276 arrested, 89 children rescued in massive child sex crime sweep; FBI reveals 'critical' tips for parents to keep kids safe

Nearly 100 children were rescued and almost 300 people were arrested as part of a sweeping law enforcement operation against child exploitation in Texas, according to authorities.

The FBI on Friday revealed the results of Operation Soteria Shield — a "coordinated law enforcement effort focused on rescuing children from online sexual exploitation and bringing offenders to justice."

'Every single day, this FBI is moving more aggressively than ever before to destroy child predator networks and save innocent victims all over the country.'

"Investigators, analysts, digital forensic examiners, prosecutors, victim advocates, and child advocacy partners worked together to identify offenders and protect vulnerable children," the FBI Dallas branch stated.

The joint operation included almost 200 law enforcement personnel from agencies across Texas. Key participants included the FBI's Dallas North Texas Child Exploitation Task Force, the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Dallas Police Department, the Plano Police Department, the Wylie Police Department, and the Garland Police Department.

Between March and April, Operation Soteria Shield aimed to expose "offenders who exploit children through online platforms, social media, messaging applications, and other digital environments."

The FBI said, "Investigators pursued individuals involved in the possession, distribution, production, or promotion of child sexual abuse material, online solicitation of minors, trafficking, sexual assault, and other child exploitation-related offenses."

As a result of Operation Soteria Shield, 276 people were arrested for child exploitation and 89 children were rescued.

"Investigators also worked to locate children who were being exploited, identify previously unknown victims, and connect children and families with appropriate services," the FBI said.

The FBI noted that the cases in Operation Soteria Shield remain active, and "additional charges may be filed as forensic examinations and follow-up investigations continue."

FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News, "Every single day, this FBI is moving more aggressively than ever before to destroy child predator networks and save innocent victims all over the country, and today’s brilliant numbers out of FBI Dallas and partners are the latest milestone in that righteous mission."

FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock said, "Together, we were able to make a significant impact in the ongoing battle against predators who exploit children in our communities."

Dallas Police Department Chief Daniel C. Comeaux added that these are "not victimless crimes" and that they can "leave lasting trauma on children and families."

Plano Police Department Chief Ed Drain said the operation has "changed lives."

"Every child deserves to grow up safe, protected, and free from exploitation," Drain remarked. "This operation reflects our shared commitment to defend children wherever abuse occurs, whether that is in a home, on a device, or through an online platform."

Wylie Police Department Chief Anthony Henderson proclaimed, "What is done in the dark will be brought to the light."

"Through the coordinated efforts of all participating agencies, hundreds of predators have been identified and removed from our communities," Henderson continued. "This operation reflects our collective commitment to protecting children and pursuing those who seek to exploit or harm them."

Garland Police Department Chief Jeff Bryan added, "Protecting our most precious resource, our children, from online exploitation requires vigilance, strong partnerships, and a relentless commitment to pursuing those who seek to harm them."

Operation Soteria Shield is part of Operation Iron Pursuit — the FBI's nationwide effort to locate victims of child sex abuse and detain child sex predators.

The Department of Justice said in a statement last month that "more than 200 child victims were located and over 350 child sexual abuse offenders were arrested" as a result of Operation Iron Pursuit.

The DOJ highlighted the rescue of a 10-year-old in Utah with a transgender parent and partner during Operation Iron Pursuit.

The child was supposed to be on a camping trip with a transgender parent, partner, and another child. The group instead flew from Canada to Mexico and then to Cuba; concerns existed that the 10-year-old child was taken to Cuba for gender reassignment surgery. FBI Victim Services Division assisted with the recovery of the children, providing crisis support and stabilization.

Law enforcement officials are advocating for parents and guardians to remain vigilant by talking openly with children about online dangers.

Authorities stress that caregivers should "monitor digital activities" and "report suspicious communications."

"Online child exploitation often begins with seemingly ordinary digital contact, and early reporting can be critical to stopping abuse and identifying victims," the FBI declared.

Anyone with information about child exploitation is urged to contact local law enforcement, contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov, or contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at cybertipline.org.

Charter school teacher arrested for alleged sexual abuse of student — police say there may be more victims

A California teacher was arrested for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with a student, and police believe there could be more victims.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office said in a statement: "On January 28, 2026, the Riverside Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Station’s Investigation Bureau began investigating allegations of inappropriate contact with a student at a school in Moreno Valley."

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit suspects that there may be additional victims.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Samantha Josephine Watson of Eastvale.

The sheriff's office said Watson engaged in "inappropriate contact" with a student between 2017 and 2018. At the time of the alleged inappropriate contact, Watson was employed as a teacher at a charter school in Moreno Valley, according to the statement.

While the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office did not name the school, officials noted that the alleged abuse occurred at a charter school campus in the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, KCBS-TV reported, adding that an online search indicates Options for Youth Public Charter Schools "operates in the area."

Watson is not listed as an employee in the staff directory for the Options for Youth Public Charter Schools.

Law enforcement on Friday executed a search warrant in Eastvale and took Watson into custody without incident.

Watson was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of sending harmful material to a juvenile, oral copulation, and digital penetration.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit suspects there may be additional victims.

The New York Post, citing property records, reported that Watson shares a $1.2 million home in Eastvale with her husband.

Watson is scheduled to appear June 8 at the Riverside Hall of Justice for her first hearing, according to jail records provided by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

The Options for Youth Public Charter Schools did not immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office told Blaze News there are no updates at this time.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office urges those with information on the case to contact Master Investigator D. Schell at 951-955-1704 or the sheriff’s dispatch at 951-776-1099.

Female high school teacher accused of committing child sex crimes against 6 teens

A Georgia teacher has been accused of committing child sex crimes against six teenagers, according to multiple reports.

Maris Nichols — a 25-year-old biology teacher at Alexander High School in Douglas County — was arrested May 8.

'The alleged behavior is unacceptable and violates the professional standards all employees are required to uphold.'

WSB-TV reported that Nichols was charged last week with multiple counts of child molestation, improper sexual contact by an employee, grooming of a minor for sexual offense, and one count of tampering with evidence.

A judge set Nichols' bond at $74,000.

The judge ordered Nichols to remain under house arrest except for medical appointments, religious services, and legal consultations. The Times-Georgian reported that Nichols also must wear an ankle monitor, undergo a mental evaluation, avoid contact with minors not related to her, and stay away from the school.

The Times-Georgian obtained arrest warrants saying Nichols had sex with a student in a closet next to her classroom between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on April 23.

According to court documents obtained by WAGA-TV, Nichols also had sex with the same student inside a Hummer off campus in Douglasville.

Investigators added that Nichols allegedly sent nude photos and videos of herself to multiple students, including videos of herself masturbating with a sex toy during live video chats with at least two teens under 16, WAGA reported.

The arrest warrant said Nichols had sex with another student in the back seat of his truck at a golf club.

Nichols also sent explicit messages to two male students that detailed sexual acts she wanted performed on her, according to the arrest warrant.

The warrant added that a female student received videos containing nudity from the teacher, who also urged the student to watch the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movies before asking to discuss the salacious films.

The New York Post reported that Nichols instructed one of the teens to whom she sent sexual messages to delete their communications.

In a letter sent to parents that Fox News obtained, the Douglas County School System noted that it's "deeply troubled" by the accusations.

The school system launched an internal investigation "upon learning of the alleged misconduct" and has cooperated with state and local law enforcement in their investigations.

"The alleged behavior is unacceptable and violates the professional standards all employees are required to uphold," the letter stated, adding that it can't provide additional information regarding the allegations.

School officials did not reveal if any disciplinary action had been taken against Nichols or if she had been terminated. But she was not listed Wednesday among the staff on the high school's website.

During Nichols' bond hearing earlier this month, her attorney Christy Draper said the case was an "unfortunate situation."

"She is a solid member of this community. She's never even had a speeding ticket before," Draper said, according to the Times-Georgian. "This is not your typical person that you see in these kinds of situations."

"The truth is eventually going to come out," Draper added. "It's going to show that this alleged victim is more the perpetrator of this situation. This is a lot more technical and a lot more complex than what meets the eye."

However, a prosecuting attorney called the defense attorney's allegations "egregious," the Times-Georgian reported.

Draper gave a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that read:

As this matter is currently under active investigation, we will not provide a detailed comment at this time. We are fully committed to getting to the bottom of these allegations and ensuring that every relevant fact is brought forward.

The arrest warrant did not specify the ages of the alleged victims but did note they all were teenagers.

Nichols was hired as a teacher at Alexander High School in May 2023.

WAGA reported that Nichols also has been a "player personnel director" for the high school football program.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment.

Female elementary teacher, 25, turned in by husband for alleged sexual misconduct against underage student: Court docs

A first-grade teacher in Washington state has been arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with an underage student, according to recent claims her husband made to police.

The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that 25-year-old Mackenzie Naught was arrested May 10.

'He said she started to ''get handsy,'' and they had sex inside his truck and in the bed of the truck. He then dropped her off at about 4 a.m. near her house.'

Naught was charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor.

Naught had been an employee of the St. John School District.

Police said they "received information about an alleged inappropriate relationship between a student and the employee."

"Following an initial investigation, deputies developed probable cause supporting the allegations," the statement read.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that "all parties involved are cooperating with the investigation."

The Spokesman-Review obtained court records saying Naught's husband informed police on May 9 that his wife of four years had confessed to him that she had sex with a teen on one occasion.

The husband had screenshots to prove his wife had been sexually active with the teenager, court documents also said.

According to the husband, the teen admitted to the illicit encounter in a voice call and through Snapchat messages, court docs said.

The husband told police he had known the teen for years and was friends with the boy's family. The Spokesman-Review reported that Naught initially told deputies she never had sex with the teen.

According to court records, the alleged victim informed police that Naught was "being flirty" and that she attempted to persuade him to meet her. The teen initially felt weird about meeting Naught but eventually decided to see the teacher.

The Spokesman-Review reported, "He picked her up at about 2:15 a.m. in his truck down the street from her house. She asked him where the 'little spot' was they could go, he told deputies."

The news outlet added that "she suddenly kissed him. He said she started to 'get handsy,' and they had sex inside his truck and in the bed of the truck. He then dropped her off at about 4 a.m. near her house."

The Spokesman-Review, citing court documents, added that Naught said she knew the boy was 16, but that he is "like one of their friends."

According to court documents, Naught apologized and said she knew the situation was wrong and instructed the teen not to tell anyone.

Naught had been a teacher at St. John Elementary since September; the teenager is a junior at St. John-Endicott High School, according to court docs.

Superintendent Tina Strong said in a statement, "At this time, St. John School District is aware of allegations involving a district employee that are currently being reviewed by law enforcement."

"The employee has been placed on leave and will not be on campus during this process," Strong wrote. "The district is cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities and will also be conducting its own investigation into the allegations."

Strong continued, "Our priority continues to be the safety, well-being, and support of our students and school community."

"We understand situations like this can create concern, questions, and emotions throughout a small community, and we ask that everyone approach this matter with care and respect while the appropriate process unfolds," Strong continued. "We also expect staff to continue maintaining the highest level of professionalism during this time."

Naught appeared in Whitman County Superior Court.

Neither the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office nor the St. John School District immediately responded to Blaze News' requests for comment.

Ex-HS counselor reportedly was 'crying throughout the hearing' after she was hit with felony sex charges involving student

A now-former high school counselor in North Carolina has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a student at the school, according to police.

Asheboro Police Department officers on Friday arrested 39-year-old Amber Elizabeth Walker, according to the arrest warrant WFMY-TV obtained.

'Asheboro City Schools is aware that a former employee of the district has been taken into custody in connection with alleged inappropriate activity.'

Walker was charged with two felony counts of sex act with a student, the arrest warrant said. Walker faces up to 94 months in prison if convicted on both charges, WFMY reported. During Monday's hearing, prosecutors petitioned the court to hold Walker without bond.

Walker's attorney argued that his client isn't a flight risk because she resides in Guilford County, where her 2-year-old son and her parents live, WXLV-TV reported. Her attorney also noted that Walker poses no risk of reoffending, as the school district no longer employs her.

However, the judge said the charges against Walker are considered violent offenses under Iryna’s Law, which means a defendant cannot be released on an unsecured bond or written promise, WXLV reported. Iryna's Law was enacted in October 2025 in response to the brutal killing of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte commuter train.

According to the Duke Chronicle, the main provisions of Iryna's Law are to "enforce stricter pretrial release conditions, mandate mental health evaluations for some defendants, and expedite the process for implementing capital punishment."

Walker's secured bond was set at $50,000, and the judge ordered her to have no contact with the victim.

Walker was "crying throughout the hearing," according to WFMY.

Walker was a counselor and girls' basketball coach at Asheboro High School, according to WFMY.

Multiple posts on the official Asheboro High School Facebook account from 2019 and 2021 identify Walker as "Coach Walker" while congratulating the girls' basketball team.

Police said they received a tip on Friday accusing Walker of engaging in sexual activity two days before with an underage student at the school, WFMY reported. Police said detectives "quickly developed evidence confirming the allegation" and took Walker into custody within hours of receiving the potentially damning accusations.

WXII-TV reported that the school district hired Walker on Feb. 26, 2018, and Asheboro City Schools fired her Friday. The school district said in a statement that it will "continue to cooperate with appropriate authorities as necessary."

"Asheboro City Schools is aware that a former employee of the district has been taken into custody in connection with alleged inappropriate activity," the school district said in a statement WFMY obtained.

The New York Post reported that just two months ago, Asheboro City Schools urged college-aspiring students to contact Walker for scholarship opportunities.

Walker is scheduled to appear in court on May 26. The Asheboro Police Department and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment.

Female teacher charged with improper sexual contact with a student and child molestation

A Georgia high school teacher had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an underage student, police have said.

The Savannah Police Department said in a statement that 35-year-old Chatham County teacher Paulina Walden was arrested May 1.

'The district takes any accusation of inappropriate conduct by an employee very seriously.'

Walden was charged with improper sexual contact with a student and child molestation; she was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center where she was being held without bond.

According to Georgia law, anyone convicted of child molestation can be punished by imprisonment for a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years.

Georgia law adds that a conviction of improper sexual contact by a person in a position of trust faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.

Police said they were notified on April 24 regarding a report of a teacher having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.

"When administration became aware of the allegations, the educator was immediately reassigned to a non-school location with no student contact," the police statement read.

Police also said the alleged sexual contact occurred off campus, which made the Savannah Police Department the lead agency for the case.

The Savannah Morning News obtained a statement from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System saying Walden was an English teacher at Jenkins High School. Walden has worked at the school since September 2023.

"The district takes any accusation of inappropriate conduct by an employee very seriously," the press release said. "The matter will be reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission."

The school district told WTOC-TV:

She remains an employee of the district at this time as the case has not yet been adjudicated. Since she is not actively on the job, she would need to use any accrued leave time or personal days in order to be paid. If she returns to work, she will remain reassigned to a location where she will have no interaction with students.

The school district told WTOC that Walden teaches mythology and oral speaking.

WTOC reported, "Through her social media, we know she has worked with Jenkins’ theatre department in multiple plays and productions. She has been the yearbook adviser and a head coach at one point for the dance and flag team."

WTOC said Walden's teaching certification status is still active until 2029, and her certification "does not show she is under investigation or has any ethical status complications."

"No further comment can be made on the allegations as it involves a personnel matter," the school district stated, according to another report from WTOC.

According to WTOC, Walden was previously a teacher or teaching assistant at Garrison School of Visual and Performing Arts, Shuman Elementary School, Savannah Country Day School, and East Broad K-8.

Walden's husband — who reportedly also is a teacher — did not have a comment on his wife's arrest, WTOC said.

Walden does not have a criminal record in Chatham County, according to the station.

The Savannah Police Department and the Chatham County Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment.

Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or submit an anonymous tip through the Savannah Police Department mobile app.

Walden is the second Savannah Chatham County Public School System teacher to be arrested on child sex crime charges in less than a year.

In October 2025, 32-year-old Jawan Johnson was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of children, solicitation of sodomy of a child under 18, and grooming of a minor.

According to the indictment WTOC obtained, Johnson had material in his possession that depicted a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct — and solicited the same child for an act of sodomy for money and used electronic communications to make the illicit offer.

At the time of his arrest, Johnson was a 7th-grade social studies teacher at New Hampstead K-8, according to WTOC.

In February, Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charges, WJCL-TV reported.

Teacher allegedly sexually abused 5th-grade boy in classroom closet, kissed him in front of her own young child in classroom

A Texas elementary teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a fifth-grade student years ago, police said. The alleged victim reportedly told investigators that the teacher would have her favorite students play Truth or Dare and urged those children to kiss each other.

The San Antonio Police Department said in a statement that 46-year-old Cecilia Mueller was arrested and charged with continuous sexual assault of a child.

When the alleged victim and Mueller were alone in the classroom, she reportedly would touch his leg and kiss him — and soon told him she 'wanted more' and engaged in sexual conduct with him in a classroom closet.

"There is reason to believe that there could be additional victims of this crime," police stated.

Northside Independent School District spokesperson Barry Perez told WOAI-TV that the district hired Mueller in August 2007.

Mueller was a teacher at Lewis Elementary School from her hire date until June 2019 when she transferred to Henderson Elementary School.

The alleged victim — now 20 years old — recently told investigators he was in Mueller's fifth-grade class at Lewis Elementary School during the 2016-2017 school year.

Citing the arrest report, KABB-TV said the alleged victim told authorities he was one of Mueller's “favorites” — and such students often were seated together at a reading table in her classroom where the alleged victim said Mueller engaged in inappropriate conversations with them.

More from KABB:

He told police that the “favorites” would sometimes stay during lunch, where he alleges Mueller showed them explicit music videos and, on one occasion, a pornographic video. He also said she played Truth or Dare with the students, at times daring them to kiss each other. According to the report, he said she instructed the students not to tell their parents, warning that she could get into serious trouble.

According to the Express-News, when the alleged victim and Mueller were alone in the classroom, she would touch his leg and kiss him — and soon told him she "wanted more" and engaged in sexual conduct with him in a classroom closet.

KABB, citing the arrest report, noted that the alleged victim said he and Mueller on one occasion were kissing while her young child was present in the classroom. KENS-TV, citing the affidavit, reported that when the alleged victim expressed concern about her child being present, Mueller said her child "would not remember."

RELATED: Florida teacher accused of sexually abusing student after parents use app to track boy to mystery location: Police

The Express-News, citing the affidavit, said Mueller would text the victim after school hours "constantly." The paper added that investigators reviewed text message logs that the victim's mother provided and found about 300 messages and photos between the victim and Mueller's phone number from just one week in February 2017.

The New York Post reported that the alleged victim informed investigators that the child sex abuse stopped when he graduated from the fifth grade.

Citing the arrest report, WOAI said Mueller told the alleged victim to never tell anyone about their relationship for the rest of his life and requested that he contact her when he turned 18 years old.

According to the Express-News, Mueller was being held at the Bexar County Jail with bail set at $95,000. The paper said that if Mueller is convicted, she could face a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

KSAT obtained a letter that Henderson Elementary School Principal Lillyana Hinojosa sent to parents about the "deeply unsettling" and "difficult" news.

"I want to let you know that one of our teachers was recently arrested by the San Antonio Police Department," the letter read.

Hinojosa noted that the Northside Independent School District is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

A Northside Independent School District spokesperson told WOAI that Mueller has been placed on leave.

Neither Henderson Elementary School nor the Northside Independent School District immediately responded to Blaze News' requests for comment.

Those with information about the case or possible victims are urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department's Special Victims Unit at 210-207-2313.

'The Epstein of Indian Country': 'Dances with Wolves' actor learns fate for sexually assaulting women, girls for years

"Dances with Wolves" actor Nathan Chasing Horse — once hailed as a spiritual healer — learned his fate after he was found guilty of sexually abusing girls and women for years.

Nevada 8th Judicial District Court Judge Jessica Peterson on Monday sentenced Chasing Horse to life in prison, the Associated Press reported, adding that he'll be eligible for parole after 37 years.

'He took away my sense of safety, even within my own mind.'

Chasing Horse's defense attorney argued for the statutory minimum of 25 years to life, according to USA Today.

Craig A. Mueller, Chasing Horse's lawyer, told TMZ he plans to appeal.

The 49-year-old actor maintained his innocence during the sentencing hearing: "I did not do these things. This is a miscarriage of justice."

But Judge Peterson told Chasing Horse, "You preyed on these women's trusts and their spirituality, and you manipulated them for your own personal gratification," the AP reported.

As Blaze News previously reported, a Nevada grand jury indicted Chasing Horse in February 2023.

The actor — best known for playing the "Smiles a Lot" character in the Oscar-winning Kevin Costner film "Dances with Wolves" — pleaded not guilty to all of the 21 charges against him.

However, a jury in January 2026 convicted him of 13 charges related to sexual assaults.

KTNV-TV reported that Chasing Horse was found guilty of 10 counts of sexual assault of a minor under 16, one count of open/gross lewdness, one count of sexual assault, and one count of possession of visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of a child.

RELATED: 8 arrested on rape, sex trafficking charges in case of 14-year-old girl suffering '25 days of hell'

Deputy District Attorney Bianca Pucci told the jury that Chasing Horse "spun a web of abuse" for nearly 20 years, according to PBS.

Pucci told the courtroom that Chasing Horse previously manipulated a 14-year-old girl named Corena Leone-LaCroix by weaponizing his status as a purported Lakota medicine man with spiritual influence.

Pucci alleged that Chasing Horse told the girl the spirits wanted her to give up her virginity to him in order to save her mother who had been diagnosed with cancer.

Pucci said Chasing Horse sexually assaulted her and told her that if she told anyone, her mother would die, according to PBS.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that Leone-LaCroix recalled Chasing Horse telling her, "A life for a life."

"That is the promise he made me make all those years ago when I didn't understand the extent of what he was asking me. I think it's only fitting that you ask the same of him here today," Leone-LaCroix told the judge.

"There is no way to get back the youth, the childhood loss, my first time, my first kiss, the graduation I never got to have," Leone-LaCroix said, according to PBS. "The life that little girl could have lived has been taken from me forever."

The survivor's mother, Melissa Leone, called Chasing Horse "the Epstein of Indian Country."

The mom told Judge Peterson, "The crimes he has been convicted of, like Epstein, are not even the tip of the iceberg."

Siera Begaye, another victim of Chasing Horse, told the jury she suffered from trauma caused by his "psychological control," according to USA Today.

"He took away my sense of safety, even within my own mind. I believe I didn't have privacy in my own thoughts," Begaye stated. "Living with that kind of psychological control has had lasting effects on my ability to trust others and to fully express myself."

Begaye added, "The trauma delayed important parts of my life."

Chief Deputy District Attorney William Rowles and Pucci told KSNV-TV:

We think it was very important to ensure that each victim was represented separate and distinct in the sentence. We are very happy the judge agreed with the assessment as each victim survived their own trauma. The defendant should be held accountable for each victim separately. We want to thank Judge Peterson for her professionalism throughout the trial, particularly in the way she conducted herself in balancing the rights of a defendant and the privacy rights of sexual assault survivors.

The Press Democrat reported that Chasing Horse also has been charged in Canada, and prosecutors in British Columbia said once he has exhausted all of his appeals in the United States, they will move forward with assessing next steps for a 2018 sexual assault charge in Keremeos — a village about four hours east of Vancouver.

Chasing Horse has six acting credits to his name, and his last acting appearance was in the 2007 HBO film "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," which won six Emmys.

Substitute teacher accused of 'improper relationship between an educator and a student'

A substitute teacher from Texas has been accused of having an improper relationship with a student, according to police.

The Llano County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the Llano Independent School District last Tuesday notified authorities about an alleged improper relationship between a substitute teacher and a student.

'The district takes all allegations of this nature extremely seriously and remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students.'

Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Angela Palmares.

"Investigators conducted interviews and collected evidence, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Palmares," police stated.

Officers with the Llano County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Bell County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Apprehension Unit arrested Palmares without incident in Bell County on Wednesday, according to police.

Palmares has been "charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student," which is a second-degree felony, the sheriff's office said.

Under Texas law the offense occurs when an "employee of a public or private primary or secondary school ... engages in sexual contact, sexual intercourse, or deviate sexual intercourse with a person who is enrolled in a public or private primary or secondary school at which the employee works."

The New York Post reported that Palmares is being held on a $150,000 bond.

RELATED: Former girls' high school basketball coach hit with 32 sex charges, including 'deviant sexual intercourse with a student'

Mac Edwards, the school district superintendent, wrote a letter to parents saying the substitute teacher was "immediately removed from the list of available substitutes on April 21."

Edwards added in the letter that an allegation surfaced from Llano High School regarding a substitute teacher and "inappropriate communication with students, specifically through a social media platform outside of the school day." Edwards said authorities were "promptly" notified.

Edwards added that the substitute teacher had not worked in the school district since April 2.

"The district has been in contact with all of the parents of those students who have been directly impacted by this situation," the letter stated.

"The district takes all allegations of this nature extremely seriously and remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students," Edwards also wrote.

Edwards said the school district at present is "unable to provide additional details due to personnel and student privacy considerations."

The Llano County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case or anyone who believes they may be a victim to contact the Llano County Sheriff’s Office at 325-247-5767 and request to speak with an investigator in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Former 5th-grade teacher faces 25 sex-crime charges, including rape; second woman arrested in connection to child abuse case

A former elementary school teacher from Louisiana has been hit with 25 child sex-crime charges after accusations of illicit relationships with two students, according to authorities. In addition, a second Louisiana woman recently was arrested in connection with the eyebrow-raising case.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that its deputies started an investigation into 31-year-old Marisa Noel on Jan. 28.

'We will continue to support our partners across the state and bring to justice anyone who exploits or sexually abuses the children of Louisiana.'

Police said deputies launched the investigation after being tipped off about the teacher reportedly "having an inappropriate relationship with one of her former students."

Police said at the time of the investigation, Noel was a fifth-grade teacher at Teche Elementary School in Breaux Bridge.

Noel was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on April 13, according to jail records.

Noel originally was charged with four counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and four counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor.

However, law enforcement said an additional victim was identified, which resulted in 17 more charges just two days after her arrest.

The sheriff's office said Noel additionally was charged with 10 counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, three counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor, two counts of child sexual abuse materials, one count of first-degree rape, and one count of unlawful communications.

Louisiana law states that those convicted of first-degree rape can be sentenced to life in prison without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

However, if a victim is younger than 13 years old, the district attorney can seek the death penalty.

Law enforcement did not reveal the ages of the alleged victims. However, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation said at least one of the alleged victims was younger than 13 years old.

Police noted that Noel is no longer a teacher at Teche Elementary School.

The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation said in a press release that a second woman was arrested in connection with the case involving Noel.

The news release said the Breaux Bridge woman was arrested as "part of an ongoing joint investigation with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office after a former fifth-grade teacher in the parish was arrested for first-degree rape and other crimes against children."

Cortney Burleigh, 37, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony counts of cruelty to juveniles, obstruction of justice, and indecent behavior with juveniles/accessory after the fact.

The news release did not specify Burleigh's role in the case but noted that she was not a teacher at the school.

Attorney General Liz Murrill stated, "We will continue to support our partners across the state and bring to justice anyone who exploits or sexually abuses the children of Louisiana."

The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations are conducting the ongoing joint investigation.

The LBI, the sheriff's office, the elementary school, and St. Martin Parish School District didn't immediately respond to Blaze News' requests for comment.
