Horowitz: New study finds masks become disgusting bacteria traps as mandates continue

    Daniel Horowitz

No sane layman, much less a doctor or scientist, could have thought hanging moist cloths from people’s breathing holes for hours on end in the heat wouldn’t become traps for bacteria and fungi. But shockingly, it has taken two years for a major study to be conducted affirming the obvious. Even more shockingly, a number of localities are bringing back edicts criminalizing bare-faced breathing without these bacteria traps. War is peace, and infections are health.

A new study published in Scientific Reports cultured bacteria and fungi from both sides of the masks worn by 109 medical school volunteers. The findings weren’t very surprising, but they also weren’t pretty. It turns out 99% of the samples had bacterial colonies growing on the inside of the mask, and 94% had it on the outside. What about fungi? 79% of the samples had it on the inside and 95% on the outside. Several of the bacteria were potentially dangerous, such as staphylococcus aureus, bacillus cereus, staphylococcus saprophyticus, and pseudomonas luteola.

As for the duration of wearing, the study found more of a correlation with increased risk of fungal growth than bacterial growth associated with longer duration of wearing the mask.

“The moisture requirement of bacteria may explain this20,21. While we wear a face mask, the humidity under the mask space becomes approximately 80%, in which bacteria can survive and grow22,23. In contrast, when a used mask is not worn for a long time, particularly at night, it dries out overnight and bacteria on the mask are likely to die due to the dry conditions. On the other hand, since fungi and their spores are resistant to drying, they can survive under the condition where masks dry out. This explains why fungi tended to accumulate and increase with longer mask usage.”

Amazingly, the conclusion of the Japanese researchers was “that immunocompromised people should avoid repeated use of masks to prevent microbial infection.”

We were told all these measures were put into place for immunocompromised people, and now we see they are in the most danger from wearing these masks.

Based on these findings, given that there is zero evidence masks worked against even the less contagious variants (much less the current “ninja” BA.5 variant), shouldn’t this be pretext for banning masks? Meaning, if one can ban bare human breathing on the speculative hypothesis that masks might help, then certainly wearing masks in public, which is not a human right, should be banned based on actual science. Your mask can never protect another person (if it works for the wearer, it works; if not, not), but these findings would indicate they can be a hazard for people other than the person wearing it.

Studies of school children in Spain, Finland, and North Dakota failed to find any positive correlation between reduction in cases and mask wearing. In fact, one French researcher, after studying case rates in 35 countries with 602 million people, concluded in a peer-reviewed paper that masks "may have harmful unintended consequences” after finding a “moderate positive correlation between mask usage and deaths in Western Europe.”

Several months ago, an observational study published in Medicine by German doctor Zacharias Fögen compared the overall case fatality rate in 81 counties in Kansas without mask mandates compared to the 24 with mandates. He actually found a higher statistically significant fatality rate in the mask counties. “Results from this study strongly suggest that mask mandates actually caused about 1.5 times the number of deaths or ∼50% more deaths compared to no mask mandates.”

Yet, it is the inhumane, illogical, and immoral policy that will never end – until we make it. San Diego schools just announced it will force children to wear them all day long and so will force masks to serve as the ultimate petri dish. LA is requiring them indoors again. British hospitals are returning to the scared cloth as well. Fauci is back to recommending them indoors, even though everyone is all shot up with the vaccine that was supposed to stop the virus because the masks originally failed to stop it. But fear not, there is somehow a magical scientific synergistic effect of masks together with four shots that will accomplish what masks with two or three shots failed to do.

But just like every other policy we have seen from the medical elite, it sure seems that every intervention is actually counterproductive. A recent CDC report found a 15% increase in resistant hospital-onset infections and deaths during the first year of the pandemic resulting from bacterial and fungal strains that are resistant to antibiotics, antifungals, and other treatments. What is even more shocking is that according to the CDC, the pre-pandemic trajectory was headed in the opposite direction. It found that antimicrobial-resistant infections had fallen by -27% from 2012 to 2017. Somehow that trend reversed beginning in 2020, yet nobody wants to research if perhaps wearing bacteria and fungi traps on your mouth, especially with children, is the culprit, before we sentence people to a life of cloth mouth.

Dr. Brian Tyson, who treated over 7,000 COVID patients at his urgent care in El Centro, California, recently told me that he cultured nine masks worn by children one day in a local elementary school. Seven of the samples contained black mold and strep pneumonia. “In clinic, we are seeing a 20-30% increase in co-infections with Strep Pneumonia via Healthtrackrx swabs. It is no surprise that secondary bacterial infections are occurring just like after the Spanish flu. Masks are [clearly] acting like a petri dish.”

Then there are the other harms, such as increased carbon dioxide. A preprint Italian study from May found that short-term surgical mask usage was associated with an increased inhaled CO2 level greater than 5000ppm in 90% of 10- to 18-year-olds in the sample. “Shortly after wearing surgical masks, the inhaled air CO2 approached the highest acceptable exposure threshold recommended for workers, while concerningly high concentrations were recorded in virtually all individuals when wearing FFP2 masks,” concluded the authors. “The CO2 concentration was significantly higher among minors and the subjects with high respiratory rate.”

Until now, it was egregious that the government would violate the human right to breathe freely without any evidence of safety and efficacy. Yet, more than two years later, now with an abundance of evidence and lived experience demonstrating masks are unsafe and ineffective, it is downright criminal to force them upon human beings.
