Chuck Todd leaving 'Meet the Press,' to be replaced by Kristen Welker

Chuck Todd announced that he is leaving "Meet the Press" after hosting the Sunday morning political interview show for nine years. Within the coming months, Todd will be replaced by Kristen Welker.

Todd, 51, told viewers on Sunday, "It's been an amazing nearly decade-long run. I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade. I've loved so much of this job, helping to explain America to Washington and explain Washington to America."

He continued, "When I took over ‘Meet the Press,’ it was a Sunday show that had a lot of people questioning whether it still could have a place in the modern media space. Well, I think we’ve answered that question and then some."

Todd addressed his critics by saying, "If you do this job seeking popularity, you are doing this job incorrectly. I'll take the attacks from partisans as compliments. And I take the genuine compliments with a grain of salt when they come from partisans."

Todd alleged, "I leave feeling concerned about this moment in history but reassured by the standards we’ve set here. We didn’t tolerate propagandists, and this network and program never will."

"If you ignore reality, you'll miss the big story," he said.

He stated that being a real political journalist "isn't about building a brand." But rather about "reporting what's happening and explaining why its' happening, and letting the public absorb the facts."

"But the key to the survival of any of these incredible media entities, including here at 'Meet the Press,' is for leaders not to overstay their welcome," he said. " I'd rather leave a little bit too soon than stay a tad bit too long."

Todd claimed that he let "work consume him for 30 years."

"I've watched too many friends and family let work consume them before it was too late," Todd stated. "I promised my family I wouldn't do that."

He said he "already had plans for his next chapter."

Todd said he would remain at NBC in a new role as a chief political analyst and focus on long-form journalism.

Todd said he has "so much confidence" in his replacement – Kristen Welker. He added that Welker is "the right person," and has been "ready for this for a long time."

Todd did not give a specific date of his last show, but said this would be his last summer at "Meet the Press." He also said that Welker would replace him in September.

Welker is a former chief White House correspondent, and has worked at NBC News since 2011. Welker has been Todd's chief fill-in at "Meet the Press" for the past three years.

Welker, 46, moderated the final presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in 2020.

"Meet the Press" has aired since 1947, and is the longest-running show on American television.

Liberals turn on their own after Chuck Todd points out 70% of Americans don't want Biden to run again

NBC News' Chuck Todd has been pilloried by Democrats online for daring to confront viewers with the reality of President Joe Biden's unpopularity.

Todd, the host of "Meet the Press," detailed the findings of a recent NBC News survey of 1,000 adults, conducted April 14-18.

The survey found that 54% of respondents disapprove of the job Biden is doing as president, up from 50% in January.

When asked to rank their feelings of Biden, 38% of respondents indicated that they had a "very negative" impression and another 10% said they had a "somewhat negative" impression. Only 17% of respondents said they had a "very positive" feelings about the Democratic president.

Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research told NBC News, "President Biden’s numbers are not where they need to be at this stage."

Todd zeroed in on how 70% of respondents, including 51% of Democrats, said that Biden — the oldest president ever to take office — should not run for re-election in 2024.

By way of comparison, 60% of prospective voters, including roughly 33% of Republicans, said that former President Donald Trump should not run again for office.

Roughly half of those who don't want Biden to run again suggested age was a "major" factor behind their reasoning.

In addition to his routine gaffes, missteps, and tumbles, Biden has explicitly invited scrutiny over his waning vitality.

Biden told MSNBC's "The Sunday Show" in October, "I could drop dead tomorrow."

"In terms of my energy level, in terms of how much I am able to do, I think people should look and say, 'Is he still have the same passion for what he's doing?' And if they think I do and I can do it, then that's fine," he said. "If they don't, they should vote against me."

The new NBC News poll indicated that many voters might do just that.

When asked who they would vote for if Biden ultimately ran for re-election — an announcement expected later this week — 21% of respondents suggested they would "definitely vote for Biden," 20% said they might vote for Biden, and 47% of respondents indicated they would vote for the Republican candidate.

Todd told NBC's "Sunday Today" that Biden's flagging support and apparent undesirability among voters, including Democrats, is "not because of his policies, it’s simply because of questions about his physical ability to do it and his current age."

The "Meet the Press" host noted that "the thing that is most striking in our poll is how much Republicans are rallying around Donald Trump. ... You have 70% of Republican primary voters tell us, basically, that these charges against Donald Trump mean that it’s more important to rally around Donald Trump rather than giving them a choice that says, you know, he was a good president but these could be distractions in defeating Joe Biden. Only one in four Republican primary voters believe that."

After Todd suggested that America wasn't keen on maintaining a gerontocracy helmed by one of two relatively unpopular candidates, leftist Twitter directed its collective anger his way.

The Wrap reported that various Biden supporters and other Democrats accused Todd of spreading ageism, Republican propaganda, and fake news.

One user tangled up in a thread questioning Todd's credibility wrote, "Chuck Todd should be fired! I do not believe this poll. I do believe his age might be an issue for some. I think he’s accomplished so much for this country."

For having reported on the survey results, one user called for Todd to be muzzled.

Howard Altman, a Twitter user who peddles foul screeds about Trump, wrote, "Screw you, Chuck Todd, and screw you Me-lennials. The people who vote, the people you deride as 'the establishment' I want Biden/Harris, and they will win."

“"There are only 6% of Americans that would like to see both Trump and Biden run." - @ChuckTodd on a new @NBCNews poll. “It looks like both parties are about to nominate two people that the country doesn’t want to have, and there are going to be unintended consequences to that.””

While immensely unpopular, recent polls suggest Biden remains the Democratic front-runner.

The latest Harvard-Harris poll has Biden up 27 points over Vice President Kamala Harris. Bernie Sanders is a distant third, neck-and-neck with Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Elizabeth Warren are even further behind.

Chuck Todd asks Nancy Mace if a GOP House majority would impeach Biden — is literally WOWED by her response

On NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, host Chuck Todd asked GOP Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina if she expects an impeachment vote against President Joe Biden if Republicans take over the House after the midterm elections.

Addressing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s “Commitment to America” agenda, Todd asked Mace, “Do you expect an impeachment vote against President Biden if Republicans take over the House?”

“I believe there’s a lot of pressure on Republicans to have that vote, to put that legislation forward, and to have that vote. I think that is something that some folks are considering," Mace answered.

"Wow!" Todd responded simply.

Todd later asked Mace how she would vote “if these impeach-Biden votes come up?"

Mace made it clear that she would vote based on the evidence against Biden.

"I didn’t vote to impeach the former president of the United States because I felt like due process was stripped away. I will not vote for impeachment of any president if I feel that due process has been stripped away for anyone," she stated. "I typically vote constitutionally, regardless of who is in power.”

“Nancy Mace suggests House Republicans, possibly including her, will vote to impeach Biden if they win power in November. Chuck Todd doesn’t bother to follow up by asking her what he would be impeached for. A failure all around.”

Todd was immediately slammed by leftists on Twitter for being a "political journalist," which is interesting given that many critics felt that the NBC host should never have invited the moderate Republican lawmaker onto his show.

MSNBC viewers melt down over Chuck Todd comment about Biden agenda imploding

Liberal viewers of the progressive cable news network MSNBC raged on social media after host Chuck Todd said that President Joe Biden's successful nomination to the Supreme Court was to be his last victory.

Chuck Todd made the comment during the celebration of Democrats over the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court despite the passionate objections by some Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Todd characterized the Supreme Court victory as possibly the last one for the White House, apparently referring to the impending loss of congressional seats for Democrats in the midterm elections amidst collapsing support in the polls.

Viewers of the channel were outraged that Todd refused to ignore the sorry state of the future of the Democratic party.

"I mean I just watched this amazing inspiring event with Justice Jackson and then Chuck Todd comes on and basically throws [sh*t] all over it," responded writer Tony Posnanski.

"Chuck Todd’s opening words just threw shade on the historic day: 'A win for the Democrats, but what if it’s their last?' This tone deaf mofo is so out of line, @MSNBC. Read the room," read one very popular tweet.

"So @chucktodd decides to try to ruin a historic moment by saying this may be last victory for this WH? Perhaps he needs to apply at @RNC for a job more suited to him," said another outraged viewer.

"Chuck Todd would rather throw cold water on Judge Jackson’s party today and criticize Democrats," said another critic. "Fire Chuck Todd Hire Jen Psaki.

"And without fail,Chuck Todd comes in with 'it’s a victory for the Democrats, but will it be their last for the year ?' and media wonders why we call them partisan hacks," replied another angry viewer.

This is not the first time Todd has outraged MSNBC viewers over his honest criticism of Democrats. In November, he said that massive spending would be bad for Democrats, and in March, he said Biden didn't have much of a loyal fanbase. In both cases, viewers demanded he be fired for his insolence.

MSNBC's Chuck Todd scolds, angrily points finger at TV media figures who question COVID-19 vaccine safety

If you had any lingering doubts that legacy media personalities sometimes lack objectivity, Chuck Todd decisively blew up those doubts Thursday.

What happened?

Todd — host of "Meet the Press" and political director for NBC News — got noticeably angry and even pointed his finger over and over again at those in television media who question the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and who have been, as he claimed, "spreading misinformation."

"Folks, nearly 10,000 people died in the month of June. They were needless deaths," Todd said, referring to those reportedly succumbing to COVID-19. "Please get vaccinated. If you know someone who's not vaccinated, find a way to convince them to get vaccinated. Literally the only people dying are the unvaccinated."

Which, for the record, is close but literally not true. In May, fully vaccinated Americans made up about 0.8% of COVID-19 deaths in the country, the Associated Press said.

Todd then grew quite a bit more emotional; his voice got clipped and his breathing became huffy and puffy as he pointed and shook his finger at his counterparts on TV news who cast doubts on the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.

"And for those of you spreading misinformation, shame on you, shame on you" Todd continued angrily. "People are needlessly dying because of your misinformation. Think about it. I don't know how some of you sleep at night who are doing this for a living on television."

Here's the video:

— Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) 1625162600.0

Anything else?

Before his brief meltdown, Todd noted that the country is "once again moving in the wrong direction with this virus" as he said CDC Director Rochelle Walensky reported a 10% increase in COVID-19 cases since last week and the "hyper transmissible" Delta variant accounted for 25% of them.

Todd added that Walensky said the Delta variant's spread is "being fueled by communities with low vaccination rates" and that "more than a thousand counties have a vaccination rate of lower than 30%."

Dr. Anthony Fauci earlier this week warned of "two Americas" emerging: areas where most people are vaccinated and places where most aren't.

On the other side of the coin, a study just found vaccinated U.S. military members with higher-than-expected rates of heart inflammation.

Liberals lash out at Chuck Todd for calling on President-elect Biden to keep his campaign promise

NBC political director and MSNBC host Chuck Todd was excoriated by many on the left on social media for asking if President-elect Joe Biden would be able to keep his promise on the coronavirus pandemic.

Todd made the comments Tuesday on "Meet the Press" after noting poll results that showed many Americans believed the country was divided and would remain so for many years.

"Let's be realistic, Biden's first and most crucial task is to vaccinate America, to fulfill that promise of 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days," Todd said.

"The ultimate success or failure of his presidency may hinge simply on that one promise that he made and it might be his only way to begin immediately cauterizing America's social, economic, and political wounds," he continued.

"Let's put it this way, if Biden wants to succeed he has to fulfill that first vaccination promise," he concluded. "If Biden doesn't get it right, he will have failed on the job he was elected to do."

What was the reaction?

Many on the left rushed to social media to register their fury against Todd and MSNBC for continuing to keep him employed.

"For years I've been on this platform telling you about the lack of professionalism and lack of journalistic ethics in @chucktodd's daily broadcasts. A lot of you saw it today. But it's been happening for years and it is past time for @MSNBC to do something about it," said novelist Don Winslow.

"If you agree that Chuck Todd is already a failure before Joe Biden is sworn in, then raise your hand," tweeted progressive activist Grant Stern.

"[C]huck todd, before biden is even sworn in... talking about his push for vaccines: 'if biden doesn't get it right, he will have failed in the job he was elected to do' i repeat: biden is not even sworn in yet," said liberal activist Oliver Willis.

"I've been trying to hold my tongue. But I'm done. F*** @chucktodd. That's what I said. F***. #ChuckTodd. Once more for the kids in the back: #F***CHUCKTODD!!!!" tweeted liberal actor Matt Walton.

Todd faced similar rancor from many on the left in July when he merely pointed out that the president had "turned a corner" on whether masks should be worn to help stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

MSNBC viewers lash out at Andrea Mitchell and demand she retire over comments critical of Joe Biden

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell faced the ire of her network's viewers when she criticized former Vice President Joe Biden over an injury to his foot.

Mitchell made the comments on Monday on "Andrea Mitchell Reports," pointing out that Biden had suffered the injury on Saturday but didn't disclose it to the public until later.

"It was also notable, you know he fell, playing with his dog Major, we're told, on Saturday, it wasn't until Sunday that the White House pool knew that he was going somewhere, and then it turned out to be a doctor, you know, for an x-ray, and then they needed more imaging, so CT scans," Mitchell said.

"They weren't as forthcoming as you would hope they would be with the press pool that's supposed to cover them," she concluded.

Viewers lash out at Mitchell

Many liberals and other critics of President Donald Trump were outraged that Mitchell would criticize Biden.

"Are you f**king serious with this Andrea Mitchell? Biden not transparent enough about his ankle? THEY VIDEOTAPED HIM AT THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE!" tweeted Mediaite writer Tommy Christopher with a video of her comments.

"This is STANDARD FOR ORTHOPEDIC diagnoses as I well know ffs STOP THIS CRAP BOTH SIDESING," responded another viewer.

"Not only can I not stand her boring ass voice, I can't stand her ridiculous reporting either," said another viewer.

"Oh my did Andrea Mitchell actually saying the [sic] Joe Biden wasn't as forthcoming about his ankle give me a fking break," said another.

Others demanded that Mitchell retire or be fired from her position over the comments.

"You and @chucktodd both need to go," said one viewer.

"Time to take an early retirement @mitchellreports . The people are done watching you," said another viewer.

"@mitchellreports needs to go. This two standards crap for the GOP vs. Dems is beyond old," said another viewer.

Mitchell is no stranger to pushback from social media. In March she was excoriated over a video of Biden that selectively edited out his cursing and and a threat in order to make it look far less unhinged.
