Chicago man beats down home intruder with a large frying pan, and it's all caught on security video: 'Almost killed him!'

A man in Chicago beat a home intruder with a large frying pan, and the altercation was caught on the man's surveillance video.

Jason Williams said his security app notified him of a potential break-in at his residence on Thursday at about 3:30 p.m. So, after rushing home he armed himself with the closest weapon he had at hand: a large frying pan.

'He’s lucky the cops came. I was putting a good beating on him.. he owes me a new [f]rying pan!'

The 45-year-old confronted the intruder and used the pan to chase him out of his home on the 3400 block of West Parker.

Video shows the home intruder running out of the front of the home and jumping over the steps in an attempt to get away from Williams who is following after him and swinging the frying pan at him.

After the two are out of frame, pounding noises can be heard on the footage.

Moments later, police arrived and arrested the alleged intruder, who they said was a 33-year-old man. They transported him to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was treated. He was assessed to be in good condition.

Police said Williams refused treatment but opted to press charges against the intruder.

The video was obtained and published by the Law and Crime Network on its YouTube video channel.

Williams posted about the altercation on his account on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"I just caught a f***ing burgler in my house. Holy s***.:. Almost killed him,Hit him with a frying pan! Got him!!!" he posted with a photograph of the frying pan he used.

He then posted a photograph of the man being loaded into an ambulance.

"Here’s the guy that tried to burgler me. He’s lucky the cops came. I was putting a good beating on him.. he owes me a new [f]rying pan!" he wrote.

"Got some good licks inside and the back," he added in a third tweet with the surveillance video. "Keystone cops theme should be added for laughs. I’m ok. Guys gonna have a headache tomorrow and was taken away by the ambulance."

There are over 100,000 robberies and burglaries in Chicago every year, according to the Law and Crime Network.

Chicago couple attacked so brutally wife suffers miscarriage; teen suspects charged only with misdemeanor

A pair of Chicago teens were assessed just one misdemeanor charge each after they and others allegedly attacked a couple so brutally that their female victim suffered a miscarriage.

On Friday evening, a 41-year-old woman identified only as Nina was walking home with her husband after going out on a date. Nina had taken advantage of the opportunity to look nice for her husband, donning a dress and heels for the occasion.

'We believe in faith, and it wasn't meant to be. So, we don't know why this happened to us.'

At about 8:30 p.m., the couple reached the intersection of Grand Avenue and McClurg Court in the Streeterville neighborhood when suddenly a group of teens allegedly jumped them from behind. "Everything happened from behind us. First, someone approached him and punched him in the head," Nina said of her husband.

Her husband implored Nina to run, but the assailants prevented her escape. One girl allegedly dragged Nina to the ground and pulled on her hair with such force that she tore chunks of hair out of Nina's scalp.

"I start screaming, she started pepper-spraying me right in the face, in the eyes," Nina claimed.

Nina also sustained repeated punches and kicks to her stomach. When her husband attempted to protect her, the gang descended upon him, and Nina estimated to FOX 32 that "over 10 people" held him down.

The suspects ran away after police arrived on the scene. However, officers managed to nab two teens — a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl — believed to have been involved in the assault. Both have been assessed just one count of misdemeanor battery and are no longer in police custody.

Alderman Brian Hopkins has since contacted the state's attorney's office, hoping that the charges will be upgraded to a felony. "Both victims suffered extensive injuries," he noted to FOX 32.

Indeed, they did. In fact, there was apparently a third victim in the attack as Nina was a couple of weeks' pregnant at the time. She later learned she had lost the baby.

"We believe in faith, and it wasn't meant to be. So, we don't know why this happened to us," she said.

Nina and her husband are still trying to make sense of the attack against them since there seemed to be no motive for it. "They didn't steal anything. They say like, 'We own the street. We own the street. You can't walk around,'" she recalled.

"They dragged my dress on the ground, and they said, like, 'We own the street. You can’t just walk around prancing in your little dress.' And they were saying things that just didn't make any sense to me because they don't know me personally."

Police told FOX 32 that the incident remains under investigation. The outlet asked the state's attorney's office whether other charges might be forthcoming but did not receive a response.

Chicago man sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting 7-year-old cousin during school livestream class

A Chicago man was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old female relative. The child sex crime was caught on video during the girl's remote-learning class.

Catrell Walls, 21, pleaded guilty to a felony sexual assault charge on Wednesday. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped two other related felony charges and an unrelated, prior weapons charge, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The judge sentenced Walls to 11 years in prison.

On Oct. 15, 2020, the 7-year-old girl was at her grandmother's home and participating in her first-grade remote-learning class. The class was given a short break, and the teacher instructed students to turn off their cameras and mute their microphones. The 7-year-old girl reportedly muted her computer but did not turn off the camera on the laptop during the Google Meets session.

WFLD reported, "When the teacher opened the screen back into her online class, she saw the 7-year-old girl with her pants pulled down and Walls forcing her to perform oral sex, prosecutors said."

The teacher allegedly immediately yelled for the other students to log off. The teacher said Walls picked up the laptop and shut it closed.

The teacher informed the school's principal of the sexual assault she witnessed during the remote-learning class. The principal contacted the girl's family, Chicago police, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, prosecutors said.

The girl's father, the principal, and the school's chief executive officer went to the South Side home. According to prosecutors, the girl said she was sexually assaulted by her cousin, and stated that he sexually abused her in the past.

The girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital for examination.

Walls – an 18-year-old high schooler at the time – was arrested the next day. During an interrogation by detectives, Walls reportedly confessed to sexually assaulting his cousin during the livestream class. He also allegedly admitted to sexually abusing his cousin since she turned 6 years old during the interview with detectives.

"I don’t know why, I’m sorry, I’m sorry," Walls told officers as he broke down in tears during his confession, according to Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Andreana Turano.

Turano said at a bond hearing that the girl told investigators that the sexual abuse is a "secret," and added, "I don’t want my daddy to know."

During the trial, Walls' attorney claimed his client had been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, which impairs his ability to control his impulses.

Months-long investigation busts human-trafficking enterprise, sex crime syndicate operated in 6 Chicago suburbs: Police

Illinois authorities busted a human-trafficking enterprise that operated in six Chicago suburbs, according to police.

Following a months-long investigation into human trafficking, five people have been arrested. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and the St. Charles Police Department made the announcement on Thursday.

Between Feb. 17 and Wednesday, authorities arrested five suspects who are accused of forcing seven women to engage in prostitution or face repercussions. Officials said all of the women were from South America and brought to the United States for the purpose of sex trafficking.

The seven victims were taken into protective custody on Wednesday morning.

Police arrested Hector Briseno, 54, of Chicago; Christian Hurtado, 27, of Elgin; Daniel Hurtado, 26, of South Elgin; Martha P. Hurtado-Hernandez, 57, of Chicago; and Rigoberto Parra, 46, of Aurora.

All of the suspects were charged with involuntary servitude, trafficking in persons for labor, and promoting prostitution for profit.

Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo set bail for each of the suspects at $5 million with $500,000 to apply for bond, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office said in a statement, "The defendants procured locations for the commercial sexual activity, transported the victims to the locations to engage in the sexual activity and advertised that the victims were available for commercial sexual activity. The defendants physically restrained the victims by confining them to a residence, intimidated the victims with threats if they did not engage in the sexual activity, and maintained financial control over the victims."

Authorities initially discovered a brothel in the Chicago suburb of St. Charles, according to WGN-TV. However, investigators soon discovered the human-trafficking enterprise also operated in Aurora, Chicago, Elgin, Hanover Park, unincorporated Palatine, and South Elgin.

Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser said, "I wish to commend the St. Charles Police Department for recognizing this situation as human trafficking and not one in which people are simply charged for sex acts and treated as offenders and not victims. Additionally, my thanks to the Aurora, Elgin, Hanover Park, and South Elgin police departments for their assistance in this investigation, as well as the Department of Homeland Security Investigations."

The suspects are scheduled to return to court on July 28.

Twin newborn baby girls found dead in bathroom garbage bag at Chicago day care

Twin newborn baby girls were found dead inside a garbage bag at a day care center in Chicago, according to authorities.

Janitorial workers reportedly discovered two newborn babies inside a first-floor bathroom of the Bernice Lavin Early Childhood Education Center shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday.

WBBM-TV reported, "According to unconfirmed police dispatch reports, a cleaning crew spotted some blood during their shift, but when they followed the trail, they found the two newborns."

The infants were found unresponsive in a black garbage bag, police said. The babies were rushed to the Lurie Children’s Hospital – where they were pronounced dead.

The Chicago Police Department said, "Chicago police are conducting death investigations after two newborn girls were found dead inside a childcare center bathroom in Streeterville. Dispatchers told responding officers that the babies were in a trash bag. The children were not breathing when first responders arrived."

It was not immediately known the cause of death for the newborn babies.

The Bernice Lavin Early Childhood Education Center is located on the campus of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago.

Sources close to the investigation reportedly told WLS-TV that a 29-year-old woman was found in a first-floor bathroom covered in blood. Someone called 911, and the woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after experiencing an emergency medical situation.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the woman is a day care employee who "abruptly left class" before going to the bathroom, where she was found by co-workers, and they called an ambulance for emergency assistance.

"An emergency medical situation involving a daycare employee occurred this evening at the daycare facility on the Northwestern Memorial Hospital campus," said Northwestern spokesman Christopher King. "No daycare children were involved or impacted by the situation."

"The Chicago Fire and Police Departments were called," King added. "We are working with CPD regarding this incident and unable to comment further at this time."

According to WLS-TV, "In an email sent to parents, the company managing the daycare says the emergency resulted in the unanticipated delivery of twin babies."

The day care center released a statement that read: "We are heartbroken by the tragic situation that occurred at the Bernice E. Lavin Childhood Education Center when a staff member experienced a medical emergency that resulted in the unanticipated delivery of newborn twin babies. All children and families enrolled at the center are safe and none were involved in the incident."

"We will be providing emotional and mental health support to all members of our center team and families," the statement continued. "We ask for support and respect for everyone involved at this time as we grieve together and work to support each other and any ensuing investigation."

There were reportedly no arrests regarding the tragic case as of Friday afternoon.

1 dead, 20 shot during Juneteenth celebration in Chicago suburb: 'It was chaos'

One person is dead and at least 20 people were shot during a Juneteenth celebration in a Chicago suburb, according to authorities.

The mass shooting occurred at a strip mall hosting a large Juneteenth party in Willowbrook, Illinois.

Battalion Chief Joe Ostrander with the Tri-State Fire Protection District said around 12:30 a.m., gunfire rang out at a strip mall on Route 83 near Honeysuckle Rose Lane, about 20 miles southwest of Chicago.

There were reportedly "at least 200 teens and young adults" gathered in a parking lot for a Juneteenth celebration when as many as 30 shots were fired.

Witness Markeshia Avery told WLS-TV, "It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration. We just started hearing shooting, so we dropped down until they stopped."

"We were all just out, and, next thing you know shots just kept going off; everybody ran, and it was chaos," witness Craig Lotcie said.

Witness Zaviar Sheikh added, "We just heard gunshots; at first it was one, but then it was a whole bunch of gunshots. After then we started running like, 'yo.' I looked at my friend, and we took off, running like crazy."

Eric Swanson, deputy chief at the DuPage County sheriff's office, explained, "There were at least 20 individuals shot. One victim is deceased. The motive behind this incident is unclear. ... We transported numerous victims from the scene. Others just walked into area hospitals."

Two of the people who were shot are in critical condition, while others suffered "graze wounds," fire department officials told WBBM-TV.

Police did not reveal a motive for the shooting.

Police were still at the crime scene as of Sunday morning conducting the investigation into the deadly shooting.

Chicago shootings: 50 people shot, 10 fatally this weekend. New video shows criminals armed with makeshift machine guns open fire on crowd, killing 14 year old.

Chicago suffered yet another bloody weekend as scores of shootings erupted throughout the city. Shooting fatalities reached double digits for the second weekend in a row.

WLS-TV reported on Sunday night, "At least 50 people have been shot, 10 fatally, in Chicago shootings so far this weekend, police said."

There were 51 people shot, including 12 fatally, during Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.

Included in this weekend's rampant gun violence was a tragic mass shooting in the Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side.

A large group gathered to commemorate a man who perished in a fatal car crash four years earlier, according to police. A verbal altercation erupted during the tribute for the deceased man, which then quickly escalated into a deadly gunfight, said Deputy Chief Adnardo Gutierrez of the Chicago Police Department.

"They were out there celebrating and then something happened, and a verbal altercation occurred, and somebody began shooting, or multiple people began shooting,” Gutierrez said during a press conference on Sunday.

Surveillance video shows the moment that gunfire erupts. People at the celebration of life event run for their lives. The footage shows a gunman behind a car shooting his firearm.

A 25-year-old woman was fatally shot and six other people were wounded. The woman was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital. The six other victims were hospitalized, including a 29-year-old man in critical condition with a chest wound.

Police are still investigating the mass shooting, and no suspects have been arrested as of Sunday afternoon.

The heartbreaking gun violence was not only reserved for the weekend.

CWB Chicago released chilling video of a group of criminals armed with makeshift machine guns opening fire on a crowd. The alarming video reportedly shows a fatal shooting that happened around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

The shocking video released on Sunday shows four armed suspects scurrying through a vacant lot and hiding behind bushes and a building. Then they all spring out and unleash a hailstorm of gunfire into a crowd not seen on the video. Two of the shooters were using machine gun-like firearms.

CWB Chicago reported, "The offenders whose guns generated automatic fire were likely using handguns equipped with 'Glock switches,' illegal after-market devices that enable semi-automatic pistols to fire more than one round with a single trigger pull. The devices are prohibited under state and federal laws."

The shooting killed 14-year-old Pierre Johnson after he was shot in the chest. Two men, ages 18 and 19, were critically wounded. A 21-year-old man was shot in the hand.

Officers with the Chicago Police Department responded to the shooting. When they arrived at the crime scene, a 16-year-old boy shot at them, and they returned fire.

The boy was found with a gunshot wound to his leg, but investigators said it was not clear if he was shot by police or the earlier shooting.

The boy was arrested and charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder of peace officers, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm toward a vehicle occupied by peace officers, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle, and unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21, according to police.

Video: Chicago father robbed at gunpoint on front porch in broad daylight with children near, police say same armed bandits may have pulled off 48 similar heists

Crime in Chicago continues to leave locals on edge as criminals continue to pull off brazen robberies. A Chicago father was robbed at gunpoint on the front porch of his home in broad daylight with his children near the scary situation. Police suspect the same armed bandits may have pulled off nearly 50 similar heists in recent weeks.

The audacious armed robbery occurred in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood — a predominantly Hispanic community.

Victor Galena Sr. was on his way to work around 6 a.m. on Friday. However, Galena didn't make it off his front porch before being robbed at gunpoint by several men wearing black ski masks.

Three men were robbed during the harrowing ordeal.

Victor Galena Jr. told WBBM-TV of his father being robbed, "The first guy that was standing closer to the truck – he got the guns pulled out to him, and from there, that's when they started pointing a gun at my dad, and the other guy who was up here on those stairs."

The father put aside his own safety and was more concerned about his family still asleep inside the house – his wife, five children, sister, and nephews. Galena Sr. stood in the doorway to stop the thieves from entering his home.

"In case they try to force their way in there, then he was going to fight back,” the son said.

Galena Jr. said of his dad, "He says he doesn't feel like a hero. It was just mostly like a father's instinct that kicked in."

The group of armed thugs stole money that Galena Sr. and his two companions planned to spend on construction tools that day, according to the New York Post.

The crew of thieves fled the crime scene. The Chicago Police Department said the same group robbed at least 10 other victims. Police suspect that the criminal squad could be behind 48 armed robberies and carjackings around Chicago's West and Northwest sides since April 22.

The police said the posse targets residents leaving for or arriving at their jobs in the early morning hours.

The Chicago Police described the suspects in a community alert, "Three to four African American male subjects, ranging from 17-21 years of age, wearing black ski masks, dark clothing, and blue gloves."

Law enforcement said the suspects were driving a stolen vehicle.

Police had yet to arrest anyone connected to the armed robberies.

Chicago was besieged by a rash of violent crimes last weekend. There were more than 50 people shot and over 10 killed in Chicago during Memorial Day weekend gun violence, despite city and state leaders touting "peacekeepers" patrolling the streets.

According to CPD statistics, robberies are up 16%, theft increased 17%, and motor vehicle thefts skyrocketed 133% in the past year.

51 shot, 12 fatally in Chicago Memorial Day weekend shootings, 2-year-old girl shot herself after finding gun

Chicago suffered yet another bloody Memorial Day weekend with at least 51 people shot, including 12 who were fatally shot. The widespread gun violence occurred despite dozens of "peacekeepers' patrolling the Windy City in an attempt to decrease bloodshed.

WFLD reported that by Sunday night, 12 people had been shot and killed during Memorial Day weekend.

HeyJacksass.com, a site dedicated to gun violence statistics in Chicago, reported that there were 10 people shot and killed in Chicago on Saturday. The site noted that in the more than 10 years of covering gun violence in Chicago, there were only three other days that tallied 10 or more homicides: 6/27/2020: 10 killed, 7/4/2020: 11 killed, 5/31/2020: 18 killed.

There were at least 39 people wounded in shootings around the city, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Of the wounded in Memorial Day weekend violence was a 2-year-old girl, who purportedly shot herself with a gun she found.

Around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, a toddler found a gun in the Chicago neighborhood of Rogers Park. The baby accidentally shot herself, according to police.

WLS Reported, "Police said the 2-year-old girl found a handgun and accidentally discharged it, shooting herself in the hand. She was transported to St. Francis Hospital in good condition."

At 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, a 14-year-old girl was reportedly standing on the sidewalk with a group of people in the neighborhood of Englewood when shots were fired. The girl was grazed in the right arm by the bullet, but she allegedly refused treatment.

One person was reportedly shot and killed on Saturday less than two blocks from the West Side home of newly-elected Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Days earlier, the progressive Democrat mayor unveiled his plan to cut down on violence in Chicago.

"My administration’s top priority is making sure there is a comprehensive, whole of government strategy across our city and that its making people safe,” Johnson said at a news conference on Thursday.

In anticipation of Memorial Day weekend violence, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced on Tuesday that there would be 30 "peacekeepers" to try to stop crime.

The initiative called the Citywide Crisis Prevention and Response Unit (CPRU) will send peacekeepers into Chicago streets to "provide essential assistance in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis support across Chicago."

Within hours of opening beaches in Chicago, the city was forced to shut down the popular North Avenue Beach after gunshots erupted when two groups of teens confronted each other.

Video: Chicago beach closed within hours after opening when gunshots erupt; Gov. Pritzker deploys 'peacekeepers' in anticipation of Memorial Day weekend violence

The city of Chicago opened all 22 area beaches on Friday morning. However, one of the busiest beaches was closed only hours after opening because gunshots rang out.

Chicago's North Avenue Beach opened at 11 a.m. on Friday. Police responded to several shots fired around 1:26 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Lake Shore Drive at the North Avenue Beach.

Video shows two groups of teens angrily confronting each other before gunshots erupt. There were approximately 100 people in the area when the shooting occurred. Video shows the windows of a Chicago Park District truck shot out.

WLS-TV reported, "The nearby Latin school said in an email to parents that students were gathered for is annual Olympics Day game when the police SUV sped through the park. No kids were injured, but the incident was alarming."

\u201cFollowing the shots fired, police found a group of gang members and proceeded to chase them through the south end of Lincoln Park.\n\nTwo guns were recovered as children played in the park.\n\nVideo was originally tweeted by @samjcharles\n\n#Chicago\u201d

The Chicago Police Department said there were no injuries reported. Police did note that several people were taken to the hospital to be treated for intoxication.

The North Avenue Beach was immediately closed, as was the nearby bike path.

WBBM-TV reported, "Police said a group of young men got into a fight on the beach when someone pulled out a gun and started shooting."

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy, who they claim was the shooter. The suspect was charged with one count of aggravated assault discharge of firearm, and one count of criminal damage to property worth $500 to $10,000, both felonies.

Police did not find the gun used in the shooting.

"The person who fired the weapon was observed," said Interim CPD Supt. Fred Waller. "He was taken into custody after a very, very short foot pursuit. Another subject in the same area was also observed running away with a weapon and he was taken into custody. Two weapons were recovered from him."

The shooting happened less than 24 hours after newly-elected Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, unveiled a plan to attempt to combat violence during the Memorial Day weekend.

"In preparing for Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer in Chicago, it is critical that we have as many stakeholders as possible at the table to ensure peace and safety on our city's streets," Johnson said.

In anticipation of Memorial Day weekend violence, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced the deployment of 30 "peacekeepers."

The initiative called the Citywide Crisis Prevention and Response Unit (CPRU) will send peacekeepers into Chicago streets to "provide essential assistance in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis support across Chicago."

The Illinois Department of Human Services said of the Citywide Crisis Prevention and Response Unit: "The Office of Firearm Violence Prevention is working to aggressively implement strategies that advance public safety. The peacekeepers serve as first responders in their communities. FLIP has a track record of success and the State is doing its part to ensure these individuals are properly resourced."

The city is reportedly funding the peacekeepers with funds that were originally dedicated to the pandemic.

Despite having strict gun laws, Chicago has a reputation for widespread gun violence during Memorial Day weekend.

In 2020, there were 49 people shot and 10 were killed despite there being a stay-at-home order in place at the time.

There were 37 shot and three killed in 2021.

Last year, 51 people were shot and nine killed in Chicago.
