Philadelphia youth football coach shoots fellow coach during kids' practice session: Report

A youth football coach in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is accused of shooting at individuals in the stands during a Saturday practice session, Newsweek has reported.

What are the details?

According to the report, the unnamed coach reportedly fired several shots at people in the stands, striking at least two spectators — one of whom was believed to be a fellow coach.

The shooting was said to have followed an argument. KYW-TV reported that the argument is believed to have taken place over a woman.

Both victims were transported to nearby Temple University Hospital and are believed to be in stable condition.

No arrests have been made at the time of this reporting, and the gunman is reportedly not in custody at this time.

What else is there to know about this?

KYW's Joe Holden tweeted cell phone video footage believed to show the Saturday shooting, captioning it, "CBS3 obtained this video from police sources of a double shooting at 11th and Cecil B. Moore from earlier this evening. High school students were practicing at the time. No injuries to them. Two shooting victims are stable. Police are searching for the shooter."

In the video, a handful of people can be seen sitting in the stands.

Two males were standing and speaking face to face while gesturing with their hands.

The video shows one of the males pulling out what is believed to be a gun and firing on the individual.

The group quickly disperses while the gunman begins chasing the victim around the stands.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner condemned the shooting in a statement.

"It's extremely disturbing. The effect is that people are desensitized to it," he said. "It seems normal that there are gunshots [that] are going on and that is not how our youth should be living. It is not how they should be growing up."

Philadelphia Police Department Captain John Walker told WCAU-TV that parents continue for their children's safety over such incidents.

“When shots are fired like this, it shatters all the peace and quiet in this neighborhoods and creates a problem. Parents are obviously scared here,” Walker said.

Gas station manager credits gun-wielding clerk, his dog for saving his life during intense armed robbery caught on video

A Philadelphia gas station manager is crediting his dog, a firearm kept inside the store, and an employee's quick actions to use the gun for saving his life amid an armed robbery attempt Tuesday morning.

What happened?

Surveillance video obtained by WTXF-TV showed that at approximately 4 a.m., two would-be robbers stormed into the Big A convenience store brandishing firearms in an apparent attempt to steal money from the cash register.

The intruders, both male, appeared to be carrying handguns. The first intruder strode around an aisle and approached a female clerk, while the second followed behind and can be seen pulling a handgun from his waistband.

But as the first intruder approached, the store manager's dog jumped on him, allowing just enough time for the female clerk to grab the store gun and open fire.

The gunshots sent the suspects abruptly fleeing the store in fear for their lives, but not before at least one of them rattled off several return shots.

The incident reportedly occurred in the 5500 block of Torresdale Avenue in Philadelphia's Wissinoming neighborhood.

What else?

Following the harrowing incident, Big A manager Sammy Eloubahi recalled that "two people come with a big gun and small gun, they come in straight up and put the gun to the girl’s head and my head and said like don’t move."

According to KYW-TV, police reported that the 32-year-old female clerk, who has not been identified, was shot four times in the incident and was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.

Thankfully, according to Eloubahi, she is "fine" and doing much "better."

Eloubahi told reporters that "the gun saved her life and my life," in reference to the employee.

He was quick to add that his dog named Bullet, too, was pertinent in keeping him and his employee alive.

"If he didn’t move the guy and cover him, he [would've shot] the girl before she [shot] him," he claimed. "He did help. ... He saved my life and her life."

Anything else?

No arrests have been made, and police are still investigating the incident. But WTFX reported that a man matching the description of one of the suspects was later dropped off at Temple University Hospital with gunshot wounds. One of the suspects also reportedly left behind his gun as he fled the store.

Eloubahi said his store has only been open one year, and it has already been targeted by robbers twice. He lamented the senseless violence he has seen in the city of Philadelphia

"This was gonna kill somebody for no reason," he said.
