Billionaire entrepreneur Joe Gebbia said that the failure of Democrats to secure the border led to his abandoning the party and voting for President Donald Trump.
The 44-year-old, who co-founded Airbnb, made the comments while speaking to Katie Miller on her podcast. He said that he spoke to his friends on the Democratic side about border issues and was not satisfied with their explanations.
'This is not right. ... This is a real problem, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be enforcing the laws of our country.'
"In mid-2021, the activity at the border caught my attention, and I remember thinking, 'What's going on with this topic? It seems as if there's no border,'" said Gebbia. "And as it got worse that year, I felt as if I needed to understand this problem more, so I reached out to my friends from the Democratic side of the House, at all levels, from the highest level all the way down."
He added: "I got some answers, but felt unfulfilled."
Gebbia went on to say that the president's son-in-law and former adviser Jared Kushner sealed the deal with him after explaining the issue more fully.
"I get on the phone with Jared and say, ‘Hey, can you help me? Fill in the gaps for me? Like, what am I missing here? Is this normal? Like, it seems there’s no enforcement of our own border. Like, don’t nations need borders to be a nation?’ And so he put me on this curriculum of just talking to experts in the field, and I remember just being like, 'Holy cow, this is crazy!' Like, this is not right," Gebbia continued.
"This is a real problem, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be enforcing the laws of our country and our border," he added. "And so, I think, as I started to pull on that thread, I sort of began to look at other topics and eventually came to the point where I don’t think I can support a political party that wants to have an open border, that lets in criminals and dangerous people into our country. That’s not something I can get behind."
Video of Gebbia's comments went viral on social media with more than nine million views.

Gebbia went on social media to clarify that he had stepped away from any operating role at the company in 2022.
"My views are my own and are in no way reflective of the company," he added.
That did not prevent people on the left from attacking him.
"Gross. Airbnb’s co-founder Joe Gebbia spreading anti-immigrant hate on the podcast of a fascist who delights in separating families and disappearing people," responded queer New York City Council member Tiffany Caban.

House lawmakers are advancing their investigation into how non-governmental organizations contributed to the immigration crisis under the Biden administration.
The Committee on Homeland Security, chaired by Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), announced last week that it is holding a hearing, "An Inside Job: How NGOs Facilitated the Biden Border Crisis," as part of "a years-long investigation by the Committee into whether NGOs used taxpayer dollars to facilitate illegal activity during the Biden-Harris administration."
A third organization received over $3 billion from the Biden administration to provide immigrant services.
Blaze Media national correspondent Julio Rosas, Oversight Project president and Blaze News contributor Mike Howell, and GUARD Against Trafficking president and co-founder Ali Hopper will provide their congressional testimony during Wednesday's hearing.
Last month, Reps. Green and Josh Brecheen (R-Okla.), the chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability, sent inquiry letters to over 200 NGOs requesting additional information.
The committee expressed concerns about some of the NGOs' activities, noting that one was linked to "the far-left, anti-law enforcement riots in Los Angeles" and another organization, funded by taxpayer dollars and potentially also backed by the Chinese Communist Party, allegedly advised illegal aliens on how to evade ICE. A third organization received over $3 billion from the Biden administration to provide immigrant services, including for the transportation and housing of unaccompanied alien children, the committee noted.
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time. It can be viewed live on the committee's YouTube.

Justice for Laken Riley at risk? Shocking court decision could give vicious killer a new trial.
The illegal alien gangster convicted in the vicious slaying of beloved nursing student Laken Riley may get a new trial after a shocking ruling from the same judge who found him guilty.
On Thursday, Judge Patrick Haggard ruled that Jose Ibarra must undergo a mental health evaluation. Ibarra's appeals attorneys had claimed in court documents filed last month that Ibarra has a "congenital deficiency" and a diminished "mental capacity" that could have affected his ability to make decisions during Riley's murder and the subsequent trial.
'This court has found it appropriate for an evaluation to be conducted at the public expense.'
Ibarra is "suffering from congenital deficiency which could render the client incapable of preparing a defense and standing trial," the lawyers wrote, according to the New York Post.
They added that Ibarra "lacks the mental capacity to understand the nature and object and proceedings and [counsel] believes that this was in existence at the time of the offense and at the time of the trial."

Last fall, Ibarra waived his right to a jury and instead opted for a bench trial. On November 20, Judge Haggard found Ibarra guilty of malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape, aggravated battery, obstruction of a 911 call, tampering with evidence, and peeping Tom. The judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Ibarra's appeals attorneys argued that his alleged mental deficiencies may have impacted the decision to opt for a bench trial instead of a jury trial, noting that his trial attorneys did not have his mental health evaluated. They even claimed a "language barrier" may have exacerbated these alleged concerns.
Prosecutor Sheila Ross responded to the motion about a mental health evaluation by noting that nothing presented at trial indicated that Ibarra suffered from mental incompetence.
"There were no challenges or concerns about Defendant’s competency to stand trial during the pretrial and trial proceedings. Moreover, there is nothing in the trial record that would suggest that Defendant was not competent during his trial," Ross wrote in a June 25 motion obtained by Blaze News.
She also dismissed the "language barrier" allegation, pointing to the "court-certified interpreter who is fluent in both Spanish and English" who assisted Ibarra at pretrial and trial proceedings. However, Ross ultimately did not oppose an evaluation, leaving the decision up to Judge Haggard.
"The mental competence of [Ibarra] has been called into question, and this court has found it appropriate for an evaluation to be conducted at the public expense," Haggard wrote in his latest ruling.
Haggard demanded that Ibarra be given a "prompt evaluation" by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities either at a Georgia Department of Corrections facility or at a hospital, Fox News reported.
Whether any evaluation has yet been scheduled is unclear. Should authorities determine that Ibarra was mentally unfit, he may be granted a "trial redo," the Post indicated.
The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia declined a request for comment from Blaze News, citing ongoing litigation.
On February 22, 2024, Ibarra attacked Riley, 22, in broad daylight while she was jogging near the campus of the University of Georgia. He ambushed her and attempted to rape her. After she fought back, he brutally bashed her skull with a rock, according to prosecutors. His DNA was discovered under Riley's fingernails.
Ibarra, 27, and two of his brothers stole into the United States from Venezuela during the border crisis of the Biden administration. Days before his conviction in November, sources within Biden's Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Ibarra is a member of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
At least one of Ibarra's brothers is a suspected TDA associate as well. Both brothers have had run-ins with the law since breaking into the U.S., pled guilty to possessing a fraudulent document, and are slated for deportation as part of Operation Take Back America under President Donald Trump.
Jose Ibarra was also arrested for other alleged crimes in New York City prior to moving to Georgia.

A Democrat judge in New Mexico resigned last month just days after a suspected member of the violent Tren de Aragua gang was arrested at his residence.
On March 3, Judge Jose "Joel" Cano, magistrate of Doña Ana County, sent a letter to various court staff, including 3rd Judicial District Chief Judge Conrad Perea, announcing that he would step down from his seat effective March 21.
"Working with each of you has been a very rewarding experience for which I will remain eternally grateful," he wrote, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
Just three days before Cano sent the resignation letter, on February 28, ICE agents conducted a search warrant on his home in connection with Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela and suspected TDA gangster who was living there.
Ortega-Lopez broke into the U.S. by scaling a barbed-wire fence near Eagle Pass, Texas, at the height of the Biden border crisis in December 2023, Breitbart reported, citing court documents. He spent three days at a detention facility in South Laredo before he was released because of overcrowding.
He then moved in with five other people in El Paso and began working in construction and doing other odd jobs. At some point, he crossed paths with Nancy Cano, wife of ex-Judge Cano, who offered Ortega-Lopez the chance to live in a casita behind the home the couple shares in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Ortega-Lopez apparently accepted the offer because last April, he filed a request for immigration relief and listed the judge's address as his current residence. Breitbart indicated that the judge "allowed" him to do so.
Judge Damian Martinez initially opted to release him, reportedly stating that he did not believe Judge Cano 'would just let anybody live in his property.'
Far from mere casual acquaintances, Ortega-Lopez and Cano apparently spent considerable time together. Prosecutors introduced photos and videos posted to social media that showed the two posing together.
What's more, the photos and videos revealed that on at least one occasion, Ortega-Lopez and several other illegal aliens went to the local gun range, where they fired various firearms. One photo reportedly showed Ortega-Lopez double-fisting an AR-15-style rifle and a handgun, while in another photo, he allegedly handled another AR-style rifle outfitted with a suppressor.
Video footage also showed Ortega-Lopez firing the rifle until it ran out of bullets, according to Breitbart. He then reloaded the gun with a fresh magazine and proceeded to fire it again.
During their investigation, agents discovered a cache of weapons at the nearby home of April Cano, identified as Nancy Cano's daughter. Prosecutors alleged that after meeting Ortega-Lopez, April Cano "allowed him to hold and sometimes shoot various firearms" she owns.
In some of the social media photos, Ortega-Lopez can be seen holding some of April Cano's firearms, the Journal said. His TDA tattoos are reportedly visible in both the photos and videos.
Ortega-Lopez's cell phone also contains images of decapitated and mutilated bodies, reported Breitbart, which claimed to have viewed the gruesome images.
Ortega-Lopez was arrested on February 28 and currently faces a federal charge of unlawful alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition. At a detention hearing on March 14, U.S. Magistrate Judge Damian Martinez initially opted to release him, reportedly stating that he did not believe Judge Cano "would just let anybody live in his property."
Prosecutors immediately filed an appeal of his release and included the quotation from Judge Martinez in their motion.
Martinez also reportedly wanted to consider whether Mrs. Cano might be considered a third-party custodian of Ortega-Lopez.
For now, Ortega-Lopez remains in custody without bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center for "violation [of] federal immigration laws," jail records show.
Joel and Nancy Cano declined a request for comment from the Journal, claiming they did not want to jeopardize any of Ortega-Lopez's pending legal cases. Whether any of the Canos will face charges on account of their association with Ortega-Lopez remains unclear.
Joel Cano is a former police officer who first ran for the county magistrate position as a Democrat in 2010. He then kept his seat by running unopposed in subsequent elections, including his most recent re-election in 2022.
Earlier this year, the U.S. government declared Tren de Aragua to be a foreign terrorist organization.

“This post from Natalie Winters on X has been replaying in my head all day because I think it's not only pithy, it encapsulates the reality of the situation,” says Liz Wheeler, host of “The Liz Wheeler show.”
“Keep in mind what is actually being done to Teslas. They're not just being keyed; Tesla owners aren't just finding nasty notes on their vehicles. … We're talking firebombing, shots being fired, Molotov cocktails being hurled at Tesla showrooms,” she continues.
How does the left justify such violence?
Liz’s answer is simple and profound: “The left and the mainstream media has spent the past decade branding Donald Trump as an authoritarian Nazi tyrant” and “branding you as fascist sympathizer,” so “when they hurl these Molotov cocktails … they feel justified because they've been told if they don't stop you by any means necessary that you're going to commit some heinous genocide” against “marginalized people.”
Elon Musk has become a prime target, she explains, because “he is exposing the nexus of the entire plot to destroy America.”
“It's always been part of the left's anti-American strategy to flood the United States with illegal aliens” for the purpose of destroying our welfare and education systems, says Liz. “Elon Musk by DOGEing the federal government and exposing this kind of fraud is hovering over the target.”
And he’s doing it unapologetically. On March 30, at a town hall event in Wisconsin, Musk, alongside his longtime associate Antonio Gracias, exposed the millions of noncitizens who got Social Security numbers during Biden’s presidency.
“It was a massive, large-scale program to import as many illegals as possible, ultimately to change the entire voting map of the United States and disenfranchise the American people and make it a permanent, deep-blue one-party state from which there would be no escape,” Musk said frankly.
“This is true. The defaults in the system, from Social Security to all of the benefit programs, have been set to max inclusion, max pay for these people and minimum collection. We found 1.3 million of them already on Medicaid,” Gracias added.
The DOGE team then looked at voting records from the 5.5 million illegal immigrants who had obtained Social Security numbers during Biden’s era and found that some of this population was not only registered to vote but actually did vote.
“We've been gaslit as conservatives for years by the left saying, ‘You don't have any evidence that there's any kind of voter fraud that's happening,”’ Liz recalls. “Well, here’s your evidence.”
Musk’s next investigation, he revealed, will be into members of Congress who despite earning $200,000 a year have net worths in the multimillions.
“Please, Elon, I beg of you, please start your investigation with Nancy Pelosi,” Liz pleads.
