Chicago cops called out by columnist for letting women twerk on top of police vehicle, encouraging 'mayhem' in the streets

A Chicago Sun-Times columnist called out city police for letting a trio of women twerk on top of a police vehicle as seen in a viral cellphone video — and for encouraging "mayhem" in the streets.

Looks like the Chicago Police Department's emphasis on "positive community interactions" is taking off! Great to se… https://t.co/2Nwz35vO5u

— CWBChicago (@CWBChicago) 1622922467.0

What are the details?

Mary Mitchell indicated in her piece that the notorious clip has received more than a million views and that it seems to be part of "some trend."

She recalled another viral moment a few years back when a pair of women were caught on video twerking atop a police car in Rochester, New York.

Rochester Police Chief Michael L. Ciminelli told TheBlaze in a statement after the 2017 incident that the clip portrayed "an inappropriate and unacceptable image for the Rochester Police Department" and that the issue was "addressed."

Late last month, St. Louis officials and residents were left disgusted by videos showing a group of late-night revelers jumping on top of a police car with an officer inside.

Mitchell indeed noted that twerking on top of police vehicles has happened in Jackson, Mississippi, St. Louis, Seattle, and Miami Beach — "and is largely viewed as an offensive act against police."

More from her piece:

What makes the Chicago incident so interesting is the police SUV was slowly rolling down the street as if whoever was driving was in a parade.

A spokesman for the Chicago Police Department said the incident is under investigation.

Frankly, if allowing young women to climb onto a police cruiser and gyrate is part of the new community policing strategy, the police must go back to the drawing board.

Because if one of the women had fallen off the SUV and been run over, not only would the city be facing a huge lawsuit, but there is a real possibility that the partiers would have turned violent.

It is also disconcerting that residents in some neighborhoods, like Park Manor on the South Side, have been recently under siege by noise, loud music and inappropriate behavior.

A Chicago resident told Mitchell in an email that "hundreds of cars, trucks and motor vehicles" had been "parading down our streets until 4 a.m. playing loud music, using profanity, and displaying all types of anti-social behavior such as urinating in bushes ..."

"I hope we can get some attention brought to this situation that is affecting the quality of life of our residents," resident Niena Feme added to Mitchell. "We are stakeholders; we pay mortgages, taxes and are expected to maintain our properties. Yet we cannot enjoy a level of peace that any community would desire."

Mitchell agreed, noting that "Chicagoans, especially those living on the South and West sides, live with more lawless behavior than I've ever seen."

But she added that it's no help when police seem to "facilitate the mayhem."

Anything else?

TheBlaze has frequently reported on what does indeed appear to be a trend regarding police across America enduring a growing level of bolder and bolder abuse from citizens.

Such as the viral clip of people dumping buckets of water on New York City police officers — and cops having little choice but to simply walk away as they're doused over and over:

Sure, the aforementioned incidents may not include much if any physical harm, but when people realize there are little if any consequences for abusing police in other ways, how long will it be before it gets boring and they resort to real violence?

7-year-old girl killed in drive-by shooting while at a McDonald’s drive-through

A 7-year-old girl is dead after a hail of gunfire struck her father's vehicle while the two were at a Chicago-area McDonald's drive-through anticipating a meal together.

What are the details?

Authorities say that the child, Jaslyn Adams, and her 29-year-old father, Jontae Adams, had just pulled up to the drive-through when two people exited a nearby vehicle and sprayed the car with bullets. Jaslyn and her father — who were both struck by the bullets — were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Jontae survived, but his young daughter — who was struck "multiple times" according to reports — did not.

WBBM-TV reports that roughly 30 shell casings were found near the vehicle.

At the time of this reporting, no suspects have been publicly identified.

Jaslyn's aunt, Tawny McMullen, told WBBM that the family remembers the child as being "sweet and outgoing."

"Really lovable," she added. "Y'all, please put the guns down. Our kids want to play. My kids can't even go out the door because of this violence. Please put the guns down."

In a statement on the shooting, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) said, "I am heartbroken and angered that a 7-year-old child was killed this afternoon on Chicago's West Side. This unthinkable act of violence has no place here. The epidemic of gun violence cutting our children's lives short cannot go on."

What else?

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the shooting was believed to be gang-related. Less than three hours later, two people were shot at a Popeyes in Humboldt Park. Two people — a man and a woman — were injured in the second shooting and were taken to a nearby hospital in serious and critical conditions. Investigators believe that the Popeyes shooting is connected to the McDonald's shooting that took place earlier that day.

Graphic bodycam footage shows Chicago police fatally shooting knife-wielding stabbing suspect — who also stabbed a police officer

Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability on Thursday released bodycam footage of a police shooting involving a knife-wielding suspect.

The incident took place in September.

What are the details of the incident?

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, authorities responded to a call about a man armed with a large knife near Vittum Park.

When they arrived at the scene they discovered 34-year-old Shaon Jermy Ochea Warner armed with a large butcher's knife.

On the video, an officer can be heard shouting, "Put your godd**n hands up. Don't be reaching for nothing."

Warner refuses and can be seen walking toward a female officer with the knife clutched in his hand. The female officer can be seen deploying her Taser at the suspect, which temporarily slows him down. It appears that Warner is able to rip out the Taser's prongs, and once free, rushes the female officer and stabs her in the protective vest.

"Drop the godd**n knife!" an officer can be heard shouting on the tape.

Earlier in September, Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern tweeted a photo of the suspect's knife from the scene of the crime.

After Warner stabs the female officer, police unload on Warner, firing off about 15 shots, and the suspect falls to the ground.

The female officer can be heard telling her fellow officers that she is not injured.

First responders pronounced Warner dead at the scene.

In a statement, COPA said that its "investigation into the officer's actions, including use of deadly force, is in its early stages and will determine if the actions of the officers are in accordance with the Department policy and training."

CWBChicago shared the video on Twitter, captioning it, "Incredible video released by @ChicagoCOPA tonight. Police confront man wanted for stabbing a citizen nearby. Man clearly has large knife, overcomes effect of Tazer [sic] and charges sergeant with knife."
