Check out refreshing surprise in video of yet another physical attack in front of crowd of bystanders

A refreshing surprise was seen in yet another video of a physical attack taking place in front of a crowd of bystanders — a couple of men actually intervened and held the suspect until police arrived.

What are the details?

Surveillance video inside a Thai restaurant in Berkeley, California — the owner asked KGO-TV to not name it — shows a man at the bottom of the screen who had asked for free food around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

When the man was told no, the restaurant owner told KGO her nephew went over to see what was wrong.

With that, the man is seen knocking the nephew over a table to the floor and kicking him multiple times.

But the attacker didn't get a chance to do much else.

The clip shows two men who were dining at separate tables inside the restaurant getting up from their seats and grabbing and restraining the attacker.

According to Sarah, one of the owners of the family-run establishment, other customers ran from the scene and hid in the restroom and the kitchen, KGO reported.

"It was quite a shock, and everyone was scared," Sarah added to the station.

What happened next?

The two men helped restrain the attacker until Berkeley police arrived a short time later, KGO said.

Sarah extended a "thank you" to them during the interview with the station: "Just want to say thank you so much for your help, and you're very kind. You didn't hesitate to help us on that day. If that day nobody did anything, the man could have gotten away. Really, really appreciate you being our customer and being a Good Samaritan."

Certainly intervening in this type of situation isn't completely unheard of, but as readers of TheBlaze know all too well, it seems as though there have been a growing number of cases in which onlookers choose to just watch the attacks or, worse yet, record them on video for laughs.

Anything else?

Berkeley police told KGO the attacker was arrested for serious felony assault.

“UPDATE: Berkeley Police sent me this mugshot of 32-year old Anthony Demaria who was arrested in connection to this incident.

He was charged with felony assault by the DA. https://t.co/upxI5mAreo”

Sarah added to the station that the suspect later said his behavior was due to a death in the family.

Video shows armed thugs targeting San Francisco engagement photoshoots, stealing camera equipment in broad daylight: 'The bride was crying the whole time'

The latest crime being committed in San Francisco is thugs targeting photographers who are shooting engagement photoshoots. Two such robberies were attempted on Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight with numerous witnesses.

Two photographers shooting outside the romantic Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco were the targets of armed thieves.

A photographer from Dallas, Texas, flew into San Francisco to shoot an engagement photo session for a couple around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Suddenly, two armed and masked men attempted to steal the photographer's expensive camera equipment at gunpoint. There were reportedly dozens of witnesses, but nobody intervened.

Video shows the photographer fighting back, but the robbers pistol-wiped the man. The photographer was able to hold onto the camera equipment and the attempted robbers fled the scene empty-handed.

The victim suffered injuries and was bleeding from his head.

The photographer – who wished to not be named in fear of retaliation – told ABC7 News, "I was just freaked out. I tried to protect the client's memories. The bride was crying the whole time."

The photographer – who is a new father – vowed to never shoot at the Palace of Fine Arts again, and is warning others to steer clear of the area.

Earlier in the day, another photographer was robbed. Video shows that the suspects could be the same duo in the engagement photoshoot attempted robbery. In this robbery, they are seen stealing a bag of camera equipment to their car waiting in the middle of the street.

Both violent incidents were reported to the San Francisco Police Department, but no arrests have been announced.

San Francisco-based wedding photographer Monica Lam shooting at the Palace of Fine Arts said, "I was just scared. Yeah, I was scared. I was very nervous coming here today, I didn't know what to make of it."

Liam noted, "It does change things for me for sure. I think possibility next year, I won't have that many shoots in San Francisco anymore."

"Just watching kind of like the struggle and everything. I just felt for him. I felt for the couple because I know that they felt helpless," said

In March 2021, a TV news crew was robbed in broad daylight in San Francisco.

“I also interviewed to a Bay Area photographer who took this video earlier in the day— also at the Palace of Fine Arts.

He believes it’s the same suspects. In this case the photographer lost a lot of gear. You can see a suspect running away with it. #SanFrancisco”

'For dimwits in California who are antigun, how is it going?' Three crooks caught on video attacking, robbing Asian man on Oakland street in broad daylight

Three allegedly armed men were caught on at least two cellphone videos attacking an Asian man in broad daylight Thursday on an Oakland street, wrestling away his luxury backpack, then taking off in a getaway car.

What are the details?

KGO-TV anchor and reporter Dion Lim posted the videos on her Twitter page saying those who recorded them gave her permission to do so in order to bring awareness to the spike in such crimes but that they requested anonymity.

Lim said a man who works around 27th and Valdez Streets said he saw three men jump out of a car around 4 p.m. The clip shows a man on the ground struggling with two of the three men. Lim said witnesses and sources told her the men were armed; she added that the victim, who is Asian, was assaulted and that his Louis Vuitton backpack was stolen.

She added that the victim can be heard yelling "please!" multiple times as the driver of a passing car honks its horn, presumably to draw attention to the crime taking place. The victim is seen running after the getaway car, to no avail.

You can hear the victim yell “please!” multiple times as a nearby car honks.
⠀
2 dif ppl took these videos & requested anonymity but gave me permission to post them to raise awareness.

The victim runs after the getaway car in an attempt to stop the suspects. Lim said Oakland police arrived on scene a short time later and are investigating.

She added that people who work in the area — which is full of shops and businesses and housing — told her they see car break-ins and other crimes constantly. One nearby worker added to Lim that crime “is happening daily here” — and she said he got off the phone call "quickly" and was "afraid to share more."

…“is happening daily here” like cars broken into & he got off the phone quickly, afraid to share more.
⠀
NOTE: The videos are longer but this is more than enough to illustrate what happened. There was also blood on the ground so the clips were shortened. (4/4) #Oakland
⠀

How are folks reacting?

Commenters on Lim's posts were horrified and angered by yet another example of brazen street crime in the Bay Area:

 • "Oh god, what is happening to all of us?" one user wondered.
 • "Oakland and SF need to wake up," another commenter said. "Soft on crime isn't working."
 • "Sad state of affairs in America when you have to hide your watch or bag as if you are in Venezuela," another user declared. "The widespread use of concealed or open carry prevents this stuff; sooner or later one of these guys tries it against someone armed. Darwinism at its finest."
 • "For dimwits in California who are antigun, how is it going?" another commenter asked. "Police cannot be everywhere. If he had gun we would be talking about something else."
 • "STOP ... reelecting the garbage politicians that created this crime wave," another user demanded. "CA Democrats have ... supermajority control of the state government. You voted for the state government that created this."

VIDEO: San Francisco store owners fight back against teenage smash-and-grab robbers who use hammers as weapons. The crooks lose.

Owners of a San Francisco camera store fought back against a trio of teenage smash-and-grab robbers Monday — and even though the crooks used hammers in the fight, they all ran off apparently without any merchandise.

What are the details?

The teens walked into the Chinatown store around 3:20 p.m. and asked about the price of a camera, KPIX-TV reported, adding that they hung around for about three minutes and then departed.

The station said they returned about 30 minutes later — and weren't interested in a transaction.

“All of a sudden, they pulled out a hammer, and they started trying to smash the glass,” shop co-owner Sergio told KPIX.

Problem was, the cases behind the counter are plexiglass and wouldn’t break, the station said, adding that one glass countertop case did shatter.

Surveillance video shows one of the store owners grabbing what appears to be a bat or a rod, and he approaches the crooks, two of whom swing hammers at Sergio and the other co-owner.

“One of the guys up there is trying to hit my partner with a hammer,” Sergio told the station. “I run, and I try to grab a bat that I have. Try to protect myself and my business here.”

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @DionLimTV

KPIX said a neighboring business owner ran over to help and was hit in the head with a hammer, after which he needed 10 stitches.

“One of the guys, they put the pepper spray in my eyes,” Sergio added to the station. “The other guy is trying to hit me with a hammer, and I’m trying to protect myself.”

After about a minute the attempted robbery and hammer attack were over, KPIX said. Video shows the trio running out of the trashed store, apparently without any merchandise.

The station said the store co-owners have been in the camera business for 27 years, but now they're nervous about coming in to work.

"We don’t know them – but they know us because we work over here seven days a week," Ariel, the other co-owner, told KPIX.

Sergio added to the station, "After this, I’m worried, and I’m scared – because God forbid if they come back. Hopefully they [are] not gonna come back. But if they come back with a gun, what happens?”

Anything else?

KPIX said groups — including the Chinatown Volunteer Coalition — were patrolling the streets Monday night, which is a common sight since the spike in anti-Asian attacks.

“They’re worried because the police might not be there in time," one of the volunteers, who declined to share his name for privacy reasons, told the station. "Even when they are there, they don’t know what could be done."

KPIX said the volunteer explained that robbers often pretend to be interested in an item at first and then return later with bad intentions.

“Sometimes people are deterred just by seeing sheer numbers, so there have been cases where we have seen someone look like they were going to attack or do something that’s criminal, but because they saw us or other people around, they chose not to,” the volunteer added to the station. “Sometimes we have to yell.”

'Give me your f***ing purse!': One day after Christmas, an elderly married couple is assaulted, robbed at gunpoint on busy street in broad daylight

On the day after Christmas, a married couple in their seventies was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint on a busy street in broad daylight in the Chinatown neighborhood of Oakland, California — and it was all caught on video.

What are the details?

KGO-TV reported that the couple had just left a friend's jewelry shop on Franklin Street when a man drew a gun.

"Give me your f***ing purse!" the armed man hollered, according to station anchor Dion Lim, who later spoke to the husband.

While trying to back away from the armed attacker, the man and woman both fell to the ground, and the armed attacker pulled the woman's purse from her and ran off to a getaway car.

…a man approaches, pulls a gun.

Mr. H said the man “said give me your f**king purse!” then pushed Mrs. H to the ground took her purse & ran off. The couple is physically OK, Lim reported on Twitter.

'More police presence'

Carl Chan, president of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, told KGO that crime was down in the neighborhood before the holidays, but he will lobby for more law enforcement protection: "Not only are we needing more police presence in the community, we need to install additional cameras and license plate readers because it has proven successful in many cities."

'Broken society'

The male victim in the attack told the station that Oakland feels like "a broken society" in the wake of COVID and that he and his wife sustained some bruises but "fortunately ... have no broken bones or anything serious. Mentally we are really scared."

The male victim added to the station that he doesn't believe defunding the police is a good idea and is grateful his four children are nearby and can deliver groceries and help with errands.

Man who faces 95 years in jail for hate crime robberies targeted Asian women daily, held prejudiced belief that they don't have bank accounts: Court documents

San Jose police recently made six arrests for related hate crime robberies and attacks against Asian American women — but what the primary suspect admitted stunned prosecutors, KGO-TV reported.

What are the details?

Anthony Robinson — who faces up to 95 years in jail — targeted multiple Asian women daily, the station said, and court documents show he deliberately targeted Asian victims based on his prejudiced assumption that they don't believe in bank accounts.

I was told by the SCC DA’s office Anthony Robinson targeted multiple Asian women DAILY.

He’s wake up, find someone to help target Asians b/c he believed “they did not believe in bank accounts….& they were easy victims.” #StopAsianHate #StopAAPIHate

https://abc7ne.ws/30y46bY pic.twitter.com/CX1eD4xLn4
— Dion Lim (@Dion Lim) 1639710336

"The callousness of these crimes we could not get past ... you can dehumanize the population literally by treating them as storefronts instead of people," Supervising Deputy District Attorney of Santa Clara County Marisa McKeown told KGO.

Authorities said Robinson, 24, and the other five suspects worked together on more than 70 incidents of robbery, theft, and burglary from October 2020 to September 2021, the San Jose Mercury News said.

The Mercury News reported that, along with Robinson who hails from Stockton, the police released the names of the other suspects: 27-year-old Cameron Alonzo Moody of East Palo Alto, 23-year-old Derje Damond Blanks of San Jose, 24-year-old Hassani Burleson Ramsey of Oakland, 21-year-old Clarence Jackson of East Palo Alto, and 21-year-old Malik Short of Tracy.

All six men were also charged with hate crime enhancements by the county D.A.'s office, the paper added.

McKeown also explained to KGO why three of the men — Short, Ramsey, and Blanks — were released from custody: "Not every member of this criminal group had an equal role. So Anthony Robinson quite clearly was engaged in a voluminous number of incidents, but some other individuals who were involved may have participated in only one or a few incidents, and therefore they stand in very different shoes in terms of the charging decision."

Anything else?

The station said that additional charges for all six men will soon be announced, and McKeown said the investigation is far from complete, noting dozens more unsolved incidents.

Crook caught on video trying to snatch woman's purse in broad daylight. But victim's son, daughter spring into action, fight off crook, chase him away.

A 54-year-old woman was seen on surveillance walking up the steps to her Oakland home last week, KGO-TV reported, when a man was seen moving quickly down the sidewalk:

He then made a fast left turn and headed up the steps after the woman:

What happened next?

The man attempted to snatch the woman's purse and was seen in the clip pulling on it as he moved down the steps to the sidewalk, dragging the woman down the steps as well.

But the station said the victim's daughter Jamie had just driven her mother home. And in the clip, Jamie, 22 — who presumably already was on or near the steps when her mother began walking up to the house — is seen next to her mother on the way down, joining in the fight against the crook.

And within seconds the victim's son dashes down the steps and fights with the man as Jamie and her mother tumble backward and fall on the sidewalk and against a car.

The victim's son, 17, chases away the crook — who appears to leave the scene empty-handed.

After checking whether their mom is OK, Jamie and her brother are seen running after the would-be thief. KGO reported that the he jumped into a getaway car.

KGO reporter Dion Lim, who posted video of the incident, said the mother wasn't badly injured, suffering scrapes from the purse tussle.

Jamie — who gave the station her first name only — later told Lim that she and her brother weren't thinking about their own safety, just how to protect their mom: "Sometimes parents get nervous very easily, and they don't know what to do. As the younger generation we try to protect the elder generation."

Lim reported that Jamie called this incident "bad luck" since her family has been attacked and robbed twice before — and both incidents occurred in different parts of the city. Lim also noted in one of her Twitter posts concerning the incident, "Personally I think it’s more than just bad luck…something bigger needs to be fixed." She added a "StopAsianHate" hashtag as well.

KGO reported that there have been no arrests.

Another senseless attack on elderly man — 91 years old — on Bay Area street caught on surveillance video

On the heels of a sickening attack caught on video against an 84-year-old man in San Francisco that resulted in his death earlier this month, a similar assault against an unsuspecting elderly man was caught on video in Oakland's Chinatown, KGO-TV reported.

What are the details?

The 91-year-old victim was shoved from behind to the sidewalk outside the Asian Resource Center, the station said:

⚠️ WARNING: this video is hard to watch. Another shocking attack in Oakland’s Chinatown. 8th and Harrison Streets.… https://t.co/Cgxq5xD3Ez
— Dion Lim (@Dion Lim)1612466747.0

But the perp wasn't done.

"The suspect then approached a 60-year-old man and 55-year-old woman from behind that were also walking in the 800 block of Harrison Street," Oakland police said in a press release regarding the Jan. 31 attack, KGO reported. "The suspect pushed both victims to the ground, resulting in the woman losing consciousness. The man also suffered injury. Both victims were treated at a local hospital for their injuries."

The 91-year-old victim suffered cuts, scrapes, and a bruised thumb, KRON-TV reported.

Suspect arrested

"We are filing charges against a suspect identified as Yahya Muslim," Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley said Monday, according to a KGO-TV follow-up story. "We have charged him with three counts of assault that involve three separate victims."

Yahya Muslim Image source: Alameda County Sheriff's Office

Muslim was booked Feb. 1 on an unrelated criminal case and jailed, the station said, adding that he's also facing charges of inflicting great bodily injury and committing a crime against an elderly person. O'Malley said Muslim has two prior felony assault convictions, KGO noted.

An investigator from the DA's office is looking into the case, KRON said, adding that it's possible hate crime charges could come at a later date.

What happened in the San Francisco attack?

There is concern about an epidemic of unprovoked attacks against the Bay Area's Asian population, particularly against the elderly.

Another violent attack took place Jan. 28 in San Francisco, as video captured the moment a man sprinted across a street toward an 84-year-old man walking across a driveway, slammed his body into the elderly victim, and knocked him flat on his back.

The victim — identified by family members as Vicha Ratanapakdee, a native of Thailand, KTVU-TV reported — was hit so hard he flew from the middle of the driveway and slid backward until the top of his head appeared to touch a garage door.

Ratanapakdee died Jan. 30, the station said.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the attack.

Asian actors step up

Two Asian American actors put up reward money for information leading to the arrest of the Oakland suspect, KGO reported.

"Racist rhetoric from the pandemic have targeted us as being the reason for coronavirus. And so Asians across the board have been targeted, being pushed, attacked, spat on," Daniel Wu said, according to the station. "Outside of San Francisco, in Los Angeles and in New York, these incidents are happening all over the country."

Wu and Daniel Dae Kim both offered a $25,000 reward, KGO added.

Security video captured the moment when a man sprinted across a San Francisco street toward an 84-year-old man walking across a driveway, slammed his body into the elderly victim, and knocked him flat on his back Thursday morning.

The victim — identified by family members as Vicha Ratanapakdee, a native of Thailand, KTVU-TV reported — was hit so hard he flew from the middle of the driveway and slid backward until the top of his head appeared to touch a garage door.

Ratanapakdee died Saturday, the station said.

What are the details?

Officers discovered the victim lying on the sidewalk in the Anza Vista neighborhood, administered aid, and called medics to transport him to a hospital for life-threatening injuries, KGO-TV reported. He died two days later.

Security video of the 8:30 a.m. incident was captured by a neighbor, KTVU said, adding that police said investigators later recovered the video and determined the assailant fled with a female associate.

What happened to the suspects?

Police on Friday obtained an arrest warrant for 19-year-old Antoine Watson for assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse causing great bodily injury, the San Francisco Examiner reported.

Police added to the paper they were told the victim died of his injuries Saturday, and the department's Homicide Detail took over the investigation.

Officers from the police department's Tactical Unit and Homicide Detail served a search warrant on the 500 block of Lisbon Street in Daly City at about 8:45 pm. Saturday, where Watson and 20-year-old Maylasia Goo were taken into custody, the Examiner said, citing police.

Watson was taken to San Francisco County Jail and booked on the outstanding arrest warrant and one count of murder, police told the Examiner, adding that Goo also was taken to the jail and booked on one count of accessory after the fact.

The motivation for the attack wasn't clear, KGO said.

'Racially motivated'

KTVU spoke to the victim's family members, who believe the attack on Ratanapakdee was "racially motivated."

His relatives also said they've been receiving anti-Asian verbal attacks since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the station reported.

Family member said Ratanapakdee — who came to the U.S. to live with family and take care of his grandchildren — was a gentle person and nearly blind.
