'We can no longer indulge his delusions': Legendary announcer Bob Costas says Biden's cognitive decline was obvious

Iconic sports announcer and vocal Democrat Bob Costas accused the Democratic Party of "gaslighting" its voters by pretending that President Biden was not going through an obvious mental decline.

Costas has been adamantly anti-Trump in recent years but has also called out some of the more obvious flaws of the Democrats.

Keeping with that theme, the announcer spoke to CNN's Michael Smerconish and reflected on Biden's infamous presidential debate performance that had Democrats calling for him to step out of the race.

"That one atrocious night was simply writ-large what could be seen for years and years, that he is in serious decline," Costas told Smerconish. "Nobody should be president when they're 85 or 86, including the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, but this guy is clearly in decline at this point," he continued.

"And part of the job, leaving aside whether he can do it for the next four years, is winning the job. And as you just laid out, that seems to be nearly impossible at this point."

'It makes you wonder whether we've been gaslit by the Democrats.'

Costas then explained that Democrats have continued to defend Biden despite the obvious cognitive issues he has had.

"Many Democrats are still saying this ... they lay out all the reasons why Donald Trump is loathsome and a threat to democracy and an existential threat, and they say that's why we have to get behind Joe Biden. No, that's exactly why Joe Biden must be ushered out," he clarified, per Awful Announcing.

"Biden had a chance to be seen by history as a statesman and a patriot. He spared the nation a second Trump term, he could have gone out in a gracious fashion. Now, we can no longer indulge his delusions," Costas said firmly.

The sports broadcaster was definitely ahead of the curve in terms of Democrats who have called for Biden's replacement. Costas came out in February 2024 and said that the president was too frail to complete a second term.

He said at the time that "at best" President Joe Biden could "squeak by" to beat Trump in 2024, but even if he was re-elected, "It's very likely that he cannot complete his second term."

"He'd be 86 at the end of it," he added.

The announcer has made sure, however, to include a jab at Republicans whenever he criticizes his own party. When he first said Biden was too old to continue, he added that MAGA supporters were in a "toxic cult" and under a "toxic delusion" to think that Trump was ever "emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit" to serve as America's president.

Weeks earlier, he called it "crazy" for men to compete in women's sports but also said Trump supporters are in a "cult" and a "coalition of the brainless and ... the spineless."

Costas indeed took a shot at Republicans in his most recent appearance on CNN, as well, when he accused Democrats of gaslighting their voters:

"It makes you wonder whether we've been gaslit by the Democrats," he said. "The Republicans major in gaslighting everybody with Trump as their standard-bearer, but this had to have been obvious to people surrounding the president, people who observed the president. Wouldn't it have been an act of patriotism, if that's not too overblown a word in this case, to lay that out before the American public?"

Blaze News contributor T.J. Moe responded to Costas' comments by saying that the announcer's views will soon be a thing of the past.

"Thank God the attitude of the country is leaving guys like Costas behind," Moe wrote on X.

Bob Costas blasts Trump, suggests his supporters are under 'toxic delusion,' and suggests Biden shouldn't be 2024 candidate

During an appearance on CNN, Bob Costas blasted former President Donald Trump and Trump supporters, describing the former president as "by far the most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history" and a "bubbling cauldron of loathsome traits" while suggesting that people need to be in a "toxic cult" and under "toxic delusion" to think that Trump was ever "emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically fit" to serve as America's president.

Costas said that "at best" President Joe Biden may "squeak by" to beat Trump in 2024 but that even if Biden pulls off a re-election victory, "it's very likely that he cannot complete his second term, he'd be 86 at the end of it."

He said that when California Gov. Gavin Newsom delivers "a very articulate and detailed case for President Biden," it leaves many people thinking that "Biden is incapable of uttering even two consecutive sentences of the five perfect paragraphs that Newsom just put together."

Costas indicated that Biden should not be the Democratic Party's presidential candidate in 2024. "You don't go into the Super Bowl with a quarterback who has a dead arm," he said.

While Costas described Biden as a "decent man," he called Trump a "monster."

Trump has largely cleared the GOP presidential primary field, though former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who recently lost the Republican presidential primary in her home state, still has not dropped out of the race. And while Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota is running for the Democratic presidential nod, he has so far failed to gain traction against Biden.

'That seems crazy': Legendary announcer Bob Costas comes out against men in women's sports, describes MAGA as a 'cult'

Sports broadcaster Bob Costas presented several firm opinions surrounding President Biden, President Trump, and men competing in women's sports in fiery appearance on HBO.

Costas, a legendary announcer who has worked on Super Bowls and Olympic Games, appeared on "Real Time with Bill Maher" and provided vehement and firm positions on a variety of issues.

Maher brought up the subject of Lia Thomas, a male who won an NCAA Division I swimming championship competing against females, and noted how much better he performed against women.

"She's much better relatively in competition with women. She's not really at the top, across the board," Costas remarked, adhering to Thomas' preferred pronouns.

"Obviously a lot of people are saying it's not fair," Maher stated, posing the issue back to Costas.

"Without getting too deep into this, the individual federations that govern these sports make up their own rules. ... I understand that when it comes to Olympic boxing, that federation will allow trans-women to compete against biological women, at birth, biological women. That seems crazy."

"It's not transphobic to say let's inject some common sense here; a lot of this is murky," Costas continued.

"We know that some people who use this as an issue actually are hostile toward trans people. ... If someday the best player in the WNBA can play in the NBA, everybody would applaud, but if the worst guy at the end of the bench of the worst team in the NBA went to the WNBA and averaged 40 points a game, everybody knows that's bulls**t."

Bill Maher asks Bob Costas what is the best answer regarding trans competing in sports. Maher asks Costas a simple question: Should trans compete in a separate division?
Bob Costas: "I don't think you want trans athletes competing against other trans athletes"
Caitlin Flanagan:…

Costas also criticized President Biden for continuing to run for re-election despite his apparent cognitive decline. An early February 2024 report from federal authorities stated that if Biden were to present himself to a jury, he would likely be found not guilty of improperly handling classified documents because he would appear "as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

"When it comes to Biden, this is like the truth that no one until very recently wants to say out loud," Costas began. "Joe Biden should've run on a firm promise that he would be a one-term president. The only reason he is president is that he's not Donald Trump," he declared.

"The Dems could've gotten a lot of people in the bullpen and they could've sorted through those people."

The sports announcer also referred to President Trump as a man who is "in many ways" a threat to democracy, while stating that Biden is not able to articulate why Trump should not be re-elected, either.

"The MAGA cult, which is a coalition of the brainless and ... the spineless; that coalition is not going away," the 71-year-old Costas explained.

"Trump and what he represents must be repudiated," he added.

“MAGA must be repudiated.” — Bob Costas

MAGA = Less govt, low taxes, America First, stop the foreign wars & no border invasion.

There's NOTHING unreasonable about it.

The radical left's weaponization of government is what needs to be "repudiated."

Bob Costas tees off on the NBA, LeBron James, and Colin Kaepernick for brushing aside China's human rights abuses

The White House announced Monday that the U.S. will engage in a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympics in response to China's "ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, and other human rights abuses." After the Biden administration announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics, China declared, "The U.S. will pay a price for its practices."

Bob Costas — who was the prime-time TV host for a record 11 Olympics — appeared on CNN to discuss the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. The Hall of Fame announcer also ripped the NBA, LeBron James, and Colin Kaepernick for their lack of criticism of China's record of human rights abuses. Costas also questioned why the International Olympic Committee is cozy with authoritarian nations.

"The Chinese say we'll pay the price for our wrongdoings, but they never want to pay the price or acknowledge their monstrous wrongdoings," Costas said of the Chinese Communist Party.

"What is it with the IOC and their affinity for authoritarian nations? There will be an Olympics — a Summer Olympics — in 2028 in Los Angeles," Costas told CNN host Michael Smerconish. "It will have been since 2002 when the Winter Games were in Salt Lake, since there has been an Olympics on American soil. And yet, American television is the single greatest source of revenue for the IOC."

"Many IOC delegates remain ticked off at the U.S. because a free press blew the cover off the Salt Lake bidding scandal. ... They have long memories about this stuff," Costas added. "And, the IOC and many of those delegates act in a high-handed way. And in that sense, you can see where the affinity for authoritarian nations comes in."

Costas claimed that the CCP attempted to have him fired for remarks he made about China during commentary on NBC at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Beginning in 1996, when I ran afoul of the Chinese because I said as they came in during the opening ceremony in Atlanta, 'You’re looking at the one nation that has the means and the motivation to replicate what the old Soviet Bloc and the Eastern Bloc did with their sports machine,' with all that implies and a few other things," Costas said. "Orchestrated from Beijing, there was an effort to have me fired. NBC would have none of it. Then they said we’ll accept a full public apology in prime time, and I wouldn’t do that. Eventually, it went away.”

Smerconish then mentioned that the NBA is in bed with China. "I have to believe that there are some guys holding their breath watching this, because if this is sufficient grounds for there to be a diplomatic boycott, then what does it say about the NBA doing business in China?"

Costas replied, "The NBA is up to its neck in China. China is a huge sports market. Basketball is especially popular there. But they will put up with not even the slightest criticism. They reject it out of hand. And when they can ... they exact a price."

"Back a couple of years ago when Daryl Morey — then the GM of the Houston Rockets — tweeted 'Stand with Hong Kong,' Rockets games were suddenly off the air for an extended period in China," Costas explained. "And the Rockets are one of the most popular teams there because Yao Ming was the first big Chinese star in the NBA."

"More recently, Enes Kanter, who grew up in Turkey ... he spoke out against China," he continued. "Same thing. Celtics games, like that, gone. I guarantee you that the feed of this conversation is gone in China right now."

Enes Kanter Freedom — who plays center for the Celtics — has been extremely critical of the Chinese Communist Party. The basketball player has delivered pro-Tibet remarks, condemned China's brutal oppression of the Uighurs, and slammed Chinese President Xi Jinping as a "brutal dictator." China removed Celtics games from Chinese TV in October.

Smerconish theorized that "most Americans are not dialed in on the issue" of China's record of human rights violations and "just want to make sure there is an iPhone under the tree in three weeks."

Costas noted that the United States is dependent on China for products, including Nike — which has pushed progressive agendas in advertisements, but CEO John Donahue said in June, "Nike is a brand that is of China and for China."

"By the way, a lot of Nike’s goods that benefit the likes of Colin Kaepernick and LeBron James — made in China," Costas said of the athletes who have been outspoken social justice activists. "And those outspoken individuals, and in many cases, I think millions of Americans would agree with their positions on domestic issues, but they are conspicuously mum when it comes to China. And no matter what the issues are here, and they are serious issues, in terms of dimension, they pale alongside what’s going on there."
