Virginia dad goes nuclear on teachers' union boss: They require 'permission slips' for 'snacks,' 'field trips' but not to 'talk about my son’s penis'

A father in Loudoun County, Virginia, tore into American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten this week after the union boss claimed that a growing parental rights movement in America could lead to civil war.

What did he say?

Brandon Michon — an outspoken parent who is also running for Congress as a Republican in Virginia's 10th district — told Fox News on Monday that union heads and school boards across the country are the ones who started the conflict by pushing progressive ideologies in schools.

"They've already invaded the classroom," Michon charged.

"When you think about it, [the union] colluded with the CDC, colluded with the DOJ and this administration on calling parents domestic terrorists," he said.

Michon, who has four children under the age of 10, accused Loudoun County Public Schools and other progressive school districts of pushing their radical views surrounding sexual orientation, gender identity, and critical race theory on children without consent from parents.

"They have to have signed permission slips for their snacks, they have to have signed permission slips to go on field trips, but no one is asking me for permission to talk about my son’s penis," he exclaimed. "It is unacceptable. They are pushing indoctrination on the most innocent part of the population."

The special interest groups and unions invaded education a long time ago. Parents will continue to advocate for a proper education of our children.

When elected I will investigate you @rweingarten

Join us May 21st so we can get this country back on track.

#VA10 @FoxNewspic.twitter.com/Lb6llsB0Vf

What's the background?

Weingarten made headlines last week after going off on proponents of the parental rights in education movement in America during an unhinged radio interview.

"We've been very lucky in America, and we in some ways live in a bubble for a long time. This is propaganda. This is misinformation. This is the way in which wars start. This is the way in which hatred starts," the teachers union leader fumed to radio host Rick Smith.

Elsewhere in the discussion, she called backlash against progressive ideology being taught in public schools an "existential threat" to the country and complained that "right-wing extremists" are "exploiting" parents' fears to accomplish political ends.

Weingarten's remarks served as a flash point in the heated battle between parents who want more control over their children's education and the leaders of educational institutions who think they know better.

In recent months, parental outrage over transgender-affirming and critical race theory curricula in schools has culminated in legislation aiming to prevent such unwanted indoctrination. Perhaps the most popular piece of legislation is Florida's House Bill 1557, which bars classroom discussion on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through the third grade and establishes scaleable guidelines for discussion on the subject matter in grades thereafter.

What else?

Outraged over what his children were being taught in school, Michon decided to speak up at school board meetings last year. Now he's running for office with a campaign focused on parental empowerment and putting children's interests first.

"The children just want to learn," Michon told Fox News.

"If you want to talk about the biggest equalizer in all of education, literacy. Let’s get back to teaching more literacy. That [lifts] up all socio-economic classes," he argued, adding, "Don’t talk about the vocal minority of parents when there is vocal minority on the other side. We need to renew the focus on our children. Math, science, history, the things that will make them good members of society."

Body of missing Texas National Guard soldier Bishop Evans found

Authorities have recovered the body of a Texas National Guard member who went missing while attempting to save two drowning migrants at the southern border.

Texas Army National Guard Specialist Bishop E. Evans, 22, lost his life Friday "while trying to selflessly help migrants who appeared to be drowning as they tried to cross the river from Mexico into the U.S," the Texas Military Department said.

Evans' body was found Monday morning after an extensive search involving multiple state agencies. He is presumed to have drowned during the rescue attempt.

“We are devastated by the loss of a member of our Guard family,” said Maj Gen Tom Suelzer, adjutant general for Texas. “We recognize the selflessness of this heroic Soldier who put his life above others in service to our state and national security. The Texas Military Department sends our deepest condolences to the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time”

Evans was assigned to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star border initiative, which the governor launched in March to counter illegal immigration and the illegal drug trade.

On Friday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time, Evans jumped into the Rio Grande River in an attempt to save the lives of two migrants who appeared to be drowning. Officials said the migrants, who "were involved in illicit transnational narcotics trafficking," survived and were taken into federal custody, but Evans went missing.

Search and rescue operations lead by the Texas Rangers in partnership with other agencies began Friday and continued over the weekend, until his body was found Monday.

Abbott said in a statement he was "heartbroken" to learn of Evans' death in the line of duty.

We are heartbroken to learn of the death of SPC Bishop Evans.

He heroically served his state & country.

I want to thank all rescue teams that worked to locate this soldier.

Join me & Cecilia in praying for the family & friends of SPC Evans.pic.twitter.com/xwSZlqEGhT

"Our National Guard soldiers risk their lives every day to serve and protect others, and we are eternally grateful for the way SPC Evans heroically served his state and country," Abbott said Monday. "I ask that Texans join Cecilia and me in praying for the family and friends of SPC Evans as they grieve this heartbreaking loss."

The governor also thanked the Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Border Patrol, and local law enforcement "for working around the clock to locate this soldier."

"SPC Evans, 22, a field artilleryman from Arlington, Texas is assigned to A Battery, 4-133 Field Artillery Regiment in New Braunfels Texas, and joined the Texas Army National Guard in May 2019. He returned in the fall of 2020 from mobilization to Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait," the Texas Military Department said in a statement.

"During this mobilization, his dedication, talents, and tactical prowess led his leadership to regularly assign him to operations in Iraq in support of Special Operations Forces for short periods of time, while then rotating back into Kuwait."

"This morning SPC Evans’ body was found and identified by local authorities," said Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Republican who represents the Eagle Pass area. "This young soldier made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of protecting and serving our country. He will never be forgotten."

Texas National Guard identifies soldier who went missing while trying to save drowning migrants who were reportedly smuggling drugs

The Texas National Guardsman who went missing while attempting to save two drowning migrants at the southern border has been identified. The search for the missing Texas National Guardsman continues.

The soldier who went missing in Maverick County has been identified as 22-year-old Bishop E. Evans from Arlington, Texas. The department notified the missing soldier's family on Friday night.

Migrants were trying to cross a river in Eagle Pass on Friday. Two migrants "appeared to be drowning as they illegally crossed the river from Mexico to the United States," officials told Fox News. Bishop – who was assigned to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star border initiative – tried to save the drowning migrants.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber told the Associated Press that "Evans took off his jacket and left his radio before going into the water around 8:30 a.m. Friday."

“He jumped in the river,” Schmerber added. “They never saw him come out."

A multiple agency search and rescue effort commenced after Evans went missing in the river, including search parties, boats, and helicopters. Dive teams joined the search shortly after, but were forced to suspend operations after the force of river currents strengthened.

The Texas Military Department released an update regarding the search on Sunday: "The search for the missing TMD soldier will continue until we have exhausted all available resources. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family of the soldier."

Horowitz: The massive invasion and human rights violations ... at our own border harming our communities

We have the wealthiest, most sophisticated and brutal cartels at our border who surveil our side of the border with cutting-edge technology and bring over millions of impoverished aliens, thousands of dangerous criminals and gang members, and drugs killing over 100,000 Americans a year. Perhaps if we renamed Texas or Arizona “Ukraine,” we’d get Republicans to finally care about the issue.

It’s not that Putin hasn’t violated human rights and invaded a sovereign nation. It’s that the testosterone levels of GOP politicians go from 0 to 100 instantaneously when discussing the sovereignty of every nation but our own. Our government continues to refuse to release this year’s ICE immigration enforcement report, but the preliminary numbers paint a shocking picture.

NEW: Prelim ICE data shows a massive drop in deportations in FY ‘21 compared to previous years, despite much higher encounters.

FY 21: 55,590 deportations
1.7 million encounters

FY 20: 185,884 deportations
458,000 encounters

FY 19: 267,258 deportations
977,000 encounters
— Bill Melugin (@Bill Melugin) 1644452899
BREAKING: In a federal court filing obtained by @FoxNews, DHS reports 153,941 migrant encounters in January, almost doubling Jan. ‘21 (78,414) and more than quadruple Jan. ‘20 (36,585).
DHS also reports 62,573 migrants were released into U.S. just last month alone. @FoxNewspic.twitter.com/RiEPKVsQi3

We are on pace for roughly 700,000 illegal aliens to be released into our country in one year. Moreover, this open invitation has allowed the cartels to strategically distract our agents with babysitting while smuggling in thousands of people who are even more problematic. Consider the magnitude of Biden’s invitation to invade America. Look at the percentage increase in Border Patrol apprehensions of categories of criminals since Biden took office:

Notice the jump in apprehensions of convicted murderers and sex offenders. Now consider the fact that those people pay the cartels a significant sum of money to be strategically and surreptitiously crossed. Given their successful business model, it’s hard to imagine CBP apprehending more than a tiny fraction of these dangerous criminals. Every boatload of fake refugees our agents are forced to deal with is a strategic ploy for the cartels to cross over dangerous individuals. That is an invasion.

We will never know the full scope of the number of dangerous criminals who enter our country, but we can begin to quantify how much it affects our safety by looking back during the Trump administration when they were still apprehending them inside our country. If you go back to FY 2018, ICE apprehended criminal aliens who together racked up 542,798 criminal convictions and arrests. The numbers include 2,028 homicide offenses, 5,562 robberies, 11,766 weapons offenses, 50,753 assault charges, 76,585 dangerous drug charges, 80,730 DUIs, and over 12,000 sexual offenses.

Just ponder for a moment the immeasurable carnage caused by our senseless disregard for sovereignty and the number of nameless victims the media will never spotlight. This data doesn’t include those criminal charge categories that had fewer than 1,000. Only 29% of those were unconvicted charges, which likely means that the main focus of ICE removal operations, understandably so, is on convictions because they focus on the prisons and jails. Which means there are likely many more arrested for crimes who are not apprehended by ICE.

Also, keep in mind that ICE only has fewer than 6,000 deportation officers, a fraction of the size of the NYPD, and the largest number of illegal aliens live in sanctuary cities, which made it difficult for ICE to catch the largest number of criminal aliens.

As of the most recent ICE report, there were 3.26 million aliens under ICE's undetained docket. These are individuals who have been targeted by ICE for removal, which most likely means the overwhelming majority have criminal records in addition to immigration violations. That means over 3 million criminal aliens who were dangerous enough to be on ICE's radar remain in the country indefinitely without being deported.

As of 2018, there were more than 1 million illegal aliens who have already received final deportation orders, with another 1.5 million having already received deportation orders but who are in the process of seeking an appeal.

Even if we focused solely on the bad guys, we lack the resources to make a dent. As early as 2013, DHS estimated, based on ICE programs in local jails, that there were 1.9 million criminal aliens in this country and that 900,000 aliens were arrested every year. Chillingly, the report noted that "550,000 criminal aliens convicted of crimes exit law enforcement custody every year" and that "this population of criminal aliens poses a major threat to public safety."

Now consider the fact that this is all old data and preceded the worst border invasion in our history. Just since fiscal year 2018, we’ve apprehended 3.7 million at the border, of whom undoubtedly most were released and many more never recorded got away from agents. While we often complain that all illegal crime is avoidable and that not enough criminals are deported, we have still deported from the interior and at the border 1.8 million criminal aliens from 2007 to 2018. Can you imagine how many of them likely took advantage of the invasion of the past few years, paid the cartels enormous sums of money, re-entered our country and communities, and enriched these vicious cartels at the same time so they can more effectively control, surveil, and manipulate both sides of our border?

Nobody has ever endeavored to fully quantify the magnitude of crime, chaos, fiscal cost, and drugs and gangs in our cities as a result of this. It is astounding that we don’t try to ascertain the citizenship of every individual arrested, but back when ICE was still doing good work, they divulged some numbers in New York City from among those they lodged detainers against. In FY 2019, ICE’s New York bureau field office lodged 7,526 detainers for foreign criminals who racked up 17,873 criminal convictions and 6,500 criminal charges. The offenses included among those crimes were 200 homicides, over 500 robberies, over 1,000 sexual offenses, over 1,000 weapons offenses, over 3,500 assaults, and over 1,500 DUIs.

At the time, I noted the 200 homicides are astounding because there were only about 300 murders per year at the time. Not all of those homicides were committed in one year, but for ICE to have definitively identified aliens with 200 murder convictions or charges in just one year’s worth of detainers is simply astonishing.

Which brings us back to the border and the broader lack of prioritization of geopolitical threats by our political class. In January, Todd Bensman reported live from the Mexico-Guatemala border that the U.N. was handing out cash assistance to encourage migrants to invade our border. It’s this invasion that is facilitating unconscionable amounts of crime, drugs, sex trafficking, and gang and cartel activity at our border and in every major American city. Ranchers on our own soil live and work in constant fear. It’s hard to conjure up a greater, more comprehensive systemic threat to our sovereignty, security, culture, and human rights than the policies facilitating the border invasion.

While the media whips everyone into a frenzy over a foreign country over which we have little control and few options, they will never tell what is occurring at our own border. For GOP politicians to only care about what the media tells them to while ignoring the plight of our own people is a violation of their oaths of office.

Report: Feds mass-released single adult illegal immigrants, mostly men, who were driven by taxi to Texas airport for travel to other US cities

Video caught the moments that numerous single adult illegal immigrants — released from federal custody — were taken by bus to a small, unmarked office in a parking garage in Brownsville, Texas, and then transported by taxi to an airport, where they were headed to other United States cities, Fox News reported.

What are the details?

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin said video recorded Sunday showed several federally contracted buses dropping off dozens of mostly male migrants at the parking garage, which was adorned with black tarps, reportedly to keep the public from seeing the goings-on — as well as a sign reading "Border Patrol drop-off."

The cable network said the migrants re-emerged soon after from inside the office in the parking garage and entered taxis.

Fox News said the taxis took migrants to nearby Harlingen Airport. Fox News — which reported that it followed the taxis to the airport — reported that no children or families were among the migrants.

Several migrants told Fox they crossed illegally into the U.S. that same morning after paying about $2,000 per person to cartel smugglers and were flying from the airport to cities such as Miami, Houston, and Atlanta.

The cable network said single adults usually are expelled via Title 42 public health protections, which were established under former President Donald Trump. But President Joe Biden's administration isn't applying Title 42 to unaccompanied children or most migrant families, Fox News said.

What did the city have to say?

The city of Brownsville told the cable network that its Office of Emergency Management, through federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has been facilitating "the transfer of these migrants to their final destination by allowing them to use services to contact their families, NGOs, or a taxicab."

The city also confirmed that the parking garage is a staging area where migrants are given travel information to "facilitate their transfer to their final destinations," Fox News said, adding that migrants also can receive health screenings there.

What did the feds have to say?

Customs and Border Protection told the cable network it wasn't involved in the release. And while Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Fox News it was looking into the matter, an ICE source who viewed the recorded video said it's believed it was indeed an ICE release.

Anything else?

The report came as CBP officially released its December border numbers that showed 178,840 encounters in December, which Fox News said is a higher number than the three previous Decembers combined (175,353).

The cable network added that the Biden administration is re-establishing the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols in response to a court order that found dismantling the program is unlawful.

LA County sheriff refuses to use COVID-19 test provider over alleged ties to China

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva on Monday informed the L.A. County Board of Supervisors that his office will no longer use the county's coronavirus test provider, alleging that the company may share data from COVID-19 testing patients with the Chinese government.

In a letter reported by Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin, Villanueva says he was contacted by the FBI's Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator, who shared "very concerning information" regarding Fulgent Genetics Corporation, the Temple City-based company contracted by L.A. County to provide coronavirus tests.

NEW: The L.A. County Sheriff has notified L.A. County that LASD will not work w/ a genetics firm the County hired for mandatory COVID-19 testing/registration of County employees after he received a recent briefing from the FBI warning him about the firm’s links to China. @FoxNewspic.twitter.com/WHtFcEZlPI
— Bill Melugin (@Bill Melugin) 1638239292

Villanueva told the board of supervisors that he attended a Nov. 26, 2021, briefing at the FBI Los Angeles Field Office, along with the county's top attorney and chief executive, with all supervisors and the head of the Department of Public Health invited.

"The FBI stated the purpose of the meeting was to inform County leaders of the serious risks associated with allowing Fulgent to conduct COVID-19 testing of County employees," Villanueva said.

The sheriff said he was "shocked to learn" that Fulgent has alleged ties to several Chinese technology and genomics companies that are "linked to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) State Council and are under the control of the PRC."

He further alleged that Fulgent uses genetic information obtained from COVID-19 testing patients in studies, and raised concerns that data potentially stored by Fulgent outside the U.S. could be accessed by the Chinese government.

“I am deeply concerned as to the vetting process which either failed to discover this or discovered it but chose to ignore it. A simple Internet search would have covered all the above facts,” Villanueva wrote.

He stated that the FBI "felt strongly enough regarding Fulgent being used to test County personnel that they held an emergency briefing to disclose their concerns."

"The Department will remove itself from working with Fulgent," Villanueva said.

L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl told the Los Angeles Times that she was invited to the FBI briefing but could not attend because she was out of town for Thanksgiving.

“From what I heard about the briefing, there was no evidence at all, zero, that Fulgent had breached anything or had any relationship with the Chinese government that was harmful to the information that might be present in the samples that they’re testing,” she said.

On Aug. 4, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors mandated that all County employees provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 by Oct. 1 or face termination. Melugin reported that the county awarded a no-bid contract to Fulgent to provide testing and registration services, and that all county employees, more than 100,000 people, were required to register their vaccination status with Fulgent.

Melugin said that some employees reached out to him and were "furious" with a disclaimer from Fulgent Genetics explaining that the company may "store, process and transmit personal information in locations around the world," including in places with "less protective" data protection laws.

"If you do not want your information transferred to or processed or maintained outside of the country or jurisdiction where you are located, you should not use our Services," the Fulgent disclaimer reads, according to a screenshot shared by Melugin.

On August 4th, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors issued an executive order mandating all County employees provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19, or face potential termination. L.A. County awarded a no-bid contract to Fulgent to provide testing/registration services.
— Bill Melugin (@Bill Melugin) 1638239665

In a statement released Monday, the county said the contract with Fulgent prohibits the company from disclosing data collected without the county's "express written permission" and requires the company to "store and process County data/information only within the continental United States."

The county pointed out that federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security also contract with Fulgent, which is certified by the Food and Drug Administration, accredited by the College of American Pathologists, and licensed by the California Department of Public Health.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding our employees’ testing data, the County continually assesses any credible concerns that may emerge, in consultation with our partners in the federal government, to ensure that the terms of our testing contract are stringently followed," the county said. "If a credible threat is confirmed, or if the federal government takes any steps to rescind its certification, we will take immediate action to ensure no employee data is misused.”

The FBI declined to comment on the briefing to both Melugin and the Los Angeles Times.

Villanueva said the Sheriff's Department will use its own registration system and work with coronavirus testing companies that are unaffiliated with Fulgent to comply with the county's mandates. He asked that the board of supervisors "take steps to immediately assess and mitigate any further risk before any personnel are disciplined under the mandate for refusing to subject their information to the Fulgent system."

County Supervisor Janice Hahn said Monday that the sheriff's office should prioritize enforcing the county's employee vaccination mandate.

“I wish the sheriff would get his deputies vaccinated instead of worrying about how the unvaccinated get tested,” she said in a statement.

Villanueva, a Democrat, has been a longtime critic of the county's vaccine mandate. He said in October he would not enforce the mandate, warning that it could lead to a "mass exodus" of county employees.
