Shocking: Boeing whistleblower found dead from 'self-inflicted gunshot wound,' but his lawyers say there is 'no indication' he would take his life

Boeing planes have come under intense scrutiny as more and more issues with aircraft arise.

“Every other day I see a headline — and it’s usually United Airlines, by the way,” that reads “Boeing flight has a problem,” says Sara Gonzales.

While planes malfunctioning is certainly deeply concerning, so is this: “A former Boeing employee known for raising concerns about the firm's production standards has been found dead in the United States,” reports Sara.

John Barnett worked for Boeing for 32 years but retired in 2017.

“In the days before his death, he was actually involved in a lawsuit giving whistleblower testimony against Boeing,” says Sara, adding that reports indicate that Barnett’s death is a result of a “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

“In 2019 [Barnett] told BBC that under-pressure workers had been deliberately fitting substandard parts to aircraft on the production line. He said that he had uncovered serious problems with oxygen systems, which could mean one in four breathing masks would not work in an emergency. He said soon after starting work in South Carolina, he had become concerned that the push to get new aircraft built meant the assembly process was rushed and safety was compromised.”

Boeing, of course, denied all the allegations.

“I think we're seeing who was correct in that analysis, and I don't believe that it was Boeing,” says Sara.

Quoting Barnett’s lawyers, she reads, “John was in the midst of a deposition in his whistleblower retaliation case, which finally was nearing the end. He was in very good spirits and really looking forward to putting this phase of his life behind him and moving on. We didn't see any indication he would take his own life. No one can believe it.”

However, according to the reports, “there was a suicide note” found next to Barnett.

“A hotel staff member found him after someone contacted the hotel for a wellness check on him. He had his right pointer finger remaining on the trigger with a gunshot wound near his right temple,” says Sara, citing reports.

“I don’t know if you still hold on to the gun after you do that,” she says skeptically, adding that Boeing is a “very powerful” company.”

“Let's say this,” says Eric July of Rippaverse Comics. “If there was to be a company that could make things go away, it would for sure be them.”

Body of missing Michigan doctor discovered under ice in frozen pond

The dead body of a missing Michigan doctor was discovered beneath the ice of a frozen pond, according to the Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety.

Dr. Bolek Payan had last been seen departing Henry Ford Jackson Hospital on December 22, the department noted in a December 24 Facebook post.

"His vehicle was found at his residence in Leoni Township, but he has had no contact with his employer, family or friends," the post noted.

Divers found the man's body in a pond on Tuesday, according to another Facebook post from the department.

"At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, divers recovered the body of Dr. Payan from a pond on the property near his residence," the Tuesday Facebook post stated. "Yesterday, detectives gained access into the home video camera system, which was password protected, and observed Dr. Payan leave the residence on foot on 12/22/22, in the mid-afternoon."

Detectives think that the man had likely passed away even before he was reported missing.

"The property had been checked with K-9 dogs, drones and on foot. After not locating anything on land, holes were cut in the ice of a pond on the property yesterday and divers located Dr. Payan's body under the ice today. Detectives believe Dr. Payan would have been deceased, prior to when he was reported missing, due to the weather conditions on the day that he left his residence and the fact that he was in the water. The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy and toxicology testing, which will aid in further investigating this incident," the post noted

"We would like to thank the Jackson County Dive Team, Michigan Search and Rescue, J-DART, the neighbors, and the public for their assistance during this incident. Our thoughts are with Dr. Payan’s family and friends," the department added.

An obituary describes Payan as a psychiatrist, and a profile about Payan on henryford.com lists psychiatry as his specialty.

Former Mississippi state rep killed outside same home where her sister-in-law was found dead

A former Mississippi state lawmaker was fatally shot over the weekend outside the same burned-out home where her sister-in-law was found dead following an arson fire after Christmas.

What are the details?

Ashley Henley, a Republican who represented Southaven from 2016 to 2019, was found with a gunshot wound to the back of her head in Saturday. Her body was discovered by investigators after her husband called a neighbor out of concern when she seemed to be gone for too long while cleaning up the property where his sister died.

Henley and her husband, Brandon Henley, have pressed local law enforcement on the investigation surrounding the death of Brandon's sister, Kristina Michelle Jones, whose body was found Dec. 26 inside a trailer owned by Brandon and Kristina's father.

Following Jones' death, Brandon and Ashley put up a billboard-type shrine of sorts outside the property, insisting that Jones had been murdered and calling for justice.

"I feel that if something would have been done sooner this would have never happened," Brandon told WJTV-TV following his wife's death.

Brandon told the outlet that he believes both his wife and his sister were killed by the same person, and that the family "had just days earlier begun re-examining his sister's death."

"The fire investigators did confirm it was arson and the crime lab did confirm that there was no smoke in her lungs when she was found, so she was dead before the fire," Brandon said of his sister's death.

He said of the Yalobusha County Sheriff's Office, "I'd like for them to do their job because this is the second person someone down there has taken from me." He added, "My son doesn't have a mother."

The Washington Post reported that the Henleys had launched their own investigation into Jones' death, and that Ashley's friend and former colleague state Rep. Dan Eubanks (R) said Ashley "had grown increasingly frustrated in recent weeks and feared that Jones' case would go cold."

Eubanks told WLBT-TV:

"I really believe that what happened was, she continued to pursue certain leads and she ruffled some feathers and somebody wanted to put an end to that search. It's obvious that it was an execution-style murder. Somebody wanted her dead. They didn't rob her, they didn't take any of her stuff. … They killed her and just moved on."
