Autonomous zone in Atlanta is being run by a gang connected to shooting murder of 8-year-old girl, police say
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says that an "autonomous zone" in Atlanta is being run by a gang connected to the shooting murder of an 8-year-old girl.
The Rayshard Brooks autonomous zone is named after a black man that was shot and killed by police during an attempted DUI arrest in June 2020 in the parking lot of a Wendy's. That restaurant was destroyed by arson in the resultant protests and rioting.
The GBI says that Brooks was a member of the Bloods gang and that they took over part of the city where he was killed to set up a region where they rule by violence and intimidation.
"Prior investigation determined that Brooks was a member/associate of the Bloods criminal street gang," said the GBI in their warrant filed last week.
They went on to document how 8-year-old Secoriea Turner was shot and killed as she sat in a car outside of a liquor store near the autonomous zone on the evening of July 4. Rioters shot at the car after the driver tried to leave the area and Turner was hit.
19-year-old Julian Conley and 23-year-old Jerrion McKinney were arrested by the GBI as suspects in the Turner murder.
When WGCL-TV pressed the mayor's office about the autonomous zone in June 2020, a spokesperson said only that they would look into it. Although the mayor said that the city took action against the protest encampment, rioters returned very soon after.
The mayor's office told Fox News they did not know about the gang being involved with the autonomous zone.
"Neither the Administration nor APD had prior knowledge of alleged gang affiliation. It would be inappropriate to comment further as this is an ongoing investigation and legal matter," said a spokesperson.
Brooks's family said they had no knowledge of him being involved in a gang.

Black Lives Matter protester who demonstrated at Seattle's leftist CHOP zone charged with hate crimes against Asian-American women
A Black Lives Matter protester who demonstrated at Seattle's CHOP autonomous zone last summer has been charged with hate crimes against Asian-American women, KOMO-TV reported.
What are the details?
Seattle police arrested Christopher Hamner last month for two alleged incidents of anti-Asian hate attacks, the station said.
Pamela Cole told KOMO that Hamner threatened her and her young children when she tried to drive past him.
"He just opens his door and starts yelling at me 'F you, you Asian B! 'F you' kind of thing," Cole recalled to the station. "And then he pulls in the parking lot and comes charging at us."
Investigators said Hamner made similar anti-Asian hate threats to two other women just days later, KOMO added.
Cole noted to KCPQ-TV that Hamner also yelled at her, "Get out! Get out! Get out!" and that "me and my kids [were] just stuck" and that she felt "so helpless and defenseless as a mom."
Black Lives Matter
Nevertheless, KOMO reported that Hamner often was seen protesting with Black Lives Matter last summer and that he posted videos of himself on his social media accounts demonstrating at CHOP, the left-wing militant "autonomous zone" in downtown Seattle controlled by BLM and Antifa.
"Of course it strikes me as hypocritical, but I wasn't surprised to be completely honest," Cole told the station. "I wasn't shocked about it."
KOMO spoke with some leaders of the city's racial justice protests who remember Hamner, and they said he always seemed to be on the fringe. The station said one leader remembers his "creepy stares," and another characterized his actions as coming "out of left field."
A victim tried to help him
Cole told KOMO she reached out to Hamner's employers at a VA hospital to try to get him help since she doesn't believe putting him behind bars will do him any good.
"At the end of the day if he goes to jail, he still comes out as a racist full of hate," she noted to the station. "Nothing's changed. He didn't learn anything. ... There was no rehab in it, so to me it's pointless."
KOMO said Hamner remains in custody and is due to enter a plea on hate crime charges Thursday morning.

WATCH: Will MSM show THIS clip of the George Floyd memorial?
On the latest episode of "The Rubin Report," BlazeTV host Dave Rubin discussed the latest developments at George Floyd Square with a clip you likely won't see on CNN.
The place in Minneapolis where George Floyd was killed while in police custody last May has been turned into a memorial and named George Floyd Square. Now, as the Derek Chauvin trial is getting under way, protesters have allegedly turned the few blocks surrounding George Floyd Square into an autonomous zone that police are forbidden to enter.
Dave played a clip from NewsNation Now that shows what happens after a journalist tries to report what's happening in the George Floyd memorial autonomous zone.

Leftist thugs threaten reporter standing outside George Floyd memorial 'autonomous zone': 'You're gonna be in a bad situation in a second'
Brian Entin, a correspondent for NewsNation, was on camera this week recording a segment about the volatile situation inside the George Floyd memorial "autonomous zone" in Minneapolis — barricaded blocks where Floyd died last May after being detained by police that are now controlled by left-wing militants.
Soon a pair of black-clad individuals were seen walking toward Entin as he was speaking:

Despite the fact that Entin was standing on the other side of the memorial's makeshift barrier, it didn't matter to the duo — and they proceeded to threaten the correspondent, who had just finished saying that leaders of the autonomous zone "don't let anyone in, not even the police."
'You're gonna be in a bad situation in a second'
"You're gonna be in a bad situation in a second," one of the militants told Entin.

"What do you mean by that?" Entin replied.
"Because you've been called out for what you are, and you need to get out of here," the same militant replied.
When Entin continued asking what the problem was, the militant remained vague and threatening: "We know what you are. You need to get in your car and go."
After Entin explained that he was a media member, the militant shot back, "I don't give a f*** who you are. You've been called out for who you are ..." Entin then took the hint and left.

Oh, there's more
Later in the Twitter clip Entin posted Tuesday, he interviewed Minneapolis resident Kim Griffin — and Griffin said her nephew, 28-year-old Imez Wright, was shot and killed at the George Floyd memorial last weekend.
Entin asked Griffin, "Were police able to get in and help him?"
She replied that "police were not allowed to get into that area; he was carried out outside of the zone of George Floyd Square."

Entin seemed taken aback: "But now allowed by who? I mean, they're the police."
Griffin answered that "it was made clear law enforcement was not welcome to penetrate that zone, which is an atrocity because his life was taken, and I mean, who knows whether or not he would have survived had things been different."
The sub-headline of a Star Tribune report about Wright's death indicates the "fatality occurred near George Floyd Square" while text in the article reads that the "homicide happened close to the scene of George Floyd's death nearly a year ago, at the intersection of 38th and Chicago, now known as George Floyd Square."
Griffin told Entin that "the situation at the memorial ... from what I understand, it's kind of volatile. People that want to go and support doesn't feel a sense of inclusion. There is more of a, like, militant-type atmosphere over there and a sense of fear."
Anything else?
According to NewsNation, Minneapolis leaders said they'll reopen the barricaded autonomous zone after the murder trial of the former police officer accused of killing Floyd; jury selection for the trial has just commenced.
City council members are so concerned about the consequences of the trial that they've budgeted more than $1 million to get positive messages to the public — and are paying six social media influencers with a large local following to share the city's messaging.
Andrea Jenkins, one of two council members representing parts of the neighborhood, told NewsNation that some of her constituents have complained about gunshots and the frequent sound of police helicopters overhead.
"The neighbors deserve to have a level of comfort that does not include gunshots every night, and muggings and carjackings, and all the violent crimes we have been witnessing in this community," Jenkins noted to NewsNation.
More from the outlet:
Violent crime at the intersection and the blocks immediately surrounding it rose dramatically in 2020, though crime also increased citywide. There were 19 nonfatal and fatal shootings in the area in 2020, including 14 shootings from May 1 through Aug. 31. That's compared with three shootings in all of 2019 and none during the summer months.
Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Medaria Arradondo last month disputed frequent characterizations of the square as an "autonomous zone" but cited those perceptions as a major reason it must be reopened.
Jenkins said officers have been met with "protests, resistance, opposition" that have sometimes led them to avoid policing the area. [group oragnizer Marcia] Howard and other leaders dispute that anyone in the square has impeded officers.

‘Militant-Style Group’ Still Occupies George Floyd Autonomous Zone In Minneapolis
One person was shot and killed in the autonomous zone last weekend, which might have been avoided if law enforcement had been able to enter the zone.
Leftist militants bully, physically attack Portland TV news reporter, videographer who dared to enter their 'autonomous zone'
A gang of militant leftists were caught on video descending upon a Portland TV news reporter and videographer who dared to enter their "autonomous zone" — and they proceeded to bully, physically attack, and force out the news team.
What's the background?
The "autonomous zone" was set up the same day leftists militants were caught on video chasing Portland police away from the foreclosed house. In fact, they kicked and threw rocks at retreating police vehicles and ran up on cops and appeared to try to steal their equipment while taunting and threatening them as they literally chased officers down a street.
"We ain't f***in' around!" one militant was heard yelling at cops while another leftist declared, "I'll knock you the f*** out, bitch!"

What happened to the journalists?
With that, reporter Genevieve Reaume and videographer Ric Peavyhouse — both with KATU-TV News — on Tuesday walked past barricades set up around the foreclosed house on North Mississippi Avenue in an attempt to interview occupiers.
And that's when trouble immediately began for them.
"Film crew coming through," a leftist female was heard yelling to her comrades. "They're not our friends!"
As black umbrellas popped up and converged in front of Reaume and Peavyhouse, another militant barked, "Just get outta here, man!"
Soon Peavyhouse's video caught audio of Reaume screaming at the leftists to get away from her — and in fact, they knocked her cellphone from her hand and bloodied her finger.
Here's what Reaume's cellphone documented:
Sorry for the blood. Hand isn’t broken, thankfully! Wound was glued up at urgent care. https://t.co/YktY4XCrLC— Genevieve Reaume (@Genevieve Reaume)1607480751.0
"That's some cold s***t!" one person can be heard saying after the attack.
As the pair were forced to walk out the autonomous zone, one of the militants can be heard threatening the Peavyhouse: "I'll break your f***in' camera, you realize that!"
The same leftist is heard adding, "Touch me one more time and see what happens to your f***in' camera!"
As the pair approach the barricade they earlier breached, the same militant is heard taunting them: "Call the cops! Go file a police report and see how useful they are!"

What did police have to say?
"I certainly am respectful of the issue that people are there to address, but blocking streets and chasing police officers out of the neighborhood is still not OK and really contrary to our values as Portlanders," Deputy Police Chief Chris Davis told the Oregonian Tuesday evening.
Davis added that police "have to be thoughtful about" the situation and go about it "in the right way" and "consider all the angles and do our best to resolve the situation as safely as possible," the paper reported.
