'This is a tragic day': Alec Baldwin blames 'cancel culture' for Cuomo resignation and faces online backlash

Left-wing actor Alec Baldwin responded to the resignation of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) by blaming "cancel culture," and he faced an onslaught of online backlash over his comments.

Cuomo announced on Tuesday that he would be resigning as governor over numerous allegations of sexual harassment after it appeared that he was heading towards impeachment by the Democrat-controlled New York state legislature.

Baldwin chimed in with a tweet from his official social media account.

"Regardless of what you think of Cuomo, this is a tragic day," Baldwin tweeted.

"Party politics in this country draw ambitious but ultimately isolated, even socially maladjusted men and women who, given the current cancel culture, will likely have their shortcomings exposed and magnified," he added.

Baldwin's tweet was not very popular online where he faced a fierce backlash.

"That is the wrong call," said consultant Tomi Ahonen. "You now expose yourself as another white old male sexist bastard. That fame and popularity you built mocking Trump loses all the effect Wrong call, Alec. We are very disappointed in you. How can you be this much of an a**hole?"

"Alec Baldwin is so scared of cancel culture that he called Cuomo's resignation tragic … baby what are you so afraid of?" replied another critic.

"Really, Alec? How the hell is this party politics? Cuomo abused his power with women. Time's up, dude," responded entertainment editor Carissa Pavlica.

"Mr. Baldwin is a hack. Had this happened to a Republican, he would be shouting for his resignation. But for Cuomo? No. Excuses and ignoring victims. Wrong is wrong regardless of party," replied another critic.

"I guess Alec doesn't have any sympathy for the 11 women and the 74K pieces of evidence reviewed against Cuomo, eh? What a sick statement by the actor," said another.

He was also upbraided for his comments by the entertainment reporter at the Daily Beast.

Baldwin has been outspoken about his support for left-wing causes and politicians in the past. He was especially acidic in his satiric portrayal of former President Donald Trump for Saturday Night Live.

Alec Baldwin dreamed President Trump was tried for 'sedition' with a makeshift noose outside courthouse

Alec Baldwin revealed on Friday that he had a macabre vision involving President Donald Trump. The actor, who has played Trump on "Saturday Night Live" since October 2016 and even won a Primetime Emmy Award for his over-the-top portrayal, dreamed about the president being on trial for sedition.

"I had a dream Trump was on trial for sedition. And outside the courthouse, a noose was hung from a makeshift scaffold," Baldwin tweeted. "The noose was made of recycled COVID masks."

Baldwin appears to be placing blame for the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol building solely on Trump.

This isn't the first time that Baldwin has fantasized about violence against Trump. In December, Baldwin wrote on Twitter about the various ways that Trump could be physically ripped out of the White House.

"Who arrests Trump if he refuses to concede? Who drags him out? Pepper spray? Cuffs? A knee on his neck, cutting off his oxygen? Does he wheeze 'I can't breathe.' Just whale away on him like a piñata? Rodney King style? The thug who has destroyed the country. What does he deserve?" Baldwin said.

In November, Baldwin dreamt about the death of Trump.

"Bury Trump in a Nazi graveyard and put a swastika on his grave," Baldwin stated. "The majority of Americans made the right choice. Trump is a maniac."

Baldwin has also had thoughts about shockingly disturbing brutality towards Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

"Put Ted Cruz in the stocks and throw rotten fruit and buckets of horse piss at him," Baldwin wrote on Jan. 6. "Then ride him on a rail. Then tar and feather him. And film it. For Netflix."

Last February, Baldwin compared Republican senators to enablers of murderous Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

"You wonder how Hitler took control of a once great country," the "SNL" actor tweeted. "For those of you too young to recall the War or its aftermath, simply watch how this GOP-controlled Senate behaves. Their sniveling fealty and lack of courage. And you begin to get it."

Baldwin capped off his career of impersonating Trump this week with a 42-minute audiobook titled "Hasta la Vista, America: Trump's Farewell Address." The final appearance "encompasses a parody of a Farewell Address, 2021 State of the Union Address and a preview of an imagined blockbuster presidential memoir, along with music and sound effects," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I was only interested in doing Trump, again, in any form, if it was with Kurt, who's the greatest political satirist as far as I'm concerned," Baldwin said of Kurt Andersen, the writer of the audiobook.

Baldwin's wife, Hilaria Baldwin, was hit with allegations that she lied for years about her Spanish heritage last month.

Biden calls for unity. Comedian says 'F*** that. I want blood.' Then conservatives pile on.

Comedian and actor David Cross has rejected President-elect Joe Biden's plea for unity amid his transition into the White House, calling for "blood" instead.

What are the details?

Biden on Saturday tweeted, "After a year of pain and loss, it's time to unite, heal, and rebuild."

While many social media users took the president-elect's message in a productive and positive way, Cross called for a revolution.

"F*** that," he wrote, retweeting Biden's remarks. "I want blood."

What was the response?

Despite its apparent call for division, the tweet, according to the Washington Examiner, "did not violate any of the tech giant's rules or policies," a statement from Twitter said.

Many conservatives and critics, however, had their say and railed against Cross's inflammatory remarks.

Writer Kurt Schlicter simply wrote, "Come and take it."

Twitter user TyrantNo4 wrote, "Imagine saying this and still thinking you're one of the good guys."

User BagelEnchilada chimed in, "David, I used to be a bouncer for a pub in Santa Monica. You came in one night. You barely made it to the top of the stool at the bar. Sit down."

Musician Phil Labonte added, "Well go gitchu some! Stop tweeting and start watering that grass. ... For the rest of eternity, anytime he tweets, there should be at least one reply that says 'the grass isn't gonna water itself.'"

Following the backlash, Cross on Sunday wrote, "I am loving the responses to this that are all, 'come and try p***y soy lib hollywood girl woman' as if these anonymous maga chuds & chudettes don't practice the same exact feckless violent fantasy trolling."

Anything else?

Just last week, actor Alec Baldwin — an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump — mused about the violence the sitting president should see should he refuse to vacate the White House in January.

“Who arrests Trump if he refuses to concede? Who drags him out? Pepper spray? Cuffs?" Baldwin wrote on Twitter earlier in the month. "A knee on his neck, cutting off his oxygen? Does he wheeze 'I can't breathe.' Just whale away on him like a piñata? Rodney King style? The thug who has destroyed the country. What does he deserve?"
