'The loss of DEI-Phobic companies is my gain': Mark Cuban defends diversity programs as good business practice

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban defended diversity, equity, and inclusion as a business strategy in a thread of comments where he explained his interpretation of what the controversial programs mean.

Cuban was responding on X to owner Elon Musk who had described DEI as "racism" the day before.

"DEI is just another word for racism. Shame on anyone who uses it," Musk wrote in a post on X. "Discrimination on the basis of race, which DEI does, is literally the definition of racism," he noted in another post.

Directly replying to Musk, the tech mogul explained what he thought defined each portion of DEI.

For diversity, Cuban simply stated that businesses should look to hire diverse work forces to "put your business in the best possible position to succeed."

"You may not agree, but I take it as a given that there are people of various races, ethnicities, orientation, etc that are regularly excluded from hiring consideration," Cuban continued. He went on to conclude that simply extending hiring searches to include such people means more qualified individuals would be found.

"The loss of DEI-Phobic companies is my gain," he added.

Let me help you out and give you my thoughts on DEI\n1. Diversity\nGood businesses look where others don't, to find the employees that will put your business in the best possible position to succeed. \nYou may not agree, but I take it as a given that there are people of various\xe2\x80\xa6

"Treating people equally does not mean treating them the same," Cuban said for equity. The billionaire then explained that employers should put their employees "in a position to succeed."

"Recognize their differences and play to their strengths where ever possible."

It is important to note that typical DEI programs do not define equity as allowing employees to succeed; it is usually related to providing advantages based on race or other immutable characteristics, theoretically to make up for prior alleged injustices.

For example, the National Association of Colleges and Employers describes equity in part as attempting to "identify and overcome intentional and unintentional barriers arising from bias or systemic structures."

Inclusion, which is often used to justify the hiring of an employee based on their race or sexual orientation, was described by Cuban as "making all employees, no matter who they are or how they see themselves, feel comfortable in their environment and able to do their jobs."

The "Shark Tank" star concluded by throwing to the replies to his thread, seemingly implying that DEI programs are needed due to certain "feelings" that are expressed in the workplace:

5. So what's the conclusion ?
If you don't think there is a need for DEI and it doesn't create a competitive advantage for your company, just look at the @x posts/replies/quotes below.

These are the same people that work for you or are your co-workers. Everyone is…

Many notable respondents did not agree with Cuban's framing of the DEI definitions:

"Mark you are defining words in a way nobody else does, and certainly not how they put them into practice," said commentator Dave Rubin.

"Unclear if you're being dishonest here, redefining words to win a twitter argument, or if you truly just have no idea how DEI has worked throughout the country. but 'equity' in practice has meant race-based hiring quotas and bonuses. it is evil," added Mike Solana, editor in chief of tech brand Pirate Wires.

@mcuban @stclairashley Mark you are defining words in a way nobody else does, and certainly not how they put them into practice.

New children's book 'Elephants Are Not Birds' is 'unapologetic rebuke' of transgender agenda

Woke children's books such as pro-transgender "I Am Jazz," race-baiting "Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness," and "The GayBCs" have been all the rage among leftist teachers, parents, and schools.

But there's a new title in town that you can bet the woke set won't want anywhere near their tykes — but it very well may be just what more conservative adults prefer their kids set their eyes upon.

It's called "Elephants Are Not Birds" — and conservative activist author Ashley St. Clair calls it an "unapologetic rebuke" of the transgender agenda.

— Ashley St. Clair 🇺🇸 (@stclairashley) 1627159751.0

It's the first title from Brave Books, which the New York Post reported will focus exclusively on stories for kids and offer parents "a conservative alternative to the current cultural activism that our children are being taught in schools, in the entertainment they watch and the books they read," the publisher's website says.

More from the paper:

Company CEO Trent Talbot, who had his first child a little more than a year ago, conceived of Brave Books when, he said, he started to notice "that there is a real war going on for the hearts and minds of our kids. And everywhere I looked was propaganda," the Montgomery, Texas-based dad told The Post.

An ophthalmologist by trade, Talbot pointed to Ibram X. Kendi's picture book, "Antiracist Baby," which urges parents and kids to "make equity a reality," as content that needs a counterpoint.

"Once my eyes were open, I was seeing it everywhere, and I couldn't unsee it," Talbot told the Post. "I thought there was a need for books that could help parents teach the values they hold dear."

What is 'Elephants Are Not Birds' about?

The paper said "Elephants are Not Birds" is about an elephant named Kevin who likes to sing and then is convinced by a vulture — named Culture — that he actually must be a bird since he sings so well.

But despite Culture bestowing a beak and pair of wings upon Kevin, he just isn't able to do life as well by trying to be a bird, the Post noted.

"The book is an unapologetic rebuke of the transgender acceptance and the growing number of young people identifying as trans," St. Clair tweeted.

"You get special attention now in the classroom if you say, 'Hey, my name is not Billy, it's Amanda,'" the 22-year-old author told the paper. "I am going to have a little boy in November, and it's scary to think he could come home and say, 'My friends all identify as something else, and that's how I feel' and have my son crying because he's not put on hormone replacement therapy."

How are leftists reacting to the book?

As you might expect, leftists are popping blood vessels far and wide over "Elephants Are Not Birds" and doing their snarky best to rip it to shreds:

  • "This is BEYOND VILE!" Twitter user The Big Gay Al wrote about the book. "I assumed it was satire but it appears not."
  • Another commenter tweeted that the book is "hate speech" and "evil."
  • "How about we support and accept humans for who they are and want to be," another user noted.
  • "I was like, this has to be parody but then I scrolled down to see 'elephants are not birds' and I stopped thinking this was a parody. Smh," one commenter tweeted.
  • "Motherf***ers are going to have blood on their hands," another user declared.

Anything else?

"Elephants are Not Birds" is available only on the Brave Books website through an offer to parents of book per month for a $12.99 annual subscription, the Post said.

Other titles in the pipeline include, "The Island of Free Ice Cream" by conservative figure Jack Posobiec which will tackle communism, the paper noted, adding that Brave Books "is also courting Congressman Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), to write 'Fame, Blame, and the Raft of Shame' about cancel culture."

Megan Fox rips into the 'burn a witch at the stake mentality' over the outrage after she called Trump a 'legend'

Hollywood actress Megan Fox lashed out sarcastically at the "uneducated" critics trying to cancel her over comments she made about former President Donald Trump.

Fox made the comments Monday on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show where she recalled how Trump was received by UFC fans at the UFC 264 showdown in Las Vegas.

"I was in a row with [Justin] Bieber and Trump was also in my row," the 35-year-old "Transformers" star said on the show.

"He was a legend. That arena was very supportive of Trump when he came in," she added. "I've never seen anything like that before. It was crazy."

Critics excoriated her on social media for daring to say anything that could be taken as positive for Trump.

Some supporters of the former president also circulated the video as evidence that Fox was a Trump fan:

On Thursday, the actress made it clear that she was only describing how Trump was applauded in the arena at the time.

"Uhmmm … I do not align myself with any political party or individual politicians," she said in an all caps post on her Instagram account.

"I never said Donald Trump is a legend. I said he was a legend... in that arena (key part of the sentence)," she explained.

"The arena was filled with UFC fight fans, many of them clearly Republican based off the insane crowd reaction he received walking into the T-Mobile venue. That was an observable fact. Not my opinion," Fox added.

"Really loving this uneducated, mid-evil [sic], pitch fork carrying, burn a witch at the stake mentality though, the world needs more of that," she concluded sarcastically.

Fox stirred some controversy from a previous guest spot on the Kimmel show when she described how she had been sexualized as a 15-year-old actress. Kimmel was criticized for laughing at the story and smirking a joke about it.
