Brit Hume delivers scorching rebuke of Jan. 6 committee, says he's never seen anything like this in his 50 years covering DC

Brit Hume delivered a scathing rebuke of the January 6 committee this week. The Fox News senior political analyst noted that in 50 years of covering Washington, D.C. politics, he's "never seen a committee all of whose members were chosen by one party."

Hume was responding to a tweet by Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York.

"There's a long tradition of adversarial process in congressional hearings/investigations," York wrote on Friday. "You don't have to compare it to a trial to know something is wrong with the J6 committee."

Hume tacked on to York's post, "I've covered Washington for more than 50 years, including 11 years covering Congress specifically. I’ve never seen a committee all of whose members were chosen by one party, and where there is no cross-examination or any attempt to present both sides."

“I’ve covered Washington for more than 50 years, including 11 years covering Congress specifically. I’ve never seen a committee all of whose members were chosen by one party, and where there is no cross-examination or any attempt to present both sides.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) pushed back against Hume's assertation.

"Hey Brit. It’s been all Republicans testifying. Definitely one-sided, just not in how you think it is," the "never-Trump" Republican tweeted. "And as you well know, Kevin McCarthy took his ball and went home. You all sound nervous."

Hume had previously hammered the Jan. 6 committee for being partisan.

On June 11, Hume labeled the primetime hearing as an "utterly one-sided presentation."

On June 7, he tweeted, "It is not normal for a supposedly bipartisan committee to have its members all chosen by one party."

Hume included a video clip of his appearance on Fox News' "Special Report."

Hume pointed out that the Jan. 6 committee is comprised of Democrats Adam Schiff, Jamie Raskin, Bennie Thompson, Zoe Lofgren, Pete Aguilar, Stephanie Murphy, and Elaine Luria. He also noted that the "one-sided" committee had anti-Trump Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger hand-selected by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Hume called Cheney and Kinzinger are "Republican members who could be counted on to agree with the conclusions already reached by" Pelosi.

"This is very much a partisan hearing, which is not to say that interesting facts won’t come out and they won’t make an interesting presentation in primetime but, look, this is only partially a hearing to determine the facts," Hume told host Brett Baier. "It is as much as anything else an effort to give the Democrats an issue that they can run on when nearly all the other issues that people care about are working against them."

Rasmussen Reports noted that the Capitol riot or the January 6 committee did not make the top nine midterm issues for U.S. voters. However, issues that are hurting Democrats make up the top four: rising gas prices, inflation, the economy, and violent crime.

“Note to @brithume on The Jan 6th Committee Hearings:

You are certainly not alone in noticing inconsistencies of due process, balance and basic fairness. And perhaps more than anything, their complete disconnect with what most national likley voters are actually concerned about.”
— Rasmussen Reports (@Rasmussen Reports) 1656707118

Hume conceded that President Donald Trump's behavior following the 2020 election was "outrageous" and "utterly disgraceful." However, he doesn't believe that the Jan. 6 committee will be able to prove that the United States was close to losing its democracy, as Democrats have blustered.

Hume said on June 23, "The 1/6 committee is pounding home the point that Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election. He certainly did. But the testimony has not come close to establishing Chairman Bennie Thompson's claim that we came 'critically close to losing our democracy' that day."

"That's because, as the testimony has shown, Trump's scheme was utterly half-assed," he continued. "The legal theory on which it rested was ridiculous. Its linchpin was refusal by vice president Pence to refuse to count the 2020 electoral votes showing Joe Biden the winner. When Pence refused, the scheme collapsed."

"All this happened in the context of an ugly riot, which Trump had triggered, not by what he said on 1/6 but by the stolen-election bs he had been feeding his supporters for two months," he stated. "In the end, the electoral vote count was delayed for several hours, but went forward that day. Outrageous behavior by a president unable to admit error or defeat to be sure. But the near-death of American democracy? Not even close."

Last July, Pelosi rejected two appointees chosen by Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to serve on the House Select Committee to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. In response to Pelosi rejecting House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), McCarthy yanked all five of the Republicans he had selected to sit on the January 6 committee.

Glenn Beck: New Durham report is 'TOTAL VINDICATION' for Trump

Special Counsel John Durham is prepared to argue in court that Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign paid a "tech executive" to spy on the Trump campaign and the White House in order to fabricate the narrative that Donald Trump was colluding with Russia. According to a bombshell new report, there’s now even more evidence criminalizing the Clinton campaign — but still, it’s not enough for the mainstream media to admit such claims or enough for them to even cover the story.

Social media, on the other hand, was all-a-twitter, and the hashtags #TrumpWasRight, #LockHerUp, and #TrumpWasRightAboutEverything have been lighting up the internet.

On The radio program Monday, Glenn Beck broke down the findings of the new Durham report, which he called a "total vindication" of former President Donald Trump. Glenn also explained why he believes Trump was right when he called this revelation proof that Clinton committed a "bigger crime than Watergate."

'Bad faith my a**': Brit Hume defends Fox News reporter challenging Joe Biden on contradictory pandemic messages

Veteran Fox News journalist Brit Hume slapped down criticism against his colleague after he challenged President Joe Biden about his contradictory messaging on the coronavirus pandemic.

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Biden in a media briefing Monday to explain why his messaging had so drastically changed after the election.

"So you just said that you think, that within three weeks or so, we'll be at the point where there are a million vaccines per day," Doocy said, "but it seems like..."

"No I think we'll get there before that," interrupted Biden, "I misspoke, I hope we'll able to increase as we go along, until we get to the million five [thousand] a day, that's my expectation, my hope."

"And then, the followup to that would be, alright, now that you're president and you're saying, 'There's nothing we can do to change the trajectory in the next several months,'" Doocy continued. "What happened to two months ago when you were talking declaratively, about, 'I am going to shut down the virus'?"

"Well I am gonna shut down the virus, I never said I would do it in two months!" Biden responded.

"I said it took a long time to get here, it will take a long time to beat it," he explained. "And so we have millions of people out there who have the virus."

Doocy faced some critics on social media who didn't like his question and accused him of acting in bad faith.

"Bad faith my a**," Hume responded.

"It led to Biden acknowledging that he misspoke, then proceeding to raise his oft-repeated vaccination goal of 100 million after it had become clear we were already on the way to achieving that when he took office," he added. "So much for @PDoocy being there 'wasting time.'"

Hume was referring to a controversy surrounding a promise Biden made to vaccinate 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of his presidency. Some noted that the goal was already likely to be met under the rate of vaccinations achieved by the former Trump administration.

The Biden administration has also faced steep criticism for baseless accusations made against the previous administration. CNN ran with quotes from anonymous sources inside the administration claiming there was no system at all for implementing vaccines, but that claim was immediately disputed by none other than Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser to Biden.

New York Times editor gets scorched online for tweeting her 'chills' at Biden's arrival in Maryland

An editor at the New York Times faced online condemnation and ridicule after she tweeted that she had gotten "chills" from seeing that President-elect Joe Biden had landed in Maryland just ahead of Inauguration Day.

"Biden landing at Joint Base Andrews now. I have chills," Lauren Wolfe said in a tweet with a screenshot of a report from CNN showing Biden's plane landing.

Among those criticizing Wolfe for her reaction was Brit Hume, the veteran journalist at Fox News.

"I hope it's because it's cold out. But I suspect not," said Hume.

— Brit Hume (@Brit Hume)1611096124.0

Wolfe responded to his tweet and claimed that she had merely been expressing excitement over the historical importance of the transition of presidential power.

"Really, Brit? You've never felt excited at historical moments? Stop inciting your fans who are coming after me with threats. This was an innocuous tweet and you know it," she replied.

She later deleted that tweet.

Wolfe also responded to another critic who tweeted, "A journalist having 'chills' before a president is even sworn in is chilling... Not in your sense of the word, though."

"I'm shocked that you all don't feel the importance. Such historical events are deeply moving and thrilling. This attempt to s**t on me is nothing more than shortsighted presumption," she responded.

She also deleted that tweet.

Wolfe lashed out in general at her critics over the responses to her "chills" tweet.

"So a bunch of people think me being excited for the transfer of power tomorrow is somehow disgusting/idiotic/against journalism. It's a shame. We should all be interested on historical moments," she added.

Other social media users didn't find her explanation sufficient.

"You are a biased hack. Were those chills present in 2016? Or were you too busy foaming at the mouth to have chills?" said one respondent.

"Nothing wrong with being excited about Trump being gone or Biden being sworn in. But, given your *job*, you're not supposed to say it out loud or make it super obvious. Makes you look like a cheerleader, not a reporter. Tell your friends," responded another user.

Wolfe then asked if there was some kind of "gross organizing" to criticize journalists.

"So, Ben Shapiro attacked one of my tweets a few days ago, despite the fact that I blocked him years ago. Now Brit Hume has sicced his followers on me (based on nothing), so I have to wonder: Is there some gross organizing to come after journalists they think are not objective?" she asked.

She also deleted that tweet minutes later.

Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are set to be sworn in at noon EST Wednesday on the west front of the Capitol, in a ceremony with about 1,000 attendees, including Congress.

President Donald Trump said unequivocally that he would not be attending the inauguration Wednesday of his successor.

Reporters slammed for giving Biden softball questions; Trump: 'Those questions meant for a child'

Joe Biden fielded questions on Friday, his second press conference this week, after going a month without answering questions from reporters. However, the media didn't exactly press the Democratic presidential candidate.

Critics, as well as President Donald Trump, took note that reporters tossed easy softball questions to Biden.

What are the details?

Many of the questions presented to Biden at Friday's press conference in Wilmington, Delaware, were about Trump.

In reference to The Atlantic article that made the accusations against the president using four anonymous sources, Atlantic staff writer Edward-Isaac Dovere opened up the press conference by asking Biden, "What does it tell you about President Trump's soul and the life he leads?"

Talking about the report, CBS News correspondent Ed O'Keefe asked Biden, "There are people out there who are supporting you or are inclined to not vote for the president who would be inclined to say, 'Why isn't Joe Biden angrier about all of this?'"

ABC News correspondent Mary Bruce asked Biden about President Trump's comments this week about testing the system by voting in-person as well as using mail-in ballots if the vote is not initially tabulated.

Biden was also asked his opinion on QAnon conspiracy theory supporters and why President Trump hasn't rejected it.

"I've been a big supporter of mental health," Biden responded. "I'd recommend that the people who believe it maybe should take advantage of it while it still exists in the Affordable Care Act. It's bizarre. Totally bizarre."

CNN's MJ Lee brought up Trump's comments about Biden wearing a mask.

On Thursday at a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump asked his supporters about Biden's use of face masks, "Did you ever see a man who likes a mask as much as him?"

"He has it hanging down. Because it gives him a feeling of security," Trump continued. "If I were a psychiatrist, right, you know I'd say: 'This guy's got some big issues. Hanging down. Hanging down.'"

Lee asked the former vice president, "I wonder if you worry that this kind of language that comes from the president of the United States can deter some Americans who are tuning into him to not wear masks?"

President Trump slammed the media for the softball questions given to his political opponent, saying the inquiries were "meant for a child."

"I watched the interview with sleepy Joe Biden and … you didn't ask questions like that," Trump said at a press briefing on Friday night, reported by The Hill. "They were like, meant for a child. Those questions were meant for a child."

"Smiles on faces of reporters — not like you and you," the president said to reporters in the briefing room. "They were smiles on the reporters. What do you think? Take a look at those questions that they asked him. They were not meant for a grown-up, they were meant for a child."

"I look at that and I think it's a disgrace," Trump said. "And then I watch Biden getting asked questions that are really meant for a child to answer, anybody could answer. And I look at the level of question that you people ask. I mean honestly, it's disgraceful."
