and DOJ. The key line is: “The growing number of Republicans turning toward such theories — half-baked, partially baked, or baked not at all — comes amid reports that President Trump tried to fire Mueller in June.”
Got it? You see, Trump reportedly — according to anonymous sources — tried to fire Robert Mueller, which obviously means the FBI and DOJ under President Obama didn’t abuse investigative powers when it came to Trump. Viser then tries to paint as conspiracy theorists anyone who thinks what is in the Nunes memo — which has not been released — may be true.
Viser should know better. He works for the Boston Globe and knows how the FBI protected crime boss Whitey Bulger. To attack those who say the FBI may have been corrupt while knowing what the FBI did to protect Bulger takes a special kind of bias.
Not just Viser … It isn’t just Viser and the Globe ramping up the attacks today.
As I finish writing this, news is breaking that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is stepping down, and Fox News’ Chad Pergram is reporting that FBI Director Wray viewed the memo on Sunday. That’s an interesting coincidence. Expect the media to ratchet up their attacks on anyone casting doubt on the FBI or DOJ. The next 24 hours may be a wild ride.

Lowest-rated Grammys ever? … Before the Grammy Awards even started last night, it was billed as a political event. No doubt that caused a lot of people, who are tired of left-wing entertainers denigrating their beliefs, to tune out. The ratings for the Grammys are in. Deadline Hollywood’s Dominic Patten said the numbers were down from 2017’s broadcast. Patten added, “By way down, I mean a just over 20% decline from last year to what looks to be an all-time low for the ceremony.”
“Light-hearted” … Both Donald Trump Jr. and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley took offense to the skit that showed Hillary Clinton reading an audition for the “Fire and Fury” audio book. Agency France-Presse’s wire story on the fracas called the skit “light-hearted political commentary.” Really? Imagine Hillary Clinton was president and the Country Music Awards had a skit where Donald Trump read from “Clinton Cash.” Would that be “light-hearted” or “sour grapes whining” from a failed candidate? Media bias is often subtle, as it is here. Instead of calling it a “comedy skit,” the use of “light-hearted political commentary” is editorializing and biased.
Media types react … As the Grammys turned political at the outset of the broadcast, journalists decided to weigh in on Twitter. Here are a couple reactions:
“Anti-abortion” … Last night, Joy Villa wore a pro-life dress to the Grammy Awards. But that isn’t how media organizations portrayed it. Take, for example, this headline from The Hill: “Trump supporter wears anti-abortion dress to Grammys.” Yes, by wearing that dress, Villa is voicing opposition to abortion and stating that she is pro-life. If, on the other hand, a “pro-choice” artist wore something promoting NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League), I doubt that The Hill or any other outlet would term the dress “pro-abortion.”
