Dem Official Blames San Francisco Homelessness On āCapitalismā
'The Tenderloin is absolutely the result of capitalism'
Democratic Socialists of America ā which is backed by members of the so-called "Squad" ā is holding a rally in support of the Palestinian cause on Sunday afternoon.
Democratic Socialists of America is the self-described "largest socialist organization in the United States with over 90,000 members" with a mission of "building working class power to challenge the dominance of the wealthy and the powerful in the five boroughs."
Following the deadly surprise attack on Israel by Hamas militants that took the lives of more than 600 Israeli soldiers and citizens, Democratic Socialists of America announced that it was hosting a pro-āPalestineā rally at 1 p.m. in New York Cityās Times Square.
The DSA said, "In solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist 75 years of occupation and apartheid FREE PALESTINE!"
Democratic Socialists of America urged demonstrators to take "protest safety" seriously because "police repression is no joke." It urged socialist protesters to not go out alone, "make sure someone knows where you are," and to give someone "your legal info in case you're arrested."

In another tweet, DSA blamed Israel for the worst single-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
"DSA is steadfast in expressing our solidarity with Palestine," the socialist organization wrote. "Todayās events are a direct result of Israelās apartheid regime ā a regime that receives billions in funding from the United States."
"End the violence. End the Occupation. Free Palestine," the group declared.
"We unequivocally condemn the killing of all civilians. It is imperative for international human rights law to be respected," DSA said, before condemning Israel, "But we cannot forget that the Israeli state has systematically denied Palestinians the right to self-determination for decades."
"This was not unprovoked," Democratic Socialists of America asserted. "For over 60 years, Palestinians have faced ethnic cleansing, torture, bombings, and housing demolitions. Gaza is still under a blockade. As socialists, we must act."
There are six progressive U.S. House of Representatives who support Democratic Socialists of America. Members of The Squad who belong to the DSA include Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Cori Bush (D-Mo.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), and Greg Casar (D-Texas).
Following the unprecedented attacks on Israel by Hamas that included taking women and children as hostages and parading victims' bodies through the street, members of The Squad issued statements ordering Israel not to retaliate. The Democratic representatives all had a nearly identical message, calling for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation.
AOC said in a statement:
Today is devastating for all those seeking a lasting peace and respect for human rights in Israel and Palestine. I condemn Hamasā attack in the strongest possible terms. No child and family should ever endure this kind of violence and fear, and this violence will not solve the ongoing oppression and occupation in the region," Ocasio-Cortez continued. An immediate ceasefire and de-escalation is urgently needed to save lives.
Omar said:
I condemn the horrific acts we are seeing unfold today in Israel against children, women, the elderly, and the unarmed people who are being slaughtered and taken hostage by Hamas. Such senseless violence will only repeat the back and forth cycle we've seen, which we cannot allow to continue. We need to call for deescalation and ceasefire. I will keep advocating for peace and justice throughout the Middle East.
Bush stated:
I am heartbroken by the ongoing violence in Palestine and Israel, and I mourn the over 250 Israeli and 230 Palestinian lives that have been lost today, and the thousands injured, following attacks by Hamas militants on Israeli border towns and Israeli military bombardment of Gaza. I strongly condemn the targeting of civilians and I urge an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation to prevent further loss of life.
Cesar said:
I unequivocally condemn the killings & kidnappings by Hamas, & I mourn the deaths of innocent Israeli & Palestinian civilians. We must de-escalate this before the cycle of violence worsens further ā and work toward a lasting peace without terrorist attacks, occupation, & war. In the coming days, we urge for all hostages to be released and for all civilians to be protected.
Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Ayanna Pressley added:
These devastating attacks on Israelis are deeply alarming and my heart breaks for the victims & their loved ones. We need an immediate ceasefire & de-escalation. It is long past time to stop this cycle of violence & trauma, and work toward a just & lasting peace in the region.
At the time of publication, Tlaib had not issued a statement on the deadly Hamas invasion of Israel.

Fresh off his win in the Democratic primary in the race for New York City mayor ā which means he's all but certain to be the next man to bear the title "Hizzoner" ā Eric Adams went after the anti-police and socialist factions of his party.
And his fellow Democrats were not happy.
So they called him into a private meeting where they warned him not to attack the democratic socialist members of the left, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.)
The New York Post posted a video Tuesday of Adams at a fundraiser co-hosted by a Republican city councilmember.
During a speech to attendees, Adams made it clear that his archenemies were not Republicans but the left-wing Democratic Socialists of America.
"My battle is not [GOP candidate] Curtis Sliwa," Adams said.
"I'm no longer running against candidates," he added. "I'm running against a movement. All across the country, the DSA socialists are mobilizing to stop Eric Adams. They realize that if I'm successful, we're going to start the process of regaining controls of our cities."
His recently reported remarks echo what the onetime NYPD captain said late last month after winning the Democratic primary.
"Look at me and you're seeing the future of the Democratic Party," he said, Politico reported. "If the Democratic Party fails to recognize what we did here in New York, they're going to have a problem in the midterm elections and they're going to have a problem in the presidential election."
"We have allowed a group to hijack the term progressive," Adams said. "So what I'm saying to the Democratic Party ā stop believing a numerical minority is what the numerical majority is."
Though Adams did not mention any elected officials by name in the newly published video, Democrats clearly believed he was alluding to Ocasio-Cortez ā the infamous self-proclaimed democratic socialist (whom, the Post noted, the DSA calls its "foremost socialist superstar") who has led the cry for defunding the police ā with his remarks.
So when Adams was in Washington, D.C., Wednesday ā a day after the Post story broke ā Democratic members of the New York congressional delegation "invited" him to a closed-door meeting, the New York Times reported.
During the meeting, Rep. Nydia M. Velazquez cautioned him not to criticize any New York congressional Democrats.
"I said I wanted to remind him that in the age of social media and communications, that we needed to be careful as to what we say and that it is important that we treated everyone with respect," Velazquez confirmed to the Times.
The far-left progressive lawmaker added that she wanted to "clear the air" and to warn Adams not "to be disrespectful."
"I want for him to know that I am prepared to call people out," Velazquez added.
Ocasio-Cortez told the Times she made sure to offer Adams a little "piece of advice."
"It is always a good idea for any mayor to respect all of the members that are responsible for representing the delegation, and not just to respect us as individuals but to respect the communities that we represent," she said.
A hugely popular influencer who often promoted democratic-socialist messaging has been branded as a "hypocrite" after bragging about her new $2 million apartment and fancy new BMW.
Nicole Sanchez, known online as "Neekolul," became an overnight sensation last year when she went viral for her TikTok video of her dancing while wearing a shirt promoting Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) during the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries. Sanchez was lip-syncing a song with lyrics: "Whatever you say, Boomer. OK, Boomer." Sanchez captioned the video: "Like to trigger the BOOMERS #bernie2020." The song dismisses baby boomers, while simultaneously endorsing 79-year-old Sanders, who is too old to be considered a boomer, and is among the "silent generation" classification.
The viral video racked up tens of millions of views, and instantly made Sanchez an online standout while also promoting Sanders to a younger generation.

Last March, Neekolul posted another "OK Boomer" video, this time promoting another democratic-socialist politician ā Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). In this TikTok video, Sanchez is wearing a $58 sweatshirt that reads: "TAX THE RICH." The pricey shirt is sold by Ocasio-Cortez's merchandise shop that completely embraces capitalism.

Last week, Sanchez bragged about her new $2 million apartment. Neekolul gave her hundreds of thousands of social media followers a 10-minute virtual tour of her swanky new abode, complete with smart "Martha Stewart"-style kitchen, "East Wing" gaming room, master bedroom with "180-degree" views of the city skyline, and a walk-in closet.

Last month, Sanchez posed with a brand new convertible BMW. Fox Business estimates Nicole Sanchez has a net worth of between $1 to $5 million.

Online commenters quickly branded Sanchez as a "hypocrite," and told her to "pay more taxes."
Sanchez responded to the criticism by saying that "tax the rich" only applies to "like billionaires."
"I think when people mean like tax rich, I think at the end of the day they do mean like billionaires and people that have insane unfathomable amounts of wealth," Sanchez said. "Listen, listen whoever wants to show me to where those $1 to $5 million dollars are, I would happily follow you and reclaim them because I have no idea where this money is at or where it's from."
As moderate Democrats and far-left progressives continue to fight over the identity of their party, Democrats in Nevada recently took a stand after so-called democratic socialists won party leadership roles.
The entire staff of the Nevada Democratic Party resigned over the weekend after far-left progressives won leadership roles in the party.
In elections that took place on Saturday, far-left progressives won every leadership spot, five in all. The candidates were backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, and all but one of the winning candidates is a dues-paying member of the DSA.
The existing leadership responded by resigning, The Intercept reported. In fact, the entire staff, including consultants, abruptly resigned.
From The Intercept:
Not long after Judith Whitmer won her election on Saturday to become chair of the Nevada Democratic Party, she got an email from the party's executive director, Alana Mounce. The message from Mounce began with a note of congratulations, before getting to her main point.
She was quitting. So was every other employee. And so were all the consultants. And the staff would be taking severance checks with them, thank you very much.
One staffer anonymously told The Intercept, "I knew I couldn't work with her and watch her destroy the years of hard work so many operatives put into making our state party the best state party in the country."
Victory for democratic socialists was made possible by groundwork laid by activists who worked on Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign in 2016, according to The Intercept. They continued building momentum where it mattered over the last several years, making Saturday's victory possible.
While progressives appear to be making inroads in some states, there remains a sharp divide within the power structures of the Democratic Party about which direction the party should go.
While Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) hopes to steer her party further left, moderate Democrats wholeheartedly believe that would be disastrous for Democrats.
In fact, many Democrats, like Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), believe far-left policies like "defund the police" and "open borders" are responsible for Democrats losing numerous House seats in the 2020 election.
"We need to be pretty clear," Spanberger reportedly said after the election. "It was a failure. It was not a success. We lost incredible members of Congress.
"We have to commit to not saying the words 'defund the police' ever again," she said. "We need to not ever use the words socialist or socialism ever again."
"If we run this race again we will get f***ing torn apart again in 2022," Spanberger predicted.
