Canadian school board member at transgender flag ceremony says, 'Fight the strict binaries of gender, rooted in patriarchal colonial systems'

A member of the Durham District School Board in Ontario, Canada, called for a fight against "patriarchal colonial systems," "cultural norms," and even "hyper femininity" at a recent transgender flag-raising ceremony.

As reported by Cosmin Dzsurdzsa, a senior researcher for True North news, Shane Stagg, a Department Head of Library at Brooklin High School, gave scathing remarks on his school district, calling it a "colonial system" that has caused "significant harm."

"District 13 recognizes the significant harm rooted in our colonial past, and the impacts of colonialism that continue to this day," Stagg said.

"We must work hard to fight the strict binaries of gender rooted in patriarchal colonial systems," the educator continued.

According to his LinkedIn page, Stagg has worked for the Durham District School Board for over 22 years, as a librarian, teacher, and programs facilitator.

According to Canada's "Sunshine List," which tracks public servants who have an income over $100,000 per year, Stagg has earned over $101,000 each year since 2017.

"We must fight hyper masculinity and hyper femininity. We must challenge that gender is rooted in biology," Stagg continued during the ceremony.

"We must challenge the cultural norms of 'blueness' and 'pinkness' defining our expressions and genders," he added.

Stagg appears to have helped plan the collection of material for the Brooklin High School library, stating on his Twitter account in February 2015 that he was "putting together lists for a new library collection." The school opened in September 2015.

"All sexism, homophobia, and transphobia are rooted in these strict binaries, and they must end," Stagg went on, insisting that the transgender day of celebration has offered the community many "gifts."

"As we raise the transgender flag today, we gather in celebration of the richness, diversity, and gifts the trans community offer to us all."

The Durham District School Board has a complex equity and inclusion program, making distinct note of "addressing anti-black racism."

In an "Equity and Diversity Strategic Plan," the first page states that some of the students "express their gender identities in a male/female binary, [while] others express their gender identities in a fluid continuum. They all find love in different ways."

'Who's interested in knowing my daughter's sexual orientation?!' Father unleashes on school board about sexual content in books for 7-year-olds

'Who's interested in knowing my daughter's sexual orientation?!' Father unleashes on school board about sexual content in books for 7-year-olds

A father attended a school board meeting recently to confront educators regarding sexual content found in a book that he says is available to his daughter, age 7.

David Todor, whose daughter attends a school in the Waterloo Region District, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, read passages from a book called "The Bluest Eye," a national best-seller readily available on Amazon.

"I can assure you this book has been approved, and it's accessible to my daughter, the one that's seven years old by the way ... this book is approved ... for grade four to five reading level," the father remarked to the board of trustees.

"He could have been an active homosexual but lacked the courage, beastiality did not occur to him, and sodomy was quite out of the question for he did not experience sustained erections and could not endure the thought of somebody else's," the parent read.

"Who's interested in knowing and affirming, celebrating, my daughter's sexual orientation?! Why is the school board facilitating child abuse and has these books available in the library?" the father asked.

A further excerpt from the book can be read here.

The book, which the father alleges is approved for grades four to five, is recommended for ages 15 and up by several different sets of reviews on the website Common Sense Media.

A synopsis of the book reads as follows:

"Sexual behavior is also very complicated in this novel. Sex acts and feelings between adults are described, and more than one grown man behaves inappropriately with young girls. There is also incest and domestic violence, including the rape of an 11-year-old girl."

Mr. Todor later confronted trustees about the availability of their meetings online, saying that the database had been erased. Todor then quotes one of the videos that suggests the educators wish to make only summaries available, as opposed to full video or transcripts.

"When a teacher brought attention to school books in the library, the video was taken down," Todor explained.

"It seems like the entire database on YouTube was wiped ... but I did see the video. During a radio interview a trustee was asked, 'Do you think the meeting should be available online?' She said, 'It is important to have a summary that didn't quote anything verbatim, but at the same time made sure that people are aware of what's happening during the meeting,'" the father quoted.

\u201c@wrdsb "Why is the @wrdsb wedging a divide between parents and students? What happened to: it's none of you business. When does the board deem it has gone too far?"\u201d

Todor also posted the entirety of his interaction online.

'You are a disgrace': European MPs trash Justin Trudeau to his face during Brussels visit over  'trampling' of Freedom Convoy protests

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was forced to sit and watch as members of the European Parliament out-and-out denounced the leader to his face on Wednesday over his dictatorial handling of the Freedom Convoy protests.

The progressive prime minister — who last month invoked the Emergencies Act to quell vaccine mandate protests in Canada's capital city — was in Brussels, Belgium, this week to urge European leaders to step up their opposition to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

But some MEPs were not so keen on taking instruction from someone they view as a dictator, the Toronto Sun reported.

What are the details?

German MEP Christine Anderson offered Trudeau what she called an appropriate "welcome" to the European Parliament by calling the leader a "disgrace" and condemning him for human rights violations.

"It would have been appropriate for Mr. Trudeau, prime minister of Canada, to address this house, according to article 144, an article, which was specifically designed to debate the violations of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law," Anderson began.

"A prime minister who openly admires the Chinese basic dictatorship, who tramples on fundamental rights by persecuting and criminalizing his own citizens as terrorists just because they dared to stand up to his perverted concept of democracy should not be allowed to speak in this house at all," the lawmaker continued.

She then ended her short speech with a bang, declaring, "You are a disgrace for any democracy. Please spare us your presence," as the prime minister looked on.

What else?

Another MEP, Mislav Kolakusic of Croatia, joined in on the harsh denunciation of the Canadian prime minister.

During his floor speech, Kolakusic made specific reference to Freedom Convoy protesters' controversial encounter with police horses near Parliament Hill when he called out Trudeau's "tramp[ling] of fundamental values."

The MEP said Canada was once a symbol of the modern world but has recently become a "symbol of civil rights violation" under Trudeau’s "quasi-liberal boot."

“We watched how you trample women with horses, how you block bank accounts of single parents so they can’t even pay their children’s education and medicine, that they can’t pay utilities, mortgages for their homes," he charged, adding, "To you, these may be liberal methods, for many citizens of the world, it is a dictatorship of the worst kind."

Following the invocation of the Emergencies Act, the Canadian government took unprecedented actions to halt protests, including freezing private and corporate bank accounts and threatening arrest for parents who brought children to demonstrations.

Kolakusic concluded with a shot at Trudeau's message to the body by saying united citizens of the world "can stop a regime that wants to destroy the freedom of citizens, either by bombs or harmful pharmaceutical products."

Anything else?

Still another MEP, Cristian Terhes of Romania, protested Trudeau's speech by refusing to attend the plenary session.

The MEP said in a Facebook post that Trudeau can’t come and "teach democracy lessons to Putin from the European Parliament when you trample with horse hooves your own citizens who are demanding their fundamental rights be respected."

"The difference between democracy and tyranny is not determined by the geographical location of political leaders, but by the values they promote," Teres added.

German MEP Bernhard Zimniok, too, blasted Trudeau, saying the prime minister should not have been invited to speak. By welcoming the prime minister, he argued the body had sent "an invitation to someone who has been trampling on democratic rights."

"Clearly the values of democracy are being despised by this individual," Zimniok added. "Let us not give someone like this any speaking time in this house of democracy."
