Biden extends temporary protection status for 800,000 migrants from Venezuela and El Salvador ahead of Trump crackdown

The Biden administration has extended temporary protection status for nearly a million migrants from Venezuela and El Salvador ahead of an expected immigration crackdown under President-elect Donald Trump.

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday that about 600,000 migrants from Venezuela and over 230,000 migrants from El Salvador would have their protection status extended for another 18 months.

Trump has spoken against TPS policies previously and federal regulations allow for the protections to be ended early.

Trump has promised to commence mass deportations to address the crisis of illegal immigration in the U.S. that has worsened under the Biden administration. Illegal alien advocates oppose mass deportation on the basis that such policies are inhumane and unconstitutional, but many officials say the efforts are necessary to deter more illegal crossings.

The protection status was also extended for 103,000 Ukrainians and 1,900 Sudanese migrants in the U.S.

Although Trump has spoken against TPS policies previously and federal regulations allow for the protections to be ended early, that has never been done before, according to the Associated Press.

The program was created in 1990 by Congress to allow migrants escaping natural disasters or civil strife to obtain work permits for increments of up to 18 months at a time. Venezuelans qualified for protections based on the "severe humanitarian emergency" caused by the communist Maduro regime, and migrants from El Salvador qualified because of "environmental conditions" that included heavy rains and storms.

The migrants that qualify for TPS are not provided a path to citizenship through that program.

Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada applauded the announcement but lamented that the Biden administration didn't do more for other migrants in the U.S.

"I’m glad to see the Biden administration take actions I was pushing for to protect DACA recipients and extend TPS for El Salvador and Venezuela, which will protect hardworking immigrant communities across the country," she wrote. "It is unfortunate that President Biden didn’t also re-designate TPS for Nicaragua and Ecuador."

Immigration became a focal point in the 2024 presidential election after several Republican governors began sending illegal immigrants to Democrat-controlled states that had implemented "sanctuary city" protections for illegal aliens. After the burden on social services increased, many Democrats were forced to admit that illegal immigration was a problem that needed to be addressed federally.

Kamala meets with a man in a dress while Putin and Kim Jong Un conspire?!

While Russia’s Vladimir Putin is getting friendly with all of America’s enemies and holding meetings with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, the White House is executing a much different strategy.

Vice President Kamala Harris invited the cast of Bravo’s “Queer Eye” to visit the White House to celebrate Pride Month.

“Queer Eye” is a show where gay celebrities give straight men makeovers.

Harris then posted videos of their visit, one featuring the caption: “The cast of @QueerEye joined me at the White House to discuss the hard-fought progress the LGBTQI+ community has made in the past 20 years. Thank you for a meaningful conversation, for giving my office your stamp of approval, and for being fabulous.”

One video featured a member of the cast standing behind the podium as if giving a press conference answering questions about his hair.

Glenn Beck can’t believe that these are the people in charge.

“Here he is standing behind the podium at the White House, and then he does a deal with the vice president where he knocks on her door and she opens it up in the West Wing and she’s like ‘Hello,’ and he’s like ‘Surprise’ and they come in, he’s wearing a dress and heels and everything else,” he says.

“Don’t lecture me about women,” he adds, shaking his head.

Biden orders executive action to grant amnesty for illegal aliens married to US citizens: 'It doesn't tear families apart'

President Joe Biden announced two executive actions meant to ease restrictions on illegal aliens trying to gain legal status and those classified as "Dreamers."

Biden announced the orders on Tuesday in a media briefing at the White House, surrounded by Democrats who applauded him.

'It will be a magnet for even MORE illegal immigration. Biden needs to stop rewriting immigration law and start enforcing it.'

"This action is a better way. It doesn't tear families apart while requiring every undocumented spouse to fulfill their obligation under the law," said Biden.

The order would do away with a provision that forced illegal immigrants to leave the country when seeking legal status and come back as part of their application process.

"These couples have been raising families, sending their kids to church and school, paying taxes, contributing to our country for ten years or more," the president continued in part. "They've been living in the United States all of this time, in fear and uncertainty.

"We can fix that, and that's why I'm gonna do today!"

The second order would make it easier for those who gained legal status under the Obama-era DACA act to get work visas.

While the mainstream media downplayed the orders in its reporting, illegal immigrant advocates applauded what they saw as amnesty for illegal immigrants married to U.S. citizens.

"President Biden Announces Executive Order Granting Parole in Place for Undocumented Spouses of U.S. Citizens," announced the social media account for NM Dream Team. "Over 1M undocumented spouses, including nearly 100K DACA recipients, to gain protection from deportation and work authorization."

'Desperate pandering for his failing reelection bid.'

Others called it the greatest action to ease restrictions on illegal immigrants since the DACA order by former President Barack Obama. More than 800,000 illegal aliens gained an exemption from deportation under that order, which many on the right called unconstitutional.

Among the critics was Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who immediately lambasted the Biden administration on social media.

"Biden’s mass amnesty policy is a desperate pandering for his failing reelection bid. It will be a magnet for even MORE illegal immigration. Biden needs to stop rewriting immigration law and start enforcing it. America can’t survive 4 more years of Biden's border crisis," wrote Abbott.

Critics of the DACA amnesty order say that many of those allowed to gain legal status didn't meet up to the stringent standards that were supposed to govern the program. Defenders of the program say that many who are eligible have difficulty providing paperwork to prove their eligibility owing to their hasty exits from their countries of origin.

Much like the DACA amnesty program, Biden's orders are expected to be challenged in court.
