Brothers beat up tire shop worker amid dispute, take worker's gun, hit him with it. One arrested brother on immigration hold.



Two brothers beat up a Miami tire shop employee amid a dispute over a work order Monday afternoon, police said. Both brothers were arrested — but one of them, a Cuban national — reportedly was placed on an immigration hold.

Miami-Dade police told WPLG-TV that 40-year-old Pedro Luis Rodriguez and 32-year-old Luis Angel Rodriguez-Candano came to Tire Liquidators Miami II in the 2000 block of SW 67th Avenue in west Miami-Dade and argued with the employee over a job done on a car.

Rodriguez grabbed the employee's gun, hit him on the head with it, and said in Spanish, 'What good is it to kill you?' WPLG noted, citing the police report.

Police said Rodriguez began punching the employee multiple times amid the argument, WPLG reported.

The employee then drew a gun from his waistband and held it in the air, the station said, citing a police report.

With that, Rodriguez-Candano lunged at the employee and began pushing him, WPLG said, adding that authorities indicated both brothers jumped on top of the employee, punching him multiple times in the head and body.

The employee then fired three shots — and one of them struck Rodriguez in the leg, the station said.

Rodriguez grabbed the employee's gun, hit him on the head with it, and said in Spanish, "What good is it to kill you?" WPLG noted, citing the police report.

Police said Rodriguez ran out of the office to call for help, the station said.

Police added that Rodriguez-Candano, once outside, continued to punch the employee, took the gun from Rodriguez, and pointed it at the victim, WPLG reported.

Medics were sent to the scene just after 3:45 p.m., the station said, citing dispatch records,

Authorities told WPLG that the tire shop employee suffered a cut to the top of his head and bruising on both arms but was not taken to a hospital.

Police added to the station that the employee told them he fired the gun in self-defense — and the tire shop owner also supports that claim.

The brother who was shot was taken to a hospital in stable condition, WPLG said.

The station, citing jail records, reported that both brothers are facing one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and that Rodriguez-Candano is facing a separate charge of battery.

The brothers appeared in Miami-Dade bond court for second hearings Tuesday, WPLG reported, adding that both required Spanish interpreters and were represented by attorneys appearing via Zoom.

Rodriguez, a Cuban national, was placed on an immigration hold, and his bond was set at $5,000, the station said.

Rodriguez-Cadano was also given a $5,000 bond, WPLG reported, adding that a judge ordered both brothers were ordered to stay away from the victim.

Violent felon accused of fatally shooting off-duty corrections officer who intervened after suspect allegedly beat female



A felon with a violent criminal history is accused of fatally shooting an off-duty corrections officer who intervened when the suspect allegedly was beating a woman at a Florida truck stop early Saturday morning.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 29-year-old Demaurea Grant at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in Gastonia, North Carolina, and is pending extradition to Jacksonville, the Florida Times-Union reported, citing Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters' announcement during a news conference.

Grant is charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a firearm, and discharging a firearm in public.

Grant is accused of killing Officer Bradley McNew, a sheriff's office corrections officer and 24-year veteran of the department, the Times-Union said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a male and female were involved in a violent dispute around 1:20 a.m. in the 12900 block of Duval Road. You can view surveillance video of the incident here. The suspect was observed exiting a black Mustang, placing a black handgun on the hood, removing the female from the driver’s seat, and then battering the female, throwing her against the vehicle and the ground.

Off-duty Corrections Officer Bradley McNew had just finished his shift, heard the disturbance, and went to check on the female victim, the sheriff's office said. The suspect approached McNew, said it was a family matter, re-engaged with the female, and then pointed the gun in Officer McNew’s direction, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect and female returned to the vehicle, and as they were leaving the scene, the suspect was observed hanging out of the window, firing the handgun, and striking Officer McNew, the sheriff's office said, adding that he was taken to a hospital where he died. The Times-Union said McNew was in plain clothes at the time.

The sheriff's office noted that the Mustang had a North Carolina license plate of RHL-4285.

Sheriff Waters said the U.S. Marshals took Grant ― a felon with a violent criminal history ― into custody without incident, the Times-Union said, adding that tips from citizens as well as the investigation by detectives from the Sheriff's Office, the Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, and the State Attorney's Office led to his arrest.

Grant is charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a firearm, and discharging a firearm in public, Waters said, according to the paper.

The sheriff added that a female who was with Grant was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant regarding a North Carolina crime, the Times-Union said, adding that the sheriff's office didn't release her name or say what her relationship, if any, might be to Grant.

Rory Wilson and his friend Charles Beck stood in front of the doors of Hamilton Hall — the target of a pro-Palestinian student takeover.

"It was a matter of trying to stand for what I believe is right, even if ultimately we weren't able to stop the mob," Rory Wilson — a Christian who has some Jewish lineage and Israeli relatives — told Fox News.

One thing the pro-Hamas, bullying students love to do is line up in pathways and doorways on campus to prevent other students from passing through — a power move that shows who's boss that doesn't seem to elicit much pushback.

This time Wilson and Beck tried the same thing — just the two of them. Here's how that played out:

The mob soon dragged Beck away, and Wilson stood his ground for a while until things got too dangerous, the cable network said.

Wilson added to Fox News that an aging leftist chewed him out, too: "She was harassing me the entire time. She was attacking me, saying, ‘Do you guys think you’re white saviors? Check your white male privilege. Who do you think you are? This isn't doing anything.’"

A Jewish freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison told MacIver News Service that he's feeling "a little scared" in the face of the pro-Palestinian protests happening on campus.

He told the outlet when he tried to document what was happening with his phone, "I was surrounded by 10 people with scarves, jackets, and they were pushing me around, getting very close. ... As a Jewish student here, I feel that it's the cool thing to be against Israel, to be against the Jewish people. And I see it happening more and more throughout classes, I see it happening with faculty and staff, and I think it's terrible that the campus hasn't done anything about it. I'm all for free speech; I'm all for the freedom to come together and stand up for what you believe in, but everything with the right intentions and keeping everybody safe."

Energy Department plans to loan company $850 million to construct battery cell manufacturing plant



The U.S. Department of Energy has announced plans to loan $850 million for a company to build a battery cell manufacturing plant.

The loan to KORE Power, Inc. would help to pay to build a massive facility in Arizona which is slated to produce batteries for electric vehicles as well as for energy storage systems, according to a press release. Energy storage systems enable the storage of energy produced by intermittent sources such as wind and solar, the release indicated.

"The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) today announced a conditional commitment for an $850 million loan to help finance the construction of KORE Power, Inc.'s advanced battery cell manufacturing facility in Buckeye, Arizona," the press release stated. "The facility, called 'KOREPlex,' aims to strengthen the domestic battery supply chain by significantly increasing the nation’s battery cell manufacturing capacity for energy storage systems (ESS) and electric vehicles (EVs)."

The Biden administration, which pushes a climate alarmist agenda, wants Americans to transition away from driving traditional gas-powered vehicles.

"The KOREPlex will produce an estimated 6 GWh of battery cell storage capacity annually, which could power more than 28,000 EVs annually and displace an estimated 11.8 million gallons of gasoline per year," the press release stated.

The department claimed that the facility would allow for decreased reliance on countries like China.

"Electric vehicles, which represent a rapidly growing share of new vehicle sales, are powered by advanced batteries. ESS allow energy from intermittent renewable sources, like wind and solar, to be stored and dispatched as needed. Onshoring battery manufacturing is critical to reducing America's reliance on other nations, such as China, which currently dominates the industry and supplies many American companies with materials to resell foreign-made batteries," the department said.

"The 1,330,000-square foot KOREPlex building will house two production lines, which will manufacture batteries for EV and ESS. The KOREPlex plant will also produce two unique battery cell chemistries, including both nickel manganese cobalt chemistry, and lithium-iron phosphate, which does not utilize cobalt and may help reduce reliance on foreign supply chains use of that critical material," the press release stated.

The Energy Department noted that there are conditions that need to be met before the loan is issued.

"While this conditional commitment demonstrates the Department's intent to finance the project, several steps remain for the project to reach critical milestones, and certain conditions must be satisfied before the Department issues a final loan," the press release stated.
