Michigan’s Senate primary just exposed an uncomfortable truth about the Democrat Party



Once again, the Democratic Socialists of America have proven that the Democrat establishment can’t outspend its grassroots army.

On August 4, progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed narrowly won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate over Rep. Haley Stevens, after many DSA members, local chapters, activists, and progressive figures closely tied to the DSA — including Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Rashida Tlaib — mobilized heavily on his behalf.

BlazeTV host Nick Freitas says El-Sayed’s victory reveals something deeply unsettling about the direction the Democratic Party is headed.

“The establishment probably could not have picked a better candidate for what we would call establishment-style Democrat politics in Michigan than Haley Stevens,” says Freitas, highlighting her “long history with Michigan” and her work on both Hillary Clinton's and Barack Obama’s 2008 campaigns.

“She really appealed to the things that you would expect from kind of working-class voters in Michigan … and yet she still lost,” he adds.

According to Freitas, there are “two things going on here.”

“One, you see the machine Democrat Party recognizing that it's probably going to be a lot harder to win with [El-Sayed] in a swing state, and then I think what you also see is this resurgence of far-left politics … within the Democratic Party that is absolutely dedicated and willing to walk in lockstep,” he explains.

Even though Stevens was by no means the “moderate” she was portrayed to be — exemplified by her progressive positions on ICE, abortion, and gun control — Freitas says her classic establishment résumé and deep-pocketed donors made her an easier candidate for the Democrat establishment to get behind.

But in the end, it didn’t matter how much money the Democrat machine spent on her. El-Sayed still came out on top because the DSA is where the momentum and energy is right now.

“What this confirms is that the DSA is every bit as strong as we anticipated it to be, and I think what this demonstrates is that at least going into the midterms, DSA is going to be riding this wave of victories that they've had within primaries,” says Freitas.

“The fact that Abdul Sayed thought this is going to be great for me, and theoretically was, should tell us everything we need to know about where the energy is within the Democratic Party right now,” he continues.

The Democrat establishment, Freitas explains, is failing to beat the DSA not because D candidates are actually true moderates — on the contrary, they’re usually still far-left on core issues — but because the DSA is “very, very honest” about its objectives, which appeals to voters.

“And then to the extent that [the DSA is] losing, they're only losing in places where they don't have sufficient groundwork or they haven't had the sufficient time to work in order to build up a new generation of voters that hate America every bit as much as they do. So what do they settle for?” he asks.

“Well, they settle for candidates who still want to fundamentally change and alter the United States, who still want to allow for mass immigration, who still want to abolish ICE, who still want to abolish prisons or defund the police, but are simply smart enough to not say so out loud,” he answers.

Add it all up and the conclusion regarding the current Democratic Party is bleak: “You have the DSA … you have progressive candidates who pretty much want the same things, but are smart enough to know that you can't say everything that you want out loud … and then you have this ever-dwindling portion of ‘moderate’ Democrats.”

The infectious disease “expert” has shifted his story on gain-of-function research and the lab leak theory — but longtime Democrat Bill Maher isn’t letting him off the hook.

“He was caught in actual lies,” Maher said. “He was telling people — and the big issue to me is the origin of this, which is very important. How did it start? And he was telling people up front when it first began, ‘It was from the wet markets. That’s a conspiracy theory if you say it escaped from the lab.’”

Maher pointed out that the release of Fauci’s diary by Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has proven that he “knew better,” and he blames not only Fauci but the extremely partisan split on how to handle the pandemic.


“If we weren’t so partisan, we could just say gain-of-function research,” he said. “Obama told him not to do it. I would always have said don’t do it. But it’s a viable debate. It’s a reasonable debate. Should we soup up something that’s bad, this bacteria, to study it?”

“We could have had that debate in a rational way,” he continued. “We didn’t want to do that because why? Because we make everything about race.”

Maher recalled that during the pandemic, no one was allowed to say it “escaped from the lab because that was the racist point of view” and would mean “the entire Asian continent would have been somehow complicit in this because it escaped.”

“It was ridiculous, but that is where they went,” he added.

“Welcome to reality. Seriously, welcome to some common sense,” BlazeTV host Pat Gray comments on “Pat Gray Unleashed.”

“He’s starting to see the Democrat Party for what it is,” he adds.

Woke is dead — but what’s rising from its corpse should terrify every American



BlazeTV host Christopher Rufo believes the Democrat Party machine and its woke politics is being replaced by something far more sinister: die-hard socialists and third worldism.

Just last week, three Zohran Mamdani-backed Democratic socialists — Claire Valdez (NY-7), Darializa Avila Chevalier (NY-13), and Brad Lander (NY-10) — won their Democratic congressional primaries, defeating establishment incumbents and candidates, including two sitting representatives.

“The Dem establishment is totally crushed, totally weak, totally ineffective,” says Rufo, “and in New York, we've seen this playing out now for about a year where they tried to run moderate Dem candidates ... trying to stop the DSA candidates from gaining so much power, but the DSA is really running the show.”

“They have control over the municipal government; they have control over the greater New York City congressional delegation; they have a permanent infrastructure,” he continues.

The Democrat establishment, Rufo argues, has virtually become a “misnomer” because the Democratic Socialists of America has really become the establishment power now. They’re the ones with “full-time activists, a full-time messaging apparatus, [and] a full-time get-out-the-vote operation.” They have mastered the art of “out-organizing” their opponents, he says.

Co-host Jonathan Keeperman doesn’t see the Democrat establishment vs. the DSA as a matter of “competing architectures,” however. He believes the left’s “lack of leadership” has allowed the DSA to begin “colonizing the old Democrat machine.”

“The Democrats have nothing even close to ... a singular figure who can point that constituency in a particular electoral direction,” he says, calling the Democrat Party “a totally rudderless ship.”

“[The Democrat Party is] up for contest,” says Rufo, “and it seems clear that the more radical left-wing factions within the Democratic Party feel like they have all of the energy; they have all of the momentum; and that they can ride it to the end point, which is changing the party from within.”

While he acknowledges that DSA power is still relatively confined — pocketed in deep-blue places like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco — its ability to “take a minority faction in a larger political body, capture it, subvert it, bully it, and then get it to submit” is disturbing.

“I think you're going to see a lot of the DSA ideas trickling upward in the party. These activists are going to use their leverage, their star power, their charisma, and it's going to change the Democratic Party,” Rufo predicts.

And that’s a terrifying prospect because these ideas will be rooted not in wokeism, which is bad enough, but in “third worldism” — an even more “serious threat to life, liberty, and property.”

“The left has molted the dead skin of woke,” he says.

The push is no longer “the oppressor-oppressed narrative” that urges redistribution of goods and services to “oppressed groups.” The DSA promotes a far “harder-edged political ideology,” says Rufo. “If you listen to these candidates like Darializa Chevalier, it's seize property, seize housing, seize wealth.”

“It is a third-worldist ideology,” he declares.
